I recently bought a Zotac GTX 780 AMP! card. I installed it in my system and played about 30hrs of games on a single monitor (display port) without issue. I then hooked up my other two monitors (total of three - displayport, dvi, dvi) and enabled nvidia surround. After about 3 minutes of playing Dirt 3 (20s of actual game play), a monitor lost it's input signal. This monitor happened to be plugged into the lower DVI port on the card. I troubleshooted bad dvi cables, and bad monitors by switching cables and monitors and they all appeared to be in good working order. Two different monitors both failed to detect input from the lower DVI port. But, both the nvidia drivers and windows detect the monitor as being plugged into that port. This leads me to believe that the port has crapped out. Anyone have any other ideas? Trouble shooting seems to have pointed out the issue, but the circumstances surrounding the failure seem suspicious.

My PC will boot up, but my monitor will say "no signal detected". I do not believe that my GPU is dead, the cooler spins up just fine on it, and it gets warm. I have tried plugging the DVI cable directly into the motherboard to see if the BIOS had been altered but no such luck, it still said "no signal detected" which leads be to believe it hadn't. It was working completely fine, I opened up my PC (something that I do fairly often) to put in my new CPU cooler. When I tried to boot up again I ran into this issue. Please help

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and thought I may as well ask my first question (sorry if it seems nooby). I've got a Sony Vaio Pro that I've plugged into my monitor (Dell 2209WA), for some reason most programs seem clear but the file explorer is blurry. The file explorer isn't blurry when looking at the laptop's display, just the monitor. It's plugged in using a HDMI to DVI converter. I'm currently running Windows 8.1 and found when a program looked blurry, to go into settings -> compatibility and click disable display scaling on high DPI settings. Don't know how that works with the file explorer. Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks for any help!

Hey, I've got a problem with my second monitor. I plugged a DVI to HDMI cable from my computer to my TV so as to watch shows in it and not in the monitor. The problem is that in the TV, everything is zoomed in. I've got Windows 8.1 and a GTX580 with the latest drviers. Any ideas?

Hi, My XFX HD7870 Ghz edition wont connect to tree displays. i have an Asus DVI monitor, some kind of hdmi small tv or monitor and my tv that is a sony with hdmi and i am trying to connect all of them to my pc. i already search for this problem online and people told me to connect the DVI, the HDMI, and to use a MiniDisplayport to HDMI adapter on the displayport thing on my card. i bought the mini displayport adapter and now that i connected it, it doesn't work. now they told me to use an active display por to hdmi adapter and bla bla bla, but it cost like $26 bucks on amazon and i will like to know what you think about it first. is there any way to connect this using cables that i already have? i tried with 2 DVI and one hdmi and like all the combinations and it says they to use 3 displays i have to use a mini-displayport connection.

Hey, So I bought a BenQ XL2411T since we do not have the 2420TE here yet ( and importing it sounds expensive and difficult ). I've been using it for a bit more than a month, connected to my GTX780 using a straight DVI to DVI cable ( provided with the monitor ). Also, I have a Asrock Z77 Extreme4 mobo. Two days ago, I boot my comp' in order to watch a few episodes before going to bed. No issues. The morning after, I boot it up again to read the news before going to work : bios screen and Windows loading screen display at a very small resolution, and when the loading is complete, black screen with "No Signal Detected!". So I tried a few things : - rebooted and went into failsafe mode : windows show up, at a 800x600 resolution. Removed the GPU drivers entirely, rebooted, no luck. - went into safe mode, installed latest nvidia drivers, no luck either. - connected with a hdmi cable equipped with a dvi-to-hdmi dongle. Worked ( although I can't use full 1080p 120hz resolution, which in my book is a fail ) - deactivated the iGPU in case it was suddenly conflicting, no luck. - tried reversing the hdmi to dvi cable, as well as plug it in any conceivable ways : DVI1 to HDMI, DVI2 to HDMI, HDMI to DVI, iGPU HDMI to DVI, iGPU DVI to HDMI. Everything worked. I didn't try HDMI to HDMI, though, but I bet it works. - Also, I tried connecting DVI1 to DVI, DVI2 to DVI, as well as iGPU DVI to DVI. No Signal Detected. In short, it seems like everything but straight DVI to DVI is working, which lead me to believe the cable became faulty overnight ( I should mention I have 2 cats, so, yeah, they may have been spreading some mayhem ... ). But I also read about faulty monitor EDID which may happen randomly, so I take a look on the Internet and got myself a few tools to check and replace the EDID. Couldn't update it though, as Powerstrip seems to be the only tool and requires to be bought to update the monitor EDID. While I'm trying to get a new dual link dvi cable to do some tests, what would you guys suggest? Did you ever run into this issue?

