Hello all, I’ve recently purchased a laptop that was setup to dual boot. I’d like for it not too but I can’t seem to figure out how. I’ve reinstalled windows, and even tried to consolidate the disk. Any help would be much appreciated.

Guys uninstalling windows after installing linux with s probably my worst mistake.. and whenever I try to make some free space in my 1 tb hard drive it shows like this.... The windows bootdrive ain't even working properly, whenever I press f12 and select it to boot, it spits some errors and returns to linux bootscreen..

Hello, I have a Predator Triton PT315-51(2019) with i5-9300H, 16GB RAM, GTX 1650, 256GB Boot Drive. I have installed "manjaro-xfce-21.2.4-minimal-220301-linux515" on a separate SSD in dual mode. So I had to change SATA Controller from Optane with RAID to AHCI(and reinstall windows). After installation of Linux, everything seems to be working fine. I can use both Windows 10 and Manjaro. But when try to access BIOS by pressing F2, it just shows a black screen with a blinking underscore on top left corner of screen. So how should I fix this? -
I have a laptop which has dual boots into Ubuntu & Windows 10. I recently decided to just get rid of Ubuntu since having the GNU GRUB Bootloader was really annoying, so I followed this tutorial which sort of worked, but now I'm just stuck with an error whenever I reboot my laptop: I'm able to just type "EXIT" and it'll boot into Windows, but I just want GNU Grub to be gone, after following the tutorial linked above It appears Ubuntu just shouldn't exist, and yet somehow GNU Grub continues to exist. When I go into CMD prompt and try to find the Ubuntu/GRUB folder it's not there (as expected, I deleted it), but obviously it is. Does anyone know how I can just kill it? I do not want it anymore lol.

Lenovo Legion 5 pro laptop Dualbooting ubuntu and win 10 Yesterday evening i was using the laptop on win 10 as usual. The laptop worked with no problems. After that i pressed update&shutdown and went to sleep. Next morning: After turning it on it's completely silent (no fan speed) and has a black screen. It's unresponsive to keyboard shortcuts or getting into bios. Somehow i managed to get to grub once, so i know that the kb and display work. After selecting windows in grub it went back to a black screen. I can't manage to get back into grub to try to see if ubuntu works. Things I have tried: - turning off by holding the power button and then turning it on after some time - opening it, removing the battery, powercycling it, turning it back on - windows + ctrl + shift + b - spamming every key possible to get into bios Also noticed the day before the problem that the time and date in windows were off and had to fix them -
Me again, another topic So I still have a dual boot Win10/Linux Lint system Wanted to update to Win11, used the update tool, it did update ok but then ended up refusing to boot with NO BOOT DRIVE Had to rollback to Win10, wondering if the issue could be that Win11 don't like GRUB/dual boot ??? What should I do ?

Hey guys just built my first pc. my system has ryzen 3 2200g with integrated radeon graphics asus a320i-k prime itx motherboard 16GB cosair vengence DDR4 ram timings set to 15-15-15-36. m.2 nvme 256GB(will update storage in future) silver stone 500W 80+Gold. PC is mainly for gaming but i will throw in other work loads like CAD projects or streaming. I have partitioned my m.2 for 30gb for windows 10 and 32gb for linux with the rest to be shared access between the two OS.... at least that was the plan. I have windows 10 successfully on its portion. but i am having trouble figuring out how to get ubuntu onto its portion of the m.2. ive been reading up on how do dual boot but its over my head. would appreciate any advise or guide to help me get this done. -
Hi Guys, I'm having a problem when Dual Booting a Linux distro in my laptop.. I'm getting an error which is "Unable to Install Grub In Dev/sda (the partition. I chose to install grub) how to Dual boot kde neon correctly. I'm a beginner, please explain it very easily.... And if I set a efi partition and install boot loader into that partition it also gives me an error.. it is "failed to install grub-amd64" ... Please help me...

Hey everyone. I am trying to install kali linux on my pc with windows 10 on the side. My PC is HP Gaming PC 1TB HDD which is GPT with 16GB Optane Drive. I have created 100GB Partition to install kali, but the partitions are not showing. Any Suggestions? -

To make this short and simple: I want to dual boot PopOS but can't even install it. I'm currently running my win10 and if I set up all the partitions needed, I can't choose a boot partition. It will keep telling me that "EFI is not on GPT disk" Gonna be completely honest and admit I have no clue what to do and I don't understand most of the terms (native German PogChamp). So in the picture you can see my problem. Any advice appreciated as always. Thanks a lot. PS: Yes. I tried to choose another drive or partition and still doesn't work. And yes I am using the latest version.

