  1. So I'm planning to build my own system and I'm not sure if what I have picked out for it is good or not. I was wondering if some of you could help me out? Here are the links to the spreadsheet and forum I have that contain the info about it: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-EGSnPAki6Co1hyqmrIqGAEvuFcOmkwt7-B9346jNoo/edit?usp=sharing https://docs.google.com/document/d/1afULqU7X5BjNTCuAzEPLqZMfIzLAbV6ir19vvMQqzwo/edit?usp=sharing
  2. Preface I first got into building PCs about 4 years ago. In my time, I have learned that building is not only fun and enjoyable, but a culture. So I like to think that my personal build has grown with me over the last several years since I started building and maintaining a PC. I've developed a bond with it and treat it like it's human. It's been through my good times and my worst times. It has especially been special to me while I was going through the hardest time in my life, the death of my mother in July of 2013. So I have named my build in honor of my mother. So we call her, Sherry. I do not have many pictures of Sherry before my current watercooling set up. I was not that into posting of forums even though I am always lurking here and on reddit. I seem to do more dreaming and visualizing about my PC then actual building. But the way I see it, you need to think...think...think again.....and then think even more before actually making any large purchases. Quick Personal Background I'm NiftyMist (obviously). I'm a 22 year old college student (currently in my junior year) majoring in Information Technology with a specialty in Networking and Cybersecurity. I have a passion for technology, building PCs, and gaming. Final little tid-bit, I'm engaged. Our wedding date is set for September 4th, 2016 which is after we are both finished with our undergraduate studies. The Build Core Specs: MOBO: Asus Maximus V Gene (Z77) CPU: Intel i7 3770k (Socket 1155) GPU: EVGA 780 Ti SuperClocked RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x8 kit (16GB) @ 1600MHz PSU: Corsair AX 850 These parts were all bought one at a time to slowly upgrade my build from its original form. I can't even remember the specs of the original PC. Recently I moved on to watercooling Sherry. It is something I wanted to do ever since I first got into PCs but never had the money to make it happen. Frankly, I was a little afraid to watercool because I have worked so hard in order to acquire these parts, so I was reluctant to attempt watercooling in the first place. I did, however, research for the last 2 years about watercooling so I would know what I was getting into if I ever had the extra money. Then this year, I got way more back on my tax returns than I was anticipating, so I decided now was the right time for me to go watercooling. Watercooling Parts: CPU Block: Phobya UC-2 (Clear) GPU Block: EK-FC780 GTX Ti with Backplate Radiators: AlphaCool NexXxos UT60 240 (Front) and AlphaCool NexXxos ST30 240 (Top) Pump: Swiftech MCP655 Reservoir: Swiftech MCRES MICRO V2 Tubing: PrimoChill Advanced LRT (Clear) 3x8 ID / 5x8 OD Fittings: XSPC Chrome Compression Fittings and Phobya Black Nickle 90 Degree Compression Fittings Coolant: Disstilled Water with Mayhem UV Clear Blue Dye This was my first attempt at a drain port. It has served me well the 3 times I have had to drain the loop so far. But I have trouble getting all of the water out of the front radiator. As far as cable management goes, I think I have vastly improved my ability to manage cables over the last 4 years. But this is one area that always has room for improvement, and its free. Storage: Boot Drive: Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB Mass Storage: WesternDigital Green 1TB Miscellaneous: Fans: Noctua NF-F12 x5 Fan Controller: NZXT Grid+ Lighting: UV Cold Cathode Overclocking: CPU: 4.0 GHz at 1.2v. Temps under load are 61C on the Core and 82C on the CPU Package according the Open Hardware Monitor. I feel like those temps are rather high for 4.0 GHz. I'm pretty sure my CPU block is not performing very well because I was able to run the same overclock with an H100i with lower temps. I used Asus Real Bench for stress testing the CPU. I've reapplied TIM and I did not get any better results. GPU: 1155 MHz Core Clock. 1975 MHz Memory Bus Clock. All while staying at under 50C in 3DMark. Thank you for reading this far and checking out my build! ~NiftyMist Update 1: So I have moved to a new apartment with my fiance. Thus my battlestation has changed slightly. As far as Sherry goes, I've taken out the WD 1TB in the 5.25 inch bay in favor of a BluRay Reader/DVD Reader/CD Reader. I have also deployed a FreeNAS box for all my data storage. Here are a few pictures of the new setup for now! Better picture of Sherry's UV lighting! And a bonus picture of my FreeNAS configuration. Specs can be included if request, but this thread is really about Sherry.
