I'm currently in university studying Computer Science. My region allows those with Bachelors to teach in public education (after a two year licensing program after university) for those with technical degrees. My plan is to become an educator in my community which is a bit on the rougher side but still lovely. I've lately been utilizing Microsoft Copilot to aid in my studies. It will create large problem breakdowns for me in subjects I'm struggling in without needing to nag and wait for the professor or search over forums across several web pages which may include contradictory or misleading information. While not perfect it does an overall great job and while I utilize it 9/10 for pure productivity aids, sometimes if tired I've caught myself slipping and just tossing the answer in (I know I'm cheating myself when I do this). This got me thinking, this is going to be a HUGE problem soon isn't it? Its already made some splashes, but like if these language models become so sophisticated we can't tell genuine from generated, how will teachers of the future be expected to teach students? In an ironic twist the same silicon which allowed online schooling seems to be making it obsolete due to the need to guarantee or at least attempt to guarantee no cheating. Students will need to be actively observed while completing ALL assignments. On the bright side this could spell the end of homework as there will be no point in sending assignments home with students if you can't determine what is genuine or generated on a student's assignment.

Hello everyone, So, I am new to PC gaming and have my first ever Gaming PC right now. I am using a Ryzen 5 5600G processor with 16 GB of DDR4 3200Mhz RAM, I have an RX 6800XT in the top PCIE x16 slot on the motherboard. The system came pre-installed with a Gen 4 500GB M.2 SSD as the boot drive. sooooo... my question is, is it possible to use the other M.2 drive that is lower on the board that is tied to the chipset? the top slot that is populated says that it is tied to the CPU... I had heard that if you use more M.2 slots you hamper the performance of other PCIE things??? so I was wondering if I was to put a Gen 3 M.2 SSD in that bottom slot... (The bottom slot is only Gen 3, the top slot is Gen 4) would that be a terrible mistake? will that kill my performance of the RX 6800 XT? The only other thing i could think of is to replace the boot drive with a larger Gen 4 SSD that seems really scary to me but maybe it's not that bad idk... I am still learning and growing into the PC gaming community. I hope that someone here can educate me as I have tried looking stuff like this up but sometimes, I get confused. Thank you for reading this post I hope you all have a wonderful day.

