  1. [Update 11/03/2015: How time flies! Sorry about the lack of updates, but life got in the way. I ended up returning my USB 3.0 card because it was giving me some trouble with disconnection. Couldn't walk out of the store without something though, so I splurged and bought a 120GB Kingston SSD. VERY happy! Pic below! Also, I'm sick of my photos being so terrible so I'm working out some lighting and a makeshift tripod for my phone so I can stop using the flash and play around with exposure settings. So hopefully more AND better pics to come). [Update 07/03/2015 (later): Lots of work got done. Still not fully built, but getting there. I uploaded some more dirt porn pics (I took my PSU apart), as well as some pics of the progress I've made (hint... it involves modifying my PSU and also spraypaint). Check it out at the bottom of this post! [Update 07/03/2015: I found a surprise, I bought some things and I cleaned some stuff! Details below! [Update 06/03/2015: Corrected the heatsink / fan model below. Couldn't tell that it was the LED model thanks to the amount of dirt / cigarette tar on the fins  ] [Update 06/03/2015: Day 1 "Arrival" pics now on Imgur at http://imgur.com/a/PEjQN] Hello Linus Tech Tips Forum Members / Crew! I loved watching "Scrapyard Wars" so much that I've decided to work on my own piece of useful junk (plus I'm broke as hell and need a computer!). I sold my gaming rig in college to pay some bills and haven't had time or money to build another decent machine. No $300 budget here, but I want to see what I could build on the cheap in my area. I picked this PC up from a dude in my area on Kijiji (I'm Canadian aswell) for $100 (including 19" LCD, keyboard and mouse). She may not look like much now, but I think she's a diamond in the rough. Here are the initial specs of the machine (before the fun began): Case: Unknown Generic ATX Mid Tower (complete with scratches, dings and obligatory warped side panels). If you know what this case is called, please let me know and we'll record it for posterity (it is important, okay! LOL). Power Supply: Enermax Whisper II EG565P-VE (http://tinyurl.com/pznonod). I expected to get a piece of junk generic 250W or some nonsense. I was pleasantly surprised when I found this 535W baby in there. It's no sleeved, fully modular 80 Plus Platinum business, but it should do a reliable job! Motherboard: ASUS P5KC LGA 775 (http://tinyurl.com/k3lbtrd) Better motherboard than I was expecting aswell; I must be a pessimist. This thing has COMBO MEMORY!! (DDR2 / DDR3 Compatible). Also, the P35 chipset should allow me to do a decent OC. Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6600 - 4M Cache, 2.40 GHz (before the touching begins), 1066 MHz FSB (http://tinyurl.com/kxvaxd8) Heatsink / Fan: Zalman CNPS9500 LED (http://tinyurl.com/8ws2t99) Aftermarket HSF? Another bonus! With the price of copper right now, I could probably make my money back on this lump alone! Memory: 2 x 2GB (4GB) ADATA Premier Series DDR3 1333MHz (http://tinyurl.com/o7slhmv) Another pleasant surprise in a $100 cash purchase; $50 worth of DDR3! Dual-Channel bitches! my friends! Video Card: ASUS GeForce GTX 550 Ti DirectCU (http://tinyurl.com/pspomxq) wow. such cooler. many frames. so geforce. Storage / Optical: I was told ahead of time that the optical drive door is busted and that the HDD is dead. I have a spare 500GB 7200RPM Seagate SATA-2 drive around (I don't like Seagate, but it will have to do for now). Details to come. Airflow: 1 x ungodly, unbranded 140mm stove fan (yes, a fan from a fireplace) exhaust attached by 1 screw to the rear mount. I doubt I will be re-using this. Except maybe in my stove. I hope to get cracking tonight (because what else should I do at 3:30AM) with the disassembly and component cleaning. Tomorrow I will be taking a trip to Canada Computers for some MX-4, a couple case fans and other miscellany. Thank you guys for checking out this log. If you have any questions, suggestions or requests please let me know. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update 1 "The Arrival" - 06/03/2015: These are pics of the machine as I got it. I haven't begun to dig into it yet. More pics to follow. http://imgur.com/a/PEjQN Update 2 "The Plan" - 07/03/2015: I have a few new things to report. As I was tearing down the system, I found a surprise. The fellow had left me a very dusty Western Digital Green 2TB SATA-3 drive!!... It has since been cleaned and tested; works great! (he told me the HDD was dead; it was merely sleeping ). See pics, along with some more dirt porn in the album by the same name here: http://imgur.com/a/5JRwH Now... why is this update called "The Plan" you ask? Well I'll tell you. I bought some goodies for the build. Originally I wanted to keep the case, but it was seriously busted up. Very bent, missing some bits and the video card was screwed in with a very large self-tapping screw which stripped the hole. It is now like throwing a little tiny threaded hotdog down a hallway. I may do something with the case in the future, but if I'm gonna use this machine I figured WTH, I'll buy another cheap case! I decided on the DeepCool Tessaract BF (http://tinyurl.com/jvzrn6q). I was able to pick one up in-store at Canada Computers for $34.99. It's truly amazing what you get for that money! Cheap cases have come a LONG way! There are a few other parts I picked up like a cheap SATA DVD-RW, Case fans, a Wi-Fi adapter and USB 3.0 card w/ header. Check 'em out here: http://imgur.com/a/UE8fA. I spend $145.40 in total (yipes!) Total spent now is $245.40 (still good in my books!). Thanks again for tuning in and giving me your feedback. I am really enjoying playing with a PC of my own for once. I do a ton of un-satisfying work on other people's Dells and HPs, but this is the life! Any questions or comments, please don't hesitate! Update 3 "Paint it Black" - 07/03/2015 (later): So I bit the bullet and decided to brave the cold to bring you guys some sweet, sweet blackness. Gonna make this short as I have to head to work for 11, but needless to say... there has been great progress made today. Painting was fairly straightforward. Masked the areas I didn't want to paint, sanded the PSU lightly with 800 grit sandpaper then went crazy. Light coats are key to avoid drips. I should have put more coats on, as I noticed a little chipping (nothing a black Sharpie can't handle). Oh yeah, if you want better flow in cold climates, warm the can in the sink with warm water and put a sock over the can (preferably an old one). Check out these galleries for some pixies: Dirt Porn 3: Dirt Gone Wild (http://imgur.com/a/zwFmk) Paint It Black (http://imgur.com/a/tBhyb) Update 4 "It's Alive!" - 11/03/2015: So the system POSTed on the first try! Windows 8.1 x64 installed along with some games and utilites (benchmarks / OC to come). I have changed a couple things on the component side aswell. I returned my USB 3.0 card due to a weird disconnection issue with 3.0 devices and I now have a 120GB Kingston SSD as my primary drive (which is ballin'). It is limited by the SATA-II interface, but it definitely still feels really zippy! The return brought my cost down to $217.16, and the SSD brought it up to $296.25. I'm sorry about the poor photo quality. I have been shooting handheld from my phone in my low-light basement. I am working on some diffuse lighting stuff and a tripod mount for my HTC M8 so that I can mess around with exposure stuff and get you guys some nice images of the final machine (I have never been a strong photographer, but I have read a lot in the past couple days so I'm sure I can figure out something ). I will get some more pics up soon. I have a few more things I want to sort out on the aesthetic side before doing the glamour shots. Thanks for stopping in!. Oh yeah, pics... here you go (http://imgur.com/a/tpiC3).
  2. Hey guys please check out my build, it's basically the same as Linus' new $2000 build, except prices are in AUD and I changed a few things like the motherboard, ssd and hard drive to suit my needs. I just want a second opinion from you guys to make sure it all works and change things if needed. And then I can go ahead and make it already! PcPartPicker: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/C7LVGf Thanks, Chunks.
