I've just bought a new PC, and my old pc was connected to the TV I am using as a monitor with a VGA cable and a VGA-to-DVI-I Adapter. my new PC uses DVI-D, and in the absence of being able to find a VGA to DVI-D adapter, I used a HDMI cord, which has resulted in horrible overscan. I've used the Nvidia control panel to manually rezise the display, but it has resulted in blurriness. I even tried to change the aspect ratio on my TV, but it only has 3 settings and none of them help in the slightest. PC is Soniq brand. Am I going to have to figure out how to get a VGA to DVI-D connector? Buy a new monitor? Are there any solutions I've overlooked? Thanks enormously for any help anyone can provide.

I have been using this card and monitor for over a year now and i just encountered this problem. After using the computer for a while it either by playing games or using it to render 3d animations the screen goes black and it gives me the message HDMI out of range. I have also tried using the DVI-D port and that one after a while give me a power saver mode on the screen. I have tried a factory reset and it still does the same thing. All of the drivers are up to date.I have a GTX 970 and an LG Flatron E2241 monitor.

I have an ASUS VG248QE monitor and ASUS GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II graphics card. I've had both for 2+ years and have been working great until now. I cannot use my monitor at 144hz because it has really terrible tearing/fuzzyness. It works fine if I set the refresh rate to 120hz or lower, but certain games still act up if I play them full screen. Playing windowed usually fixes it. If I try to do a print screen, the tearing doesn't show up. I think this started after playing Antichamber, but not sure. Tried a new DVI-D cable and got the same effect. I'm thinking about trying displayport next. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Here's a cellphone picture of what it looks like. The photo doesn't capture this, but the tearing is constantly refreshing so it looks like fuzzy, similar to a TV channel that is static-y. It kinda looks like a double image:https://imgur.com/a/akrv1

I have just finished up most of the things I have needed for my first pc build, and approached the final steps. Firstly, I had been using a VGA cable for my monitor to old PC for a while and just found out that my PC only supports DVI. (Quick stop to BestBuy solved that problem) However after plugging it in to the PC and monitor, my monitor simply tries to search for a cable, FAILS, then goes into sleep mode. My PC is able to power on, case fans and CPU fan functioning well and power button LED + actual function working at the same time, so im not to sure its a actual build error. (This is my first build so im not entirely sure.) I've connected it to both the graphics card DVI port and MOBO port, and I get the same situation. I know for a fact the following steps I HAVE DONE CORRECTLY: CPU installation Cooler Installation (air fan) GPU Installation (maybe) MOBO into CASE installation RAM in correct slot (The remaining steps I can not be sure if done correctly because I dont have a bios window to check. SSD, HD, RAM, ETC.) I can supply pictures if anyone would like visual verification later on !! - MOBO: Asus STRIX Z270E Gaming !! - GPU: GTX 1060 !! - Monitor: HP S2031 (supports DVI and VGA) !! - CPU: i5 7600k Thank you to whoever can assist me & I apologize if anything may have been explained poorly or I used wrong terminology. I hope my reply will assist in any issues one may spot.

So I tried to overclock a LG 23EA53 from 60 hz to 75 hz and it worked. I used: Custom Resolution Utility 1.2.6 downloaded from here: http://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU . But when I tried 80 hz it went black saying what there is no signal and that it will go to energy saving mode. I cant figure out how to go back to normal 60 hz mode. I used the reset-all and restart options from CRU. Also removed battery from Motherboard, and got bios to default. The display wont get detected neither in Windows or Ubuntu. But the weird thing is that I will display image until it loads any of the O.S. I am using a GTX 970. Other weird thing is that CRU is detecting the monitor i think. But not Nvidia Control Panel or Windows. I am using HDMI right now. I dont know whether the display config is saved in the OS,the GPU,the BIOS or in the display itself because i cant understand why Ubuntu will try to load last display config that it was 80hz. Thanks in advance