OK, I am an AS Cambridge student I want to take computer science. I love technology, Learned to code, currently going through cyber security courses, and I even watch tech-related stuff on YouTube as entertainment. All in all, technology is my passion and what my career is 100% going to be based upon. But my parents are forcing me to take chemistry and I would rather study anything else than this extremely dull and unnecessary subject, I can't even go into dept as to how much I personally hate chemistry. My Guardian is saying that you can take computer science as an extra subject. So what happened my mother's brother or my uncle, said that don't take computer science now. He said to take it at university. And when my Guardian got to know. he said I made a terrible mistake. (he is also a computer engineer, and knows I have a lot of passion and interest in information technology, software, and hardware). My counselor said that I need to check specific universities to see if chemistry is necessary for computer engineering. I have an interest in hard and software both. (computer engineering includes both of them). But I prefer software more. My Guardian is also saying you need to do an engineering field he says Computer Science has no scope. I am surprised. But anyways, the main I did was that I told my Uncle about what the counselor said. He said so it might mean that for some universities you might need chemistry. He is a mechanical engineer and is not in the Computer Engineering field. And that was my biggest mistake….., I manually didnt check the universities in my country, and the main criteria. Is Physics, Maths, and Computer Science. but if you take chemistry as a secondary you can apply for it. The problem is, why on God's Earth would I waste my energy in time on a subject I absolutely hate. If I clearly have the option to pursue my goals the way I want to? I don’t know why I agreed to his suggestion that some universities might need chemistry. None do, only Harvard and Oxford need it, I even tried to explain that 70% to 80% of the students who have same passions as me Took Computer Science instead of chemistry. And seriously I am so angry as to how my Uncle is interfering and almost ruining my career. And my mother now is also forcing me to take computer science. I actually took some online tuition classes from my Uncle, and he is funding for extra home tuition for all of my subjects. That is why he is trying to help me out, in which he is clearly failing. I also have some interest in robotics, and my Guardian said. For that you need chemistry. Like if you take chemistry, you can go into both fields and explore. Even though all of my my Father and my Guardian is from my father's Family all their brothers are in IT and software engineer for some stupid reason my Guardian is saying me to go and "atleast try Engineering Field, who knows if you like it" The only Engineer is my Grandfather, and even my father went through this problem when he was my age. He did try as my grandfather said . After trying it for a semester or two (not sure how long) he said "I don't like! it is too difficult for me.". Look my father's money is limited also, I can't also afford to waste money on a field I already know I will not like. My own Father went through this switched to IT and made a successful family. And because of personal family and health issues already my 1 year got wasted. I can't afford to waste more years; on something I will hate in the end. It is a waste of time and money, I need to get through university and to get highly paid Job Asap , to maintain my Fathers wealth. Not waste it... I told my Principle the situation, and she talked called my Uncle, unfortunetly he didn’t attend, (its summer vacation, should I contact her again to talk to him in whatsapp? I have less time left). So instead I said her to talk to my Guardian, and told him that “Your son is week in chemistry and he is finding it tough, its high school chemistry which is even more tough and he will not be able to do it.. You can talk to him in front of me” My Gaurdian me, so what do you want to do in future? I said I want to peruse computer science. You wont be able to go in Computer Engineering, you will only be able to go in Computer Science. (At that time I didn’t check my university criteria from my country.) My guardian is forcing me to do University in my country, they do have some very good education insitituions. But I want to go abroad. My guardian said that you would be better off doing Masters abroad but at least do bachelors in your country, as outside is very expensive and you will have to live alone. My fathers friend lives in America, and my Mothers sister in UK. And my Fathers eldest brother live in Canada Though I haven’t research I know Malaysia is good, has the same degree level of Canada. My mother also motivates me to go abroad as I want to, but long story short. My Guardian left his job and career to take care of me. He was happy living in a rich country. But still left everything for me, as he was very close to my Father. And will leave till I get a stable and have a highly paid Job and a family. So he also said “If you will go abroad, then why did I leave everything” in like a worrying way. He genuinely cares about me helped me out in extremely hard times and we had so many happy memories. But perhaps he can take care of my sisters? I won’t live their forever, I can come back for him. But If I started to like living abroad, he himself lived in UK I could go with him there, and he will be with me. I even told my coordinator the situation even though she gets a little angry easily, though she already somewhat knew as she manages my day to day subject related and academic problem. But God… she is the real hero… My Mom on her way with me to the bank with the receipt for registering three A level subjects, with chemistry instead of computer science. I called my coordinator and requested her to talk to my mother, She said “Its fine, he has home tuition, so he can teach him chemistry” and my coordinator said “How can a person teach all three different subjects?” and that was true, the tutor could barely give me time for each subject, and me being weak in chemistry. I wasn’t even passing my school exams. But sadly my mother hesitated I will personally teach him, and then gave the money for registration. I was just confused as to what I can do in this situation. But as exams were drawing near. My coordinator physically called my mother. They had a fight and threatened that she will kick me out of the collage, if he doesn’t get good grades in maths and physics and ask communicated with Cambridge and withdrawed my registration for Chemistry. Now the problem is this, my tutor is steal teaching me chemistry for October November (I gave AS Physics only in MayJune as my preparation for others wasn’t good). And they still haven’t registered for October November before they register for chemistry again. Would should I do? I still attended computer science classes but for 1 month I didn’t (and left out a lot of chapters, in 1 month they covered so much) My guardian once said that he will talk to my tutor to teach computer science. I will try my best to learn from youtube and stuff, practice pastpapers. My best friend gave me a brilliant suggestion to simply try your best to convince your family to focus on computer science and later give chemistry as a extra subject. Instead of vise-versa. Please guys, I need your help as to how can I convince my family. My Computer Science teacher was suppose to meet my Guardian in meeting to convince him to change my subject, but then it was time to pray, and he went straight home. I will try to call my Teacher and get him into a call. Help me guys.