Hello, So i was wandering, 1) What is DVI-I different form DVI-D except the connector is different? 2) what is the quality of DVI? is it just as good as HDMI? 3) What is displayport? And what quality is it compared to DVI and HDMI? Thank you very much

Hi guys, So i was wondering what the performance difference is between HDMI and DVI. I know DVI is better but by how much. I'm asking because i'm thinking about switching from HDMI to DVI. I'll do it eventually, but if the difference is good enough I might change now. Only problem then is the cables who are quite expensive for me ( I'm 14). So what do you recommend switch now? or spend my money on other things?

My current setup for my new build will contain 3 U2412ms running on a 780ti. My goal is to have one of the monitors have an input from both my cable box and from my gpu. Since the U2412m does not have an hdmi input, I knew I needed to employ some adapters. I ordered one of these in an attempt to run hdmi from my cable box to the displayport input. However, I soon discovered that this adapter is not bi-directional. In other words, you can't run HDMI OUT to DP IN without a much more expensive adapter. This leaves me with DVI. It is my understanding that HDMI and DVI are essentially the same interface (minus audio). Can anyone confirm that DVI is bi-directional? In other words, can I run HDMI OUT from my cable box to DVI-D IN on my u2412m using a basic adapter? This monitor would then be connected to my gpu via displayport. I would then run the other two monitors with standard DVI cables into my gpu. I appreciate any information.

I've currently got 2 monitors connected to my computer via a Dual-link DVI and HDMI. Because my 1440p monitor must use the dual-link DVI slot, I cannot use a DVI to VGA converter. However do mini display ports allow passive cables to give an analog signal such as VGA. I will only be using 1 monitor at a time and eyefinity will never be used, I have a 7970 with 2 DVI ports, HDMI and mini display port. I just want to be able to use my VGA 768p monitor sometimes for gaming. Thanks.

Hi, I am asking a question on behalf of my friend who is too shy to use the forum. Maybe we can convince him that this is the place to come, and everybody is friendly... He currently has: 1) an Nvidea gtx 570, running a 1080p monitor via DVI and 2) a 1080p HDTV also ADAPTED to use DVI (from HDMI). For some reason we cannot get the tv to display any picture just by plugging it into the HDMI port on the GPU. It works just fine through an HDMI to DVI adapter..... Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance

Anybody running 3 monitors and are converting a display port to dvi so the 3rd monitor functions? I currently have two video cards with a total of 4 dvi ports but was thinking about getting another video card (which would mean I have two dvi ports, one display port, and one hdmi port).

hey guys, so ive had my 1080p monitor, and i have a shoddy second monitor running at just above 720p. i plan to replace the 720p with a 1440p and make that my new main monitor. the reason why i want 1440p instead of 1080p is a) larger screen so more pixels b) i have a MBP with retina display, everything looks shite now c) more is always better! so i've looked around, and the reviews for this look good on amazon, but i would like to know what you guys think and if theres anything else that compares (at not a ridiculous price!) http://www.amazon.co.uk/PB278Q-Widescreen-Multimedia-2560x1440-DisplayPort/dp/B009668YPM/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2D35C5IB1LYEF&coliid=ISAI5M06D6HOC

so im in the works of building a system, and its my first build thats aimed at gaming. my one now has 2 monitors at 1080 each. im looking into a 280x this holiday season, and i plan on getting 2 or 3 better monitors in the next year or so. i havent really ever seen a monitor with display port on it (at least one that would be in my price range.), so i want one with 2 hdmi ports and 2 vga (dvi? i always get them confused) ports on it. i know the r9 series just came out, so are they just doing stock ports for now? or is that just a 280x thing to not have that port config. my question is if the manufacturers come out with this output port config, how long should i wait before i pull the trigger on getting a 280x?

