Octane Box This build came into fruition after I realized that running 4 GPUs on air, in a rendering machine that is meant to run constantly for 24 hours at 80C was not a good idea! Being that this is my first water cooling build there were a lot of challenges, the biggest one was, getting 4 radiators (3 x 240mm & 1 x 120mm) to fit inside my Corsair Air 540. I ended cutting out the drive trays at the bottom on the case with a dremel. Fortunately for me that was the most difficult part of this rig--everything else required just a bit of planning before executing, but it was intimidating. Article at Variety. ... Do these people even understand how technology works? Or what "Resolution" even is? Seriously. This is some backwards thinking. It's like listening to a 4 year old try and tell you what is the way that things should be done. They're trying to do it in a somewhat logical way, but they lack so much information and understanding that they sound ... stupid. Maybe that's because the Movie industry does thing in fairly stupid ways? Maybe it's because they are too traditional and aren't modernizing to changing technology? And people ask why pirates exist? Because this industry is lead by people like this. Who understand nothing about how their money makers are made. This is about the only good thing I found that he said. It's mostly true. You should do what you love, but sometimes you need to relegate what you love to a hobby rather than focus on it as a profession because not everyone can be good at what they love. You get the idea. What do you guys think? Everything that's been going all lately has me fairly frustrated. People have always said the leaders were out of touch with what they lead, and honestly, I'm only beginning to realize how true that is. Either they are out of touch, or malicious in their intent (i.e. paid off). Either way, they need to be replaced in my opinion.

Recently in class we finished the Great Gatsby and now we have to write an essay on the current condition of the American dream. I've already have my opinion on this and I was just wondering what you guys think. I think that it is dead and no longer exists, but that's just me. Here's a straw poll on whether or not the dream is dead: http://strawpoll.me/1603181 If you don't think that it is dead I'd be interested to here why so comment why thanks.

I am planning to make a new computer under $1000 (This includes Windows 7, and no accessories). I want a Computer that look cool (By that i mean all colour coordinated. e.x. White & Blue or Red & black). I want this computer to be able to run games like Battlefield 4, Far cry 3, Bioshock Infinite, and Crysis 3 in the best resolutions. I am from Canada so the currency must be Canadian (obviously). No accessories. I have been using my 2-3 years old laptop, and I just thought I should get a computer, since they are obviously better than consoles (My Opinion) I want the Windows 7 as my operating system. Please help me and thanks.

Actually it was just a very vivid dream and the "End Times" are near. But, its more like an end to war, poverty, hunger, etc. Not the end of the world 'apocalypse', 'Jesus is coming back' type thing. Anyway my dream was Freaking AMAZING!!! So here's how it went down. I was sitting at the table with my mom & dad, and none other than captain Kathryn Janeway herself (Kate Mulgrew) stopped by and wanted to give us a tour of Hawaii. I know, seems odd, but stick with me. So we get into her SUV and she says 'its just a brief ferry ride to Hawaii, it won't take long'. As we're driving to the ferry port, I look up and notice..EARTH. Yeah, We were living on the friggin moon! But the surroundings looked like we were on Earth, Cities, skyscrapers, simulated oceans, etc. As we were in traffic, we ended up passing completely through a statue in the middle of the road. When I asked about it, Kate said "That was called Ghosting". Apparently, there was technology available to allow cars to 'phase' and pass through other objects without harming any passengers, which meant an end to severe & fatal car accidents. When we get to the ferry, I told everyone that I had to go pee. It took about two minutes to get to the restroom and pee, and by the time I was done, someone came in looking for me telling me that we had arrived on Earth. We get to our final destination shortly afterwards, and it was tech heaven. This is what I saw & understood... 1. Everything I was being shown was a glimpse of what was to come 100 years from now. It was essentially Utopia. No War, No Hunger, No Poverty, No Pollution, No disease, No intolerance or indifference. 2. All windows are made of a special glass that turn them into computers. Any type of media can be displayed on this glass via a bluetooth-like wristband that contained unlimited amounts of data. The glass can also display anything that is going on in the solar system in real time. If an individual wants to have privacy, the media can be transferred to a tablet device. 3. Not only was Social Networking a thing, but it was an essential part of life. Imagine what we do online now, but expanded much further. Everything was connected to your social media account. I was ecstatic to post a message to twitter about all that I had seen. Which is probably why I'm posting this dream on here. LOL 4. Gaming still existed, in the form of consoles. Now before you get all mad & upset, people built their own consoles to their own specs like we do PCs. There were no massed produced consoles and there was nothing exclusive... every game was playable on the DIY console. 5. All vehicles ran on a networked power source. No matter the size or type of the vehicle, they all had the same horsepower, Top speed, torque, etc. No idea on what the fuel for this came from or how it was made, but I do know that it was a renewable energy source. Anyway, That was the dream I had..as vivid, kooky, weird, and spectacular as it was. Not sure why I posted this, maybe I just had to write it down somewhere so I could remember it. I invite your thoughts on this.