So, I now officially hate the fragmented standard that is DVI. I bought an adapter from monoprice, dvi-vga(adapter name didn't specify type anywhere), because a dispalyport adapter would be too expensive. With what my friend described as orgasmic happiness when it came in the mail, I tried to instantly use so my R9 390 would be usable to my vga 1440x900 monitor. Well, to my dismay, it didn't plug in. But knowing that DVI is a fragmented standard. I realised the four pins around the big weird flat pin were in the way. So like a happy, currently ignorant idiot I bent them back, thinking it would be fine. And then it didn't work. So i looked up dvi pinout pics on google to find those pins are necessary for analogue mode. And then i cried(not really), realizing 5 bucks were wasted. And decided I should warn another pour soul here. And if somebody could explain to me why my gigabyte r9 390 wf doesn't have a dvi-I, please, i imagine it to keep all ports digital but... my mobo is the same way and it has a vga connector soo...... Also, somebody tell me, a displayport adaptor shouldn't have any such problems should it? And also, if I could have advice fixing my pins, that'd be nice I got them all back up nice, but can't straighten them nicely, and they and a bit off angle, i probably just need reaaaaaaallly small pliers. Basic rundown- Dvi is a fragmented standard, and when buying adaptors, be careful and check if your port is DVI-A or DVI-D And everybody replying, yes I know, i made a simple yet retarded mistake, alright, im here to warn others.

Can I run 1280 x 1024 @ 75Hz with a DVI-I / DVI-D / HDIM / Display Port I to VGA adapter? The graphics card is an MSI Radeon R7 260X OC 2GB. The graphics card outputs with DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI 1.4a and Display Port 1.2. The monitor inputs with VGA and HDMI.

I'm looking for 1440p ips displays and I was originally going for the ASUS PB278QR but I found this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Perfect-Pixel-QNIX-QX2710-Evolution-II-2560x1440-27-LED-PLS-Monitor-Glossy/141491366098?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140107090050%26meid%3Dbbeba92c7e1240f686999c91ccc62527%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D140932730742 It's about $250 cheaper than the PB278QR and it can be overclocked, although it doesn't support hdmi, but that's not really too much of a problem and display-port apparently works with an adapter. Is it worth it? Or should I go for the PB278QR?

Hi, i installed my new gigabyte 980 ti and i connected my 2 screens on dvi ports. Everything was fine, but the next day i power up my pc and the 2nd monitor was not there. No matter what i did, i couldnt get a signal from dvi-d. It doesnt even appear in nvidia panel. Is that a bug or the card is faulty ? I have my 2nd monitor on hdmi atm and everything runs fine, but idk if that would be a problem in the future or if i should instant rma the card. It looks like a driver issue or hardware? I ve already emailed gigabyte but no response 3 days now. thanks a lot guyz

So I've been trying to set up my triple monitors since I recently upgraded my old graphics card, Nvidia GT 640, to a PCS+ Radeon R9 390. Thing is, all three monitors worked fine with that old card. This new one on the other hand, doesn't seem to be picking up one of the monitors. The main monitor I use is connected via HDMI to the graphics card. Second one is actually a TV, connected HDMI to the onboard graphics of the motherboard. The main change is the third monitor, which is a Gateway FPD1760 TFT LCD Color Monitor that is now connected via DVI-D to the graphics card, before this was connected through a VGA -> VGA Converter DVI-I -> Graphics Card, and it worked perfectly fine. The monitor signal is picked up during BIOS startup, since it replicates the image on the main monitor, but right after BIOS, signal is gone, says "No signal," and then the power button goes from blue to a yellow-orange color. Any help is highly appreciated! Specs:

I'm not sure if my displayport port on my 970 is dead or not, so I order a new cable to test the issue since the one I have currently is non-compliant. If the port turns out dead, can I purchase a dvi-d to displayport cable and use that with my g-sync monitor and still be able to use g-sync at 1080p resolution? Also, is there a such thing as dvi-i to dvi-d or dvi-i to vga?

I have never really been great at making good purchases when it comes to computers (I bought AMD instead of waiting to get intel....), so i'm coming here for some help with one of the most noticeable purchases of a pc. I need help finding a great monitor, with relatively small bezels, it HAS to be at least 120 Hz, 1440p and is has to have a nice and fully adjustable stand. Thank you in advance for the help! Also, is the ROG Swift really the best gaming monitor money can buy?

So my gtx 970 comes with 1x displayport, 1x hdmi, 1x dvi-i and 1x dvi-d. My vn247h comes with 2 hdmi ports and a vga port however my gpu's displayport is taken by my first monitor, my first hdmi cable by my second monitor. How do I use a dvi-d/ dvi-i port on my gpu to connect it to my monitors hdmi port?