Hello All, I'm not a crazy computer wiz, I've built a couple PCs and fiddled around with some programming but nothing major. I just got a new laptop, a Razer Blade 15, but I want to use it for work and gaming. I wanted to partition the drive into two sections, one with about 150gb of space for work (I don't need a lot because most items are in the cloud or very small), and another drive with the rest of the storage for gaming. When I boot up my laptop I want to be presented with the option to choose the gaming partition, or the work partition. Is this possible and can anyone point me in the right direction or let me know how to do this? It would be very much appreciated.

laptop:- Acer helios 300 PH317-53 I was trying to set up a dual boot with linux and windows on seperate ssds I did these things before installing linux in bios RST disable (using ahci instead) Set BIOS supervisor password Secure boot disable enable F12 Windows boot mgr Then i proceeded to install manjaro with KDE and the installation was successful, but after that when i tried to access bios i just couldn't. There was just a "-" on the top left corner and nothing else wiping the linux ssd seems to solve the problem any help would be really appreciated :) -

Hello! I want to get familiar with Linux. On my PC I have 1 SSD (with Windows) and 2 HDDs, but they are mostly full, so I took 2.5 HDD from my old laptop and tried to install Linux Mint on it. It is 4th drive in my PC. I want to have dual boot (Win/Mint), and I was wondering is dual boot possible if operating systems are on different drives? I already tried to install it, but I ran into few problems: Mint didn't recognize that I already had Windows installed, so I couldn't install it on my SSD even if I wanted to. I'm not sure what type should my HDD be? I read it should be ext4, but want to be sure. I tried to install it on 2.5 HDD, even thought it didn't give me the option to have dual boot, I just wanted to install it. I went through the whole process of installation and after that it just said that installation wasn't successful. What am I doing wrong? What can I do about dual boot to make it show in options? My system is: i5 6400, RX460 and Gigabyte H170M-D3H-CF. Any help will be much appreciated! -
Since VM seems to be inappropriate for even low-demanding gaming I want to have Windows XP installed along Windows 8.1 64-bit to be able to play TOCA Race Driver 2 one of my first and favorite games I ever played. I am new to the subject and have concerns over mainboard-operating system compability. Are the mainboards out there that support both XP BIOS and 8.1 UEFI?

Hi. My Windows 8.1 has been doing this for a good while but I ignored it given the fact that I rarely use it but I guess it's about time to fix it. Every time I boot into Windows it reboots instantly (no login, no nothing) and upon rebooting it boots normally. Every time. I'm running a Dual Boot between OSX El Capitan and Windows 8.1 using Clover, so basically the computer boots into the selection screen, I pick Windows 8.1, it reboots back to the selection screen, I pick Windows again and it boots fine. OSX works fine, everything works, and so did Windows in the first few months but then this started happening and I got 0 clue why. It also went into test mode but with a quick google search I found a fix for that. They're probably related issues so I thought I mentioned that. If anyone's got any clue on what's going on I'd appreciate some help. My rig is as follows: Intel Core i5 4690k Gigabyte z97x Gaming 3 Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming 16gb DDR3 ram (Kingston Fury something) A metric shit ton of peripherals: 250gb SSD from crucial (split into two partitions for each OS) 2x 1Tb HDD from seagate (one in NTFS and on in exFAT) I cant remember if the PSU is an XFX 550W or 650W All the cooling came with the case (NZXT Noctis 450, 2 intakes on the front, 1 out in the back, 1 out in the top)

i have a windows os and want to dualboot with a linux flavor is there a way to be able to natively run the os but then in windows run it as a vm. so that way i can dualboot but if i need something i an open it as a vm. a easier way to explain this is can a vm tool boot from partition. -
Hello everyone, I looked around the forum for a solution but I think my problem is somewhat unique, if this has been solved please point me to it. This is how my storage is set up: I'm running a dual boot system with 2 Windows installed, Disk 0 is almost full and it's split into 3 partitions where Windows is installed in (C:), Steam and Origin are installed in (G:) and I have steam libraries in (G:), (X:) and recently (T:) and some Origin games installed in (X:) and I also have applications installed all over the place. The other Windows is installed in Disk 2 (W:). What I would like to do is to move the Windows installed in (C:) to a new SSD without losing dual boot and without messing with my Steam/Origin/applications I have installed. So the question is what is the best way to achieve this objective? Thanks in advance! P.S. Both Windows are Windows 7