i wish i had the money! But if i had them, why should i build this? For who is that build? Also if i want to have a supercomputer/server/work/gaming, should i build this? Like some people said titna z is for small compact but powerful builds? Why not putting a workstation card or buying a mac pro? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wJWgzy where should i cut from to fit to 4000$

I am new here and I thought I would post up my current build that I just finished the other week. I have always wanted to build a custom PC and have finally done it. Here is what I am currently utilizing. Please make note that I am not super tech savvy and only know some of the basics. I am more of a Anything-with-an-engine/Gun kind of guy. Feel free to make suggestions or tell me what I should have done. I am still learning. Case: CM Storm Trooper MB: Asus Sabertooth Processor: Intel i7 4770K Ram: 16 gb of Corsair Dominator Platinum PSU: Corsair HX 850 CPU cooling: Corsair H100i GPU: EVGA SC 780 GTX SSD: Intel 240gb 730 HDD: WD VelociRaptor 1Tb Exhaust fan: Corsair AF140 Front intake fans: Stock Lower (Optional) fans: 2Xs Corsair AF120 Optical Drive: Asus Blu-Ray drive Eye Candy: NZXT 2m RED LED kit Monitor: Asus VE278q Sound: Bose Companion 5 (They sound good to me. I have had bad experiences with Logitech speakers) Reasoning for 2 extra fans on the bottom: Because hot air rises and cold air drops, I wanted to add 2 fans that will draw air from the bottom. The 2 fans in the front push cold air over the hard drives, while the 2 on the bottom help intake cold air to be pushed across the motherboard. I also have my H100i fans pulling air from the top. I want the cooler air to be drawn across the radiator fins to provide the best cooling. It is like a car's radiator fans. You dont want to push warm air produced my your engine to run across your cooling fins. It defeats the purpose. I see a lot of people have the H100i fans set as an exhaust fan and I can never really understand why. Pics DAT SAG YO! (the only thing I really don't like about the build....) [ Thanks btg0002 for the backplate suggestion! Here is my result. DSC_1424 DSC_1433