  3. Hello Everyone I have been building my custom desk for a while now and it has reached that stage where I feel that it's time to share with this great community. Would like to thank the likes of Peter Brands and Pascal de Greef who have inspired and motivated me to attempt something of this scale, there has been stages where I just thought that it was turning out to be a bit too much but with a bit of research I have come to learn that everything is possible. I have also learned along this journey that there is some really good people out their who are willing to give up their own time to assist and help a total stranger in all ways that they can. There's still hope for humanity after all :thumb: lol I have picked up a few sponsors along the way which I will be introducing as I progress through this build log, I would like to take this opportunity to once more thank them for their help and belief, this project would have been completely different without their help :dremel: But let's get this build log going, I will try and keep it as short as possible but have well over 1000 pictures on my facebook page, which by the way is FenixMS1.1. Just in case anyone is interested to have a look. Mod to live or live to mod??? Thank you everyone. Hope you enjoy the ride
  4. Frankly, I don't know if this should go in this section or in New Builds and Planning, but if need be, I am happy to have the moderators move this topic. Nodes - A Concept (more like an idea) I'm going to start this by saying I am probably not the person that is going to execute this build. Frankly, I do not have the funds or time to do this. If people like this idea, I would welcome sponsors and will try to find time to do this. I am giving permission to anybody on this forum to give this build a shot, if they feel like it. If you do decide to build this, then I would appreciate if you gave me credit for the design. I also want to apologize for my terrible drawing skills and my lack of scale. The fans might be completely incorrect in size. I also didn’t have a compass handy, so I couldn’t draw circles. Ok, let’s get started. This build is basically a computer (super small) with an external radiator box, which carries the pumps, fan controller, radiators and power supply. The only cables running between the rad-box and the PC are the 6 quick disconnect tubes and the 48 pin + SATA + Molex power thing I came up with (it is a 24 pin + two 8 pin PCI + 8 pin CPU). The rad box carries 1 560mm rad, 60mm thick, for the CPU + MB on one loop. I know it’s overkill. There will also be two 280mm (60mm) thick rads for the GPUs on another. Water will go into one GPU, then into a 280mm then into the other GPU and then into another 280 before repeating the cycle. This means there is no “daisy chaining” of GPUs. I plan to run the fans at the lowest speed possible for quietness, hence the huge rads. I also plan to use a mITX board with a server-grade PCIe 16x to dual 8x splitter. Then I would use 2 riser cables to go to the GPUs. This will make more sense in the photos drawings below. The possible use applications for this would be: - LAN Parties - Desk use (rad box under desk) - HTPC (with only one rad, one gpu and a weaker cpu) - Showing off Possible specs: CPU - 4790k Ram - High speed DDR3 (Dominator, etc) SSD - 850 Pro ? Mobo - Maximus VII Impact GPUs - 2x GTX 980 (Asus Strix, MSI) PSU - Silverstone Strider S, Corsair Water cooling stuff: Alphacool NexXxos 280mm (x2) Alphacool NexXxos 560mm Some strong, variable pump (x3) (maybe a D5?) Bitspower/Primochill Rigid Fittings Koolance Quick Disconnects EK Monarch Ram Block Bitspower Summit / EK Supremacy or EK / Bitspower full board block Aquaero 6XT Noctua NF-A14 iPPC 2000 IP67 x 8 Noctua NF-F12 iPPC 2000 IP67 x 4 Noctua NF-A8/9 x 2 Noctua NF-A6 x 4 Noctua NF-A4 x 2 P.S. The case would be a powder-coated grey Here are the pics:
  5. ===========================================WIP======================================================================================= For this build I wanted to make a Pentium II System that would be in a newer looking case while keeping the retro look, here are some pics of it WIP ===========================================Finished Product============================================================================= The build is complete but the video took forever!
