  1. After recently trying to upgrade my PC's mobo and ram I have not been able to post. Even after recently going back to my old mobo which I know works (as the upgrade was not purchased new) and I have to jump start the computer to start it with both motherboards with 2 different cases as the power buttons will not start the computer. When it does jump start, all of the fans turn on and the motherboard lights up too although on both motherboards no signal is passed to my monitor and the DRAM light is shown as red constantly. Any help would be great as I've been stressing over this for a few days and can't seem to find an answer online. 2. Hey! I was using my computer just fine until yesterday when suddenly it turned off on it's own. I tried to turn it on back but the bios screen would flash and it would turn off again. Mind you, my fans and gpu are running just fine...it's not like the computer is off....Its not posting anything onto display.....Thats when I notice that two led on my motherboard are flashing : 'cpu' and 'dram' alternatively. Now its not even showing the BIOS screen I tried removing my ram and reinserting.....when that didn't help i cleared the cmos too but to no avail. I have no idea what happened suddenly. 3. I saw the Techquickie "What Are DRAM-less SSDs" and realized that the ssd I just got the a400 Kingston 240GB does not have a DRAM cache. good thing is I didn't open it yet and I can upgrade it to a WD Green ssd for 10$ more, now the WD green also does not have a DRAM cache but it does have SLC caching so is worth he upgrade or is there no real difference between the WD Green and the a400.
  4. I recently tried to install a new i9 9900k in replacement for my i5 9600k to which every time I would boot the system, I would get past the bios screen and windows would begin to load but fail. My first boot looked promising as it detected a new cpu and once it told me to set it up in the bios, it displayed the right frequency and everything. I’ve tried numerous layouts with my ram sticks, to no avail, and I tried putting my i5 back into my pc and it booted into windows just fine. Sometimes it would tell me that it’s “preparing automatic repair” but freezes every time. I’m not sure if it’s shorting anywhere because of how it booted fine with my i5 put back in the system. I’ve reset the bios numerous times and tried messing with the ram speeds not exceeding their rated speed. Motherboard lights: Every time I tried turned on the system, the cpu light and dram lights would blink in some way (cpu first), followed by a short blink of the vga light and the boot light would hold until the system inevitably froze. Changing the ram amounts and sticks themselves caused the dram light to blink for various lengths of time every boot; I didn’t record a pattern.Current specs (excluding processor)Z390e gaming motherboardRtx2080 ftw316gb trident z rgb 3200mhzKraken x72 aio Nvme ssd1tb hdd 80+ gold Corsair 850 psuI don’t know if I’m just very unlucky or have a bad cpu, but I would love suggestions on how to fix this issue; or assurance that it is a bad cpu and that I should get it replaced
  5. I have a question. In bios I set my dram to stock 3200 14.14.14.34, but ryzen master and cpu-z both show my timings are at 16.16.16.(can't recall the last number but it was higher than 34) could they just be showing incorrect readings? Is there another software I can check it on, or do I need to do something different in bios? They both show my speed to be correct. Also, how I set in bios was I manually set the speed to 3200, then opened up docp(I think that's the acronym) to apply the xmp profile, there was only one available 3200mzh 14.14.14.34. I'm using trident z neo with stock ratings at that speed and timing. Ryzen 5 3600, rx590, trident z neo 3200 cl14 (14.14.14.34), Asus rog crosshair viii hero x570
  6. His is my first pc build and I have got everything working except my graphics card is not spinning and the memory should light up to show that it is on( the sticks) but they aren’t. I don’t know if the graphics card is plugged in correctly but I assume it is because it lights up but the main light is blinking red. I don’t know if this is a feature or if it bad because the other lights to the side are normal. And the ram sticks are fully pushed in I have tried them in each slot. It will not get a signal on the monitor.