  3. Some friend of mine had a GTX 980 Ti with a black aftermarket cooler, and let me borrow it to benchmark Minecraft. Shit was strange because the thing wasn't even plugged in via PCIe, but I ran the game anyway and got an insanely stable (almost constant) 99 FPS that would flicker to 100 FPS every so often. I wanted to benchmark it to compare it to a Zotac 660 Ti I saw on eBay (not in the dream) that I was going to buy (in the dream), since according to Octavialicious 600-series cards perform great with Minecraft compared to 700- or 900-series cards by Nvidia.
  4. Hello, everyone, I'm looking to build my first computer and wanted some feedback to see what everyone thought of my planned build PcPartPicker: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/DGamer35/saved/vqk6sY CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz 6-Core Processor Motherboard: Asus - ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard RAM: Corsair - Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory GPU: Asus - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB STRIX GAMING Video Card Case: Corsair - Crystal 570X RGB ATX Mid Tower Case Storage: 2X Samsung - 970 Evo 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive 2X Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive PSU: EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Display(s): 2X HP 27er 27-in IPS LED Backlit Monitor Cooling: Corsair - H150i PRO 47.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler + 6X Corsair - LL120RGB LED 43.2 CFM 120mm Fans Keyboard: Cooler Master - MasterKeys MK750 (MX Blue) Mouse: Logitech MX Master Operating System: Windows 10 Pro I'm considering getting a 750W PSU instead of the 650. Again haven't built it yet but looking to get some feedback on my first desktop and build, just don't want to get anything wrong or not account for something. I'll do some overclocking. Ima noob at building...
  5. hi everyone, hows u all are doing ? I am going for a gaming computer basically upgrading. 6. [build Log] Replacing the tired old Core 2 Duo System OK Guys so here goes nothing. I've been lurking around this forum for a few months now and I was inspired by build logs so I decided I'd build myself a new computer. My current system is struggling at my little resolution (1440x900) in a lot of titles and I felt it was time to retire and sell my Core 2 Duo System and build a new Skylake system since that's the newest platform out right now. I have bought some parts, and I am waiting on checks to buy others. This rig will be used for gaming and 3d rendering of projects on revit, inventor and solidworks, etc. I am aiming for ultra settings in all currently released titles at my resolution. I do not need 60fps, however, I require a frame locked 31fps. 31fps I have found to be the spot where the picture isn't stuttering and the gameplay is smooth. The frame lock is the reason why I am going with a NVIDIA card for the new rig as opposed to an AMD card which I have currently. I will also be requiring 16gb of ram for the buffer on editing, rendering and gaming. I've delt with small amounts of ram long enough, and even 8gb will become small in about 2 years. I have no need for high level features from the Z170 boards, so I decided an H110 board would work well enough. As for storage, I am going to be purchasing a 2tb drive and a 120gb ssd for OS and office programs. For the new system specs, components in bold have been purchased already. Anyway, without further ado, I present you with the old systems specifications. Tired Old Core 2 Duo System Specifications NZXT Source 210 NZXT GRID Antec VP-450 7x Rosewill Blue LED Fans Dell LGA 775 Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 4GB DDR2 800 Asus DirectCUII R7 260X 250gb Hard Drive As you can imagine those specs do not run anything I want them to to nearly the threshold I have. I am clearly in need of a new system, which is why I am posting my build log today. While my other build log was halted because of financials, this one will be completed in the near future because of my new financial stance. I will be purchasing a few parts every week or so and will be posting pictures and my thoughts along with it. My new system will be consisting of: New Skylake PC Build System Specifications Cooler Master N200 