  6. Ok, so I will be building another PC which is hopefully going to be a beast for Gaming, was wondering if I can get some other peoples opinions on the specification and how well it will run high end pc games and maybe at the QHD resolution. Click HERE to view the parts. Thanks for the views and maybe it will change my mind about different parts.
  7. I've been building and repairing PC's as a hobby for 12 years now but for the last few years I've had this idea of wanting to wall mount and water cool all my game consoles and PC. I liked the idea of having everything in one place. I need to start off by saying that i'm completely aware there is no significant benefit to water cooling game consoles, please understand that its purely an aesthetic thing for me. I love the look of anything water cooled so lets face it, at this point water cooling a potato would look pretty good to me. I was living alone with a mortgage so this dream was financially out of reach for me, moving back home recently removed that obstacle and finally allowed me to realize my dream. All up the main bulk of the project took me a few weeks to complete but 100% completion took a couple of months, for some reason its the final little things that seem to drag and take up a lot of time. The project consists of an XBOX 360, PS3, PS4 and Intel/NVIDIA PC (i5-4670k/GTX 970). Thats all cooled by a Quad, Dual and single radiator with 2 D5 pumps pushing the coolant. I'm pretty happy with the end result though if one day I happen make a new 2.0 version of it there are a few things I would change. either way I hope you enjoy. It starts with a 2mm sheet of aluminium Test fitting begins Screwing in motherboard standoffs Marking out the PCI-E cable slots Cutting the slots Testing & Mounting xbox 360 mounted. PS3 Mounted Retrofitting an XSPC CPU waterblock on the PS4 Marking the XBOX 360 DVD Drive for cutting to expose dvd Mounting the PS4 Blu-Ray Drive Progress shot PS3 Control Board Mounted Desoldering and extending xbox 360 RF Module PCB Cutting & mounting xbox 360 RF module pcb Cutting xbox 360 dvd drive hole Radiators mounted, xbox dvd drive mounted. New Parts Have Arrived!!! Starting the Backlit Company Logos Undercoat Applied Perspex cut for logos Painting the perspex Painted the Logos White topcoat painted Logos mounted, board mounting begins. xbox mounted, ps4 started. PS4 power supply and blu-ray drive mounted, PS3 Mounted GTX 970 mounted Asus sabertooth mark S mounted More close up photos... Progress shot Fittings & Tubing installed. Tested the logos I made and realized there wasn't enough light shining through the paint. A few minutes of research later I found the Translucent perspex i needed to achieve the glowing look I wanted, purchased. Couldn't remove the vinyl logos I made off the perspex without damaging them so i got new ones professionally made with a much better result. stuck them on the new perspex I cut and wallahh! Wall mounts mounted and LED strip lights installed Testing time... Some glowing shots... At this point I couldnt find any more 7/16 clear tubing so I changed from barbed to 1/2 inch compression fittings and got new 1/2 inch tubing. Its complete More photos.... Ran a switch for the cooling system (pumps, fans, led strips) And this is where i finish....It was a long and fruitful journey..