  7. Hello everyone! Yesterday I built my new computer and I have been troubleshooting the issue with dram led since then. I suspect I have a bad mobo, but idk. When I boot the computer I see the cpu fan and case fans nicely turn on, theres light on the mobo and ram stick, and the dram led is on aswell as the mobo power light. Specs: - x470-f motherboard - AMD r53600x - Corsair CMK32GX4M2D3200C16 (not at qvl list) - G.SKILL F4-3200C16D-16GTZR (idk if ..16GTZ(XMP) is the same) - Seasonic 850 +80 gold PSU I think theese parts are the only one of interest to this issue. I imagine ive set up everything as it should, doublechecked all the cables (yes the cpu/psu cable is connected), tried both of the different ram sticks in every slot, booted without ram, and redid the cpu (all the pins looked fine). I unfortunately dont have a system speaker avaible. I've tried to boot the build with all parts connected and only the nescessary (cpu + ram), but the dram led is still on. I have no idea whats the issue and I prefer to fix this myself as if i send it to the retainer I have to wait like ten days or so Any help are greatly appreciated!

    No Boot

Hey, I cleaned my pc yesterday (took it apart, dusted it) and tried a new cooler (but it has plastic straps that don't fit on the backplate for a screwing cooler, but i cant find the other backplate that doesn't have threads) put in an EK m.2 on my NVME drive and put everything back. Now the pc won't boot. - I have tried different RAM configurations and new RAM sticks - The CPU gets hot (i booted for half a sec without cooler to check) - tried mobo video output and i tried without graphics card - CMOS battery is fine,i tested it. But if i take it out an boot, there is nothing different. When i boot, all fans start spinning like a normal boot, the rgb and led's turn on. Everything seems to work properly but i never get and video output. Mobo is msi mpg z390 gaming edge ac, the ez debug leds show RAM all the time, CPU turns in for a blink and then back RAM
  9. So I just built my first PC a couple of days ago and everything was running fine with no issues. Three days later in the middle of me using it the display cut out and I got the Yellow Led on my motherboard indication an issue with my DRAM. However I know my Ram is compatible with my motherboard and It was working in the first place. I switched the slots of ram and pulled the power from the motherboard. Doing so my display cut back on, however it would only do so for a while before the motherboard gives me the yellow LED again. Please help me. What could be the issue. Specs- ASUS rog Strix 470 f gaming -MSI Geoforce gtx 1060 6gb -AMD Ryzen 5 2600 - Corsair Vengence LPX 16GB DDR4 2400
  10. Hi! I bought upgrades for my computer, but the yellow light keeps flashing. It's stuck in POST at ram check. I've tried with 3 sets of ram, changed motherboard and tried with another psu. Of course, it could be the cpu, but it seems the check doesn't get as far as cpu check. Have you guys been through this?
  11. Hello, i’m new to pc building and I’ve been having this issue for the last week now where my motherboard won’t start up. The POST led for dram is lit up solid and it flashes back to cpu for less than a second. I have replaced the cpu, the motherboard and the ram with one that is on gigabytes compatibility list and it’s still having the same issue. Does anyone have any insight to this? parts list: gigabyte x470 Aorus gaming plus mobo amd Ryzen 5 3600 cpu hyperx 16gb 2666 nvidia rtx 2060 super founders edition sabrent m.2 256gb storage 2tb firecuda hdd I’m sorry if this has already been asked, new to the forum?
  12. https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-begins-mass-production-of-industrys-first-12gb-lpddr5-mobile-dram-for-premium-smartphones https://www.phonearena.com/news/Note-10-release-Samsungs-12GB-16GB-DDR5-memory_id117553 Apparently Samsung phones might get LPDDR5. It's kind of nice to see DDR5 actually happen after years of waiting. Although it's also sad that my computer ram is now 2 whole generations behind a bloody smartphone lol. I really can't wait to actually have DDR5 PC RAM, but it probably won't happen for a year or so.
  13. So I'm well aware that DRAM caches are important for the performance of an SSD, but I'm having trouble finding a way to tell if an SSD has a cache. As an example, in the "No Dollar Wasted Build Guide" that LTT uploaded a while back they mention that this WD Blue SSD has a DRAM cache. However, no where on WD's product page, WD's full spec sheet, the Amazon listing, or the Newegg listing is there any mention of "DRAM" or "cache". Am I just looking for the wrong terminology on these pages or is whether or not an SSD has a cache just not typically listed? Thanks in advance.
