  1. ===========================================WIP======================================================================================= For this build I wanted to make a Pentium II System that would be in a newer looking case while keeping the retro look, here are some pics of it WIP ===========================================Finished Product============================================================================= The build is complete but the video took forever!
  2. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zxXG6h how do you guys like my build. NOTE: I WILL BE SWITCHING TO 2 AMD R9 290x SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X EDITION (489$ each NEWEGG) will add pix later
  3. Hey guys I wanted to know if this will bottleneck, i'm not an expert on this things so all feedback is welcome! Specs: CASE : Enermax iVektor Black Mid Tower Computer Case GPU : 8GB MSI Radeon R9 290X AMD GDDR5 CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 Haswell 3.20GHz RAM : 8GB Corsair Vengeance Jet Black DDR3 PC1600 MOBO : Asus Z97-P Intel Z97 S1150/DDR3/PCIe3.0 SATA Motherboard PSU : 600W Corsair Builder CX Series 80 PLUS Bronze ATX Power Supply STORAGE : 1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue 3.5" 7200rpm SATA3 Hard Drive OS : Microsoft Windows 8.1 Standard OEM (64 bit)
  4. Hey guys I was wondering how much FPS on games like Battlefied 4 , Far Cry 4 , ETC I would get on this rig, ALL FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED!! CPU: AMD FX 8350 MOBO: Asrock Mobo RAM: Crucial 8GB DDR3 Ram STORAGE: Seagate 1TB HDD STORAGE: Crucial MX100 SSD 128GB GPU: Nvidia GTX 960 2GB Overclocked PSU: NOX 750 W PSU CASE: NZXT Phantom 410(White)
  5. I want a decent build mainly for gaming/ Photoshop Lightroom/ streaming. I need good temps and low noise. Thanks for the help This is my second build. CPU — i7-5820k CPU Cooler — Corsair H110i GT RAM — 32GB G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4-2444 GPU — Asus GeForce GTX 980 ROG Matrix or EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Classified Motherboard — Asus V RAMPAGE EXTREME Storage — WD 2TB and Samsung 120GB SSD (Boot and games) Case — Phanteks Enthoo Luxe (Black) Extra fans — (5) Corsair AF140 Quiet Edition Monitor — Asus ROG Swift I will be doing dual sli in the future, and I am replacing the fans on the radiator. This build is all about aesthetics. I will start the build in April/ May. What do you guys think about the build? Should I change anything? Feel free to share your opinion below
  6. [COMPLETED PIX] --> Final thoughts: -Corsair Link sucks, and is not worth it. -Cablemod set #1 arrived with the main 24-Pin cable broken -Painted H100i rad successfully. -Ribbon cables suck. PART 1: So I decided I should post the build log for my newest (and third ever) full PC build so the LTT community can either crucify what I did, or tell me I don't suck at PC building, we'll see! I'd been asking questions 'round the forum for the past month or so, double and triple checking to make sure everything I'd wanted to throw in this build work play nice together. To any of you that have helped me along the way over the past few months by sharing your experiences with similar components THANK YOU. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- NAMING THIS BUILD: Like the title says, I need a name for this build. This isn't my first build, but it is the first one that I thought deserves a name. I'm not into cheesy stuff like ARCTIC TIGER FREEZE EXTREME, but would prefer something more subtle. Obviously something to do with the color scheme, Black & White, or being cold. I've been toying around with AVEN, like RAVEN without the R, not sure why really, it's just a name that's been stuck in my head for a while. Also something like "Frost" would be cool I guess. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Initial Parts List: MOBO - Asus X99-Pro Initially very skeptical because of its Newegg reviews, and many horror stories of RMAs on X99 boards thus-far. Hoping since X99 is now 5 months matured, I'll be okay. CPU - Intel i7-5820k Was given a free "upgrade plan" at MicroCenter, which basically means if I want to upgrade my CPU to the 5930k or 5960X any time within the next two years, I return the 5820k and pay the difference between the two. Cooling - Corsair H100i w/ 4x SP120 PWM High Perf. in Push/Pull Is push/pull necessary? No. Can I do it because I have SP120's lying around? Hell yes. I had it in my old 650D build, so going from having it to not having it wouldn't feel right. Will the Dominator heat-sinks interfere? Stick around to find out. RAM - 16GB Dominator Platinum DDR4 @ 2666 MHz - w/ 2x Dominator Light-Bar Kit I chose Dominator because I'd been saving up for this build for a damn long time, and I wanted it to look nice. (Isn't aesthetics the only damn reason anyone buys this RAM?) Even though DDR4 is expected to mature to like 4000MHz, I'm okay at 2666, the exponential price increase to a 3000k kit was insane. GPU - EVGA GTX 760 4GB This will be my bottleneck in gaming, I understand that. I have plans to go to a 980, but am waiting to sell my old components, and for AMD's 300 series to be released to see if that has any impact on NVIDIA card pricing. PSU - Seasonic SS-X750 (80+ Gold, Fully Modular) - w/ CableMod Single Braid SE-Series Cable Set (white) This is the PSU I was using with my old build. It's been great to me Case - Fractal Design Define R5 Not much to say here, it's amazing. Storage - 1x Samsung 840 Evo 120 GB SSD (Boot Drive) - 1x HGST Deskstar NAS 4TB (Internal Backup) - 2x WD Black 1TB (Audio Drive and Gaming Drive) When the tech matures, and the price comes down, I plan to go to M.2 for the system drive, mount two 2.5" drives Case Fans - 4x NF-A14 iPPC 2000 (3x front intake, 1x rear exhaust) - Corner brown rubber anti-vibration pieces to be painted white. Other - 1x Corsair Commander Mini - So all fans and maybe some temp sensors, H100i, can be controlled via. Software. - 1x Asus Thunderbolt EXII Card- To give me thunderbolt or FW i/o for the frequent external drives I use. - Rubber Anti-vibration Gaskets and grommets for all fans (space permitting) **PSU and Internal Drives (other than HGST) not pictured, as they're in the previous build currently in the R5. Part II Update coming next!
