Hey everyone, I was wondering which DSLR cameras can be connected through USB and have a mode, where you can get the "preview" video through that. I have the Sony SLT a57, and you can sort of do it, but you have to go through a HDMI recording hardware for it to work, like the worthless, slow and delayed one I have, the Hauppauge HD Personal Video Recorder 2, which isn't realistic... because I have to do loads of syncing, and the delay on that thing is at least 5 seconds, which is hardcoded, because having a passthrough sending the raw footage wasn't a thought that they had, or that it was something people would like to have for some reason... And going back to the "you can sort of do it", not only is it so dependent on that recording hardware, through the HDMI, it sends ALL of the clutter, like the focus point(s) in the middle, and all of the clutter around the "preview" is included, so it's just cloning what you see on the LCD screen... So, what I'm asking is if there's anyone here that can help me compile a list of DSLR cameras that can send only their preview through USB, has the "rapidfire" mode where you can take loads of pics in a second and has the same fitting for the addon lenses as the SLT a57 has, so I don't have to buy those expensive things again, I have the Sony N50 55mm and the Tamron SP 70-300mm. So why do I want a DSLR, and not the video equivalence, is because I take loads of pics at various racing/car show events, so if I can get more out of the camera, it would be better, because as it is now, the SLT a57 can ONLY take pictures, or record a video, but that's it. And to save you time on your comment, yes, this is absolutely a thing that you can do, I just don't know what DSLRs support the USB passthrough, and have the rapidfire and the same "fitting" if-you-will, that the SLT a57 has, and no, I have no idea if everyone has the same "fitting", or different ones. So, I'm reaching out here because I wanna learn, as much as I would like to use a DSLR as a "webcam" to increase the quality on my streams/videos.

Best Camera for VideoMaking
RainingBrainzHDSchoolAcont posted a topic in Photography and Videography
Hello! I was wondering what are some of my options for creating Marques Brownlee and Austin Evan style videos on Youtube. I am okay with pre-owned camera and audio hardware. My budget is under 300$, preferably for both pieces of equipment combined, but more money can be allocated for a decent microphone. I live in Houston Texas, so US prices are acceptable.- 4 replies

The widely discussed hot topic DSLR vs Mirrorless Camera?? But with a new turn - in consideration with videography - which is better and that too 4k at 60fps video. And to make the matters worse let us compare finely in the budget to middle tier upto $850. So, guys lets find out via discussion which one holds the crown. ? Ultimately I gave to buy it so simply lets find out who delivers the best performance at the best price point.

Cannon Launches the next gen full frame RF cameras, R5 and R6 the R5 does 8k raw and 4k 120, 45mp sensor 3900$ R6 does 4k60, 20mp sensor 2500$ both have IBIS, digic X processor, output 4k 60 4:2:2 10 bit, can focus at F22 with lenses R5 has issues recording for long periods of time due to heat RF lenses 85mm F2 macro 500g 5 stop IS stm motor 600$ 100-500mm F4.-7.1 1.35kg expands during zooms and only works with teleconverters over 300mm 5 stops of IS dual nano AF 2700$ 600mm F11 telli fixed f11 950g 5 stops of IS expands before shooting STM motor 700$ 800mm F11 telli fixed f11 1.2kg 4 stops of IS expands before shooting STM motor 900$ RF teleconverters 1.4x 500$ 2.0x 600$ My thoughts the r5 is a 5D mkIV replacement but I doubt the headline 8k video will get much use given in raw its 2600mb/s filling up a 512gb CF card in 20 mins which is also how long it takes the camera to overheat. the R6 is the better buy for video especially with an external recorder 85mm macros are nice, so far looks to be a good lens. it is cheaper than the L f1.2 85mm macro or 100mm L macro 100-500mm: I don't like non fixed aperture zooms but its a long zoom 600,800 the fixed aperture and expandable nature almost make these feel like spotting scopes, not a big fan of STM motors but not bad. teleconverters are useful and are a needed add-on Sources https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/explore/product-showcases/cameras-and-lenses/eos-r5 https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canon-eos-r6-initial-review https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canon-eos-r5-initial-review https://www.dpreview.com/articles/9552347046/hands-on-with-canon-s-new-rf85mm-f2-macro-is-stm https://www.dpreview.com/articles/3349669626/hands-on-with-new-canon-rf-100-500mm-600mm-and-800mm-telephoto-lenses