  14. i've bought a new components for my system: CPU - i5 8600k 3.6GHz CPU cooler - Arctic Freezer 33 eSports Edition Red Motherboard - Asus ROG STRIX Z370-I RAM - HyperX FURY Red 2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL18 Kit GPU - Gigabyte GeForce 1050Ti 4GB SSD - Samsung 860 EVO M.2 MZ-N6E500BW 500GB all completely new except the GPU my problem is that on the motherboard the DRAM error led is always on all the components seem to work prefectly but there is no display at all Help??
  15. Hello, so I got completely new rig. But I got BSOD when I play for 5 mins. I reinstalled win 10, drivers and bios is up do date. Tried everything until I did memtest64. When installed both rams I did memtest and got errors. Yesterday u got like 714 errors with both. specs are: i7700k msi z270l gaming carbon pro ac gskill trident z 16gb 2400mhz 2x8. EVGA 600w non modular psu.So I ran the memtest on both rams one by one and there was no errors. I ran them for 20 mins each , usually the errors occurred after 5 mins with them both together. Both was tested on the same slot, so the must be fine. And when I wanted to test the other slot I realized that the 24 pin connector is pushing the ram aside softly maybe 5° (not hardly). The backside of the 24 pin is a bit thick and the ram modules are also thick. PSU EVGA 600w non modular and drams are gskill trident z. Do you guys think this is the problem ? I haven't tested this slot alone yet but I think the connector may interfere the rams ?Thank you
  16. source: http://www.anandtech.com/show/10751/gen-z-consortium-formed-developing-a-new-memory-interconnect what is Gen-Z? Gen-Z Consortium is a non-profit group tasked at creating a new open standard memory interconnect that's aimed at treating "memory" as RAM and storage at the same time (much like Micron's 3DXpoint) - a new connector, hardware logic and transfer protocol the data transfer speed for this new specification will be higher than 100MB/s, and initial specs will be finalized by end of this year who's part of Gen-Z? this new technology is aimed at server and data centers, it's not clear if this will be aimed at PCs - if so, it will be a long way before it actually happens --- this is big money and Intel might (certainly will) fight this new standard; Intel accounts for ~90% of server chips shipped when asked why Intel didn't joined, their reply was: Intel's OmniPath will be the direct competitor for this upcoming tech
  17. I am currently looking for a SSD to buy and I’ve got my eye on the Kingston A400 and the Crucial MX500. I was wondering if it was worth the extra money to go for the Crucial MX500. How much faster will boot times and program loading times be? I’m going to be putting it in a gaming PC for programs and my OS. Any help is appreciated.
  18. Hello. I overclocked mine Ryzen 3 1200 to 3.7GHz at 1.256V set in bios *didnt touched ram* and I am stress testing atm. I saw something really strange in HWMonitor, it is showing that the DRAM Voltage is 1.976V and even hits 2V could that be even correct. Are my other voltages ok? *This picture is while watching a twitch stream and stress testing with prime95 (small)* (Sorry for mine trash grammar)
  19. Ok, so you know how there has been a trend with motherboards and CPU's to move all the extra chips into the CPU package? there's a CPU, GPU and North bridge in there, and the CPU has small amounts of RAM in there. I was thinking, more towards Intel but AMD could also do it, putting a small amount of storage on there (optane for Intel.) that you could put a Windows installation on (or any OS) that would be ridiculously quick because it's right there on the CPU, pretty much nothing else would be able to fit but you'd have some amazing boot times.