So I have a 23 inch monitor connected to my AMD 7750 via DVI. I have another DVI port and an old Samsung TV, 19 inch, 1440x900. I know this is the resolution of the TV, I've used it before. Any way, with the DVI connection, Windows sees it as a 1080p display for some reason, and its almost like the pixels don't know where to be. they jitter up and down. I played with the resolutions and setting it to 900p didn't fix anything. It didn't do this on VGA, but that port has a bent receiver so it has a blue tint (its almost silly.) so just switching to VGA isnt an option. It does have component inputs, and I found a dvi to component converter on amazon. Would that fix this jittering? ***I know it is not the cable or graphics card because both ports on the graphics card I tested with my main monitor and same with the DVI cables. Thanks!

Hello fellow internetpeople As the title says my DVI outputs arent working, for some reason which is beyond me as they worked just 2 weeks ago. Everything is hooked up as it should and the DP out is working just fine, no grapical glitches (No anomalies in CCC or GPU-Z either). But neither of the DVI outputs are working no matter what i do The monitors all work and have been tested on seperate machines, i've had this problem before which i solved by replacing my perfectly fine DVI-D cables with an identical pair, this fixed everything for some god damn reason. And now after 2 weeks of downtime (vacation) they've decided to not work again. I've tried booting with just 1 DVI plugged in, with 2 DVI's plugged in, nothing works So now i ask you guys as i've exhausted my creativity, please for the love of GabeN, help me!

Hello linustechtips members! I have an old VGA monitor that's connected with my motherboard, And I want to buy a new monitor for a 2 monitor setup. So the question is, Can I use my old VGA monitor with my new monitor that i'm going to buy? for example, the new monitor will be connected to my GPU, and my old VGA monitor will be connected to my motherboard. I'll be using my new monitor for gaming and my other VGA monitor will be used for other tasks..etc. Will they work together without any drawbacks? Thank you and sorry for my bad English!

Hey guys, been a while since I posted and I was just wondering depending on the connection you use to display to your monitor, does it affect the colour itself? So I did some tests to see if the monitors (Acer H236Hl bid) were like this from the factory so I swapped the connections they were using. In our case its HDMI and DVI. Doing this the results were always DVI has more of a deep colour while as HDMI was a bit lighter. I personally prefer HDMI but im not sure if a DVI to HDMI connection would change anything. It's not to noticeable but it's there and I would like explanation if possible. P.s They were like this since day one. Thanks in advance GoldenTree

Hello folks at Linus TechTips, i make this because after making some testing i started noticing some weird stuff in my frame rate. I have an old Samsung SuncMaster 633NW monitor with only a VGA output to put at my Graphis Card (Radeon HD 5750); this guy has been reliable for gaming at 720p as it is good for me with antialiasing and anisotropic filtering applied and med to high settings in games; the thing is i started noticing this with the first time i played Battlefield 3 on the system because despite the game setting automatic on high and the game ran choppy and slow, i started fraps and started analyzing different settings and the playable result was normal with some stuff on low wich was weird as the fps counter said the avg framerate was 55fps; then i made explosions, cranked up settings and realized that anything below 50 fps looked like that even with the counter saying 45 or 36 fps in that escene. This problem has been repeated through: Max Payne 3, Dead Space 1, 2 and 3, DiRT 3, Darksiders 2, Far Cry 3, Warface; in other words, every single game i trow at it starts making choppy and the average value of 50 fps and below, my question is. Is the VGA port on the monitor responsible (as it depends on analog converters) or is it the graphics card? I made some stability test on my gracphis (MSi Kombustor) and it went through it without hassle at stock speeds (i had it overclocked before and it began to overheat so i got back to stock, also made a dust cleaning) so my principal suspect is the Monitor. Anyone else have any sugestions? PD: Also noticed that for example in Max Payne 3 as i activated Vsync and locked at 30 FPS i ran good without sttutering, but when it got below it sucked; this applies to other games too. Thanks for reading in advice.

So I got 3 Dell UltraSharp 1908FPs from a local computer shop for a low price. They only support VGA and DVI-D. I want to use my MSI Radeon R9 270 Gaming OC Edition card to run all three in an EyeFinity setup. I figured I could just use one DVI-D to DVI-D cable, one HDMI-DVI-D cable, and a DisplayPort-DVI-D cable. When I went to order them on Monoprice, it said: These cables are not recommended for eyefinity setups, as they are a passive cable adapter in the description of the DisplayPort cable. Is this true in my situation or is this only if I was using a DisplayPort splitter. Other cable setup suggestions are welcome if you think they would work.