  10. Hi all, thought I'd share my finished PC with you all. This is my first ever build using acrylic tubing and I thought, "why not try acrylic tubing in a tiny case?" I've always loved the Corsair Air 240 and so the challenged began, how to fit all this hardware in a small case with hardpipe water cooling... 12. So im about to order my components and this is what i got so far, i will do a slight overclock ( nothing special tough) and plan on adding a 2nd graph card and 2x4gb extra RAM within a year. it will be used for Gaming and once every week rendering and maybe streaming on a daily base. Here it is: CPU:i7 4790k CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo GPU: EVGA gtx 780ti SC/ ACX RAM: 2x4gb Corsair vengeance pro 2133 mhz MOBO: MSI Z97-G55 SLI PSU: EVGA superNOVA 850 g2 HDD: Seagate barracude 1TB SSD: Samsung 840 evo 250GB CASE: Corsair Carbide 500r so i was wondering if this is a pretty solid and if there is room for improvement within the same price. im currently @ 1,505 euro ( im from the netherlands so things arent cheap here). im open for every suggestion only things i wanna keep the same is 1TB HDD and 250GB SSD i dont need more then 1tb HDD and i dont need less or more then 250gb SSD.
  13. So far, I only have the finest high-end potatoes from Intel.
  14. The Little Red Rendering Hood 6 Cores of Weird @Rumikarimu a banner would be sick yo. I filled out your form. *Disclaimer* The use of "The Creator," "He," or other similar terms, has nothing to do with God(s), they refer to me, the creator of this build. Just didn't want to offend anybody. Also my grammar is sub-par for a native English-Speaker. Enjoy. The Story: One day in the deep, dark forest of PCPartpicker, emerged a two builds named "4690k/770" and "4790k/750ti." They were placed there by the creator, nicon. He had the intention of creating a rendering machine for under $1050. Nicon loved to use the Adobe Suite everyday to create awesome content, for multiple reasons. He was torn between the two builds, because they both had their benefits. Alas, there was an evil being in the forest named "Lack of Money (LOM)" (aka. The Fox). LOM was causing Him to not be able to afford the builds. Nicon was mad. Suddenly, nicon came across more money, banishing LOM from the forest. The creator wondered what he could do with the extra money, and suddenly he knew. One word, "X99." Poof! Into the forest of PCPartpicker emerged a young build named the "Little Red Rendering Hood" The End. OK, enough with the crappy attempt to make a computer-themed fan-fic of the Little Red Riding Hood, a story which the last time I read it, I was still in 2nd grade. Anyways, I think you get the point. Here is the part list (THX to @AliveGhost13 for help) and a small rationale for each part: Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor: Murders the 4790k in anything multithreaded (rendering). I'm not going for 3-4 way SLI, so 5930k is pointless for me. Noctua NH-U14s: It's like a mini D15. It's quiet and it kicks ass. In some cases (no pun intended), it beats the D15 performance-wise. ASRock Fatal1ty X99M Killer Micro ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard: Gets good reviews, mATX, $40 rebate yo. It's also called the Fatality Killer, so +50 points. A-Data XPG Z1 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2800 Memory: Cheapest 16gb kit that matched my build colors. Also looks badass, like a bloody (actual blood, not the British expression) pyramid. 2800mhz isn't exactly slow either. A-Data Premier Pro SP900 64GB 2.5" Solid State Drive: 64gb is all you need for OS (Win 10), and essential applications. Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive: Reliable, good. I once a one dropped on on the ground from shoulder level (~5.5 foot) and it still works like a charm. I also put most of my media on external drives, don't ask. Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB WINDFORCE Video Card: I'm not gaming. Even if I was the 750ti is a strong performer. A 750ti is all I need to accelerate rendering/previews. Yes, a Quadro M6000 will render faster, but it will not scale with it's price difference. The 750ti reaches a sweet-spot in rendering performance/value. Blue PCB sukkks, might put some white/red acrylic over it as a pseudo-backplate. Thermaltake Core V21 MicroATX Mini Tower Case: Good, relatively large mATX case. Easy to work in, has room for the cooler, and a basement for the PSU+cables. Also great airflow/customizability. Raidmax 530W Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply: Gets good reviews, will work up to a 970 (if I upgrade) Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I 802.11a/b/g/n/ac PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth Adapter: I'm in a room with no wired connection. Fast, good, cheap and comes with bluetooth. (Future Upgrade) Noctua NF-A14 industrialPPC-2000 PWM 140mm Fan (x3) + Noctua Red rubber-corner things: Good, quiet, matches build. (Future Upgrade) A white and red (maybe red diagonal stripes on white background) acrylic backplate for the 750ti: Blue PCBs suck. Total: ~$1135 w/rebates, promos Everything has been ordered from SuperBiiz, Newegg, and Amazon. Amazon Prime stuff will come on Friday (12th). Other stuff is expected from Monday-Wednesday (15th-17th) next week. Hope you guys like it, nicon Table of Contents: Update 1: Package Delivery 1 (Amazon and 1/2 Newegg) - 6/12/15 Update 2: Package Delivery 2 (1/2 Newegg) - 6/13/15 Package Delivery 3 (Superbiiz) - ? P.S. The funny thing is, red is one of my least favorite colors.