saw this add for $600 is it worth it if yes what should i look for .. Little used mid-range DSLR with only 7072 actuations. Bought as a replacement for a D5200 that I thought I had lost, which I found 2 years later, and then sold. My interest in photography has waned, thus the sale. THE PRICE IS FIRM UNLESS YOU CAN JUSTIFY WHY IT IS NOT APPROPRIATE. Please do not ask to buy individual components. Included are: Nikon D5200 body with only 7072 actuations (it's tested to 100,000) Sigma 18-200 mm optically stabilized lens Nikon DX VR 18-55 lens with UV filter Nikon DX 50 mm lens with UV filter Nikon DX 35 mm lens with UV filter Nikon MH-24 wall charger with 2 batteries Nikon EH-68P outlet to camera charger Nikon HB-47 hood Nikon HB-46 hood Nikon ML-L3 remote control Lowe pro camera bag Nikon soft sacks (2) for 50 and 35 mm lenses

Hi, I'd like to share my experience with the Rode VideoMicro microphone, which on first sight looks like one of those Ebay microphones like Boya etc. But it's far away from that. Picking up the package from the post office I revealed a really nice box, not bad quality at all. Some of the letters had a "golden" layer over it, which I found quite nice as a design detail. In the box there were: Rode VideoMicro Microphone Microphone Cable (3.5 mm to 3.5mm) *phone compatible cable is sold separately* Rode Wind Filter (aka Dead Cat) User manual Warranty (2 years!!) Picking up the microphone I noticed that it was made out of aluminium, which is quite unexpected for this price range. Even the microphone grill was aluminium and really nice (even to look at). Due to the use of aluminium, I was surprised at how light the microphone is. It's robust as much as it gets for this price range. In the meantime, I've noticed that the usual sponge microphone cover was not included, but I've noticed that there wouldn't be any use for it. If it's windy, you put on wind filter (filming outside etc.) and if you're filming inside there is no need of any filter (although the dead cat doesn't muffle the sound at all). The cable itself isn't bad, nothing too special. Has RODE branding on it, like everything else it came with. Hooking it up to my Canon 70D and using Automatic Level setting, I've noticed how crisp and clean the sound is, yet picks up a wide range of frequencies. Since this is a shotgun microphone, it picks up only what's in front of it and ignores what's around and behind it. I've seen and used expensive Sennheiser microphones, especially their shotgun options, and the price difference between these two is huge, yet the picking up sound direction isn't much different. There is a slight hiss, but I've noticed the same hiss in RODE's most expensive DSLR microphones so I decided to let it pass. Using this and testing it out revealed that the only con is that there are no options. It's literally plug in and plug out. While on RODE's more expensive options there are functions like low cut filter, boost etc. Not to forget the shock mount on this thing! It works wonders! I thought it was gonna be another really bad, plastic useless shock mount which is more for looks than for functions, but this thing really works! Still being happy due to sound quality I was getting from this microphone, this shock mount just blew me away. I've tried running with this thing, spinning around, the shock mount absorbs it all. I've made a really neat video using the Rode VideoMicro and filmed some sound tests (and a thunderstorm!). If you're interested in exactly how it sounds, check it out. Thanks for reading!

