My baby, my dream come true. I've been stuck with the same old PC for 5 years now and decided it's finally time to upgrade. I was thinking of saving some money here and there and have an alternate less expensive version, but this is what would make me happy for a good 4-5 years more. Appreciate any opinions, but with a good explanation why. THE PC: The cooler that I forgot to add in the list but is included in the build:

Hello all, this is my first custom built computer. Specs: CPU: Intel Core i5 4670k GPU: Gigabyte Windforce 3x OC GeForce GTX 770 RAM: 8GB G Skill RAM CPU Cooler: Scythe Samurai SSD: Corsair Force LS 120GB Motherboard: ASUS Z87I-Pro Case: bitfenix Prodigy Fans: bitfenix Specter Fans PSU: be quiet! Power Zone 650w Here are some pictures: Since I got it I can max out the video settings in every game I play, I don't have any complaints about it so far. Within the next few weeks I will be getting a 1TB WD Blue HDD and a new keyboard, mouse, monitor and headset. I would appreciate any feedback. I am sorry for the poor cable management inside, If I do add a HDD I will be tidying it up and I can not use the side panel USB 3 because the CPU cooler covers the USB 3 internal connector, so I used the included USB 3 to USB 2 converter.

Linus, I had a dream about you and Slick last night. You, me, and him were all on a sail boat in the ocean (I don't know why) and we crash and you and me collect scraps to build our own bucket to float away in that has stuff like a jacket and floaties (I have no idea where Slick went) So we're floating along collecting trash and scraps of the ship when we stumble upon two huge pirate ships. One was on fire at the front of the boat cowarding away and the others were about to board the other ship. We take our boat up to the "winning" boat with the other ship and somehow walk from our boat to theirs and we say that we can help them and they start chasing us. We take wood off of their boat as ores and use it to paddle back a short distance to shore. We're in a grocery store (I think it's Target) and the dock is the salad aisle. We're just chilling in that aisle and the pirates start shooting melon canons at us and Slick is just standing in the place that holds the salad, cucumbers, bananas, etc., like actually inside of it standing in the structure of it, and he says "Run, Linus, Run." and that's where it ended. Whoa. Sorry if it's confusing, it is for me, too, and it doesn't help that I just woke up from it.

This is my 2nd build but a lot of my parts came from my 1st build so technically this is my.. 1.5th build? Anyway, still really new about computers but my enthusiasm grows every day. Just wanted to show the linustechtips community my rig so I can get some feedback and any tips you guys might have I use this computer for gaming, picture editing, light video editing, movies, studying and web browsing. case: Fractal Design Define R4 Mobo: MSI Z87-G43 CPU: i7 4770k cooler: h100i with cougar vortex w/ blue LEDs placed in pull exhaust Ram: Patriot Viper 8gb boot drive: 120gb Kingston SSD storage: 600gb 2.5" drive HDD GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 660 2GB PSU: bequiet! 750w bronze rated Fans: 2 UV blue Gelid & 2 black cougar vortex extras: 1 blue usb strip for a backlight effect & 2 UV cathode sticks I know I know! First thing I will probably need to upgrade is my hard drive... I will get a 1tb in the near future.. and bitfenix blue sleeving is on the way! ** A couple updates ** - Bitfenix cables arrived and installed - flipped my rad although I'm not sure if I'll keep it this way. I think I like the other way better. Thoughts? - put some carbon fiber looking vinyl accents I definitely need to do something about those ugly wires from the PSU. Thinking about just wrapping it in black tape. photo shoot in the kitchen. Whats up B) The rats nest. I know it looks pretty bad but I did try to make it somewhat organized. It's not seen anyway.. oh well