EVGA 430 W1 80+ 5x Rosewill Fans *Comparable to CM Sickleflow* GIGABYTE H110M-A Intel Core i7-6700K 16gb DDR4 2133 (8gb bought) ASUS STRIX GTX 970 4GB Toshiba 4TB 128MB Cache/7200RPM Hard Drive 250GB Samsung 850 EVO With this configuation I should definately be able to run all current titles at high or ultra at 1440x900 and I will see a nice boost in CAD rendering times and abilities. Windows 7 will boot very quickly and I will have no trouble in launching small applications quickly. My Folders in Windows 7 will be moved to the Hard Drive in order to keep the SSD's read and write cycles down for longevity of fast NAND. All programs will be stored on the SSD except for steam, which will be kept along with my game library on the Hard Drive. All of those fans will keep the system running nice and cool, and the EVGA PSU (Don't yell at me, I've read multiple places that EVGA's OEM is Seasonic) will keep the system powered nicely. Intel's Core i5 will be amazing coupled with the 960 and will keep me at my fps and detail threshold as well as keep my rendering times way down. I will be using the stock Intel CPU Cooler until I see a CPU temp rise above 65C in my normal use. Definately let me know what you guys think, and if I should change anything I haven't already bought based on what I've said about my thresholds in how the new system will need to perform. Pictures will be updated shortly (Give me a couple days, lol) and will be updated as I receive parts and install them. Thanks for reading, and have a great rest of your day! EDIT 1: 12/1/2015 2:31PM PST - Changed storage solution EDIT 2: 12/7/2015 1:38PM PST - Changed storage solution, graphics card, processor, and deleted fan hub
  7. Hi I'm looking to build a desktop that I can use for CAD work for my degree. I use programs such as SolidWorks and Autodesk (Alias, Inventor and Vred). I have been thinking to buy a laptop for quit some time but investing in a desktop that can preform so much more is obviously the better choice. My little brother will also be using this desktop for Adobe Premiere Pro and Autodesk (3Dmax and Maya). So this investment is good for us both. I want a Desktop to be best at CAD/CAE software and video editing but I also want it to be great at gaming aswell. This is what I have chosen so far: Intel i7-6700k Skylake with GTX 980 option: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/8dDdZL or Intel i7-4790k with R9 390 xFire option: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/TqqqjX I have had some experience with building a desktop before but never in this price range and with this kind of setup. I've chosen to xFire two R9 390 in the other option simply because of the vRam capacity. I've read somewhere that its good to have great vRam for rendering and CAD stuff. Not sure if that is true. I can't afford a Xeon CPU or a Quadro GPU so I really hope this is good enough. Please let me know what you think. Could I go for better parts for the same price or cheaper? Is xFire or SLI really helping in terms of getting better performance for CAD and editing or have I completely done this wrong? Thanks
  8. Below are the specs. Folks on the forum helped me address finer points I had issues with. Alot of modding and painting went into the H630 case (Paint job far from perfect, but I am happy with it). Aside from a missing screw or two, it is done. And I will refrain from tearing it apart and putting it back together  . As through trail and error (as has been the case for the last few months, this project has been ongoing for quite some time). Thanks! 9. So I'm looking at two possible configurations for a PC, I know what parts I want, but I can not decide as to weather I want to build a small form factor rig or a full rig. The reason why is because if I go with a small form factor it will be cheaper for various reasons (see links to parts lists) and simply because I like the idea of the small form factor. But the problem with that is if I ever wanted to add another graphics card or possibly a PCI-e based SSD in the future, I can't because I do not have room sue to there only being one PCI slot on the board. Small form factor: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wdjtD3 Full form factor: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/nZXthM Thanks in advance!