  15. Hello everyone! I've been a PC enthusiast for around 3 years so it was time to build a proper rig ! So to expain the title here comes a little backstory. I've been a PC enthusiast for around 3 years, but never really seemed to save up enough money for a beast enough rig. Now at last I had the opportunity to jump out and think "Heck, let's give it a chance". Codenamed "Greyscale", This build is supposed to be a combination of great parts, at both aesthetically but also performance wise. Some of you might go crazy about my spec selection, but as it was some of the components I thought fit well together. Enjoy! June 4. Recieved my first two parts of the build today! Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 @ 2666 mhz & Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD. June 7. Unexpectedly as I was taking some B-Roll of my new RAM & SSD. I recieved two e-mails. My two next parts had arrived, let's start building a bit shall we? Install RAM into Motherboard, and enjoy the view. Time to Install the dust covers for all ports on the motherboard. Unbox dat case. B) Wait, why is the accessory box there? Ouch.. The case had taken some shipping damage, luckily it wasn't that bad. Time to install the motherboard which means I have to take out the port covers for the back I/O ports cause they don't fit through the I/O plate .. Fine I did it.. Well it's installed now! Let's do some light cable management..Well USB 3 cable says no. Time to install my trusty old HDD, using the best HDD sleds I've ever used. Hands down Phanteks! There we go. Now for the more exciting stuff, let's test out the lights on the case. I hotwired an old PSU from a Pentium 4 build I had lying around. And bam - there was light! So far so good people! I hope you've enjoyed this so far!
  16. Making my first pc, please help me with specs http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/vw9wJx
  17. What is the best gaming and editing PC for around $1000?
  18. TheDarkDefiner the most powerful gaming PC i`ve ever owned. The 970 4 GB (3.5 haha #RamGate) and the I7 4790k with H100i makes it the best gaming rig i possible could have ATM But the ram is holding the windows 7.8 score back it says 4 GHZ but its at 4.4 all the time it did cost me about 2000 $ USD wich in Norway is a crap ton off money Rate pls
  19. I was planing to build a new pc CPU : intel i7 4790k Cooler : CM hyper 212 evo RAM : 8GB PSU : Corsair cs650M SSD : Samsung 850 evo 120GB HDD : Seagate/WD 1tb GC : NVIDIA GeForce GTX980 (msi/asus) MOBO : Asus Z97-PRO(wifi) or MSI Mpower or MSI Gaming7 (anything else, open for suggestions) I wondered if choosing same brand for graphic card and mobo will have any extra advantage. Please suggest me with what brand to go or if same brand has no extra advantage then what combination should I go for (mobo/graphic card) for best performance and ease. Thank you
  20. Hi, I'm hoping that somebody here will help me out with building a PC rig for gaming. I tend to play a lot of FPS games eg battlefield 4 and I want to upgrade from my Acer Aspire laptop. Although it runs BF4 well most of the time, I very rarely get to above 30FPS on medium settings. After about 6 months Iv'e decided it's time for an upgrade. My budget is around £925, and I have come up with a rig, but I was wondering if somebody could help me tweak it/check compatibility etc. I will most likely be running 1 or 2 1080p monitors. Mouse and keyboard are not included in the cost as I have already decided which ones I will be purchasing and will be getting those before I start my