Hi My gf is using maya for editing 3D stuff, and the file got corrupted. Is there a way to restore it? longer: She forgot laptop charger, but had to work so she got another weaker one. That didn't seem like it was charging, so she took the batery out and the laptop ran with just the power from the cable. She had a few crashes/restarts inbetween, probably because of insuficient power, which led to the corrupted file. Also now with batery inside, laptop only displays that it is running on power through the cable, ignoring battery; any ideas about this? Thanks in advance, it would really mean a lot to her if anyone can help us out! (andmove me to the right topic if i failed to pick the right one:P)

I've just started editing video with Adobe Premiere Pro. My rig is a little over 3 yrs old, but hasn't had a problem dealing with anything I've thrown at it over the past few years. Last night, I was doing a first render of a video to see how it would look, and my machine was pushed to the max. With a Core i5-4670 cooled by a Hyper 212 Evo, it was running hotter than I've ever seen it run while it was rendering the video. My GPU is Gigabyte GTX 660OC. I previously used Corel VideoStudio, and it never worked that hard to render a video. Being this is my first time using Premiere Pro, is it normal to push a system that hard when rendering? TIA for any info.

Hey, I need opinions for my new build. Upgrading from my old one which still works great but thinking to move from 1080p to 4K. I plan to play games for the most part, but I edit and render as well. also I plan to OC this build for extreme performance. CPU: i7 7700k 4.2Ghz (Will OC to 5Ghz) MotherBoard: Gigabyte Aorus GA Z270X-Gaming 9 DDR4 (I chose this for the High end performance and its RGB Looks) GPU: EVGA GTX 1080ti Founders edition (I plan to get the EVGA FTW Hybrid Block for the FE card when It releases) CPU Cooler: Corsair H110i or Corsair H100i (I am confused between these two) Storage: Samsung 960 Evo M.2 NVMe PCIe 250GB SSD (I've been reading that these don't improve the boot time. I don't plan on install anything other than OS and few important software on this SSD, If this truly doesn't speed up windows and its boot time recommend me something else) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSD (Mainly for games and Software) Storage: WD Black 2TB High Performance (For Mass storage) PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 850 Watt 80+ Gold RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengence RGB 3000 DDR4 (RBG <3) Case: Thermaltake Core P3 (I intent to mount the Case on the wall so I found this to be the best) Monitor: Asus PG27AQ Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB Lux Brown Switches Mouse: Zowie EC1-A Headsets: HyperX Cloud 2 Mousepad: SteelSeries QcK+ I play a lot of FPS (csgo, COD, BF) so included the Mouse and mousepad as well. My Budget is around 3.5-4K$ USD (for PC Components only including Shipment taxes and everything) I tried my best to not make an errors my grammar is not really good. Please correct and advice if you something incompatible or just stupid

I'm not planning on buying this. But as I quench my desire to learn more about PC's I am wondering what would be a great video editing machine and deliver great gaming performance. Primarily Xeon or I7? And then also will a Xeon or i7 be slower than say a 7700k for games? Thanks

Ok so hi everyone, I am thinking of building a new Ryzen computer from scratch and what I will mostly use it for is video editing, rendering and rigging and so with the new ryzen cpu lineup, the bigger amount of cores sounded very interesting to me, specialyl for the lower price, but of course, I also want it to game, but I will only game at 1080p probably, not 4k and so here is my designed build: MOTHERBOARD: ASUS PRIME B350 PLUS CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (stock or a little overclocked, I don't want to spend on aditional cooling). RAM: DDR4 G.SKILL 16GB RIPJAWS V 3200MHz (single slot in case I want to increase to 32 gb later on). SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250gb SSD HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200rpm MONITOR: ASUS Designo MX279H Monitor - 27" FHD(1920x1080), IPS. GPU: Zotac gtx 1080 AMP! Extreme Edition @10.8 Ghz I'd like to know if this build is 100% compatible and possible, and should I downgrade to a 1600 or 1600x? or is the new gtx 1080 ti founder's edition better than this zotac 1080? I'd appreciate any feedback you guys may have for me, thanks. Any constructive feedback is welcome.

It seems that the 1050 Ti and 1060 beat RX470 and RX480 when it comes to editing in Premiere Pro. Is it true and why is it so?

I need an new pc, my current laptop is in last stage of cancer. I'm building a new one in a month. CPU: Ryzen 7 1700 CPU cooler: NZXT Kraken X62 RAM: Gskill tridentz 2x16 GB Motherboard: Asus ROG Crosshair vi hero SSD: Samsung 960 evo 256 GB HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3 TB GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 1080 ti FTW3 PSU: EVGA 850w G3 80+ Gold Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400STG Monitor: Asus PB278Q (2560x1440) Keyboard: Corsair Strafe RGB Mouse: Corsair Sabre RGB Should I make any changes. I doubt on ram. Will it run on its rated 3200 MHz speed on 2x16 GB kit. Which I'm planning to upgrade to 64 GB. 850w PSU because planning to get another 1080 ti.