  10. Well... where to start? Hi, I'm a 22 overly-cheerful person who loves the world of technology and art. Got the hobby from my dad, and my uncle's brother, which was really into art. I recently finished my B.A. on Science of Arts and Video Games, and I took it as a complementary concentration, but mostly because it gives a lot of opportunities in the art industry as it teaches you different areas of the same branch. About my nickname? Well, it all started when I was young, my grandmother gave me a SNES when I was 3, and yes my grandmother is a gamer and still plays hardcore games. And so I was fascinated by the structure and mechanics instead of the game itself. As I got older, I've made enough research that I ended up learning more about Japan, and at that time I watched a movie called Matrix, which mixed up and... You get the picture. So how did I get here? Funny you should ask, I'm very picky when it comes to tech and especially if it's for me. I love to learn new stuff, no matter the dilemma, I go for it. Before graduating from university, I wanted to build my first PC, I wanted something really good, but my budget at that time wasn't enough, and so I decided to make it after graduating, and that time is this time. And what best place to learn than in YouTube, and looking at LinusTechTips not only taught me on how to build, but on how to succeed when it comes to the world of computers and engineering. What I do now? I thank God for everything that I am now; I'm a video editor at a television and radio network company. I'm a thinker, a builder, an artist, a writer, a designer and a computer novice when it comes to my free time. I'm an overly-cheerful friend when it comes to socializing, and so now I start my life with the future of my passion, making my dreams a reality. See you around, hope to get to know this community. Thanks Linus for the videos, they are of great help. Sincerely, NeoHikamaru
  11. Im planning on trying a new Project, To strip the Apple Mac Pro of internal parts and put a bunch of new PC parts inside, The challenge will be compatibility and the mother board , I might have to cut out the part for the IO shield, The goal is to keep it as close to the original as possible , This thing might be worth alot someday if i keep it original case and keep the parts , but This could be fun. Parts goal GTX 970 MSI 4g Intel i5 Motherboard- whatever works Ram 16gb Water cooling Corsair H100i power supply - whatever SSD - 500GB Hard Drive -Seagate 2tb Hard Drive SSD combined thing As you can tell its not super planned out but i figured this would be a cool project Also might cut out the apple logo and place it with a glass Apple logo to look inside Feel free to comment anything
  12. LET'S CHANGE THE NAME TO Is this worth for 550$? Hi guys, I'm new here. And my first question here is, is this worth? For "gaming pc" that can run for example: GTA V on medium, low sett. Crysis 3 medium.... http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9wprkL GPU is about 100$ CPU cooler is about 20-30$ Also thinking about upgrade after 1-2 years of using this "stock" PC All of the components are new. THX TO EVERYONE WHO REPLIES.
  13. I'm looking for opinions on my dream setup. I'm definitely not building this anytime soon, but I may build something similar in the future. I will use this computer mostly for gaming and entertainment purposes only. I also do some music making and work. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2TCFVn I'm also thinking of including the Samsung SM951 M.2 256GB SSD. Do leave some comments and tell me if anything can be improved. Thank you!
  14. Just curious and want to know you guys' dream cars/motorcycles/vehicles. Price doesn't matter, it doesn't have to be a supercar or even a sports car or would you rather build your own car??? Would you like electric or plain old muscle V8. As for my dream car, it is tough to decide, real tough. I think I will go for the Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita but as it is limited and sold out I think I will go for a crazily modified version of the Dodge Demon or a modded Mustang(70's maybe??). Count in a few GTRs and the Skylines and maybe a Tesla and you are almost there. I probably want to ride the F-35 Raptor too one day. But at 3 Billion $ it is a little out of my price range. Too bad i can't at least fly in a Concord.
  15. I am surprised this topic hasn't already been created honestly (from what I could find in the search) as I realised this topic could be quite funny. Perhaps it could be pinned because of that reason alone Anyway, I shall go first since I had two really weird dreams last night. 1. I somehow accidentally shut a kitten in a freezer until it became a block of ice. When I realised the kitten was in there, I took it out to let it dry in the sun and somehow the poor creature came back to life! I then kept it to love it forever 2. I went to a pool party but whenever I got in the pool rocks fell from the sky. Everyone in the pool at the time was told to run to a safe place which was a small green van several miles away (very odd if you ask me). Whoever got in the van first would win £250. Obviously with it being my dream I got to the van first but I ran on all fours and not my legs to get there. To my surprise I was then knighted and then given the £250 (my unconscious is actually richer than me haha) Anyway, please share your dreams and perhaps we can get this to become a pinned topic!! - Have fun!