  7. Processor --- Intel Core I7-4790K 4.0GHz Motherboard --- MSI Z97 GAMING 3 RAM memory --- Kingston HyperX Fury White 16GB Kit 2x8GB DDR3 1600 MHz GPU --- Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 OC 4GB DDR5 256Bit To power up my machine I want to use the --- Sirtec Astro GD-1200F 1200W 80 PLUS Gold; I will also have the --- Segotep SG-XT NF PC case. And I will just be adding the --- HDD WD Black 1TB SATA3 64MB 7200RPM and also looking to buy a SSD 128gb. My question are: Will this work well together, will it fit well, will it be good in 2-3 years? Please feel free to share and let me know if I should chose something better/different? Thanks for your help in advance.
  8. Warning: TL;DR at the end. Hi guys! First of all I want to tank everyone for helping me these weeks with my component selection for my next build. After a lot of work and almost burning my brain to ashes I have come across the next 3 possible builds, all of them are around 1500-1600 dollars. I will give a brief preambule of each build and ask for your opinion in which would be the best one. Note: This is only the Core PC, other things such as HDD, fans, keyboard, monitor, etc I will add later. So let's get started! First of all the propuse of my PC is JUST GAMING, pure gaming, nothing more than gaming, I'm a frecuent player of games like WoW and LoL (my favorites in the world) BUT I'm planning on leaving my console rutine and start playing serious graphic demanding PC games. I like Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Batman, and intend on playing games like Tom Raider and Shadow of Mordor. About the monitor, my intention is to buy a 4K one with Free-Sync or G-Sync, whichever is cheaper (so take that into account when looking at the GPU's), I have always had a standard 1680x1050 21" Samsung monitor so I don't know what things like 144hz, IPS panels, etc feel like, I'm blinded on that side (you know, like Blind Side, blinded on a side, get it? ok ... ) Oh! Another thing I want for my PC is to be enthusiast grade, you know, like powerful components and gaming finishes, etc. First of all, things that all builds share: PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 1000W PSU 80+ gold.- Ok so this might look like a little bit overkill in 2 of the builds but the reasons I went with this is because it only costs 140 dollars and is jonnyGURU certified, which makes it a great deal, I have heard from you a lot of good things about EVGA PSU's, so this seems a good choice, also I want growing room to do 2-way SLI and with the 10 year warranty, it will last through several system upgrades. CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H100i GTX.- The previous H100i has gotten tons of good reviews and thumbs up from all the PC enthusiast comunity around the world, so its succesor, the GTX version makes a lot of sense to me, still have to wait for serious reviews about the cuality and shipping conditions of the unit but I already have my eye on it. Also I'm not going with the H110i GT Because I don't know if it will fit my case (I have a brand new Corsair C70) also, it is out of the market and a lot more expensive, I wanted to keep this build under 1600 dollars. Storage: Samsung 850 EVO Series 250gb.- This SSD has speed and great performance on its side and it is not THAT expensive, for 115 dollars this makes a lot of sense to me and promises to keep my PC fed with storage for the first 1 or 2 months. I'm not adding a HDD now becuase of the 1600 budget limit I self-imposed. Now for each Build! Intel z97 gtx980 - 1,595 dollars http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KPbzsY This z97 build focuses on powerful gaming, the i7 4790k promises to keep competitive in gaming for the next few generations and overclocks like mad (as far as I have read). i5 is not an option for me, though it will be perfect for today, it won't last for tomorrow, saving 100 dollars is not worth having to change processor in the next 2 years... The MOBO is overkill, absolutely, but it is ASUS, it is ROG and it is pretty, nuff said, also the great sound and overclocking features make it worth the 210 dollar premium price (In my humble opinion). The RAM... well it is RAM and it is cheap, end of the story. 16gb is also future proveness and stays within my budget. Now the most important part, the GPU.- well, as far as Nvidia Single GPU Cards, it doesn't get much better than this, This baby will run every game I can hope for and if in the future it stops being enough I can just throw another one in and... What dooes Linus says? Call it a day? I think so... Intel z97 r9 295x2 - 1,670 dollars http://pcpartpicker.com/p/v6czsY Exact same build as the previous one, z97-i7 based. But the big difference here: GPU: AMD Radeon r9 295x2.-As far as reviews, benchmarks and specs tell, this is the most powerful gaming video card on the market. I just freaking love it and the best part: it only costs 630 dollars on newegg!! Price is only 15% higher than the 980 but it will absolutely destroy it in any games that scale with SLI. The thing I like most about this GPU is how exotic it is, a truly enthusiast grade product. What do you think guys? Should I go full overkill and get a beautiful and powerful card just for the sake of PC enthusiast gaming? Intel x99 gtx 970 - 1,542 dollars http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FzmpJx Now things change quite a bit. This build features the brand new x99 Intel platform. I went with the i7 5820k because it is all you can get for less than 400 dollars on this platform. The reasoning behind this is pure future proveness, a 6core-12thread CPU promises to stay within the game for at least 5years (which is the period of time I intend this build to last without any strong modifications or upgrades), It overclocks well as the reviews say but the horrible downside is that it only features 28 pci-e lanes, so no dual x16 SLI or CrossFire. The motherboard is the least expensive x99 from Asus (I'm only choosing ASUS MOBO's because I'm married with the new BIOS). RAM is still RAM even though it is DDR4 so 16gb will be enough for now. And now the GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970.