  1. While Hynix did say last week that there wasn't any serious damage to the manufacturing equipment resulting from the fire, it seems that while the manufacturing tools themselves weren't harmed a lot of the equipment has been damaged and it's going to take months before shipments can resume. The accident happened due to the chemical vapour deposition (CVD) machinery found in the Hynix Fab complex and has resulted in some destroyed equipment contamination of the clean rooms and damage in wafer production lines. Luckily the plant makes use of a special "Gemini" architecture where clean rooms and other facilities operate independently so a certain percentage of the total production capacity can still operate. It is still uncertain when some parts of the fab can be completely restored but sources with close knowledge of semiconductor equipment have indicated that it could take as long as three-six months to completely recover. Right now hundreds of professionals and engineers are visiting the plant to try to facilitate the process. Even if production temporarily resumes, the clean up procedures, examintaion of clean rooms and machinery and reconfiguration of manufacturing settings are expected to limit the number of wafers produced for the next two months at roughly 260,000 worth of wafer production. 2. I just built a pc and I noticed the DRAM led on my Asus (A88XM-PLUS) was turned on. I saw one ram stick wasn't properly locked in. I then shut down my system and immediately locked in the ram. I've turned the system back on and the DRAM led is still turned on! I received no error messages and entered bios. Both ram sticks are correctly recognised. So why is this DRAM led still turned on?
  3. New build http://pcpartpicker.com/list/p9hcxY Got everything today after a lot of planing and price matching and the majority from micro center near me. I have done a custom build once before and consider myself to be slightly tech savvy. Put everything together to the best of my knowledge and double checked as i went through. Went to post and the DRAM LED turns on and stays solid red. So far I have replaced the RAM at the store as well as tried alternating slots 2+4 / 1+3 and confirmed my connections of wires on the motherboard. Aaaaaand I'm lost.
  4. Hi folks I need some help please, I have been experiencing unknown errors with my pc and I don't know what it is really. I was playing my pc one night, when I finished turned everything off as usual and put it to bed. Turned it on the following day and had power, but no image on screen. My motherboard (gigabyte A1x370 gaming 5) was displaying a 00 error code, looked everywhere for an answer including the manual, no joy! No beep codes to report. At this point I had taken the following step to trouble shoot: 1) Turning it off and on again 2) Booting with one stick of ram. 3) Reseated everything, cables, power cord, GPU, RAM and CPU and everything else plugged into the MB. 4) CMOS clear (pressing the button on the MB). 5) Took cmos battery out and unplugged power, left for 30mins, put battery back and turned everything on. 6) Replaced CMOS battery 7) Booted with only power cable and hdmi cable attached. 8) Put CPU in a different slot (gigabyte Nvidia 1080 8gb). 9) Checked all power cables are firmly pressed in on the MB. 10) Checked over previous steps to try and make it work. 11) Display does have power and turns on fine, and display images from other sources (ASUS VP278H-P). 12) Also cleaned out dust 13) Also reseated the MOBO to make sure it wasn't shorting on the case. At this point I thought my issue was the MOBO, so I sent it back, couldn't get same model so got an upgrade at the same price. Now have an ASUS Rog Strix 470-f gaming MOBO. Installed it and seated all components without issue. Turned it on, No IMAGE again. Everything lights up and still has power. This new MOBO now has 4 leds in the top right, that systematically checks components in the boot process. It has a solid yellow light on the board, according to the manual it is an issue with the DRAM. So I tried putting them in different config positions according to the manual, again no joy, I thought then that my RAM sticks were bust. They are Patriot Viper 2x8gb 3200Mhz PV416G320C6K This isn't on the qvl list but the 300C6K model is (3000Mhz). I had them sent back and got some brand new sticks directly from Patriot, which arrived today, I installed them without issue, and guess what. NO IMAGE ON SCREEENENN!!! ? Same yellow light on the MOBO that indecates a problem with my DRAM. So to say I'm frustrated atm is an understatement, I not sure what to now. Only last 2 things I can think off is, 1) Swap out my CPU (Ryzen 1800x), but that would mean buying a new one and I'm not sure that is the answer. 2) Sell these new ram sticks and buy some that are on the qvl list. But again the 3000Mhz model is on the list. This is my first build btw and it's been running flawlessly for 6 months now, I had the cpu over clocked slightly to 3.9GHz, and the old RAM sticks were set to an open settings, running at 2400MHz for most things but would auto boost upto it full potential at 3200MHz if needed. I realise this is a long post but I wanted to make sure I could give you guys as much info as possible. Any thoughts suggestions would be appreciated it's become a giant ball ache now. Thank you.