build, however a monitor is included in this price, so any suggestions as to a replacement for the one I have selected would be appreciated. I would also be interested in potentially adding a 2nd video card at some point in the future. Parts are as follows: CPU: Intel Core i5-4690k - £167.50 Motherboard: Asus Z97-K - £94.41 Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB - £65.00 Storage: Western Digital 1 TB - Black - £54.99 Storage: Samsung 840 Evo 120 GB SSD - £55.00 Video Card: Asus Nvidia Geforce GTX 760 2 GB - £158.99 Sound Card: Asus Xonar DGX 5.1 - £22.99 WiFi adapter: TP-Link TL-WDN3800 N600 - £25.98 PSU: Corsair Builder series CX750M - £64.98 Case: Zalman Z11 plus - £49.99 Monitor: Acer G246HL 24" - £124.07 OS: Windows 8.1 Pro Student - £49.99 Total cost: £903.89 As I said, please let me know if anything I have specified would be too overpowered eg power supply, and if there is another option with similar but cheaper/better and similarly priced, and also if any of this is even going to work together. Future upgrades are likely to include an extra 8 GB of RAM and a second video card, along with a second, larger monitor (likely 27"). Thanks in advance Pav
  21. So, here we are LinusTech forums, the personal thread of my personal dream build. It is called the Enforcer V3. V3 as in MK3, this is the third instance of it. Specs: Case: Corsair 900D PSU: Corsair AX1200i w/ Sleeved Cables Mobo: Asus X99-A(1) CPU: Intel Core i7 5930K Ram: G-Skill Ripjaws4 DDR4 4x4GB 2400Mhz (Black) GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 295X2 - HDD: Western Digital Red 3TB(2) SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 512GB x2(2) WaterLoop (ARRIVING SOON) Radiator1: EK-CoolStream PE 480 (Quad) Radiator2: EK-CoolStream PE 360 (Triple) Pump: EK-DCP 4.0 PWM (12V DC PWM Pump) Reservoir: XSPC Photon 270(3) WB CPU: EK-Supremacy EVO - Nickel (Black) WB GPU: EK-FC R9-295X2 - Acetal+Nickel + EK-FC R9-295X2 Backplate - Black Fittings: EK-CSQ Fitting 10/16mm G1/4 - Black (x12) Adapters: EK-AF Angled 45° G1/4 Black (x12) Coolant: EK-Ekoolant UV BLUE (premix 1000mL) Tubing: TUBE PrimoChill PrimoFlex™ Advanced LRT™ 15,9 / 9,5mm - Crystal Clear (3m) Fans: Corsair SP120 High Performance (x7) Other: Thermal Paste: Arctic Cooling MX-2 Fan Header: EK-Cable Splitter 4-Fan PWM Extended(4) (x2) PSU Bridge: EK-ATX Bridging Plug (24 pin)(5) Additional Notes: (1) - "Why no X99-Deluxe ZOMG Republic of Gamers FTW KINGPING Edition?" - Because I render the extra stuff in the Deluxe useless. Price is high and a lot of the things in that board I won't use. X99-A is just the perfection. Cheapo version of X99-WS (2) - Actually re-purposed from the Enforcer V2 I am still using (up until I sell it to my friend) (3) - Christmas is almost here, and couriers stop working. I wanna make this before christmas, therefore I had to face a number of issues, especially with shipping. Thing is, the Reservoir I wanted from ekwb isn't in stock anymore so I had to fall back to the only possible option (Amazon, 1 day shipping). That glass reservoir is kinda interesting, looks good. The only thing that bugs me is that I've heard both good and very very bad things about it, especially about the plastic holes on the bottom. We'll see. (4) - This is just a cheapo way of powering the SP120 - one sata per four of those fans. (is that enough actually? It also has a 4pin header to connect to the mobo. Will connect that too. @Question) (5) - Paranoia. That should answer ALL of your questions. ...to be continued. STAY TUNED! Parts are coming soon. Then, It'll be build time!