- All the budget when to the CPU upgrade so little was left for the graphics card (which doesn't make a lot of sense since a gaming PC should take focus on the GPU). But still, the 970 offers great performance for its price and even after the whole wrong specification thing from Nvidia it is still a great card for a great price, also 2 of them in the future promise several FPS increase in games... yes? YES?!?! So that is all folks, I will stop writing before you get tired and close this tab. Thanks for reading and helping! Remember the whole thing about this post is which PC project you like more and why! TL;DR: Build 1:http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KPbzsY Build 2:http://pcpartpicker.com/p/v6czsY Build 3:http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FzmpJx Which one you like most and why? Thanks! P.S. 9. Hey guys, this is my build log of Chrysos, the Ultimate Gaming PC. This was a gold/copper colored theme PC. The build (of which I already have some of the parts, and getting others for a reduced price) will cost about $1340.38 USD retail. But I am getting all of these parts for about $1100 USD. Some backstory: I was already thinking about selling my computer for another one, and as I was taking Pictures on Ebay, and I figured out Digital Storm (The retailer that custom built my PC, had hot glued some of the parts in, this included the Molex connectors and the SATA power and data cables for my main HDD. I attempted to do a really risky move and pull the SATA cables out to get verification photos of the hard drive. I slowly peeled off the hot glue and pulled out the SATA cable out. As I pulled it out I heard a little pop, I was kinda concerned but didn't think much of it. I took the photos and plugged the cable back in. It would not go back in however. I looked at the hard drive receiver and what I found was horrible. The pins of the hard dive were all bent in unrecoverable positions and the plastic piece that supports them, was shattered (for some unimaginable reason). Now, I could have just bought a new HDD and OS, but my computer was suffering and slow, so I started selling them. Steps are ordered in highest priority and will be updated with the build: Step 1: Choose parts and get money for Build by selling old PC parts on Ebay Here is the parts list: PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rr7wFT Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rr7wFT/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Micro Center) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120V 86.2 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($29.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: Asus Z87-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($79.99 @ Newegg) Memory: Kingston Beast 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($127.27 @ TigerDirect) Storage: Western Digital WD Green 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($77.90 @ Directron) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Video Card ($409.99 @ Amazon) Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case ($99.99 @ Amazon) Power Supply: Corsair Professional 1000W 80+ Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($87.75 @ OutletPC) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series SP120 Quiet Edition (2-Pack) 37.9 CFM 120mm Fans ($27.98 @ OutletPC) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition 67.8 CFM 140mm Fan ($22.98 @ Directron) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition 67.8 CFM 140mm Fan ($22.98 @ Directron) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition 67.8 CFM 140mm Fan ($22.98 @ Directron) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition 67.8 CFM 140mm Fan ($22.98 @ Directron) Total: $1232.77 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-03-01 11:13 EST-0500 Thanks! 10. Frankly, I don't know if this should go in this section or in New Builds and Planning, but if need be, I am happy to have the moderators move this topic. Nodes - A Concept (more like an idea) I'm going to start this by saying I am probably not the person that is going to execute this build. Frankly, I do not have the funds or time to do this. If people like this idea, I would welcome sponsors and will try to find time to do this. I am giving permission to anybody on this forum to give this build a shot, if they feel like it. If you do decide to build this, then I would appreciate if you gave me credit for the design. I also want to apologize for my terrible drawing skills and my lack of scale. The fans might be completely incorrect in size. I also didn’t have a compass handy, so I couldn’t draw circles. Ok, let’s get started. This build is basically a computer (super small) with an external radiator box, which carries the pumps, fan controller, radiators and power supply. The only cables running between the rad-box and the PC are the 6 quick disconnect tubes and the 48 pin + SATA + Molex power thing I came up with (it is a 24 pin + two 8 pin PCI + 8 pin CPU). The rad box carries 1 560mm rad, 60mm thick, for the CPU + MB on one loop. I know it’s overkill. There will also be two 280mm (60mm) thick rads for the GPUs on another. Water will go into one GPU, then into a 280mm then into the other GPU and then into another 280 before repeating the cycle. This means there is no “daisy chaining” of GPUs. I plan to run the fans at the lowest speed possible for quietness, hence the huge rads. I also plan to use a mITX board with a server-grade PCIe 16x to dual 8x splitter. Then I would use 2 riser cables to go to the GPUs. This will make more sense in the photos drawings below. The possible use applications for this would be: - LAN Parties - Desk use (rad box under desk) - HTPC (with only one rad, one gpu and a weaker cpu) - Showing off Possible specs: CPU - 4790k Ram - High speed DDR3 (Dominator, etc) SSD - 850 Pro ? Mobo - Maximus VII Impact GPUs - 2x GTX 980 (Asus Strix, MSI) PSU - Silverstone Strider S, Corsair Water cooling stuff: Alphacool NexXxos 280mm (x2) Alphacool NexXxos 560mm Some strong, variable pump (x3) (maybe a D5?) 