Sony Releases the new A7 R Mk III to rival Canon's 5D

Sony's Third iteration of its A7R lineup just hit the market this morning, bringing with it a ton of features carried over from the recent A9. Along with the many other feature upgrades, Sony has also incorporated a USB C connector to help speed up offloading of files and photos and also for charging. Sony has also been able to cram 2 SD card slots into the tiny Mirrorless body of its latest A7R. Another long awaited feature is the inclusion of the Hybrid Log Gamma HDR Standard and S-Log 3 support. The A7R III is a very well positioned and priced camera, starting at the exact same price that the mark 2 started at while doubling the resolution of the A9 and including some extra goodies. My girlfriend was talking about a DSLR in passing and how much she wants to get back into photography. I don't know much about photography besides high school photography class so any advice could help. She said she wants a DSLR or something along those lines and wants to just get into amateur photography. Just looking around I saw that the Canon EOS M6 was a good light weight camera with lens options and quality photo and video capture. Would anyone have a better suggestion or comment on something that could be a starter for her. The most I'm looking to spend is about 1,000 USD tax and add-ons can be more as I am flexible. -
Hello Linus Tech Tips Community & how's everybody doing! So, I have my DSLR camera and a Rode Stereo Mic. I lower the internal DSLR mic gain to between 35-50%, and then I set the Rode Stereo Mic to +20db. That gives me clean, clear, noise-free audio, excellent! My question is, is there a reliable, noise-free Bluetooth/Wireless receiver, which will allow me to plug it into my DSLR, then use my Rode Stereo Mic far away for instance with a Bluetooth/Wireless sender? I understand there are high quality solutions out there like the Sennheiser sets, but I'm not looking for a whole set, including mic, I'm just looking for the wireless capability. Thanks in advance!

Hello Tech dwellers!I would like help to get back my data on my SD card which is in use by my NIKON D3300 camera (good camera btw)ok.. let do try my best to explain you the situation hereBASICALLYi took ALOT of photos this summer using my camera , it has a LEXAR 16GB card which is quite enough for images under my usemy sister wanted to show my parents the awesome pictures later the summer, during this period i was very busy as i was getting my admission form to collage ; the parents were happy to see the amazing pictures...sad that was the last time someone ever saw those pictures unless i can get help here OK COOL... WHAT THE PROBLEM KIDDO?after getting free and all , i wanted to see those precious memories BUT....i couldn't... the images just disappeared...BUT not formatted nor deleted ...... how can i say this ?in the above photo the USB drive is the SD card on which the images are stored...upon opening itupon opening the folder ok before we go further in... whats that strange file thing?its quite heavy and im quite sure those are my photo gummed together like that monstrous chewing gum we made in our childhoodupon opening the photo folder these are some photos i took today ... but.. isnt it strange that these photos are under 800MB and are numbered as 001 002 ...meaning to the camera.. these are brand new photos....the 800MB doesnt equate to 15GB of the drive used , right?using the file viewer on my camera , my old summer pics still dont appear :ci think the massive file chewing gum thing is my photos.. even weirder is that :the right click > properties shows that its 0 bytes..what kind of logic is that?please help me -

Hey! I currently have a Sony SLT-A37, which i bought a couple of years back. It is a pretty decent camera for a beginner at photography, but I really want to upgrade now. Many people tell me to go for the Nikon D5XXX series. Could you suggest some good camera for a budget price? And what about Canon?

I need help figuring out how to hook up my DSLR (Canon Rebel SL1/100D) to my PC for live monitoring, using it as an OBS input for twitch streaming, and shooting photos and video straight to my PC from the camera as well if possible. I tried using the Canon EOS Utility software which supposedly could handle some of that, but it doesn't seem to work at all (when I launch it, the only option is to connect a camera over wifi, which my camera can't do). So I have very little idea where to start on this and how feasible it will be. Do I use the USB connector or the mini HDMI? What software should I use? Do I need special hardware like a capture card or something (hope not because I'm broke)? Thanks. -

Hi EveryoneI have owned the Canon T6 for about a month now and have been using it heavily for my Youtube channel. I feel that when shooting video it looks very soft compared to other channels even comparing raw footage to posted videos. I compiled some clips from a boat parade and would like to know what you think I could do to improve the quality of the video. All of these clips were filmed with an iso 100, shutter speed between 200 and 400 and with the 18 to 55mm lens, f/5.6. The shot of the draw bridge is out of focus I find that it hard to tell if a shot is in focus with the small screen, I am using manual focus for all these shots. In this video I think I got the quality a little better as I was shooting with f/9, shutter 1/60 and iso 1600. I guess I will need to get some lights to get it a little brighter Also all of the other videos after the camera unboxing are filmed with the T6 if you want a better idea of what I am able to do with closer focus. Just one thing about this post, please don't tell me to buy another camera as I don't have the money to get another one, I want to get the most with what I got. Let me know what you think I could do to get better quality. Thanks -
So recently I purchased a Nikon 3400 at my local BestBuy and I've been loving it so far. The only downfall is that it lacks a microphone input on the camera body. My question is, how would I go about incorporating an external recorder to my rig without having the damn thing just dangling around. In the next week or so I plan to buy a cage and want to mount the audio recorder via 1/4" so that its close and well held. I realize I could quite honestly just use some tape or some ghetto crap, but that's just not my style. Anyone got any clues? I was figuring maybe there are some recorders that have thread adapters built into them, otherwise perhaps just getting some kinda 1/4" clamp thing if that exists. -
Hay all I got a Nikon 3200D a while ago as a gift and found myself using it more for video than still images, Lately i started considering to upgrade to something like the Cannon 70D, but with the price of that camera its a bit out of my reach. i was hoping you guys can recommend a good DSLR that's a bit cheaper

