So i'm curious and you all feedback to this so i work for best buy geeksquad as a computer technician (hey don't judge pay ain't bad and you gotta start somewhere) but anyways some dude walks in with a computer and as like this ain't work please help so I take it I notice the scent blistering from it at first I didn't understand then I understood exactly what it was... weed anyways try and start it and it start very long and shitty i get in and no viruses no malware nothing bad not even cookies this dude had his shit together then I go in and I know exactly what has to be done I gotta clean out this thing and trust me it was horrifying now i wasn't allowed to take photos (infact my manager doesn't allow phone to do out during work period unless it's an urgent call from my mom and btw the whole time he was standing like 15 feet away watching me and my coworker) but anyways this photo looked about as similar as can be like yes that was dust, dirt, hopefully animal hair and probably built up weed because it smelt like it so I literally had to get a freaking vacuum cleaner and just sucked that all away and then the final compressed air for the nooks and cranies the result his pc worked immediately flawlessly... well stoners will be stoners

Hello everyone, Now I got a question which does really annoy me and I can't seem to get rid of it. So how do you get rid of dust from your room? I have a bedroom and also there is my desk which after a couple days of house cleaning gets covered in tons of dust. It is really annoying as I have a white desk, so I can see dust quite clearly. I clean my house (family house) every Saturday. I try to keep the window open as much as possible however I don't want to get myself sick so I close it most of the time when its too cold. I don't know what to do, my desk gets covered in dust, my pc as well and its just disgusting to see it all the time. Am I not doing something that I should be doing? Any tips and recommendations are greatly appreciated, Thanks,

OK guys can you help me out with this one? I'm gonna build a new X99 platform system and some things are of most importance. Just two requirements! 1. AS LITTLE DUST AS POSSIBLE 2. AS LITTLE NOISE AS POSSIBLE The tricky part : *Windowed case is a must *AIO CPU cooler is a must NOTICE: I don't require an absolute dustless and noiseless system just as little as possible. In case you're interested in my potential future X99 build :

So we all know you're not supposed to vacuum your PC to kill dust. It creates static electricity, which isn't really what you want to be discharged in your system. But blowing - even if your hoover can do reverse - is fine. I always assumed that the dust is being charged from whatever, but can anyone explain why it only happens from sucking, not blowing? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

PC repairers, what is the strangest/worst thing you have ever encountered in a customers computer (This includes tons of dust) Also, what was the customers reaction when they heard what the problem was? 2 things happened to me personally: 1.I had just come back from a holiday and when I turned it on, I failed to notice the 3cm thick layer of dust on top of the case get sucked in. Then when playing a game my computer randomly BSODed. opened it up and the GPU and CPU Heatsinks were completely clogged with dust. needless to say, after that i put heavy duty dust filters on my PC 2. after going away for the weekend, I noticed a four odor coming from my PC. I though it was a blown capacitor suddenly catching fire but a mouse had died on the north bridge heatsink and his fur was burning. not very pleasant when you have a small room that gets air circulated around fast. I had the windows open for 23Hrs to get the smell out. Whats your story? cheers, hman out

Hello, So I bought this HP Pavilion 530 Desktop 8 months ago, at first I could run games such as CSGO at ~ 50 fps on high settings, and Arma 3 at ~ 30 fps on LOW, now I am running CSGO on low at ~ 40fps, I have my antivirus disabled while playing it and no other programs besides skype, steam and the actual game. Now I am running CSGO at ~40 fps on LOW and Arma 3 at ~ 10 fps on VERY LOW, my friends who have the same games have not changed any of their game settings. I know that my computer is dusty on the inside and I am wondering if that could be the cause of the lack of performance, and if I open the case will it terminate the warranty(4 months remaining). Please If you need anymore information please ask, I am kinda new to computers :D, Thank you Specs: CPU : AMD A10-7800 12 COMPUTE CORES(8C + 4C) @ 3.5 GHZ, Air Cooled GPU: AMD Radeon R7, Air Cooled RAM : 8G OS: WINDOWS 10