11. Preface I first got into building PCs about 4 years ago. In my time, I have learned that building is not only fun and enjoyable, but a culture. So I like to think that my personal build has grown with me over the last several years since I started building and maintaining a PC. I've developed a bond with it and treat it like it's human. It's been through my good times and my worst times. It has especially been special to me while I was going through the hardest time in my life, the death of my mother in July of 2013. So I have named my build in honor of my mother. So we call her, Sherry. I do not have many pictures of Sherry before my current watercooling set up. I was not that into posting of forums even though I am always lurking here and on reddit. I seem to do more dreaming and visualizing about my PC then actual building. But the way I see it, you need to think...think...think again.....and then think even more before actually making any large purchases. Quick Personal Background I'm NiftyMist (obviously). I'm a 22 year old college student (currently in my junior year) majoring in Information Technology with a specialty in Networking and Cybersecurity. I have a passion for technology, building PCs, and gaming. Final little tid-bit, I'm engaged. Our wedding date is set for September 4th, 2016 which is after we are both finished with our undergraduate studies. The Build Core Specs: MOBO: Asus Maximus V Gene (Z77) CPU: Intel i7 3770k (Socket 1155) GPU: EVGA 780 Ti SuperClocked RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x8 kit (16GB) @ 1600MHz PSU: Corsair AX 850 These parts were all bought one at a time to slowly upgrade my build from its original form. I can't even remember the specs of the original PC. Recently I moved on to watercooling Sherry. It is something I wanted to do ever since I first got into PCs but never had the money to make it happen. Frankly, I was a little afraid to watercool because I have worked so hard in order to acquire these parts, so I was reluctant to attempt watercooling in the first place. I did, however, research for the last 2 years about watercooling so I would know what I was getting into if I ever had the extra money. Then this year, I got way more back on my tax returns than I was anticipating, so I decided now was the right time for me to go watercooling. Watercooling Parts: CPU Block: Phobya UC-2 (Clear) GPU Block: EK-FC780 GTX Ti with Backplate Radiators: AlphaCool NexXxos UT60 240 (Front) and AlphaCool NexXxos ST30 240 (Top) Pump: Swiftech MCP655 Reservoir: Swiftech MCRES MICRO V2 Tubing: PrimoChill Advanced LRT (Clear) 3x8 ID / 5x8 OD Fittings: XSPC Chrome Compression Fittings and Phobya Black Nickle 90 Degree Compression Fittings Coolant: Disstilled Water with Mayhem UV Clear Blue Dye This was my first attempt at a drain port. It has served me well the 3 times I have had to drain the loop so far. But I have trouble getting all of the water out of the front radiator. As far as cable management goes, I think I have vastly improved my ability to manage cables over the last 4 years. But this is one area that always has room for improvement, and its free. Storage: Boot Drive: Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB Mass Storage: WesternDigital Green 1TB Miscellaneous: Fans: Noctua NF-F12 x5 Fan Controller: NZXT Grid+ Lighting: UV Cold Cathode Overclocking: CPU: 4.0 GHz at 1.2v. Temps under load are 61C on the Core and 82C on the CPU Package according the Open Hardware Monitor. I feel like those temps are rather high for 4.0 GHz. I'm pretty sure my CPU block is not performing very well because I was able to run the same overclock with an H100i with lower temps. I used Asus Real Bench for stress testing the CPU. I've reapplied TIM and I did not get any better results. GPU: 1155 MHz Core Clock. 1975 MHz Memory Bus Clock. All while staying at under 50C in 3DMark. Thank you for reading this far and checking out my build! ~NiftyMist Update 1: So I have moved to a new apartment with my fiance. Thus my battlestation has changed slightly. As far as Sherry goes, I've taken out the WD 1TB in the 5.25 inch bay in favor of a BluRay Reader/DVD Reader/CD Reader. I have also deployed a FreeNAS box for all my data storage. Here are a few pictures of the new setup for now! Better picture of Sherry's UV lighting! And a bonus picture of my FreeNAS configuration. Specs can be included if request, but this thread is really about Sherry.
  12. So last year i said to my self, i wanted to spend a unconventional amount of money on a pc that i could have only dreamed off a matter of years ago, i had the time and money and i said what the hell. I began by looking at my old system (i5 3450, 8Gb Ram, GTX 650) and seeing what i wanted to use from it i eventually decided to keep nothing except the HDD. The first component i bought was a 4790k around launch time. i coudn't find the motherboard i wanted and put the project on hold for a good 2 months. The CPU Gathered Dust and Became a piece of furnature, around this time i was going to list it one ebay when the perfect motherboard showed up (MSI GAMING 5) People on the forum at the time said to me "Why this motherboard" and the simple answer is its easy to paint black. so i bought the motherboard, case, GPU and all the other Components i needed to finally put my dream machine togeather, Here are the pictures. 1.
  13. Hello, Thank you for checking out my post. I have watched a ton of LinusTechTips youtube channel and I thought this would be the best place to get feedback. Here is my desired build based on my budget. (Budget meaning I wouldn't want to go any lower than these specs but I can't really go higher in cost) I welcome all feedback as this is my very first computer build. I will be using it ONLY for playing games. Here is the link to my build on PCPartPicker.com (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZzrkmG) If you know of a lower price or something that I could get cheaper that works just as good, please let me know. Thank you! Zach
  14. This is a mini itx case I am designing to build. It is a very rough cut of what I think I want it to look like. Let me know what you guys and gals think. Reminder this was free hand no measurments have been taken. I have always wanted to make my own case.