Hello LTT, My high school just received a grant of $80,000 and we are looking to upgrade our tech, focusing on a fleet of mobile laptop carts and some tower PCs for computer labs (imagine your high school and you're probably not far off..). Most of our current laptops are 8th i5 and hard to upgrade, our towers are i3 with a motherboard that won't accept anything past Intel 3rd gen. I have floated the idea of pushing our tech into a hybrid ecosystem, subscribe to online server space for processing power and acquire a greater quantity of lower chipped laptops so that we can get a ratio of 2:1, but the district's IT department is dead set on keeping the ecosystem locked into their version of Windows 10. I do not have a ton of experience for builds. If you were in charge of $80k how would you allocate your resources to acquire 45 tower PCs (which could hopefully be upgraded in 5-7 years) and as many laptops as possible (sub 13" screen, adequate processing power for browsing, USB-C charging). Thank you in advance, let's bring my school into 2023!

Summary Danish authorities bans the use of Chromebook in public schools, due to the potential risks of US authorities gathering data - in conflict with EU data protection laws. Quotes My thoughts Its interesting to see a growing conflict between the tech giants, the spy agencies and the consumer/data protection laws. Removing Chromebook as a platform for schools is a major disruption. I also made me think of Linus' perils in getting a Chromebook for his kids for school. Hi, I am looking to buy a laptop for university (Computer Science / Engineering that kinda thing) and I have found 3 laptops to chose between. I would like to get a decent spec laptop for under £1000. I also have HP students discount. These are the 3 I have found: 1. Where Modern Math relies on Axioms as building blocks/rules of more complex concepts? David Wang made gaming fun again imho; why not let's make education fun again? (Funny enough my maternal uncle's English name is David, and my Uncle David is usually a good-spirited guy too) Please not let the final answer be "because politicians are 'too set' in their ways..."

Budget (including currency): $2,000 USD Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Virtual math instruction and lesson planning. Programs used during instruction (often simultaneously - switching back and forth as needed): Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, & Slides), calculator emulator software, whiteboard software, Adobe Acrobat (usually 4-6 pdfs open at once), Chrome browser (usually 12-20 sites open at a time - grade portal, email, lesson sites, student work for live feedback, etc.), pen tablet software, document camera, webcam (live streaming lesson), MS Teams, and robotics 3D virtualization software. Programs used during lesson planning: OBS (video recording), Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Paint, Kuta math suite, MS Office, and most of the ones already listed for instruction. Need at least 500 gb ssd. Other details: Laptop needs to support 2 monitors (normal business type flat panel), pen tablet, document camera, and webcam. Currently using a (remote managed) Dell that has 4gb ram and 256 gb hard drive. With the current system it can take up to 35 minutes to boot and open all software needed for instruction. Some apps take 30s to a few minutes to respond after switching. MS Teams and Whiteboard can take up to 5 minutes to load and often 2-3 minutes after bringing them up after minimizing. The calculator emulator, whiteboard software, Teams, and Adobe Acrobat often freeze and have to be restarted. As you can imagine it is very frustrating for me and the students to have to wait for the computer to catch up. I think I need at least 32 gb of ram for all the programs that have to run at the same time while streaming instruction. Our district doesn't have money to update teacher computers so I am going to have to pay for this out of my own pocket. I can afford about $2,000. I want to find a laptop for less than $1,000, if possible. A laptop is needed because I never know when a quarantine wave will hit and I'll have to teach from home. I mainly need help finding a good pre-built laptop to buy. I think I need at least 32 gb, but not sure if 8 or 16 will work just as well. I also hope that LTT will do a video to help out teachers who have to do virtual education. Thank you

I am in need of guidance, fellow Sea/b/ass/tian/s Sebastians. I am on a long, long journey, and this is only the beginning. To start, my long term goal is to be a cutting edge genius beyond what even Elon or his child could hope to become(shoot for the moon, and all that). Short term goal is to become at least as knowledgeable as the most knowledgeable sys admin(and as wise). Shorter-term goal is to gain at least 3 tech certifications in the next 2 years, begin an entry-level IT job, and rise to at least a $70,000 annual pay rate within, at most, 2 years, due to my level of value. No need to worry about the time frame; I use SuperMemo(super-memo.com, NOT supermemo.com. I used to use Anki, but switched due to superior algorithm and much better long-term application.). Good ol' Musk said it best: And so I must master the complete fundamentals before mastering the advanced. There are so many different things to learn, I frankly just can't figure out what I need to learn first. I guess everything CompTIA+ is obvious- oh, I do need to say, I'm not meaning to come off as arrogant or pretentious, if I am coming off that way. But, well, where do I start? What educational path do I follow? And I would like to thank @LinusTech for inspiring me to pursue technology, as he has many others. ... I know I'm not the best at speech or writing, but... Thank you for your help, in advance.