I'm planning to buy Asus h97-pro gamer or h97-pro but I just read in the specifications of h97-pro gamer on newegg "Supports DVI-D with max. resolution 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz" Does it mean I will be limited to 60hz if connect my 144hz monitor with motherboard DVI-D. Is there any other way of getting 144hz while using my motherboad? Will the problem be solved by connecting my gtx 970 DVI-D with monitor DVI-D ? Monitor - Benq XL2420Z ( newer xl2430t is na where I live) Cpu - Intel i5-4690 (non K) Mobo - Asus h97-pro gamer or h97-pro Gpu - gtx 970 Psu - Corsair cs750m Hdd - Seagate barracuda 1TB Ram(2x4gb) - RipjawsX F3-12800CL7D-8GBXM or RipjawsX F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM Cpu cooler - Cooler master hyper 212 evo Case - Corsair Graphite Series 230T Feel free to comment any other suggestions for the build.

I know most people say that the cable that you use in your monitor doesn't really matter as long as it's digital signal and there are a lot unnecessarily overpriced cables out there that promises to deliver the "best quality possible" but a $10 cable would do just fine. I'm buying the Ultra Wide monitor Dell UtraSharp U3415W which has a resolution of 3440x1440 and a refresh rate of 60Hz by default. I've seen a lot o people getting to 75Hz with no problem with this monitor, using the Nvidia driver. I'm going to buy a cable for this monitor just to make sure I will not be limited by the cable. After doing some reserch, I've found this post: If you are too lazy to read, this guy says that the cable you chose DOES affect how much you can overclock and the shorter and the thicker the cable, the better. The problem is, my monitor doesn't seem to have a DVI port. Here are it's inputs: 1 HDMI v2.0 1 MHL 1 Mini DisplayPort 1 DisplayPort (version 1.2) 1 DisplayPort out (MST) So, what could be the best option for me? A DisplayPort cable? Which one?

Hi guys. I was reading around trying to figure out why I could not get two monitors to run on my Zotac 750 ti and I ran into some interesting information that is not something I am familiar with. So, I have two identical Dell monitors that connect via VGA but my graphics card has only DVI-I and DVI-D connections so I have 2 different adapters to connect the two VGA cables however the monitor plugged into the DVI-D will not show an image despite being recognised by Windows. (I have tried multiple configurations) Apparently this may be due to an analog vs digital issue of sorts that I just cannot wrap my head around, does anyone have any information on the matter who might be able to clear it up for an idiot like me Thanks P.S It may just be a dodgy DVI-D adapter... P.S.S The card in question http://www.zotac.com/products/graphics-cards/geforce-700-series/gtx-750-ti/product/gtx-750-ti/detail/geforce-gtx-750-ti/sort/starttime/order/DESC/amount/10/section/specifications.html

Hey guys, I am thinking of building a new rig and get a new monitor too. First of all I want to ask whether HDMI or DVI-D/dualport etc. would be the better connection option for 1440p @ 60Hz IPS (Im thinking of getting the ASUS pb278q or the BENQ bl2710pt). IF dvi-d/dualport etc. is recommended/better for gaming performance in your opinion for this resolution and refresh rate monitor, then do I have to change my motherboard because on the specs of the GIGABYTE z97x ud5h bk read that, and I quote: 1 x D-Sub port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200@60Hz 1 x DVI-D port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200@60Hz * The DVI-D port does not support D-Sub connection by adapter. 1 x HDMI port, supporting a maximum resolution of 4096x2160@24Hz or 2560x1600@60Hz * Support for HDMI 1.4a version. Support for up to 3 displays at the same time Maximum shared memory of 1 GB Does this mean that I have to use HDMI because the motherboard supports HDMI up to 1600x2560 @ 60Hz. Going by what the specs say, can I still use dvi-d between this motherboard and the monitor? So the question is whether HDMI or dvi-d/dualport etc. connection is better for gaming with a monitor with these specs. IF and ONLY IF this is the case, and that I cant do dvi-d with 1440p with this motherboard will I change the motherboard to one that supports dvi-d for 1440p @ 60hz. Thanks !