  15. Hello there! I'm rather new into the case modding world but I feel I've been progressing quickly. I've always been very interested in computers and as many others, more interested in the hardware and how a computer works more than the games that you can play. I decided to make my own case mod, at first I did not have a name for it so it went under a build name called Project Blue Dream 2.0, but as the build progressed I started getting clearer visions of how I want the PC to look like when I was done. The name that I decided on was Project Chernobyl, I'll tell you more about how I thought of the name later in the build log. Well, Who am I? My name is August Lindgren and I'm a soon to be 17 year old student, on my spare time I do quite a variety of things, I like to ride snowmobiles, dirtbikes, workout, play on my PC but mostly, build PCs. I started this project because I really wanted to achieve something, something good! I apologize in advance for the image quality during the build but I assure you there will be better photos for my later builds! now that you know who I am, let's get started with the build log! The current specifications in the system are: CPU - AMD fx-8320 ( 20x * 220Mhz @ 1.365V = 4.4GHz) MOBO - Sabertooth 990fx R 2.0 RAM - Kingston HyperX 16GB 1600MHz GPU - R9 270x Vapor-x GPU2 - R9 270x Vapor-x PSU - Corsair HX 1000i HDD - 1x WD green 1tb SSD - Kingston v300 128 GB SPU - Xonar Phoebus Solo here are some pictures of what the computer used to look like before I got started. And here is my first vision of what I wanted the build to look like. These renders were created in Google Sketchup 2015 and rendered in Visualizer. So I got to work! List of things to be done Strip the case of all its panels and hardware Get the fanrings painted yellow Paint the front bezel yellow remove heatsinks from RAM and Motherboard for respraying I started prying of the heatsinks from the RAM sticks for repainting. This is the front bezel, fan rings and the ram sticks painted. I also painted the motherboard heatsink but I forgot to take a proper photo of it. Massive pile of hardware here these are the new fans that will be going into the system, also with yellow painted fan rings instead of the dull blue ones. at first I thought this was just going to be a small little project but it ended up being so much more than just that. as the project went on I got more and more ideas for it and started over again, and again, and again.. here are some pictures from after the first mod was done. doing some test fitting. First update! I consider my first goals with this mod to be complete but I want to do a lot more. I've just finished ordering a custom loop so I'm very excited about getting started. to be honest I ordered quite a bit of stuff.. Here's a list! EK-Coolstream PE 360 EK-CSQ 10/16mm G 1/4 Black EK-Supreme LTX AMD Acetal CSQ Laing DDC 12v XSPC Reservoir Primochill LRT Crystal clear 10/16 Feser one UV Yellow Phobya UV Flexlight Phobya TwinLED UV Phobya Y cable 3 pin to 4x 3 pin Alphacool universal pump mount A third Acer G246hl 24" 1080p AX 4200 Triple Monitor Stand A1 Saga XXL Mousepad I recieved some surprise income and decided to purchase all the things I've been wanting to get. as most of my friends know I'm rather of an OCD case when it comes to cable management, I'm extremely particulour about how I want my cables to sit and look like, so redoing my actual setup is started to happen on a regular basis. more mods on the way! Going to go buy some acrylic sheets that will act as both a PSU cover, Midplate and some GPU backplates. Second update! All the acrylic is purchased and is sitting next to me, I also bought some primer and a few cans of black color. as always, there are some cardboard models of how the acrylic will sit.. Because why not, right? I measured out the acrylic and cut them to size, also got started on bending the sheet for the PSU cover. I was walking around the house when I noticed an old external 2.5" drive, so I dismantled it and made a little SSD case for it! Here are the acrylic sheets all done and painted. Doing some test fits before fastening them properly Third Update! Unfortunately there has been some delays regarding the custom loop, I'm sorry to have kept you guys waiting! Here are some pictures of the first layout. Good news! no leaks, woohoo. I found it extremely hard to actually bleed the loop with the tiny reservoir mounted in the bottom so for the bleeding part I placed it ontop of the case instead, found that was much easier! I must say I am a bit disapointed on the fluid, but really depends on the lighting and from which direction you're looking at it. I managed to get some pretty good shots of the loop while bleeding. Here's a picture of the tiny reservoir I was talking about. here is a perfect example of what I meant with the fluid switching colors! it looks a lot more green in some places. So I ordered some sleeving guys! I really thought the blue cables would suit better in the build but they appeared not to. I ordered some yellow, black and gray sleeving, Which I found suits the build a lot better. there's happen a few things now actually, I've done quite a lot of things. Sleeved all the cables. Mounted "Biohazard" fangrills, more coming soon! Got the text "Chernobyl" printed on the side of the PSU cover and on the front panel. Metal Biohazard logo on the front panel and also got some white E22 decals on the fans, I really don't like the look of the corsair logos on the fans and especially not when they are spinning as they are not centered.. Pictures under the sleeving process! Jesus it makes your fingers hurt. First wire done! I actually ended up redoing the sata cables as I didn't like the look of all yellow. I couldn't post the final pictures directly because I felt that I had to get a better camera for it as my one really isn't doing this build justice. And here we go! I called my cousin who works with photography