  5. I would like to ask for some opinions about the new g.skill royal, if you think that it is worth it. Also with the new corsair dominator platinum rgb I think the old ones non rgb will drop in price, so.... Do you have a "preferred" memory brand or kit to suggest?
  6. Hey! So I found out that only specific ram is "Ryzen compatible"... They all are about 200% of what normal dRam costs... Does that mean my DDR4 Trident Z 2x8GB CL15 3000Mhz RAM does not work when paired with a Ryzen Processor or does it just mean that it's not optimized? Thanks in advance, Elias
  7. History of crashes: I've been having a few crashing issues with my build the last several months. The last component I installed was my GPU in May-ish. I started having these crashes that were at first infrequent, but increased over time. Using the Windows "Reliability" I linked the issue with the EVGA software that I opted to use the OC Genie (I started to manually OC, realized the risk was too high, returned all settings to normal, then used OC Genie in the software). The "fix" was to uninstall the software, and to activate the OC genie via the BIOS. I had no problems linked to EVGA after that (about in August). In the last 2 weeks, my computer would randomly restart (sometimes with the sad face ":(" blue screen, sometimes not), normally when I was playing some game or watching youtube videos. I wouldn't say my computer was under any high load or anything (usually I was playing indie games or watching videos in 1080p; there was one specific instance where I was using the NVidia program to record gameplay and it crashed about 10 minutes in), but after the restart came back on, it would work fine. The Windows Reliability only stated there were Windows crashes, but no other software services that were at fault. Current event: Yesterday, I was looking through some videos I captured and re-labeling them, and then it crashed again. To me it sounded like it restarted 2-3 times, then stayed on, but did not display anything on my screen. I looked at the MoBo, and the DRAM light turns on for about 5 seconds, then turns off any time I turn the computer on. I've unattached all USB and video cables, removed my GPU, and the memory, basically leaving the storage, PSU, MoBo, CPU, CPU fan, and HDMI (and DVI to HDMI converter cord) from MoBo to moniter attached, and I get the same DRAM red light for 5 seconds. I don't have (or can't find) the cord that attaches to the part of the motherboard that would cause the beeping sound, so I have no idea what kind of beeps my MoBo would be sending. I've inserted my memory sticks one at a time or both at the same time in any combination in the 2, 3, and 4 slots (the 1st slot is blocked because of the fan), but all result in the same DRAM red light for 5 seconds. The computer "sounds" like it normally does when I start it, most of the fans are moving (except the ones connected to the CPU ports on the MoBo), there's just no display fed through to my monitor. Attempts Made: I've googled and looked at a few solutions on this site and the above is what I've tried so far. I feel like there's something broken, but I want to try to be as efficient as possible, as I don't have a ton of money right now, and would not like to replace something I didn't have to. I don't have spare known-to-be-working RAM, so I haven't tried that. I wanna believe it's the RAM, but I just feel like the likelihood that both would die simultaneously is low. Then again, maybe one of them was dead for the last 2 weeks? Perhaps MoBo? Hopefully not the CPU... Highly doubt PSU (should have lots of Watts) or GPU (still won't boot after I took it out). God forbid multi-failing situation. Specs Here is a link to my current parts list, in case it helps. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LbVp4C CPU: i5-6600k 3.5Ghz MoBo: MSI Z170A PC MATE LGA1151 RAM: Ballistix Sport 2x4GB DDR4-2400 GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB SSD Storage: 850 EVO 250GB HDD Storage: Barracuda 1 TB 5900RPM Case: Corsair 200R ATX PSU: Thermaltake 750W 80+ Gold Thank you so much for taking the time to look at this. 9. It's been a hard time on memory makers with selling as much memory as they can produce, however a new class action lawsuit out of the US District Court for Northern California is asserting that Samsung, Hynix & Micron have been price-fixing DRAM prices. According to the lawsuit, the companies actions have resulted in 4 GB DRAM prices increasing 130% from July 2016 thru February 2018, while the companies more than doubles their revenue between Q1 '16 and Q3 '17. It is also alleged that even though DRAM prices more than doubled during that time period, the production costs did not increase and there have been no process changes to justify the price increases. https://hothardware.com/news/samsung-hynix-and-micron-dram-class-action-suit-collusion ... If the Hagens Berman name sounds familiar, it’s because it was the firm responsible for securing the aforementioned $300 million settlement against Samsung and Hynix. So, it has the experience in this type of litigation and the investigative know-how to see this case through to its eventual resolution. “What we’ve uncovered in the DRAM market is a classic antitrust, price-fixing scheme in which a small number of kingpin corporations hold the lion’s share of the market,” said Steve Berman, who serves as managing partner at Hagens Berman. “Instead of playing by the rules, Samsung, Micron and Hynix chose to put consumers in a chokehold, wringing the market for more profit.” While I think there may be a grain of truth behind the case, I'm not sure how much traction it will get since memory is definitely in high demand and iirc these companies have also been working to open up new Fabs which have associated costs that might not be accounted for in this lawsuit. Either way, it should be interesting and maybe we'll see DRAM prices drop a small bit.
  10. Well been messing with overclocking for about two weeks now on and off to reset defaults and I think I finally fixed it here are photos from a 20 minute test I did twice. As well as the benchmark test which takes as long as it needs to my score was 1438. Is that good? Anyone know memory OC too? I'm looking in to that now as well how to set it up correctly as well. If my CPU is good to go at 5.0GHz As well I didn't touch anything but cpu multiplier and vcore and offset. How about this AVX offset I left it default which on my board (Z170 classified k) is 3. Vdroop fine on default? I'm new to overclocking & my first build. Just want to make sure I'm doing this Overclocking the right way. One question opening certain programs jumps my temp to 4(x)c sometimes 5(x)c from idle 32c. Is that normal? I use this PC for recording gameplay and editing videos and rendering which is the most reason I want 5.0Ghz so It'll be quicker than ever before. My old PC used to take 14 hours (that's right and true) to render an hour video. Photos of stress test today at 5.0GHz Vcore on auto with a offset of +75 temps never hitting over 70c. Yesterday at 4.8GHz hitting around 78c-83c with a lower Vcore (I thought this was quite weird) Tried again 5.0 at 1.335V though when testing 1.363 & 1.381 it said was the fluctuates of vcore for the temps for prime95 v26.6 test was 79c-80c. I say cause it passed the 640k test then was trying to do its 8k test temps went above 90c.
  11. So , I got my build 3 days back . R5 1600 Asus B350F Strix Trident Z F4-300C16D-16TZR [Fresh installed windows , got latest drivers , bios and all. Now , I wanted to OC , as I am using stock cooler , did not really want to push the cpu too high , so decided on modest 3.7Ghz with an offset of 0.0625v. Now , when I used the D.O.C.P memory settings it set the timings on its own , and set the voltage to 1.35 v , but , i was not able to boot at all , boot loop and then POST to safe mode , bios and use default settings , the highest I could get with the DOCP settings was 2400mhz and sometimes 2666mhz as well , but 2666 failed to boot sometimes. But, I wanted to go to 2933mhz , as my RAM was rated at 3000mhz. So , I decided to crank up the voltage to 1.37 , and that worked. No bootloops, even ran aida 64 stress test for 2 hours , no crash. So , I just want to know is 1.37v on my ram safe? As , the tested voltage is 1.35. Also , what are the max voltage that one can safely go to?