  20. Nantero Exits Stealth: Using Carbon Nanotubes for Non-Volatile Memory with DRAM Performance & Unlimited Enduranceby Kristian Vättö on June 11, 2015 12:35 PM EST http://www.anandtech.com/show/9314/nantero-exits-stealth-using-carbon-nanotubes-for-nonvolatile-memory-with-dram-performance-unlimited-endurance Synopsis - NRAM = (the speed of DRAM + storage capabilities of NAND) with Higher Density than NAND or DRAM, unlimited 3D stacks and MLC capabilities, 100 billion write cycles, 1000 years storage at 85C. It can be manufactured in standard CMOS facilities. The IP licensed to anyone. Scheduled to arrive 2017/18. Result - No difference between memory and storage - Imagine the possibilities: What sort of graphics you can have with the entire game loaded onto latest Nvidia/AMD card instead or 6, 8 or 12GB of memory on board? Instant on computers, that cannot lose your data unless specifically wiped? Completely new orders of computing that are currently to expensive/impossible to build Excerpts from articl "The way NRAM works is in fact relatively simple. Essentially there are two nanotubes, which have low resistance when in physical contact and high resistance when separated. The amount of resistance then determines whether the cell is considered to be programmed as ‘0’ or ‘1’. Program operation (or “SET” as Nantero calls it) works by applying a voltage on one of the nanotubes, which will then attract the other nanotube and create a bond. The SET operation is very fast and takes only picoseconds, which is on par with or better than DRAM latency. The bond is kept in tact by Van der Waal's interactions and is practically immortal with data retention terms even in 300°C is over ten years. In an erase operation (or RESET as Nantero calls it) the voltage is simply applied in the other direction, which will “heat up” (given the scale it’s more like vibration) the nanotube contacts and cause them to separate. Given that carbon nanotubes are one of the strongest materials in the world, the write/erase endurance is practically infinite as independent university study has shown Nantero’s NRAM technology to have over 1011 P/E cycles (for your information, 1011 translates to 100 billion)." "The other great news is that carbon nanotubes are extremely small. One nanotube can have a diameter of only 2nm and the pitch between the two nanotubes in off-state can be an even tinier 1nm, so the technology has potential to scale below 5nm. NRAM can also scale vertically, or go 3D, and since the cell structure and manufacturing process are both quite simple, 3D stacking should, in theory, be much easier compared to what 3D NAND is today with no need for high aspect ratio etching as an example. The Manufacturing ProcessThe process of making an NRAM wafer starts by taking a normal CMOS wafer with the normal cell select and array line circuitry, which is then spin coated with carbon nanotubes. Carbon nanotubes are grown from iron that would normally contaminate a clean room, thus Nantero had to develop a patented process that creates ‘pure’ carbon nanotubes with less than one out of billion particles being foreign (the standard for the highest quality clean rooms). Nantero has worked hard in the past two years to bring the cost of carbon nanotubes down and currently the company says that the nanotubes have a negligible impact on chip cost, meaning making NRAM isn't inherently more expensive than any other semiconductor." "With the nanotubes on the wafer, the top electrode is deposited on top of the nanotubes, followed by the photoresist, which is then patterned using a single mask. Finally the wafer is etched to cut the nanotubes into smaller pieces (i.e. more memory cells) and that’s it in a nutshell. Obviously there are other general semiconductor processing steps involved, but those are the same for all memory technologies, so the fundamental process of manufacturing NRAM isn’t that complex. All that is needed is a normal CMOS fab because the NRAM process requires no special or additional tools." "Fortunately, NRAM isn’t just a technology that exists on paper. Nantero’s NRAM process has already been installed in seven production CMOS fabs ranging from 20nm to 250nm and limited production has been taking place for several years now, although only in small few megabit capacities. As a matter of fact, Nantero completed a successful space test with NASA on Space Shuttle Atlantis back in 2009 where NRAM operated without any shielding throughout the trip without any errors despite the intense radiation, because as I mentioned earlier, the nanotube bonds are practically unbreakable and are not affected by heat, magnetism, radiation and the like. Nantero’s Business Plan: Bringing NRAM to EveryoneBecause Nantero is an IP licensing company, it relies solely on its partners for production. It's a logical strategy because a decent sized fab requires an investment in the order of billions of dollars and in the end the company would have to compete against Intel, Samsung and the rest of the semiconductor giants. Actual end products will be sold under