  16. Hey Guys, Finally have gotten around to cleaning my desk enough for a decent photo with all of my rigs, so thought it a good enough time to do a writeup of what I’ve got! In saying that, Please (for the love of Gaben) ignore the PotatoCamera. My 6S+ currently has an issue with the Beta firmware and AutoStabilizer that I can't fix. First off, like any functional network, is the modem or router, depending on the use case. I’ve got myself running a TP-Link modem bridging to my dedicated VESA-mounted ITX pfSense box (with all the good packages running) on the back of my servers’ screen to the Right. Theres a D-Link 802.11ac AP hiding behind there aswell, with everything connecting to a 16pt Netgear ProSAFE switch secured under the desk. Speaking of Server, refer to image 3 (black & green background). This i5-4670K@4.2GHz beast has looked after every device that’s come into contact with the residential wireless. Handling everything from SMB shares & DHCP leases to PXE boot environments & a few CSGO games, this 12tb storage box has lasted the last 3 years. But its now completely full, and due for a rackmount upgrade once my new living area is put together. Which I’ll get to later. Laptops have been slow and progressional, but all in all I think I’ve got a good combination. 18.6” Horize P170SM. i7-4700HQ, 16gb DDR3L, GTX765M, 1080p IPS, 2x mSATA drives (Win & Linux) 13.3” Metabox W230ST. i7-4770HQ, 16gb DDR3L, Intel iGPU (dGPU fried), 1080p TN, 2x mSATA (Work & Home) 13” Kogan Atlas UltraSlim Pro. M3-6Y30, 8gb LPDDR3, HD515, 1440p IPS, 256gb SSD (Win) Hiding away behind the 1080p IPS USB-C (DP/TB) screen just above the keyboard, is my Intel SkullCanyon NUC6i7KYK. i7-6770HQ, 32gb DDR4L, Iris Pro 580, 2x 256gb M.2 RAID0. Absolute beast of a PizzaPocketPC. Much worth. And now, my current main configuration. Weighing in at about what feels like 30kg on some days, The BeastRig. Equipped with an i7-6800K@4.2GHz and cooled with the H100i w/pushpull, my (unfortunately-replaced) GTX780Ti and gorgeous GTX1080Ti (Both ‘Founders’ and not OC’d), 32gb of CorsairDommyPlats (2x16gb DDR4@2400MHz), 512gb 950Pro M.2 SSD (and some 500gb 850EVO’s in the drive bays), with all of this connected to the only LGA2011-3 mATX motherboard I could find, Asus X99-M WS (I went through 3 DOA’s). A beautifully-crafted system. But I wanted more. So GOverlay LCD screen, all the compatible Corsair Link components and the USB headers are being jumped through the NZXT Hub+ thingo, all crammed into the Corsair Air 540. Of course, with RGB. Full load, pulls as much as possible from the HX1000i, which is pretty incredible. Now, I said I wanted more, didn’t I. So the BeastRig doesn’t stop there. I’m very familiar with virtual technologies, having used VMWare for a number of years for personal usage. But never having known about ESXi or Bare-Metal initialization. Which, when I looked into it (surprisingly just before Linus did one of the unRaid videos), I was amazed at what could be done with it. Google it, its pretty sweet stuff. Fast forward 2 weeks, I’ve got 3 virtual systems fully operational on this Beast of a machine. One connected to the 1080Ti with 6cores & 15gb RAM, and the other with the 780ti, 4cores and 10gb. Theres another machine with 2cores&4gb that I VNC/RDP into for downloading all of my perfectly legal content. Now, I’ve got my own little corporate environment running in my bedroom. Soon to get a more-than-hefty upgrade, which I'll re-post in a few weeks-months when its all up and running. w00t! If anyone wants more info on how the rigs run day to day, lemme know and I’ll fill you in. Shits pretty awesome IMO. *Last image, PC on the Right is not my rig; took BeastRig to a mates' for a sesh* Edit: I have atleast 3 instances of Synergy being served between these rigs for different purposes. Absolutely love Symless' program. Signing off, </MACE529>