  12. So I'm totally at a loss here. CPU - i7-580k Mobo - X99-Pro RAM - Dominator Platinum DDR4 16GB 2666 (Quad Channel Kit) (CMD16GX4M4A2666C16) - Checked, this IS on the QVL. - I am running all DIMMs in the correct config, I read dat manual, don't worry. Now to the story: I ran memtest a few days ago, because I suspected something was wrong with one of my DIMMs. Since I built my PC a year ago, occasionally only three of four sticks would be detected by BIOS or by Software like CPU-Z. Weird stuff that I thought nothing of at the time. Usually a different XMP profile, or different overclock for my CPU solved the issue (no idea why). I ignored it, as I wasn't ready to deal with the fact that there was wonky s**t going on with a PCI had just built. A year later (now) I finally got around to running memtest with all four sticks in their proper places -> I got 6000+ errors before the test crashed. I began removing individual sticks to see which one was the culprit. T Take 1 of 4 dimms out, run with 12GBs, get errors. Take the next of four dimms out, run with 12GB, get errors. Take the third of four dimms out, run with 12GBs, no errors, BUT BIOS only detects 8GB of RAM (wtf? how does that make sense) ----So I mark the dimm that I removed in that last test as the one producing errors. I assume this stick is the culprit. Still doesn't explain why I now have 12GB in my system, and why only 8GB is detected. Test the stick I assume is the culprit with one other dimm (8GB installed, 8GB recognized), and I get zero errors now. I'm totally at a loss here. Now I'm into testing sticks in dual channel at the moment. Have not done single channel tests yet. (I guess proper testing would mean I test each of my four sticks in EVERY DIMM slot, right? Meaning 32 tests I need to run total. (But at 3~ hours per test, thats a LOT of time I don't have.) The reason I am concerned: I've been reading around the internet, and have come to the conclusion that the only acceptable Memtest result is 0 Errors (right?). So I've no idea what's going on. Anyone have any ideas? I'm this close to just RMAing both my motherboard and RAM at the same time, just to see if that clears everything up. Pardon the wall of text, but thanks for the help.
  13. So I'm getting my build together and have only a few more parts to order before I'm finally done. For the most part I was going to go with the M5A99FX PRO R2.0 from ASUS until I realized that the PCI x 16 slot is so close to the first PCI x 1 slot; but, then I found out there was another version the EVO R2.0. Now it's not the best for crossfiring but I don't intend to crossfire any time soon seeing as this is my first build. Any ways, the board supports up to 1333, 1600, 1866, 2133 DRAM. ( http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/M5A99X_EVO_R20/specifications/ ) But here's where my problem starts. I got a good deal on a pair of G-Skill Ripjaws X series 2133 MHz 2x4 gb kit. So I hopped on that sucker and thought nothing of it. Seeing as the board supports up to 2133 mhz. Now as a newbie I stumbled upon ASUS "QVL" and got worried till I poked around a few forums. This relieved me but I remember G-Skill had a calculator for if their ram was good on that mobo or not. As far as the EVO R2.0 goes, their Ripjaws series is supported but only up to 1866 MHz... So I guess the question is that will it work? I've tried finding things relevant with the EVO R2 but to no avail. Wondering if I should try the sticks out or just send them back for the 1866 MHz when they come in. Just needing advice on it from someone more knowledgeable. Thanks for helping if you do!