Hello! So this is my first case mod and my 2nd time watercooling (first time was only a CPU loop) It started out with me building a new rig for BF4; FX 8350 & 2x 7870 but then AMD released the R9 290 and i just had to buy it, I started getting into Litecoin mining and "accedentally" bought another R9 290, but after a few weeks of mining with those two jet engine-ref coolers i decided it was time to do something about it! The rig started out like this; I then got my hands on a used FD Define XL for free (3€) that i decided to mod! This is what i wanted to fit in the case: Mobo: ASUS Crosshair v formula-z CPU: AMD FX-8350 @ 4.8GHz GPU: 2x Sapphire Radeon R9 290 RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz 2x4GB PSU: AX1200i (yes it is RM750 on the pics, but i have changed it since!) SSD: Kingston V300 120GB Storage: Samsung 1TB Case: Fractal Design Define XL Titanium Grey CPU block: EK Supreme LTX AMD GPU block: EK-FC R9-290X Original CSQ Nickel Mobo block: EK-FB ASUS C5F-Z Acetal Radiator1: Black Ice GTS 240 Radiator2: Black Ice GTS 240 Radiator3: Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 FC 360 Fans: Corsair SP120 Quiet Edition x7 Pump: EK DCP 4.0 Res: Phobya Balancer 250 nickel black Coolant: EK Blood Red Since the old Define XL has basically no watercooling support at all some small mods had to be done so i could fit what i wanted; A 360 rad up top and two 240 rads in the bottom chamber, i knew it would be a tight fit but i was sure it would work! Started out with a window for the side panel (still have to cut out for the bottom rad fans!) With that done, it was time to make room for that 360 rad in the roof! I grabbed my friend the dremel and went nuts! Perfect! Now it was time to start the disassembly of my rig and draining the loop. Notice the colour of the EK Blood Red coolant, it had turned into a really, really, reaaaally dark purple (Anyone knows why this happens and how to prevent this?) Poor dusty fan Remember this kids; cats + no sidepanel is a bad combination! Both cards out! Hdd cage out, time to drain the loop and remove rads. There we go! Now it was time for some waterblock mounting Ready to remove the stock heatsink! All naked Much better! Next in line: R9 290's Tools needed for this install: multibit screwdriver and a scissor. Am i the only one that loves the looks of these coolers? if only they werent so loud! All naked and dirty, dont worry my love im going to clean you up and get you a new outfit! FYI, If you are impatient, please dont attempt this as you will probably rip all your hair out trying to remove the protective films from the pads, it is a real pain in the A** Looking Good! Let's tie you up with your twin and put you where you belong! Some Cabling started and top rad mounted! this is going to look so good... Tubing started, pump and one of the bottom rads mounted! All tubes done and the 2nd rad at the bottom mounted, just barely fit! PSU PoV, super tight but it works. Not looking forward to try and empty this loop, not a good placement of that T-fitting... Getting ready to fill her up for leaktest! (Was getting super late at this time, about 3 at night so i let her run while i went to sleep!) Good Morning and no leaks! Some more pics of her up and running: Gotta love the SP120's <3 First of all, sorry about the not so perfect image quality, photos taken with my Nexus 5! I am super happy with the results, what do you guys think? Feel free to ask any questions you might have!

Hi guys i guess i should start by introducing myself. then the rig! Im Callum or karumu i'm 17 i work as an IT apprentice so minimum wage here! Most of my money recently has been going towards my pc, as i have been dreaming of making a new rig for over a year now. Now i finally have an income i can make progress towards it. My old rig was a custom build but it was aging rapidly, specs of it were Athlon II X3, Some asus am3 board, originally had a single 4gb module of ram, upgraded that a while back to 8gb corsair vengeance red, had a 1tb hdd, some crappy 750w psu (to be fair never had any trouble off of it.) and for a gpu i had the HD 5770 so not bad for a 3 year old machine, but definitely aged. So! time for my new rig! some of my parts are already bought and installed but i took pics during the process! Spec currently sit at: CPU: amd FX-8350 Motherboard: Asus Crosshair V Formula - Z GPU: Radeon HD 7850 Powercolor 1gb edition (ugh not too bad and was quite cheap) RAM: 8gb Corsair Vengeance red 1600mhz PSU: Corsair CX430 Storage: 120gb Samsung 840 EVO SSD boot drive + main games n stuff + Samsung Spinpoint F2 1TB storage drive Case: Corsair 750D Cooler: Corsair H100I Thanks guys for checking out my build log if you want me to post a pic of my actual setup, i will do! thanks Callum / Karumu UPDATE: New Spec list: FX-8350 under H110 (gonna OC tomorrow) Corsair Vengeance 8gb @ 1600 Asus Direct CUII TOP R9 270X (gonna buy a GTX 880 or 2 when they come out) Crosshair V Formula-Z XFX XTR 750W Gold PSU Samsung 840 EVO 120gb Samsung Spinpoint 1tb only new peripheral is a new AOC I2369VM IPS monitor and a Wacom CTL-480 ~Graphics tablet and some White LED's pics: Setup:

Introduction This build was a big upgrade from my last machine "Project Lion". I fancied a bit more power. This machines was my first custom water cooling build. The last one had a self-contained water cooler. But this is much better. CPU I had an i5 in my own machine but fancied a something faster. I decided to get an i7. My biggest question was 1150 socket or 2011 socket. The first problem with the 2011 is the price is more. I use my machine for 2 uses. Gaming and video editing. So I picked the i7 4770K (1150). Ram I don't rarely care about buying fancy RAM so I kept the 16GB of Corsair Value Select. Maybe one day I will upgrade it. I do fancy water cooling my RAM. Even know that it is not a crucial (if you pardon the pun). Motherboard Humm. This is a sour bit. I was not too worried about the massive specks such as where the PCI slots where fed from. But I did want things like USB3 and support for loads of RAM. I did get these met but I rearly wanted a board that supported SLI. I ended up with a Gigabyte H87-HD3. Its a nice board. Looks and technologies. But it was so hard to build due to the dodgy drivers. I had to find an old PS2 keyboard to install. PSU I again carried this over from the last machine. I don't rarely believe in spending much money on a PSU. as I don't rarely see the point. But considering how bad my last ones where I did want to spend a bit of money here. I chose the Corsair CX500M its a nice size PSU that is semi-modular and matches the build. You can't go wrong with black right? Case Wow, well I wanted it to look nice. Not saying that the last one did not. But I had to keep in mind that the watercooling would require a lot of space. In the end I went with the Fractal Design Define XL R2. Mainly because it is huge, silent and good looking. I love this case but it is so big and dose not fit under my bed very well. Storage Well this started with my existing dives. A Kingston 60GB SSD and a WD 2TB Green. This is a typical setup using a bit drive and small SSD. Changed this for a strange drive. I got a Western Digital Black2 Duel Drive. Its a nice drive but not rarely designed for a desktop. Cooling Well for my first watercooling build I wanted a nice kit. I selected the EK 240MM kit. This is a nice kit for beginners and still has it full customization GPU Started with my old one. GT 640 It is not a bad card. Gaming on it is quite nice due to the coda cores. I have now upgraded to a water cooled EVGA GTX 750. Due to more demand required and the temps of my old card at base clock is mad.

Hi, everyone! I've been wondering how I should build these 3 PCs for a while now, but I always find myself going for the overpriced stuff that kills the build (and budget). So here are some things these 3 PCs have in common: Purposes: Gaming, picture editing, music production and common home work (Microsoft Office, checking mail and browsing). Purposes can scale with budgets. Must have features: Must be able to watch videos on full HD resolution or 4K resolution with ease. Must have features can scale with budgets. Must NOT have features: Water cooling... In all honesty, I HATE water cooling. I don't like maintaining it nor cleaning the PC (I try to do PC maintainance every 1 year ,and a half, or 2) since it's a hassle for me to do. Now for the most important thing... The budgets: First PC budget: $1000.00 Second PC budget: $2500.00 Third PC budget: $5000.00 Not more, but hopefully less. Edit: Also, I think I posted this on the wrong section. Sorry about that, if someone could move it to the correct one that would be cool.

http://www.inet.se/kundvagn/visa/7056185/data-setup-ssd Is 600w enough for this? I might overclock my cpu and graphics card. (I might've put this in wrong thread/place if a mod could change this to right place and pm me where it is I would appreciate it) Edit: Forgot to mention that I will only be playing at 1080p. I wish to have my computer for ca 5 years before I get new one since this is pretty expensive for me as a 16 year old.

So im about to order my components and this is what i got so far, i will do a slight overclock ( nothing special tough) and plan on adding a 2nd graph card and 2x4gb extra RAM within a year. it will be used for Gaming and once every week rendering and maybe streaming on a daily base. Here it is: CPU:i7 4790k CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo GPU: EVGA gtx 780ti SC/ ACX RAM: 2x4gb Corsair vengeance pro 2133 mhz MOBO: MSI Z97-G55 SLI PSU: EVGA superNOVA 850 g2 HDD: Seagate barracude 1TB SSD: Samsung 840 evo 250GB CASE: Corsair Carbide 500r so i was wondering if this is a pretty solid and if there is room for improvement within the same price. im currently @ 1,505 euro ( im from the netherlands so things arent cheap here). im open for every suggestion only things i wanna keep the same is 1TB HDD and 250GB SSD i dont need more then 1tb HDD and i dont need less or more then 250gb SSD.