Ever since Pebble came out, i didnt even consider it due to its "ugly" design but now that the Pebble Steel is released, i am having doubts of the product as a whole.. the features and the specs. So I Just wanna know what are the general features people think a Smartwatch should have As for me, Here it is: - Curved/Flexible Low powered Display I really believe Colored Eink is the way to go. It offers an always on display which every watch should have and super low battery consumption. Qualcomm's Mirasol Display sounds Promisable so i really hope more OEMs adopt that technology and work on it. There are many other promising technologies out there such as Eink Triton. Flexible OLEDs are actually a perfect option only if they offer low battery life. Current FOLEDs have high battery consumption and IMO unless there is a revolutionary battery tech breakthrough, these will not be suitable for smart watches. - A Sexy Metal Chassis The Pebble Steel's chassis is beautiful in all the right ways but i dont think it is perfect as the watch itself looks like a block.. like a square block. [Most likely due to the battery. I like what Qualcomm did with theirs. They placed the battery on the strap. This way, the watch face will be less clunk, allowing for a more comfortable, even and well balanced feel. If only they made it with more premium materials like aluminium and steel. - SmartPhone Notifications Frankly speaking, all i expect from a Smartwatch is just to receive notifications and glance through it. Pebble did an excellent job with it and i love how Qualcomm toq allows you to reply the message using predesignated text. Samsung overdid it, we all knew that. I have no experience on Sony's SW2 so i will not comment on that but it really seems like a good device. - Battery Life I believe a smartwatch should at least have a 5 Day battery Life. One Week would be perfect but realistically speaking 5 days is the way to go and to achieve this the display technology is key. Samsung's one day battery life just wont do it. -Pricing The price of smartwatches should be around $150 to $220. Seriously when you consider "highend" smartphones such as the Nexus 5 costing around $350, you start wondering why should you buy a secondary device for around the same price. IMO, the pebble is overpriced. For what it does, which is mainly notifications, and with that Decade old epaper display on it, why does it cost $150 and if not $250. it is just ridiculous. Well i guess you pay for the R&D? - Wireless Charging Wireless charging, even though it is not long range, it gives convenience for the user. Just take it off and place it on some dock is so convenient. - Input Touch input. In the 21st century, pressing buttons to use your device.. well just turns me off. lol.. Touch allows for easy navigation and does not require any hardware that will bulk up the device. Currently, the only Smartwatch close to this is the Qualcomm TOQ. Seriously, it really is the best for me now. The only thing that stops me from buying is that ridiculous price tag. If it cost me well $200, you will not see me writing this topic. So what are the dream features/characteristics of a Smart Watch?

Thought it would be fun to see peoples dream keyboard. These are the features in my dream keyboard: Swappable cherry mx switches that are sold separetly, they all are attached with a stable clip-design. Keyboard base is made of an aluminum construction, you can either choose a tkl or a full-size design. Keycaps made of either rough aluminum or glass, option to get them laser etched with letters/numbers. Every key switch has a individual RGB-led that can be controlled in software. This would look great with glass keycaps. Built in USB 3.0 hub. Screen of a smaller size to indicate for example stats of your key presses, wpm, or maybe time/date? With a price tag of 29.99, no but seriously, i would definitely pay 400 bucks + for this keyboard. So, what's your dream keyboard?

Okay, so if you go to my profile, you can see I'm running some older hardware. It's not too old but time for a new build. (Also blue screening has just begun being a common occurrence.) The system will feature a mATX Intel 1150 (maybe 2011 socket but I'm still debating this.) motherboard. 16GB's of ram and a 4GB Graphics Card. The system will be running flat out most of the time as rendering lightmass in UDK is very intensive and if the job is big enough can take quite some time. I'm looking at the Fractal Design Mini as it is small, and looks great. I will be modding it and I will be running some kind of water cooling in it. I understand the Fractal Arc Midi r2 is a better choice for gaming ect... but I personally don't like the aesthetics of it. As for the Motherboard or Main-board or Planar, I am looking for a motherboard with two 16x slots or at least one 16x and one 8x slot. Graphics is a main point as I want a nice card with a good amount of power. I'm not really a green team fanboy but I just like Nvidia cards, I'v always ran them and never had a problem. Anyway. I have about a $1700 AUD budget (not including mods or displays). I would like suggestions on the best CPU, Motherboard, GPU and RAM with a 'best bang for buck' mentality.