and she was able to bring her Canon EOS 7D Mark II over and help me get some really good photos! Here are the final pictures guys, the moment we've all been waiting for! Now, you might be wondering how I came up with the name Chernobyl? Yes, it's actually a really simple story, I've always been interested in nuclear plants and especially Chernobyl, I don't know what it is but it just interests me. and late one night while I was sitting just glaring at my computer I got the feeling of a nuclear plant looking at the fluid going through the tubing, that typical "green-ish" look. in my opinion sort of looks radioactive, so I decided to call the computer Chernobyl! Now before you say anything. Yes, I know the reservoir is way too small and I am planning to change it as soon as money allows me to do so. I will be moving on to a cylinder reservoir instead and also I will be changing out the fluid to Mayhems Pastel yellow at some point. but that is for another time. I really appreciate all you guys for reading this log and giving me all the feedback, it has really helped to help me make it through the project! Thank you. August Lindgren
  16. [Update 11/03/2015: How time flies! Sorry about the lack of updates, but life got in the way. I ended up returning my USB 3.0 card because it was giving me some trouble with disconnection. Couldn't walk out of the store without something though, so I splurged and bought a 120GB Kingston SSD. VERY happy! Pic below! Also, I'm sick of my photos being so terrible so I'm working out some lighting and a makeshift tripod for my phone so I can stop using the flash and play around with exposure settings. So hopefully more AND better pics to come). [Update 07/03/2015 (later): Lots of work got done. Still not fully built, but getting there. I uploaded some more dirt porn pics (I took my PSU apart), as well as some pics of the progress I've made (hint... it involves modifying my PSU and also spraypaint). Check it out at the bottom of this post! [Update 07/03/2015: I found a surprise, I bought some things and I cleaned some stuff! Details below! [Update 06/03/2015: Corrected the heatsink / fan model below. Couldn't tell that it was the LED model thanks to the amount of dirt / cigarette tar on the fins  ] [Update 06/03/2015: Day 1 "Arrival" pics now on Imgur at http://imgur.com/a/PEjQN] Hello Linus Tech Tips Forum Members / Crew! I loved watching "Scrapyard Wars" so much that I've decided to work on my own piece of useful junk (plus I'm broke as hell and need a computer!). I sold my gaming rig in college to pay some bills and haven't had time or money to build another decent machine. No $300 budget here, but I want to see what I could build on the cheap in my area. I picked this PC up from a dude in my area on Kijiji (I'm Canadian aswell) for $100 (including 19" LCD, keyboard and mouse). She may not look like much now, but I think she's a diamond in the rough. Here are the initial specs of the machine (before the fun began): Case: Unknown Generic ATX Mid Tower (complete with scratches, dings and obligatory warped side panels). If you know what this case is called, please let me know and we'll record it for posterity (it is important, okay! LOL). Power Supply: Enermax Whisper II EG565P-VE (http://tinyurl.com/pznonod). I expected to get a piece of junk generic 250W or some nonsense. I was pleasantly surprised when I found this 535W baby in there. It's no sleeved, fully modular 80 Plus Platinum business, but it should do a reliable job! Motherboard: ASUS P5KC LGA 775 (http://tinyurl.com/k3lbtrd) Better motherboard than I was expecting aswell; I must be a pessimist. This thing has COMBO MEMORY!! (DDR2 / DDR3 Compatible). Also, the P35 chipset should allow me to do a decent OC. Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6600 - 4M Cache, 2.40 GHz (before the touching begins), 1066 MHz FSB (http://tinyurl.com/kxvaxd8) Heatsink / Fan: Zalman CNPS9500 LED (http://tinyurl.com/8ws2t99) Aftermarket HSF? Another bonus! With the price of copper right now, I could probably make my money back on this lump alone! Memory: 2 x 2GB (4GB) ADATA Premier Series DDR3 1333MHz (http://tinyurl.com/o7slhmv) Another pleasant surprise in a $100 cash purchase; $50 worth of DDR3! Dual-Channel bitches! my friends! Video Card: ASUS GeForce GTX 550 Ti DirectCU (http://tinyurl.com/pspomxq) wow. such cooler. many frames. so geforce. Storage / Optical: I was told ahead of time that the optical drive door is busted and that the HDD is dead. I have a spare 500GB 7200RPM Seagate SATA-2 drive around (I don't like Seagate, but it will have to do for now). Details to come. Airflow: 1 x ungodly, unbranded 140mm stove fan (yes, a fan from a fireplace) exhaust attached by 1 screw to the rear mount. I doubt I will be re-using this. Except maybe in my stove. I hope to get cracking tonight (because what else should I do at 3:30AM) with the disassembly and component cleaning. Tomorrow I will be taking a trip to Canada Computers for some MX-4, a couple case fans and other miscellany. Thank you guys for checking out this log. If you have any questions, suggestions or requests please let me know. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update 1 "The Arrival" - 06/03/2015: These are pics of the machine as I got it. I haven't begun to dig into it yet. More pics to follow. http://imgur.com/a/PEjQN Update 2 "The Plan" - 07/03/2015: I have a few new things to report. As I was tearing down the system, I found a surprise. The fellow had left me a very dusty Western Digital Green 2TB SATA-3 drive!!... It has since been cleaned and tested; works great! (he told me the HDD was dead; it was merely sleeping ). See pics, along with some more dirt porn in the album by the same name here: http://imgur.com/a/5JRwH Now... why is this update called "The Plan" you ask? Well I'll tell you. I bought some goodies for the build. Originally I wanted to keep the case, but it was seriously busted up. Very bent, missing some bits and the video card was screwed in with a very large self-tapping screw which stripped the hole. It is now like throwing a little tiny threaded hotdog down a hallway. I may do something with the case in the future, but if I'm gonna use this machine I figured WTH, I'll buy another cheap case! I decided on the DeepCool Tessaract BF (http://tinyurl.com/jvzrn6q). I was able to pick one up in-store at Canada Computers for $34.99. It's truly amazing what you get for that money! Cheap cases have come a LONG way! There are a few other parts I picked up like a cheap SATA DVD-RW, Case fans, a Wi-Fi adapter and USB 3.0 card w/ header. Check 'em out here: http://imgur.com/a/UE8fA. I spend $145.40 in total (yipes!) Total spent now is $245.40 (still good in my books!). Thanks again for tuning in and giving me your feedback. I am really enjoying playing with a PC of my own for once. I do a ton of un-satisfying work on other people's Dells and HPs, but this is the life! Any questions or comments, please don't hesitate! Update 3 "Paint it Black" - 07/03/2015 (later): So I bit the bullet and decided to brave the cold to bring you guys some sweet, sweet blackness. Gonna make this short as I have to head to work for 11, but needless to say... there has been great progress made today. Painting was fairly straightforward. Masked the areas I didn't want to paint, sanded the PSU lightly with 800 grit sandpaper then went crazy. Light coats are key to avoid drips. I should have put more coats on, as I noticed a little chipping (nothing a black Sharpie can't handle). Oh yeah, if you want better flow in cold climates, warm the can in the sink with warm water and put a sock over the can (preferably an old one). Check out these galleries for some pixies: Dirt Porn 3: Dirt Gone Wild (http://imgur.com/a/zwFmk) Paint It Black (http://imgur.com/a/tBhyb) Update 4 "It's Alive!" - 11/03/2015: So the system POSTed on the first try! Windows 8.1 x64 installed along with some games and utilites (benchmarks / OC to come). I have changed a couple things on the component side aswell. I returned my USB 3.0 card due to a weird disconnection issue with 3.0 devices and I now have a 120GB Kingston SSD as my primary drive (which is ballin'). It is limited by the SATA-II interface, but it definitely still feels really zippy! The return brought my cost down to $217.16, and the SSD brought it up to $296.25. I'm sorry about the poor photo quality. I have been shooting handheld from my phone in my low-light basement. I am working on some diffuse lighting stuff and a tripod mount for my HTC M8 so that I can mess around with exposure stuff and get you guys some nice images of the final machine (I have never been a strong photographer, but I have read a lot in the past couple days so I'm sure I can figure out something ). I will get some more pics up soon. I have a few more things I want to sort out on the aesthetic side before doing the glamour shots. Thanks for stopping in!. Oh yeah, pics... here you go (http://imgur.com/a/tpiC3).
  17. Can somebody give me a list of good parts for a computer. My budget is around $1,000 including screen, keyboard and mouse. This computer is not going to be used for gaming very much. It is going to be used for multipurpose things like programming, a little video editing, web surfing, etc. I would also like it to include a DVD drive and a good pair of speakers. I live in the USA. It can be any color or a mix of colors. I don't care about noise. And I would like it to be a ATX or mATX size. I am not picky with the screen but would like a back-lit keyboard and cordless mouse. I don't need a expensive graphics card but would prefer Nvidia. thank-you
  18. So I'm planning to build my own system and I'm not sure if what I have picked out for it is good or not. I was wondering if some of you could help me out? I have no money to build this machine, I don't really have the time to be contemplating $8000 computers when I need to be finishing school and finding a new job, but I can't stop. 21. Hi! I'm going to do a build in a bit over a year. (August-ish 2016) I'll post the progress here. The interesting thing will be the case, which will be as tiny as possible. Until the rig is being built, I want you to submit your ideas about what parts to get and whatever else relevant. On July 17th 2016, the parts for the rig will be decided and ordered shortly. Around that time, I shall announce the parts and configurations I have decided upon and some time later begin the build log. The parts I will list are subject to presumption and educated guesses. This rig will last me until I move to my own place. (Late 2018/Early 2019) I already own some of these components, so their price will not be included. These parts are what I'm currently considering (will be edited whenever I decide I want to change something): Custom (small) case Samsung 860 EVO SSD 500GB Intel Core i7-6770k w/low profile cooler M.2 SSD 128GB Windows 10 Corsair CS750M OWNED 4×8GB DDR4 RAM @ 2400MHz mITX Z170 socket 1151 (will upgrade when PCIe 4.0 comes out) nVidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti 12GB or AMD Radeon R9 "Fury X 2" 8GB HBM External DVD R/W Drive OWNED (will rework standard drive to external) 2× Cougar 140mm fan OWNED Estimated Price:~18,500 SEK/~2200 USD+case costs EDIT: In response to the comments. This was meant as a long-growing discussion, which would end in near absolute clarity once we'd reached the time of upgrading. I wished for certainty and planning, causing no regrets once the build has been decided upon. EDIT: The idea is that I want a case that can support a mITX board, a full-size PSU, The successor to the 980Ti, a normal SSD, an M.2 SSD, 2 140mm fans, and such. It should be custom and as tiny as possible. It will be finished in the late summer/early Autumn of 2016. I will design the case, and will begin to do so as soon as I can. What I want is the forum's input.