17yo, am attending my local career center/academy (in fact I am by far the most intelligent in IT for my school's class of 2021) for PC repair, IT, and networking. My forte is 100% PC hardware. Despite the fact that I have only built 2 PCs in my life (my first was a piece of trash looking back), I have been studying hardware in depth for around a year and a half now. (Steve Burke from GN, Moore's law is dead, and AHOC are very helpful ) and with the exception of PSU cables, I could prob build a rig blind just from my knowledge of PCs. My knowledge of PC hardware is much more depth than breadth. (As in I haven't taken a complete Comp Sci course, nor do I understand programming one bit, but I am trying my best to learn the low level complications of motherboards, RAM, GPUs, etc.) However, I am kinda poor and just working with high parts is still a dream. This is going to be a problem, right? I came here looking for advice on what kind of jobs I should look for in the future (after a low level IT or PC technician job) and what kind of certifications I should get to get there. (I have heard that in IT, for the first couple rungs up the "ladder," certifications are worth a lot more than a college degree in CS. Correct me if I'm wrong.) A lifetime job as a PC technician would be great, but it won't pay well after long and while not a dead end, could feel like it because I don't know of similar jobs that are better paying. Anyone that actually builds PCs all day, creates parts lists, etc. for a living, please join this conversation. Advice here could actually make a big difference in my life, so genuine knowledge and advice is greatly appreciated.

One of my teachers recently has started recording videos on his phone pointed at the screen, he says he can't do google meet or zoom due to a slow Internet connection and he is also on a low end chromebook. I offered him to do a custom OBS install on his Chromebook but he says he cant because the video files would be too big and the storage is to small. I can't think of a solution myself however I am trying to find some sort of education subsided wifi in the UK, please, please can we all do something because I honestly feel bad for him and I don't know what I can do to help. Thanks for reading

Hi, Since the situation with the covid has been longer in many countries than initially planed and the income of many families has been heavily affected. I was thinking if there is a way to make a PC work as next: an operating system that allows two screens, two keyboards and two mice connected to a single PC so 2 children (or a parent at work and a child at school) would work at the same time on same PC. Is there a way to also use a second port for audio output so two children of different ages would attend different online classrooms using each a headset?

Yesterday, my sister took on a large math problem involving the LTT folding team stats. The attached graph is what was created to determine when our team, LinusTechTips_Team, will overtake the other folding teams above it. At this pace we will catch CureCoin on Nov 19th, 2020. All credit for the math work goes to my sister on this one! The colored graph below shows each time and the intersecting points mark the days until the team is passed. "The lines represent the total points each of the top four teams will have, as time passes, given their present rates of change." As of yesterday, "in 38 days, LTT will pass EVGA and in 88 days, pass Default. It will take until November for LTT to pass CureCoin and be first, so keep folding!" - Quotes from my sister. LinusTechTips_Team is going strong. I myself am folding for the team and donating my computer power when I am not editing video. Let's get LTT up the charts!

Hi everyone, I'm trying to assist my department at my university to setup a solid platform to deliver decent online classes. These classes are NEVER online and need to meet a few requirements: 1) FREE (we cant afford anything else after textbooks) 2) Can hold at least 20-25 people 3) User friendly (my department are NOT techies...) -OPTIONAL- ~ can be accessed with our phones. We have Zoom currently, but it has given us some problems. Any information would be extremely helpful and appreciated!