  14. So this new memory called NRAM (nonvolatile RAM) is said to be hundreds of times faster than SSDs claimed by companies CEO. These nanotubes are better conductors of electricity than other known materials used in chips. NRAM operates at speed of DRAM and it's nonvolatile, which means it can store data. The storage chips will consume significantly less power than DRAM. It's also durable such as extreme temperatures. Company called Nantero won't make NRAM but license the technology. The first NRAM chips will appear as DRAM-compatible modules that can be plugged directly into memory slots on motherboards. “We are designing chips that are DDR3 and DDR4 compatible, you just put in carbon-nanotube memory”. The technology will be compatible with storage, memory systems and protocols that exist today. The NRAM chips should arrive in the next few years. ___ This looks promising tech and a great leap in all around improvements such as performance, durability, power consumption. While no numbers were given, they state how superior it is compared to todays tech and good thing is that it's showing to be quite versatile for different usage. Some more details about development of memory and other are in 'source'. Source
  15. Hi!! My memory is always showing 80% plus without doing anything. I have attached screenshots of what applications are running at the time through the task manager. please help me
  16. Hi everyone! I am new to customizing computers and had a quick question regarding a build I am working on. I am gathering parts for a mid-level $1300 build right now and have decided to go with the 6GB Twin Frozyr OC R9 280x graphics card from MSI. The card was on sale for about the same price as the 3GB card so I decided to pick it up. It, according to the benchmarks and reviews I have seen, will suit my current gaming needs however, I may decide to pick up another card and crossfire it should the need arise in the future. My question for you guys is, are the 3GB and 6GB cards compatible for crossfire? Or would I need to get a second 6GB card for them to be crossfired? (Note: I am not as familiar with crossfire functionality as I am with SLI so don't judge!). Many Thanks, -a new guy
  17. To start some specs: - mobo: G1.Sniper Z87 (rev 1.1) - cpu: i5 4670k (running stock) - mem: 8GB G.Skill Sniper DDR3 1866 MHz (running @ 1600MHz) - psu: Corsair AX860 - gpu: GTX 780Ti - storage: Samsung 250GB 840 EVO SSD + Seagate 2TB + 3TB - os: Windows 8.1 Alright, first of all I'm running my memory at 1600MHz. That's what my mobo automatically set it at. When I manually set it to 1866MHz, I get instability by way of "insufficient memory" pop-up in Windows. Also to make note, I was getting these errors from playing games like Hawken and Castlevania:LOS. But these two 4GB sticks are advertised at 1866MHz, yet out of box run best at 1600MHz. Seems a bit strange to me, can't be right can it? (Solved by PassionFruit) But, I'm still getting more "insufficient memory" pop-ups than I'd like running 8GB @ 1600MHz. I've noticed that I'll get these pop-ups when I run MAGIX Movie Editor Software 2014 and DayZ. The video software I can understand since it's video editing software. But, software specs say recommended memory size is 4GB with a min of 1GB. I'm running 8GB, but I understand the "standard" for an editing rig should be 16GB. But still, should I be getting "insufficient memory" windows from just editing 10-20 mins of video with no sound, minor color correction and small simple transitions? With DayZ Standalone, yeah it's beta and I'm sure there are memory leaks or unoptimised and it's really the only game I had errors with. Although just today (March 2nd, 2014), I got the memory errors with a total system crash just from downloading Assassin's Creed 4 and Far Cry: Blood Dragon. That's all I had open! Ubisoft's Uplay to download these two games and crash?? That just doesn't add up. I've also noticed that when I have just windows open, like from a fresh boot, 30-50% of my memory is already taken up. I feel like I'm having some strange memory things going on and just want to reach out to the forum to see if anyone has run into anything like this. I was thinking about getting different memory from a different company to see if there is any change, but that won't be for another week. Any help would be great, thanks ~
  18. SK Hynix, the world's 2nd largest memory manufacturer, operates DRAM lines in Icheon, flash-type NAND chips in Cheongju and mobile DRAMs in Wuxi, China. With the factory in Wuxi coming back up to capacity following the September fire and the addition of new factories being built in Icheon we can, I hope, look forward to a significant drop in RAM & SSD prices in the future. 19. Hi Guys, I've been having trouble with blue screening lately, even after a fresh install of windows 7. Currently I am running 16GB of ram. Its a mixture of Kingston HyperX Genises (2 x 4GB) and Corsair Vengeance LP Low Voltage (2 x 4GB). I am wondering if I can mix these two kits which operate at different voltages, 1.5v and 1.35v. Prime95 has been running for the past 24 hours testing 15.5GB and has thrown up no errors so far. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