  22. Looks pretty crappy but would hold up for the meantime. Im about to trade my acer laptop to an unused Zotac GTX 760 OC ed. Or Sell the laptop and buy a Palit Jetstream GTX 760 for a pretty good deal. Gonna buy a better PSU for the upcoming GPU. Have a good day everyone.
  23. [WARNING - BUILDING IN PROGRESS - TRESPASSERS WILL BE INVITED TO WATCH] - Intro Hello fellas! This is Martin, from Denmark, here! I'll be building a watercooled Haf Stacker, and painting a little NAS server together as a mini bro. My previous case was the Corsair 700D, which was gorgeous, but i wanted something bigger with a lot of space. The choice was between the 900D or HAF stackers, and since there is a lot of 900D mods out there, then i just wanted to try something else. This casemod is called Avalanche. Simply because it is white, big and is gonna be terrifying heavy! I live on 1. floor and almost can't lift it down the stairs alone , even without anything inside it. I plan to live up to the name, which I'll be doing with the watercooling, that'll be themed white and black. Fittings, res etc will be themed white, while the fluid will be black as the best contrast. I will be running hardline tubing and soft tubing in the bottom for draining and easy acces. Cables will be sleeved with white paracord which looks insanely awesome with a twist of black sleeving spinning around it. As of lightning goes, then I took it to the next level and ordered a RGBW Pure White LED strips. With that I'll be using a DX8 Touch controller, which I'll be mounting In a place which is easy to reach, maybe from outside the case or the top of part of it. We also know that a Avalanche ain't no quite thing. So i'll be taking a UE Megaboom as a "built in" soundsystem. 24. Welcome to my Project build, Purple Phoenix. Introduction To start it seems fit that i introduce myself. Hey! im Ellie a 16 (17 in july) year old Girl who has a long love for computers. My end goal for this pc is that it will be show-worthy and also be my main workstation/gaming system to boot. This build is not being sponsored so i am funding it all on my own. my part preference for this build is mainly asus / corsair/ intel / noctua. this does not mean that that is all ill be using though, im still researching on watercooling equipment. overview im actually starting with my first ever pc build (minus the fact that i put it in a new case recently and added a few fans) so this build will be really evolving from what i have now and slowly progress into something that i hope will be quite amazing . Since this build is not being sponsored / or having any help being funded i plan on this being a year round build and hoping to have it done by this time next year so ill be posting updates as regularly as i possibly can. im going to be fabricating custom internal panels / mounting positions for items. in the end its going to be heavily modified. i will add rendered images on plans throughout (hopefully quite soon ill have one) This build will be highly themed around being purple and using up all space in the case and being an extremely clean with a smooth flow throughout. CURRENT PARTS: EVGA gtx 670 4gb sabertooth x79 motherboard silent pro hybrid 850 psu (80 gold eff) 16 gb ram patriot G2 intel i7 3930k (not being replaced because its still a great chip - dont replace something if itS AMAZING ALREADY LIKE DANG) bluray cd read write optical drive intel 730 series 480 gb ssd pyro 240gb ssd (old boot ssd) corsair force gs 240gb ssd (from my laptop but i put it in there to fill space 500gb WD HDD Corsair 760T Case water pro 2.0 cpu cooler thingy PARTS TO BE ADDED: 2 gtx 980's in SLI (not sure if possible but if it is i may also add a quadro card for workstation related processes') water cooling for graphics cards and cpu in a loop. possible new motherboard or just a wireless internet card a new psu (corsair) and get custom sleeving for cables) corsair dominator 32gb of ram clear watercooling tubing a mixture of uv and purple coolant. purple led light trips + uv PARTS TO BE FABRICATED cover that goes over psu and bottom of case sectioning it a bit (painted purple a ossible backplate for the back of case to cover up the indents in the back of the case to give it a more overall flat look (will be painted: purple or purple/white fade or flat white heres an image where i tried to make an example of what im trying to aim for with a cover for psu bottom of case. (i tried okay im not great at this stuff) If you have any questions or comments please feel free to say anything! also, if you have reccomendations on water cooling setup please put your input in the comments! P.S if you want to help chip in its greatly appreciated B)
  25. A project that I'm dedicating money, time, and passion, I want to create the best computer humanly possible in my power. Hello, my name is Joshua, I'm 17 and I live in the United States, I go to Delaware County Technical (Vocational) School for Network Administration & Digital Forensics. Ever since I was younger I had a strong passion for computers and electronics, it began to show truly when I was around 10 or 11 when I became very interested in photography, at the time I did not realize but I do now, it wasn't the idea of taking pictures, or capturing special moments like for most photography enthusiasts but the technology behind it. Throughout my life I have always been able to get technology by asking for my parents, but because were a high-middle class income family we could not always afford the best, currently, which I do appreciate, I'm running a Dell Optiplex 745. Just recently I found a job, I work the majority of my hours after school and on the weekends. With this newly found job I plan to dedicate a good bit of my paycheck towards this project as I am only a Junior in high school and have no other obligations. Oh ya! My profile picture is my girlfriend and I. As a gamer and a regular computer user my goals are to be able to play any game without lag in 1080p, I don't care about 4k or 5k. I also want to be able to overload my computer with programs with no problems. The looks of the PC is important but not as big as performance, sound also isn't too bad, I'm pretty fine with fans but at this point it seems I'll be going with liquid cooling. Over-all I'm hoping to keep my project of $500-1000 in total, as I only get around $80-100 a week from my job.