Hello, I've been a Mac user for just about my whole life, and with my trusty Mac Book pro about to die, I looked at getting a new one... Once I found out just how expensive a new 15" laptop would be, I decided that I'd build my own PC. I got some very useful advice for part selection: Motherboards: As long as you are getting a decent one, then its personal choice, but most of all the price premium isn't always worth it. I was recommended a cheaper motherboard, but the price difference wasn't enough to sway me (In America the difference was $50-60, here in Australia it was $15). Case: I went over board on the case, and I don't regret it. GPU: I was told to put more money into it and didn't but I'm very happy with it regardless. Processor: an I7 is not the best choice for everyone, but for me it was one of the best choices I've made. For games it makes no improvement, in every day use, same, no improvement. But for Engineering, it was worth every cent. So this is my computer. The Sapphire Dragon: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/Sapphire_Dragon/saved/LggQzy I wanted to build a masterful PC for less than a new 15" macbook pro. I have done that. Everything in this build is orange (except the GPU, thanks for the painting tips Linus, I'll be doing that soon), Orange LED fans, Orange Cables, Orange Motherboard, Orange RAM, you get the idea. Building this rig was easy, I followed a few of Linus's guides, and with in a 2 hours I had a computer. The hardest part was cable management, there are so many cables already in this case, than all all the power supply cables and orange cable extensions and you have a real mess. How ever from the front it looks amazing, and there is so much space in the back and down the bottom that it doesn't look to bad. Upon booting it I had trouble with the BIOS, it is to big for my screen, and when I try to change it to HD it tells me it cant. but by using F2 and going to the default it works fine. Everything els was breezy, it took an hour to get up an running properly, I used Nineite to get all the programs I wanted, and then started gaming. Peripherals: Mouse: Cyborg Rat MMO7, I've had this mouse for years and I love it, I've customised it to fit my hand perfectly, and i love the equivalent D-Pad button on it, as well as all of the other 6 buttons and hold click functions. Keyboard: Cyborg STRIKE 7, I wish it had mechanical keys. If it did it would be perfect, but my parents got it for me, and even with out mechanical keys I love it. The touch screen on it can be used control everything, the best thing is individual volume controls for each program. Monitor: Samsung 27" LED Monitor S27A950D. Its 120 htz, full 3D etc. etc. Its fine for me, I wish I could mount it, but it is so thin, and has no way to remove the base and no way of mounting it. Its clear as day, and I've never seen a problem with the colour, but I'm not to picky when it comes to monitors, my dad had a terrible one, so all the new ones seem amazing to me. It also takes inputs from everything, hooked up to all at once it my PC (Display port), xbox (HDMI) and my mac (DVI). PCPartPicker part list: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/CqkxRB Price breakdown by merchant: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/CqkxRB/by_merchant/ There are some discrepancies: The GPU is 4gb, and my cpu cooler is the stock intel one. This card is amazing for the Price. I'm playing Warframe at 120 fps with everything maxed. It drops to 90 in the rain, but other than that it never drops below 105. I have no complaints. CPU: I haven't started over clocking because there was a problem with my H100i so I'm using the intel stock cooler, but even with out over clocking this thing is a beast. It can handle anything thing gaming, engineering or general use that I throw at it. SSD: Get one. I can boot in 2 seconds flat. RAM: Orange glow emanating out of the bottom and orange LEDs that flow faster the more the memory is used on top, I love it. I would have liked it to be in the 1866 - 2133 htz range, but 1600 still seems fine to me. And with 16gb nothing seems to need to load. Case fans: The stock Cooler maser ones are fine, I'm using so many that they are all running at low RPM though the built in fan controler, and the system is quite. EXEPT for the Shark fans. I've had this system for a week and one has already broken, and they other seems incapable of running as a top exhaust, that are also loud, the system is near silent with them off, but annoyingly loud when they are on. I will be replacing them with more BitFenix fans. Case: I love the Cosmos II, its huge, everything fits and I have so many orange LEDs in it that it makes patters all over my roof and walls. I can't complain at all. For me, it was money well spent. Conclusion: I spent more on this computer than I should have, but It is exactly what I wanted, still cheaper than a new laptop, and when I open it up I feel a sense of pride. I love the Orange theme, everything is so clean, and its unique to me. In hind site I should have been more willing to accept advice, but non of my ideas where horrible, so I'll take the price premium because what I've ended up with is a computer the computer of my dreams. Here are some Pictures of The Sapphire Dragon Thanks for reading, fell free to let me know what you think, what my upgrades should be, or to ask questions. This was my first ever PC build, and it was awesome!