LINK TO PARTS LIST AND PICTURES: http://pcpartpicker.com/b/vvWXsY (NOTE: pictures do not reflect the recent final RAM upgrade and improved cable management) For convenience, here's the parts list, with a TL;DR review: CM Elite 130 - I really really liked the case when I saw it at Microcenter, and for $40 it's got room for everything I needed. The only thing missing is a carrying handle. Corsair CX600M PSU - It works, and that's all I really care about. Corsair H80i - I haven't overclocked yet, but my goodness is it quiet! It's quieter than the Hyper 212 EVO at idle and at a decent load; a stock 4790K remains around 55C at a real-world load (Prime95 test pending). Intel Core i7-4790K (at stock, for now) - the iGPU, QuickSync for OBS, and much better single-threaded performance are all I can really say are improvements over the FX-8350. It really doesn't feel that much different. Asus Maximus VI Impact - goodness gracious, how did Asus manage to pack so much in a 7"x7" square? Crucial Ballistix Sport 2x8GB DDR3-1600 RAM - the M6I came with the ROG RAMDisk utility, so I figured why not? Asus DirectCUII Radeon R9 290 (also stock, for now) - after putting in some custom settings for Star Swarm, I get comparatively smooth runs in both DirectX and Mantle. Other games without a hard-coded V-Sync lock show around a twofold improvement from a GTX570. Samsung EVO 250GB SSD - fast for bootup/shutdown and program execution, but other than that it's just a gimmick (but a good one at that). Western Digital Red 4TB HDD - finally, a centralized place for all the pr0n I've downloaded! Windows 8.1 - (sigh) I got that dreaded mouse bug, and I had to use a third-party fix to get the mouse to at least be bearable. Strangely enough, I didn't have that problem with my laptop despite using the same mouse. Asus VE247H 1080p monitor - not bad, but not good enough to stress an R9 290. I want to get a 1440p or 4K panel in the near future for that. Ducky Zero 2108S Cherry Black mechanical keyboard - a huge improvement from a $h!tty Gateway rubber-dome keyboard. I hope this lasts me a while. Logitech MX-518 mouse - for a mouse given to me from a friend's junk drawer, it's held up against numerous drops and even a disassembly (I was bored). Corsair Vengeance 1400 headset - great, but not $80 great. So this is more or less everything I could ever ask for in such a compact form factor. The machine was built because my younger brother wanted to get into PC gaming, so I gave him my Pathfinder build (the case being a loaner until he can buy his own case - he's looking at a CM Storm Stryker) in exchange for the RAM. Moving to this from Pathfinder brought a lot of firsts for me, including First AIO cooler First small form-factor machine First ROG motherboard, and subsequently my first personal Asus motherboard in four years (last one I had was an M4A79XTD-EVO) First Radeon card since the HD5000 series (HD5750, to be precise, also my first Asus card since then), and First Intel CPU since LGA-775 Everything was purchased from my local Microcenter, except for the Radeon R9 290 which I bought through Amazon's Warehouse Deals for a mere $330. I bought these parts not only so that I didn't have to make any major upgrades in a few years (ex: CPU/motherboard), but so I could more effectively play games and still be able to work on content creation effectively. My thoughts... uh, well, I now know how difficult it is to assemble an SFF build. Overall, I'm quite happy with it, and I think the challenge of such a form factor was worth it. Future improvements... full liquid loop, I suppose?

Things to do New CPU cooler Possibly a watercooling loop? never done this before so i guess it would make a good build log, not sure New case at the moment everything is cramped into a tiny case and it looks like spaghetti Overclocks CPU is clocked at 4.2Ghz Graphics Card at OC preset Monitor at 2560x1440 (1080p native) and 77Hz (60Hz native) Link to parts: Power Supply CPU Motherboard Monitor Graphics Card HDD - really wouldn't recommend Memory Notes I went with an i7 3770 at the time because it was about £30 cheaper than an i7 3770k and the other generations weren't out at the time. When the time comes to upgrade (next year sometime?) I'll be going with an extreme series CPU.