Hello all! I will preface this by saying that I did not find a category besides "General Discussion" to post this topic in. If I am mistaken and this belongs somewhere else, please let me know so I may correct the error. So I am currently a student at ECSU (Eastern Connecticut State University), and I was googling around to see if there were any educational sponsorship tech companies like intel, AMD, Asus, Corsair, etc. did for tech-based clubs at Universities. I am a part of ECSU's Computer Science club, and since I am a computer-building enthusiast, I wanted to teach everyone about how to do it along with troubleshooting skills. I do not have a decent budget (University kinda sucks away my money ) and neither does the ECSU Computer Science club. We do have plans for fund-raisers, but I also wanted to see if there were any ways to contact the companies listed above to see if they wanted to donate certain components for educational purposes (like a very basic pentium intel processor or a single stick of RAM, etc.). I am not sure how to contact these companies about it, and I do not want to use their contact emails (mainly for customer service) only to have them say "this email / phone number is only for customer service," and then be stuck wondering what to do. Figured I'd ask around to see if anyone is knowledgeable on this before I go and attempt the jumping-through-hoops that is contacting companies about things other than customer support. Thanks for the read! Hope everyone's doing awesome! Sincerely, -Darkroe

Hello there everyone, I'm not sure where to post this so I decided to start in "Off Topic" and if I'm wrong here just say so. I'm really good at troubleshooting and fixing hardware and software but that is just the basics of IT and I've seen that a lot of companies are trying to find more people that know more about managing, programming, and networking. I hate programming, I'm not that good at leadership and networking it's all right but it can sometimes be too complex for me. I am studying IT (Information Technology) at Keiser University and I'm not sure where to start once I finish my bachelor's degree. Does anyone have or had any similar experience? If so, how did you know where to start? What would normally be a good place to start? Also, what certifications should I start studying for?

Hello, my name is Eli. I am 22, living in Austin, Texas. I am trying to get started on working towards a career in either Server Administrating or Managing. I don't fully understand the differences between the two, but I am hoping someone here can help me understand what both fully are and what the jobs entail. My experience is next to nothing on the subject but it's the only job that I've found a genuine interest in since graduating High School. Previously, i was firm in the fact that i did not believe college was for me, partly because i didn't have a dream or goal in which to set my sights on in order to achieve. Now i do, and it lead me to finally start looking into starting community college as a first step, something that i never saw myself doing. What i'm really wanting is any type of advice on what i should do in order to get into the field. Ill list the main points of things i would like to know below. What is the difference between a Server Administrator and a Server Manager? What is the daily work day look like for either jobs? What type of Schooling is needed? (Currently, In the Fall, i will begin basic classes. The Academic Program i am in is Computer Information Technology) What type of intern jobs should i be looking for to get experience? (I've heard from multiple people that interning is one of the best ways to get into the field) If you are a Server Manager/Admin, what advice can you personal give? Does either job require a lot of Math Classes? (Math is by far my worst subject, i am not good at the type of abstract thinking it requires) That is mostly it for my questions that i can remember at the moment. Though if you have any information or advice that does not pertain to the list above, i would very much like to hear it. I want to give this career path my all. Thank you to everyone who responds, it means a lot to me.

First post on this forum but thought you might all find this very interesting. I am studying at a college that specialises in nuclear. They have dedicated a room to VR and inside have 4 HTC Vive Pro's with the wireless kits, as well as 4 PC's with an i9 7940X, GTX 1080, and 32GB ram each. The idea is that for us who are training to work in the nuclear power industry, the VR can simulate scenarios that would be very dangerous for us to train in or impossible. One such scenario could be where a radioactive source must be contained and dealt with, or one I have done is putting out a electrical fire (selecting the correct type of extinguisher) and then dealing with a casualty. All in a smoke filled room. This is one application I think VR is very good for because especially with nuclear, there is lots of training we undergo in the case of an emergency. However simulating an emergency can be quite hard, and in VR it is safe to make mistakes

For my college work I have been told that I need to do some primary research on the future of AI in education and I was wondering if I can post a link to a form for people to fill out, all responses will remain anonymous and all the data collected is for college work only. I thought I'd ask before sending just to be sure.

Hey guys, i got a PC for gaming at home, but i need something mobile. I got a Macbook Pro 13" (Late 2016, without Touchbar) and i think about switching over to a Dell XPS 13. I study computer science and really like the Macbook, but the Keyboard fucks me up every time I use it. The feel is okay, but it's way too loud. I also think windows could be better for everything i have to do in my during my studies. Does anyone have recommendations or mabye experiences with the Dell XPS 13? Would you recommend the XPS 9370 over the 9360?