I'm just starting out figuring out what all goes into a gaming computer and I think I've got that down. Nooow I'm trying to figure out what I need compared to wha's just over priced. I do want high quality material and parts but also don't want to break the bank. Also going for high performance so I don't have to update as often. I want something that is good and will be for a while, even though things get out dated so quickly with electronics. So far I'm looking at OS: Windows 8 CPU: Intel i7 4790K - $340 Intel i5 4690K - $250 GPU: EVGA ACX Cooler Geforce GTX 780 - $530 (1 or 2? And are sound cards crucial?) Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VII Hero LGA - $212 MSI Z97 MPower LGA - $179 MSI Z97 PC Mate - $100 PSU: Corsair HX850 - $150 Corsair AX1200- $330 Hard Dive: WD Green 2TB - $85 Ram: I was thinking 16GB but how much do you think I need and any recommendations on brand? Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/ Window - $90 Corsair Graphite Series 760t - $190 SSD: Intel 730 - $220 and should I have 1 or 2? I'm so lost I don't know if any of this is compatible. Should I spend another $100 for a CPU cooler? I could REALLY use some advice on this since I don't know anyone who Knows about this

Hi. A long time ago (~5 years), I made a cluster of PCs called "Ghetto Cluster". 12 old Windows-PCs featuring Intel P4s. It worked perfectly and I was very happy, but there was a problem. About one month ago I had to move out of my (big) lab ( ). The Ghetto Cluster takes very much space (PCs, cables, switches, screens etc.) and therefore a new solution had to be created. I've already posted a picture of the debug PC for the Cluster in the Ghetto Mods thread on TechPowerUp here, where you can see my old lab in the background. You can also spot a cart, on which the PC rests. My plan is: Build the whole Cluster INSIDE of the cart. So it will be portable and I can push it around. At the moment I came up with this idea, I didn't realize how insane it was ;-) 1. The old lab (Cleaning & Packing) So as I was playing around with some settings and cleaning the lab, I decided it was time to take a break and play some games on my phone, but appearently my phone didn't like me, so this happened: F* it. Back to work... Everything packed together: 2. The actual build I'm really sorry, but I don't have as many pictures as I'd like to. So i started working, disassembling the cart, disassembling all PCs. I've figured out that only 8 PCs are gonna fit in the cart. 1 PC = 1 MoBo+1PSU(stripped)+1HDD. I took all the internals and ziptied (yes, the whole thing is held together by zipties!) them into place. No srews were harmed during the process. I've drilled holes in the wooden boards as mounting points for the zipties. The first 4 PSUs were glued into place: Beautiful those zipties! It still looks quite clean, but that will change in a moment. Now it was time to add the remaining PSUs and do all the cable management (means: zipties). I've also added the 16port switch, all ethernet cables and the first HDDs. Note: This is not, by any means, a proper way to store HDDs. You should never ever do this with any valueable hardware! (unless you use enough zipties ). Time for some testing! Great, all HDDs and PCs are working fine, airflow is still kinda possible and the noise is reasonable. Time to add the debug screen. For this I'll use zipties again. That's right, I've ziptied a LCD monitor to this cart and fixated it by using old spare metal parts from the former PC cases. Beware of the ziptie monster: Instead of painting anything, I used black insulating tape: More improper HDD mounting (WD400 from 2002, 40GB): Three other metal PC case back parts and one spare metal HDD cage act as a place to keep the debug keyboard. Its covered in duct tape, because ... duct tape (no but seriously, those metal parts have sharp edges, the tape really helps there): By the way: Old PC speakers (Beepers) are perfect for storing srews: So far, so good: This is how the carts look atm: That's it for today. I'll come back from time to time to post updates about this build. If you have any questions, please leave them here. So long! ;-) PS: Thanks SAMSUNG for sending me this much gummy bears with every test unit that I get from you