  18. Hey people! I like laptops. They can do a lot of desktop-like tasks without being too much less portable than a phone (I find that in general, tablets are pretty useless). There's a whole lot of diversity in the market, and lots of different ways manufacturers have approached them. So I've been wondering: What's your dream laptop? Would it be an ultrabook? A beast gaming rig? A tablet-laptop hybrid? How would you use it? In conjunction with a desktop? As a replacement for your desktop? What features can you not live without? What features do you need? Please use technologies that have been demonstrated in the past (i.e. no Titan X's in 10-mm thin ultrabooks). Things like 360 hinges, flexible OLED displays, fingerprint sensors, all fair game as long as it's realistic. I'll start: My dream laptop would be an ultrabook, I would constantly have it with me and hook it up to an external graphics card for work so I don't have to maintain separate computers. It would have a 13.3" 3200x1800 OLED borderless touchscreen display with one chin on the bottom (XPS style). It would have a 360 hinge connecting it to a moderately thin chassis with an i7-6560U with 540 Iris Pro graphics (moderately powerful), 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. It would have one USB C, one USB A, MiniDP, SD, and headphone jack. I would have a GTX 1070 sitting in an external GPU chassis to be connected via USB C. The screen would have a magnetic pressure-sensitive stylus (those are a lot more useful than you'd think, just try using a SP4). The computer would have a metallic outer casing. So it'd be something like a mashup of the Dell XPS 13, MS SP4, and Lenovo Yoga Pro 3. What's your dream laptop?

  21. First desktop pc I've made/had after 10+ years of macbooks and consoles. Feels good! Built this because I wanted a small, powerfull and quiet pc. First build I've seen with atx psu and full length graphics card. Specs: i7 4790k Cryorig C1 with Fractal Venturi HF 140mm Asus z97i-PLUS 16gb Corsair Ram 1TB total ssd storage Corsair CS650m EVGA 980 ti SC+ Ncase M1 Originaly went for Msi 980ti Gaming 6G and it fit without modifications to the card itself, but the fans went haywire and RMA'd it and changed to EVGA one since it was rated as the quieter one. Soundlevels are dead silent, and acceptable when gaming. Temps normal use: Cpu - 40-50c Gpu - 45-60c During gaming: Cpu - 60c Gpu - 77c All powercables are custom made by Mundi at Icemodz He does great work and is really competative on price. . Now pictures of the build. Hope you like it.

  24. Ok so here is my plan I am getting the x-carve by inventables and I was thinking that a fun project would be to build a wall mounted pc that would sit above it. So above it a quick sketch that I did of the basic layout of the project I am thinking that 4' x 4' would be a good size so that I can have plenty of room to mount things Here are so of my ideas so far: now all the graphics will be led back lit and removable so that you can change them by simply milling a new design and setting it in place all of the pc components will be set on acrylic and led edge lit 32" led 1080p monitor will be used and flush mounted into the main board front i/o panel w/ fan controller, usb 3.0 ports, audio ports, sd card reader all water cooling will be done with clear water blocks and hard line tubing with a triple 120mm rad I believe the main board will have to be cut using 4 different board and then joined after milling is complete on each board (I can only do 800mm x 800mm at a time on x-carve) Computer specs so far: Gigabyte gtx 960 2gb g1 gaming samsung 850 evo 250gb ssd 2x seagate barracuda 7200 rpm 3tb hdd tp-link wdn-4800 wifi card Now my question to you guys are: What do you think of the idea? Who would you improve on it? What do you dislike? What cpu, mobo, rad, res, psu should i use? I need serious help on making thr front i/o panel I am not sure where to start on this? Now I will be using the computer to run the x-carve and work in the design software so no gaming or nothing like that But I would like the components that I still need to be all matching in looks and kinda match the theme of the project with the led lights (color changing) and main board begin wrapped in carbon fiber vinyl thanks in advance