So I'm putting together a build for a machine shop. Needless to say it's dusty in there, but more than just having fan filters, I want a case that allows you to easily slide out the intake filters to clean them regularly, without having to take anything else off the case like a front panel. Here's a quick example of what I would like (from the phanteks enthoo mini xl) https://youtu.be/r1nPVLuWFNo?t=27s Also see the attached image below (dunno how to resize using bbcode on this community...) Guidelines: - Needs to support ATX form factor - No extensive modding. This is a pilot configuration of sorts, so I'm going to push for upgrading the rest of the computer cases in the shop after this one (modding would get old real fast after 5 cases) - Limited amount of open areas on the case. No fan mounts on the side panels unless they have removable filters too - I'm open to airflow pathway options other than front to back, as long as it's filtered and could support positive air pressure - Should be a nice case, as my budget isn't too tight on this build. If a cheap case comes with bomb-ass fan filters you might as well mention it though - It doesn't have to be released yet, tell me if there's something good on the horizon (for example, the new corsair 400c would be my perfect case for this build if you could remove the front fan filter without having to take the front panel off first) I haven't had much success looking for a case that meets these, so I figured I'd ask if anyone here had suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Today I cleaned out my families' old HP from 2003, and was suprised by the amount of dust. It has probably never been opened before this, and most of the dust was around the fans, and a lot less of it then I thought there would be. I just happened to glance at the cpu heatsink. Not even compressed air could get it, going to get some thermal paste so I can take it off and clean it. Show off any you have pictures of below.

I have a Corsair Carbide 500R that has a huge open side grill with a 200mm fan. I notice that it builds up dust on the outside and inside of my case fairly quickly, so I went looking for a solution. I found this site. That makes a number of attachable air filters for various computer cases. So I'm just curious, has anyone here used them and have any input on whether they're good or not?

I just checked inside my rig and it was quite dusty, especially around my intake fans. Having fully opened it, I realized I was out of air compressor and I wasn't able to go out and buy some, so I just used my lungs and blew away the thick layers that surrounded the fans and some areas of my gpu. Now it looks a lot better. Then it occurred to me that maybe that wasn't the best idea. I heard that using vacuum cleaners builds up static. I didn't use one, but does manually blowing air into the system using your lungs cause issues? Is my computer gonna die!!! Help... Thanks

Hey guys, I live in California, a place which is notorious for very dusty air. I have a Corsair spec 01, and two case fans in the front panel. Over my last two months of use, the dust filter has become severely caked with dust that blocks airflow. I was wondering if I might damage any parts of my computer if I simply vacuumed the from of my case to get the dust out. Taking the front panel off is an option, but it's very difficult. Please let me know if i'm running any risks by doing this. NEVERMIND: found this. http://www.howtogeek.com/57870/ask-how-to-geek-why-you-should-never-vacuum-your-pc-converting-books-for-the-kindle-and-controlling-multiple-computers-with-one-keyboard/

Hey guys, my current graphics card has been underperforming and one of the possibilities is thermal-throttling. Even if the fan isn't due to regular air-can use, the heatsink isn't as easy to reach as I'd like and has become gunked up - blasting the heatsink with air from many an angle doesn't get the job done. I assume the next step is to take the cooler off the card and clean it that way. Here's the front of the card: It has three screws holding it in to the heatsink (from the looks of it). Here's the back of the card: It has four screws which appear in the majority of tutorials for taking apart the card, although one of them has a sticker on, so I'm not entirely sure I should remove those since there's no guarantee that it will solve the issue with the card, and would mean that if it's actually defective, I can't return it. What should I do next?