Right. I've been waiting a long, long time to do this build (and this build log). I've been saving up for it for almost the entirety of this summer - I started working the day after my last exam and finished working the Friday before I was due back to school. Prior to this build, I've been playing games on my dad's PS3, and a mid-2007 iMac (which plays CS:GO at 15fps on minimum settings). Anyway, enough pre-amble. On with the build log! (I would like to apologise in advance for potentially shoddy picture quality, I suck at taking photos ) Specs PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (£161.94 @ Aria PC) CPU Cooler: Corsair H105 73.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (£81.59 @ Aria PC) Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£99.56 @ Scan.co.uk) Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£68.16 @ Scan.co.uk) Storage: Crucial MX100 512GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (£147.24 @ Amazon UK) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB Dual Classified ACX Video Card (£400.73 @ Amazon UK) Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case (£87.13 @ Scan.co.uk) Power Supply: Corsair 760W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (£130.99 @ Novatech) Monitor: Dell U2414H 60Hz 23.8" Monitor (£171.98 @ Aria PC) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series SP120 High Performance Edition (2-Pack) 62.7 CFM 120mm Fans (£19.00 @ Amazon UK) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition 67.8 CFM 140mm Fan (£13.36 @ Aria PC) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition 67.8 CFM 140mm Fan (£13.36 @ Aria PC) Case Fan: Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition 67.8 CFM 140mm Fan (£13.36 @ Aria PC) Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K70 Wired Gaming Keyboard (£90.00) Other: Corsair M45 Mouse (£34.99) Other: Corsair MM200E (£22.43) Total: £1565.82 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-09-06 17:06 BST+0100 I wanted to go for some 1866MHz RAM, but neither of the places I was looking had any of the kind I wanted in stock at the time, so I went for 1600 instead. I was also going to go for the standard ACX 780, but I had some room in my budget for a Classy, so why the hell not? I'll only be playing at 1080p 60Hz for the time being, so I have absolutely no need for the power of the 900 series cards, and I didn't really want to gamble on their price and availability, so I stuck to the 700 series. Lastly, I was planning on using a CM Storm Quickfire TK, but again I had a little more room in my budget (and on my desk, since I bought a second one), so I went for my dream keyboard, the K70. Didn't bother waiting for the RGB version, I only want it to be red. The Build Mah parts! Well, most of them. In my excitement, I forgot to include some of the stuff, and the case and monitor were simply too big to fit on here with everything else. Here's a shot, taken after the build was finished, of the graphics card box, simply because it's so sexy I can't not include it Time for the test boot! I kinda forgot to take pictures of the process up until now, but you all know how it goes, right? Ohhhh man this graphics card is s-e-x-y Hey, it works! That's always good... I am liking this case already, it's so big! Sure, it's no 900D but it's still pretty roomy. Motherboard, CPU and RAM are in. This is looking pretty good so far Fans are on the rad. This took a little while to get right because a) I'm a bit anal about where the cables are going B) I found it a little hard to visualise where the rad's going to end up without installing it. I chose to put the fans on the bottom in push, since I mainly want it to look nice, that's why I spent the extra on these fans. That's the SSD in. I am liking this SSD mount, but I realised (a little too late) that you have to put the SSD in label-down, because Crucial are weird. I think I might have damaged one of the screw holes slightly trying to put it in label-up, but oh well. And the power supply's in. Took less time to install than it did to think about how to install. This is the cable management pretty much finalised. I know I should trim off that cable tie, but I haven't gotten around to it yet Front fans are installed. I found the screws pretty tiring to get in, as unfit as I am, they were pretty damn stiff once you got past the first couple turns. The rubber mounts also got a bit twisted out of their proper places, but I don't think this is too much of an issue - the fans are pretty secure in there. I've taken out the two hard drive cages, since I have absolutely no need for one yet. I might get a hard drive once I get paid again, just so I have somewhere to dump crap. For now though, I'll be sticking to my SSD. Everything's set up on my desk, time to install Windows! I'll be using a pen drive with the ISO on that a friend lent me, plus a code from G2A (because screw paying £80 when I can pay £8 ) Installing... It's done. Windows is installed, and it's all working nicely. My camera refuses to get on with the LEDs on the waterblock and graphics card, so this picture comes with extra blurriness. It's actually quite dark in there because the window is smoked, so I might get an LED strip later, I'll see how I feel. Here's a picture without the side panel, so you can actually see the red. A shot of it all set up and running. Don't worry, I only use that old monitor on the left for chat windows and MSI Afterburner, or occasionally a browser window. --- *sigh* And it's done... I finally have a (pretty badass, if I say so myself) gaming PC. I hope y'all didn't hate this thread as much as my last one