  22. So i've been planning to do a complete rebuild of my gaming PC ever since Z97 came and i saw what Asus had to offer I've been purchasing the parts every few weeks as i didn't want to blow $2000 in one go again For the motherboard i went with an Asus Z97-A, as i like the aesthetic of the board, and also if i am to go SLI later on down the road The Case i went with was the Corsair Air 540, brilliant looking case, and tons of room to cable management like a maniac, and to just have a clean looking build compared to what i have now. The ram i've gone with is an 8GB kit of Adata 2400MHz DDR3, has really nice heatsinks on them, that fit with the mobo. And it was a really good price, and might upgrade to another 8GB kit later A friend offered me a deal on his Corsair H100 with a couple EKWB black fans for $110, I couldn't say no to that. Next on the list was a Thermaltake Commander F5 fan controller, so i can really hide all the fan cables, which luckily are all sleeved black to hide without issue. The latest purchase was the PSU, which i was having a hard time deciding what to get. I initially was going to get the Coolermaster V750S, but then my friend who sold me the H100, offered his Antec HCP 1000 that was too big for his current build for a really good price that again i couldnt say no to. All that is left is to get the 4690K in the next 2-3 weeks hopefully. I will be using my current EVGA GTX 660 SC until christmas when I will purchase the Asus GTX 970 Strix, at which point the build will be done here's some photos of what it looks like so far, with the cable management
  23. R2D2 Was built for video and picture editing and gaming. Reason for building was my 7 year old macbook died a slow death. This was my first time building a PC, and it was a lot of fun . CPU: I chose the 5930k over the 5820k for more pcie lanes (40x) CPU Cooler: I chose the H220x because i plan to include the graphics card in the loop and I'm a noob. If I would have waited a little longer I would have gone with the H240x and all 140mm fans but they did not do any sort of advertising for it at all and I had no idea it was coming out. (Image was corrupted) Thermal Compound: Because you need it. Motherboard: This choice was a vain one, I liked the streamline look of the Deluxe and wanted a white build. Not to mention the amount of expandability. Memory: This too was a vain choice. I've been watching videos of computer builds for a couple years now and have always wanted the Dominator Platinums. And hey, DDR4 so yeah. SSD/HDD: I chose the 850 Pro because of the 3d v-nand technology and the 450-500mbps transfer rates, and I chose the SSHD because I was curious about the technology and performance. Graphics Card: I chose the 780 6GB DDR5 because of the amount of memory and it performs adequately. Not to mention I entered it into the EVGA STep-Up Program so within a month or two I will ship it in and get it swapped for a GTX 980 ACX 2.0 for the difference in the two cards + shipping costs. Case: I chose the Enthoo Luxe because LED's. And because I like the look of Phanteks cases and windows (unfortunately mine was scratched on the inside due to little to no effort to tie down the accessory box so it was flailing around inside the whole way here) Another thing that happened was the front panel that goes over the fan grill has standoffs that you screw into to hold it there. Two of the four standoffs came off in shipping and were attached to the screws that were supposed to hold it there. I removed the standoffs with a pair of pliers and epoxied them back to the front fan grill panel. It's now solid as a rock but still unfortunate it happened. And also it matches my motherboard "luxe" and "deluxe" Power Supply: I had originally bought a Corsair AX860i Power supply from Newegg, but upon arrival I cut through the cellophane and got into the box and noticed there was a sticker that said "if sticker is damaged please check contents before acceptance." The sticker had been completely and obviously torn off and re-stuck. So I RMA'd it for a refund and drove to micro center the next day to pick up the EVGA 