I've recently been asked, very nicely, to do some unpaid video work by a "company" in exchange for brand exposure, I accepted since I don't really have much work in my video portfolio and this provided an opportunity for me to get my work out into a high traffic website. But based on the video they had in mind I require a form of stabilisation for my camera. My camera is an 80D with a Sigma 18-35mm lens as per my trusted setup, so my question is, what steadicam style stabiliser is cheap and relatively easy to learn to use. If I were to go for a standard Steadicam (as in ebay cheapo one), how many months or weeks of practice would it take on average to reach an acceptable skill level with it? The people want a flowing kind of shot, like a long showcase take. A tiny bit like this but no aerial or complex shots, just smooth continuous take, in and out of buildings and similar. Oh and I'm taking a holiday later on in the year to New Zealand for skiing. How much less battery will I get from my camera battery pack up a mountain at around 2-5 degrees celcius? And any acclimation tips for lenses and cameras which run minimal risk of damage? Many thanks in advance

Where I'm coming from.... I am looking to be able to record smoother videos, and take better pictures. I need to do this more so for work to take pictures of inventory (and a few videos of items as well), to post on our website or advertisements. They don't really have to be 4k super ultra amazing, but I don't want them to look like they are coming from a VHS Camcorder either! I have a Samsung note 8 (until the Pixel 3 XL release!) and have considered getting a gimbal to help smooth things over. Secondly, while I love the ability to whip out the phone and take a few quick photos I would really like to have a grown up camera where I can take quality photos. So I have been considering getting a camera for some time now. It would be mainly for taking pictures of the kids, maybe a few nature shots as we go on hikes.. And if it is a higher quality, maybe record some events as well. Where I'm heading...? So, I was thinking of getting a solid digital camera. But with considering video, i like the idea of image stabilization. Is this obtainable with out dropping $1,000 + ? Any suggestions / recommendations / information is welcome! Thanks

So I currently own a nikon d3300, its been an amazing camera for me however I need to upgrade. I have some great pricing on nikons available to me while canons I get for normal pricing. The main cameras ive been looking at are the following Nikon: D7500, D610, D750, Canon: 80D, 6D mark 1 I will be using these for mostly photos (90-95% of the time) While doing occasional video. I like the really quick turn on time with my current nikon and would like to keep that, I also would like to get one with a flexible screen for more difficult shots but id rather get something better without flexible screen than the other way around. Not sure what else to add. But I appreciate any advice/questions etc.

Does anyone here know of a good camera bag that can hold a 13in laptop? I have one DLSR, 2 lenses (one can be on the camera), and a 13in MacBook Pro. I will be traveling a lot soon and haven't found many good options.

So im looking into selling my DSLR to upgrade to a new one and a friend of mine stated that his sister was looking to buy one so he asked how much I wanted for mine. He knows I take good care of my electronics so he trusts me and the cameras condition. The camera itself is in great condition, never dropped, nicked, or damaged. The worst part is that some of the matte finish has rubbed off so its more "shiny". Almost always kept in a bag when not in use, camera screen always has had a screen protector. Lenses have always had UV filters for protection and always kept with caps on. As for accessories I have pretty much everything. Camera, Stock Lens (Nikon DX VR 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 G2) and a Nikon DX (55-200mm 1: 4-5.6G ED), Both Lenses have UV Filter (for protection) 2 Batteries (original and one from bestbuy) Original Charger, Cables, Documents, and Box. Wireless WiFi Module Basic Camera Bag USB 3.0 Memory Card Reader 16GB Sandisk Extreme Basic Lens Cleaner Tool. Basic tripod What do you guys think is a fair price? Ebay Sold Posts show ~300-450$ (varies alot on accessories)

Hey guys you probably got the idea thanks to the ridiculously long title of this forum post. I am looking into going into photography and still would like a decent camera that can put out 1080p60 when I need to record, not to mention the ability to use my Elgato camlink whenever I stream. And have some decent accessories like additional lenses and or a decent tripod. I shop on three sites Best Buy, Newegg, and Amazon. I'd prefer shopping through those retailers as much as possible. My budget runs around $1,500 U.S. but just going a couple dollars over the amount isn't going to bother me. I'm currently using skillshare to learn about photography as I'd like to have something to do as a hobby. And PS; times I plan to shoot are early mornings when the Sun is beginning to rise which is a low-light situation and midday. Thankyou!