Hello! I was wondering which platform would be best for an affordable video editing rig. I personally am looking for the following: - Heavy media usage (Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Lightroom) - Arts (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Blender) - Light gaming (League of Legends, DotA, CS:GO, Overwatch, etc.) Furthermore, I'm currently running an AMD FX-8320 OC'd to 4GHz and a GTX 660Ti and was wondering a good recommendation for a CPU in the mid-range (best price-performance ratio). Thanks!

so just for tower, no monitors or anything, anyone got a build that using different GPUS (one for gaming, one for editing, another for rending and also CAD stuff) or is it even possible?

Will this be better then my current system 6700k 4.0ghz quad-core 16gb ram. If its not can u explain why? If it is can you explain why? I know i post a lot but LTT forums is very helpful and i dont want to make a mistake

Going to be ordering a new editing PC for 4K editing in Premiere Pro. The specs are below since this is all within my price range. My question is, will the RAM work? It's 2133MHz, which is the fastest available from the company I am purchasing from. I've seen 3000HMz online at other companies but not sure if it's worth the price difference. I've read it can increase render times but just wondered if it would affect my editing workflow. Hello all, A year ago I built my first PC and at the time I was only interested in web-browsing and YouTube etc with the occasional session on games like Shellshock Live, which aren't very intensive. I decided on an A10-7870k with 8GB of 2400Mhz Ram.Since then, I have taken up photography as a hobby as well as shooting short videos for a blog @ 1080/60 which are around 10 minute videos which on my PC take around 25/30 mins to render. As I said, my PC does ok but it does get a little sluggish especially when using Lightroom and Photoshop together or when rendering 1:1 previews in bulk. I am hoping to start taking many more photos now summer is approaching and in terms of video, that could go either way.I'm heavily considering the i5 7600k as I mostly do photo work but I'm also considering the i7 6700k just in case I ever need to work on more complicated videos which again, may or may not happen. I'd be happy venturing into OC'ing a little because it looks interesting to me and some extra performance is always nice. My CPU will be complemented with 16GB of 3000Mhz (or other?) RAM and an appropriate Z1/270 motherboard. My dilemma is spending the extra money for the i7 now when I don't really need that power today but I might 12 months down the line and don't want to spend more money upgrading again.I am of course aware of Ryen 5 coming soon but for now I'd like to focus just on the two (or anything else equally as good for less money)Any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: If i were to get the 7600k for example for lets say 70% photo 30% video, could I still get good results with that CPU and would it be a noticeable improvement in speed etc over my current APU? How much on top of the 7600K would the 6700k be in the above scenario considering the £100/150 price difference?

Hello folks, I'm new here. Of course i've been watching LTT for years, it seems like a great community, thought you would find this build interesting/unique. I have worked on quite a few client builds in the last few years, this ones for me. I have purchased parts, so mostly looking for water cooling/case mod/cable sleeving/configuration/ ???? recommendations. I will use this thread for build log documentation (is this the right place for that?) Budget is unlimited, loose but at this point i'm almost $4k into this Most everything from ebay, cpu is an Eng. sample. Parts: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jQc3XH Usage: Photo and video - i use a Sony a6300, 4k video stacks up quickly, I edit in Vegas primarily, AE, and PP sometimes. I edit photos in lightroom and shoot it all in raw. I don't use photoshop or illustrator, i grew up on gimp and inkscape lol, they are not using any gpu acceleration yet afaik. Media storage - My entertainment collection, constantly growing, requires redundant storage accessible from the network and faster direct access for offloading all the above 3D animation/Rendering - its a hobby not my job, but waiting on an athlon x2 for ray tracing to complete for 12 hours is not fun. I use 3ds max. 2/3 render engines cpu bound, Vray has gpu acceleration now openCL for sure. Gaming? - I play LoL sometimes, so definitely not 3x titan Xps...

Hey there LTT Forums! Long time reader, first time posting. I've finally decided to build a new PC and think I've got everything I need. I'm just looking for any suggestions from this amazing community that may help me in any way possible. With that said, I'll keep this short and sweet. I'm looking to build primarily a Gaming PC, but I do plan on streaming on twitch as well as editing my streams in Adobe Premiere. Things to note: -I don't plan on overclocking (but would like to have it available in case I decide to in the future) -I've never done water cooling before. I think it looks amazing but am not sure if it's absolutely necessary for me. -I am an Intel / NVIDIA fan (nothing against AMD Ryzen, just preference) So with that said. Here is the build I've come up with: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/estrasser/saved/dYbgsY (NOTE: the only things I'm keeping from my current PC are my Monitors, my SSD, and my 1TB HDD) If anyone has ANY suggestions for me it would be greatly appreciated. Whether it be hardware suggestions, saving money, or even just some tips I should consider for my build. Any questions let me know! Thanks

Do I really need an IPS type Monitor? I'm not a heavy gamer, I only play games like WoWs and CS:GO but "sometimes" (like twice a week or so) I like to edit and record stuffs for content creation. Do I really need an IPS monitor for that?

Hey guy, new to the custom pc scene, but I'm very interested in creating my own that will give me the best performance for games and editing. I don't really have a budget, but I don't want to go over the top with price. Any tips would help, thanks!

Hey there! I wondered what the Linus community thinks about a laptop like the Notebook 7 spin. I would use it for editing on the go mostly. No gaming. so what do you think? Thanks! Oliver