So, I am in an odd situation, a volcano erupted south to where I live and now the sky looks blurry. No ash raining or anything so dramatic but i thought it might be an interesting thought, if you are near an active volcano and you got ash at surface level (again not my case but made me wonder) can you kiss your electronic components goodbye? I know sulfur content, either as SO2 or H2S can damage PCBs very fast (That's why motherboards don't last long in the more polluted parts of China) Not really asking for help, just thought, this is an unusual situation and who knows, maybe someone here has gone through it. Just wanted to share the thought

Far as I know, this topic doesn't currently exist. Post a picture of your rig's air filter as it currently is. My air 540 filter, last cleaned two weeks ago, probably clean it tomorrow. (my temps are still fine btw)

So, where should i start? it all began in the late 2014 when i finally knew that my old desktop was completely dead due to diferrent black screens and stuff. But as i needed a pc , i finally succeded in convincing my sister to buy a new one and give hers to me. it isn't fast, only a pentium duo at 1,88 Ghz and 4 GB of ram but it is enough for what i have to do, internet and really old games that don't require any gpu horsepower at all so, i got it and immediately noticed how easily hot it actually got... i thought that it was due to the fact that pentiums in general overheat soo much ( i had a pentium4 that got so damn hot) Now it had started getting so hot that even keeping it an inch from the table didn't help ( nearly 75 celsius un the two cores and the M gpu)... i finally resolved to desperately build a cooling pad extremely powerful ( the cardbord made it so strong ahhaha ), completely sealed and super effective with the fan of another laptop to make more pressure and push more air on the goddamn heat dissipator here are the fotos: but that was not the maximum of comfort as it sounded kinda like a jet plane ahha... after shutting down another time due to overheating i finally resolved to open the pc clean everything and close it again, there i found a monstrous amount of pressurized dust... Now after cleaning and replacing the shitty thermal paste i got a decent 40 degrees under load and 35 with my ghetto cooler, not bad huh the moral of the story is: always clean your notebook's innternals , at least do it as soon as the warranty is over

Hey guys! So my PC is getting kinda dusty, and I was thinking of cleaning it this weekend. I've watched videos and read posts, and everyone says to use compressed air. I don't see how that would help. All compressed air would do is displace the dust. The dust would come back in anyway by the time you finish cleaning. A vacuum would be better because there wouldn't be any dust left over. And why would a vacuum generate static?

A buddy of mine asked me to come over and take a look at his computer, np says its been acting strange and is very loud. This is the fresh HELL i got my self into !!!!

I am going to choose one of these two cases for my gaming build and i want to know the best fan orientation to have positive air pressure and reduce dust build up. cases: http://www.thermaltake.com/Chassis/Mid_Tower_/Versa/C_00002299/Versa_H21_Window/design.htm and http://www.thermaltake.com/Chassis/Mid_Tower_/Versa/C_00002301/Versa_H22_Window/design.htm thanks

Hello everybody! What is the Dirtiest / Dustiest PC you've ever cleaned in your life? Mine was an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ Machine from 2003 that my friend gave to me. Unfortunately I only have pictures of it after I cleaned it. Share your horrifying story and pictures of the Dirtiest / Dustiest PC's You've Ever Cleaned!

I recently cleaned my computer from dust using a air compressor. It has worked great all the other times when I've done it, until now. My PSU (a Chieftec super series 650w) has started making weird humming/rattling/howling noises at random times ever since. Is it possible that the fan has gotten out of place when I blew the dust away? Or has it maybe been damaged? Don't feel like buying a new one, even though its kinda old.

So a couple of months ago I bought the 900D on sale, and it's been great however I've noticed some dust collecting in the system. Its a positive pressure system with the 5 fans intake and 1 exhaust. (Just saving money to do full water loop and X99 till then its pretty bare bones.) All of the dust that is inside the system is around the intakes, with most of the dust being stopped by the front and top mesh filters, but some is still getting through the filters. This is not a big deal since I can just take compressed air to the system but I am wondering if anyone else is having this issue or if its just me. (Never owned a case with dust filters till I bought the 900D so my expectations may be to much.)

so im planning to get myself a new screen, but it wont fit on my desk, and at the same time i dont want my computer to stand directly on the floor for dust reasons. So im curious about what i should place my precious computer on, im considering something like a tile you guys have any idea?