I got a Raspberry Pi and wanted to use it by plugging in my external hard drives into it and excessing those drives through my network through the Raspberry Pi. I know it'll be slow, but I would just use it to transfer pictures basically. The problem I have is that I want to have a dual boot os where I can either boot the NAS os or the default Rasbian os. I bought a NOOBS sd card with the Raspberry Pi and wanted to know how to add a NAS os to NOOBS. Thanks!

Scenario. I have a Kaby Lake XPS 13 that is dual booted with both Windows 10 home and Linux Mint. Partition Setup. There are three main partitions (plus the boot-loader and what not) on the 256gb nvme drive: For Linux formatted as Mac NTFS For Windows formatted as NTFS For shared documents formatted FAT32 At My Disposal. I have a generic 1tb external hdd that is not in use. The Question. What would be the most elegant way to backup my machine? Ideally in case of failure, I should just be able to clone the partitions back over and be up and running again. Also if I could keep multiple backups (maybe one weekly and one monthly) just in case, that would nice since the hdd is significantly bigger than the nvme drive anyways. Thanks in advance

Ok so, some of you may know that I made the change to Linux Lite 3.0 because I kinda messed up in Windows as the copy to SSD didn't work at all. So, recently my friends have been complaining that I cannot be seen in Skype (because Skype for Linux is terrible and the online beta does not support video chat yet...) so they wan't me to get windows. I don't want to spend money on Windows particularly when I can use Linux for free and still talk to them in Skype but they just can't see me. That is the only problem they have. So, I have come to the conclusion that PERSONALLY Linux is the superior over the two but I am still going to buy Win10 just for them and because I can't play my favourite game Fallout 4 anymore. Will Windows 10 recognise that it was installed on my PC previously and then activate the product key or will I have to buy the product key again? Second, I still wanna use Linux Lite 3.0 so can I still dual boot but do this from starting with Linux? Thanks, Brennan Price.

Hello all. I built myself a new PC earlier this year (with a bit of help from this forum!). But lately, I've been having issues with my multiboot Windows 10 Pro setup. My PC's case has a sata dock, and I've installed Windows 10 Pro on both my internal SSD, and on another SSD I occasionally dock into my case when I need to boot into a different environment. For the longest time, when I wanted to boot into the external SSD, I'd just select the drive in my boot menu, and that drive's version of Windows would boot right up! Which is exactly what I was hoping for. The problems didn't start until after I installed the 1607 anniversary update on both drives. Now, if I boot into the external SSD, a new windows menu comes up that allows me to select a windows OS to start (also allows me to set defaults and such). Problem is, it's inconsistent. Sometimes, when I select an OS, it'll load it right up. Other times, it'll reboot, I have to select the desired boot drive AGAIN, and it loads up the proper OS without showing the menu. If I don't select the external, it'll boot into the internal drive automatically. I'd LIKE to get it back to where I just had to select the desired boot drive and have that OS load up. But I'd settle for simply not having my machine reboot when the OS has been selected in the Windows menu. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks for reading! Hi there. I am bulding a modest gaming pc that should work also as my personal machine. Meaning I am planning on dual boot (windows for games and adobe; debian for the rest). Thing is, I am trying to decide over a mobo (nowadays Asus H110M-M.2 is on the top) but I am concerned about the BIOS coming with UEFI. Anyone know if it can be changed to legacy? Is there a f--g secure boot? I am aksing this because in the past I encountered problems between Linux and UEFI, and I wanna be sure it won't be the case with the new mobo. thanks.

Hi there, So I wanted to remove Ubuntu from my system. I did the classic "remove everything Linux related" in Disk Management. Though it did remove Ubuntu, it did not remove grub with it. Screenshots of partitions attached. Somebody told me to do "bootrec.exe /fixmbr" though Recovery USB, it reported it did something, but I can't tell. It's still there and I'm in the lost. It's not really a problem since I can choose to boot through "windows" instead of "ubuntu" in UEFI, I'm just curious if it's possible to purge it. Have a great day!