So, I just got a Canon EOS Rebel T4i. I wanted to get EOS Utility so I can install Technicolor Cinestyle on the camera, but when I went to the EOS Utility download page, all that showed up for the T4i under the Drivers and Downloads page was Digital Photo Professional, Picture Style Editor, and EOS Utility UPDATER. Am I on the wrong page? Does one of these other programs come with EOS Utility? Or did Canon for whatever reason discontinue EOS Utility for my camera? Thanks!

I was walking on the street and i fell with my nikon d600 and 35-80mm lens and hit the ground. After that the zoom and focus wheel turns very hard and the camera cannot autofocus because it needs extra force to do so.The glass of the lens by itself does not have a single scratch on it. Any suggestions what can i do to make my lens work properly again because that is my only lens and i can't afford another one?
-
Ok so im sure this question has probably been asked many times, but i cant seem to figure out what camera i should get. I am going to be vlogging with it and doing some photography of both still and moving cars. The vlogging/video quality is most important to me and i will probably be using an external mic such as the rode mic so built in audio isnt a huge concern. I dont particularly care about 4k currently though it is something id like to have. So far i am kind of leaning towards the PANASONIC LUMIX G7, nikon d5200, Sony a6000, and the canon g7x mark 2. Id like to keep it around $600 with lens or point and shoot but if it is nikon i can do a body only sense i already have a couple af-s lens i could use with whatever body hence my consideration for the d5200 (about $300 used). If there are any other cameras you guys would recommend id love to hear it or just which of the aforementioned ones would be helpful too. Thanks so much.

Is there anyone who knows.....How can I use my DSLR as a webcam for skype on windows.

Alright, I'll have to admit that maybe I was a bit cheap and purchased third party batteries for my camera body. I now have several questions about the batteries and my minor concerns. Firstly, is it detrimental to the health to the battery if I charge it even though it is 75% full? Thats because that battery is my only LP-E6N battery I have with the other two being LP-E6 variants. Since I have quite the event to photograph tomorrow, I don't really want to rely on a 3/4 full primary battery as the other two are jokes. Also, are LP-E6 batteries really compatible with the newer generation EOS 80Ds? I've read many forums where people have said that they are but personally the batteries dont even last close to half as long as the N variants. I managed to get 350 images with a (third party) LP-E6, however I am up to 600 with the (genuine) LP-E6N and as mentioned earlier, I've managed to carve through only 25% leaving 75% battery capacity. It seems that other prople have had quite positive experiences with thrid party LP-E6 batteries so I'm trying to determine if the battery or body is at fault. (I used an optically stabilised lens with the LP-E6N, but I used a non IS lens with the third party to try to get them to last)

Hi all, does anyone here here use their canon 700d to live stream with?? I’ve got everything set up fine but I’m struggling to get the live view to stay on for longer than 30 minutes which is how I capture the video feed from the camera. Really need some advice on how to get this to work, I’ve tried magic lantern but for some reason their sticky halfshutter function isn’t available on the 700d which would have solved all my problems! ive also looked in to writing an LUA script for magic lantern that tells it to Half press the shutter every 20 minutes as this would keep the live view active, but I suck at coding and I can’t get it to work any help or suggestions would be great!

Myself and my son are venturing into the big bad world of content creation, we have a rough idea of how we want our channel to be, and where we are going, but were not sure how to get there, that aside, one of my biggest issues currently is recording quality, i'm currently using a Nikon L840 Bridge Camera that i gave to my wife as a present, the quality is "ok" but doesn't seem as clean and clear as i would like, i realise you can post edit some cleanliness into it, but I would like to minimize editing time by having the quality there already. How much realistically do i need to spend on a better than "ok" camera.. I really have no clue nor experience with cameras, i just know i need something better.