1000w P2. I chose this power supply because EVGA has great customer service and its more than overkill for upgrades. OS: Windows 8.1. Meh. Also looking forward to Windows 10. Case Fans: I will never again buy Corsair SP or AP fans (the ones with the rubber corners at least) Because I didn't even tighten the screws down all the way flush to the case before the rubber corner wrenched itself out of its holding and was physically impossible to replace the way it was. I had to drive to micro center (again) to get one fan. Which turns out the LED versions of the AF quiet editions have no rubber corners so I was happy. Also the rest are all Noctua fans because I wanted good PWM controllable fans for the H220x and matching fans for the front. Keyboard: I am using an $8 walmart keyboard to type this, I will be purchasing a keyboard in the near future. I've been looking at razer keyboards but I want to try the Cooler master Novatouch keyboard. I haven't decided. Mouse: I had the Razer Naga already and its by far my favorite mouse I've ever used. Headphones: I chose the Astros because I was a console nerd before I realized PC was the master race, and it's cross compatible with all of my systems. PLANNED UPGRADES: Another 850 Pro in raid 0 for the boot. GTX 980 ACX 2.0 (as stated previously). Perhaps another 980 in the distant future. First adding the graphics card(s) into the H220x loop, then a full custom loop. Swapping all fans for 140mm fans (and 140mm radiators respectively) A decent keyboard. EVGA white P2 custom single sleeved cables.
  24. YOYOMAH YOYOMAH is middle grade gaming/performance desktop. The entire project costs were $650-$800 on my part as some of the components were sponsored. The PC will be overclocked on the CPU and GPU. I'm targeting to get 1400 out of my 1200 card and 200-500 out of my CPU depending on which one I get.The CPU I have right now is just a Pentium for $40 that I will be using to set up all the other components while I wait for my i3 to arrive. Update #1 - Painting the case fans Update #2 - Adding NZXT Kraken CPU Cooler Update #3 - CPU and RAM Update #4 - Push Pull Radiator Update #5 - Second Graphics Card Update #6 - ENTIRE REVISION OF DESIGN (ITX case) UPDATE #7 - NEW GPU
  25. Hello LTT forum members , An update on The Northen King itself : http://pcpartpicker.com/user/DelusionalPhil/saved/L2QhP6 Onto the questions : + Question 1 : Can a G3258 run GTX 970 without bottlenecking it ? + Question 2 : Can I have UPS ship everything I bought from Amazon to Vietnam ? ( Because Amazon doesn't ship to Vietnam but UPS does ) + Question 3 : What is CAS mean ? + Question 4 : I want to if ASUS GTX 970 STRIX is a better choice then a MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G ? Because in my country the ASUS are cheaper than MSI one . + Question 5 : If I'm not Video Editing ( Maybe in the future I might get interested in slight editing ) , would the I7 4790K be a waste ? ( I am interested in Hyper Threading ) + Question 6 : Does the parts have any incompatibilities issue ? + Question 7 : Should I go for a Z97 with a G3258 and a MSI 970 for now and upgrade slowly into the future ? ( Rather than spending $2500 , that I don't have yet , on this PC and go for something practical and in budget - Which I don't even have - ) + Question 8 : Does the build look to fit the colour scheme for you ? Is it aesthetically pleasing to you ? Do you consider this a great build for this price point ? + Question 9 : Can anyone find me a better monitor ? ( Something that has more colour and still has 144Hz and 1080p ) + Question 10 : Why 1080p you ask ? Because it's GTX 970 ... I don't want to risk the performance of going 1440p . What do you think ? It is worth it ? + Quesion 11 : How am I going to accumilate that much money ? ( I'm 16 years old, lived in Vietnam , more specifically Ho Chi Minh city , and I want to find a part time job in this year or the next year ) . I currently have about $100 . I want to help my family with the debt problem first then I can carry on to the PC ( My family's debt is roughly $40 000+ , I want to help my parents first ... ) .