Hello, so I bought a nikon d3400 and I need an sd card and a few other things. It came with an 18-55mm and a 70-300mm lens with it. I found a sndisk 16gb Ultra sd card running at 48mb/s and also a sandisk 16gb extreme running at 90mb/s. The first is $12 (aus) and the second is $18 (aus). which one should I get. Also, what are some good bag/shoulder bags/cases tha twould fit this and the lenses and a few other accessories. Please leave suggestions??!?!?!?!?!?!

So my camera's actual resolution for images in the settings is 5184x3456, which is 16:10. However when I actually take the images and look at the resolutions, they're all brought down to 5184x2912, which is 16:9. How do I keep them in that original 16:10 aspect ratio? Should I even care about this?

I just got a new Canon Rebel SL1 for getting into more serious photography, with maybe a bit of video in there as well. I'm decently fluent camera-wise, but one thing I don't know much about are these image quality settings. I obviously don't want M or S as those are lower resolutions. However what is the difference between the two L's at the top and the 'raw' settings at the bottom, and what should I use?

Hello community, I have a DSLR camera but no bag for it. I purchased the camera and completely forgot about getting the accessories for it and now I need to go through and buy them. I will be carrying one body, one lens and a few lens extenders as well as a few lens add ons. Future purchases may include a small telephoto lens and battery grip for the camera. I will be doing a lot of walking and travelling as well as riding my bike but I can bring my compact camera for bike rides. I am on a super tight budget and I am located in Australia, it's ok if it's an eBay listing as I often purchase things off there. Do any of you have recommendations for a camera bag the fits my needs? Also another small question, can you also provide me, if you can, with a list or recommendations of some must have accessories for a DSLR. Many thanks in advance

Hi all! I have a question for all the people that are much smarter than me - if you have any knowledge that would be much appreciated! I have just ordered a new camera, and would like to start some amateur videography. I have a RODE NT-USB Microphone (which is significantly better than the built-in mic) which I would like to hook up with the new camera, however the camera has an audio-in 3.5mm jack, and my microphone I want to use has a USB plug. Can I buy a cheap & easy "USB to 3.5 Audio Jack" adaptor thingy and that'll work? Or will I need another microphone? Thanks in advance for any advice! - Lucas. P.S Sorry in advance if this subject is in the wrong area on the forum, this is a first time using this site haha!

Greetings people of LTT, I was wondering whether my Canon 1300D DSRL are capable of producing clean HDMI? I understands that it doesn't supports 720p60fps nor 1080p30fps but hey, atleast I can settle with 72030fps with a synchronized output. So, I kinda want to know whether is those findings I found is legit before I went out looking and purchasing hardwares (HDMI cable & dummy battery pack).

Hi everyone I wanted a intervalometer ,but I don’t have money ,so I after watching a few tutorials I found this app : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.dslrremote&showAllReviews=true http://bitshift.bplaced.net/en/dslr-remote.htm I found lying around in my house a 3.5mm cable to 2.5 mm. it works!!! but when I use the time-lapse it shots two pictures instead of one. The theory that I have: My cellphone outputs to much energy or signal .o for a longer period of time forcing the camara to shoot twice. I have a Moto G5 but I tried whit several older phones and it didn’t work. I think this is the solution: http://bitshift.bplaced.net/en/dslr-remote/hardware/cable-a---opto-couplers.htm but I don’t have any soldering knowledge and I don’t know if I can buy that in my city. If anyone knows how to solve this let me now. -

And it seems that the crowd-pleaser is the launch of the EOS-1DX Mark III, Canon's latest entry in the EOS 1-D line of flagship professional-oriented sports camera, aimed at photojournalists, sports and wildlife photographers. EOS-1DX Mark III There are some other big launches as well, notably Nikon's new D780 DSLR, an update to the brilliant-but-aging D750. Nikon D780 Aside from all the big guns, there were some other small announcements, which include but are not limited to; The unveiling of a physical Nikon D6 body but without any other information aside from that. The Nikon Coolpix P950 ultrasuperzoom bridge camera, now with 4K recording, an improved EVF and support for RAW files. The Nikkor Z 70-200 f/2.8S lens launch for $2600 and shipping in February alongside a Nikkor 120-300 F-Mount lens for $9500.