the manufacturer's brand (e.g. Intel), so you won't see any Nantero branded products on the market. Nantero isn't disclosing any of its partners at this point as most of them are still developing products that have the potential for higher volume production. While Nantero has its own chip team that is developing high capacity (several gigabits) dies, every partner is also doing its own work to implement NRAM at a larger scale, which makes sense given that the big semiconductor companies have far more resources and are familiar with high capacity memory devices. Aside from semiconductor companies, Nantero has also partnered with several more consumer-facing companies to develop concepts and products around NRAM technology. Since NRAM provides the same level of performance as DRAM but is non-volatile, NRAM could open the doors for products that aren't achievable (at least properly) with today's NAND and DRAM technology. As examples Nantero mentions 3D smartphones and commercial 3D printers (although to be frank both already exist to some extent), but practically anything that's handicapped by IO performance and volatility can be fixed with NRAM in the future." " Since it will take several years before NRAM is even close to modern NAND capacities, Nantero has a three step strategy of bringing NRAM to the market. In the first step Nantero is simply offering a class of memory (both standalone and embedded) that has DRAM's performance characteristics and NAND's non-volatility. Technically that means NRAM is competing against current MRAM and ReRAM products for a specialized niche market that really needs high performance and non-volatility. The consumer market is obviously not one of those and even for the enterprise NRAM is likely too small capacity and expensive, but the industrial and especially space/military applications should benefit from NRAM despite the high initial cost. The next step is to grow NRAM to gigabit-class capacities and offer a non-volatile alternative to DRAM. Going to gigabit-class certainly opens the doors for NRAM as a mainstream memory because it could be used for a variety of caching applications that benefit from non-volatility (SSDs with their DRAM caches for NAND mapping table are a prime example). Tape out of first gigabit NRAM wafers is still about 18 months away, so I would expect to see something shipping perhaps in late 2017 or 2018. The final step, of course, is a terabit-class die to replace NAND (FYI, Samsung is projecting 1Tbit NAND die in 2017). Achieving that requires work on both lithography scaling and 3D integration technologies because such a high capacity die is only economical with either multiple layers or advanced lithography, or both. NRAM also has the potential to operate in MLC mode for further density improvements, but for now Nantero is focusing on scaling NRAM down and adding layers through 3D to increase density. Once the work on those two is done and has been implemented to a production fab, Nantero will start commercializing NRAM MLC technology, but that is likely at least several years away. Final WordsThe announcement is intriguing to say the least. From a technology standpoint NRAM sounds very exciting because it's effectively bringing us non-volatile DRAM performance, and better yet the cell design is scalable whereas DRAM has major struggles going below 20nm. I like the fact that Nantero has decided to go with IP licensing model because it means that NRAM is a technology available to everyone. The reason why DRAM and NAND are where they are today is because there are multiple companies producing them, resulting in competition with billions of R&D dollars. I wonder if any of the big semiconductor companies has partnered with Nantero yet. Most of them have been tight-lipped about their post-NAND plans, but maybe Nantero's announcement will sooner than later force the companies to talk about their strategies. Obviously a lot depends on how far 3D NAND can efficiently scale, but from what I have heard the transition to next generation memory technologies should begin around 2020. The future of memory isn't here yet, but it's certainly getting closer and it will be interesting to see what technology ends up taking the crown."
  21. Hi all, I'm trying to understand the occurring of the memory scene. I am very new to this but this stuff sounds quite fascinating. I recently read several articles on it, and I'm trying to put together a coherent picture. To my best understanding, Samsung, Sandisk, Toshiba, SK Hynix and Micron are pretty much the largest supplies of (not sure of correct terminology, NAND controllers or NAND memory?), with Samsung being top, followed by Toshiba and Sandisk, making up the top 3. - my question here is what is the obvious differences in design/output/read/write among them, in layman terms? Recent developments include the RRAM technology, which in short provides a highly improved benchmark results. - Who's behind it? - How do they compare to those PCI-e SSDs? If I got something wrong on the concepts/etc, please do enlighten me. Thanks guys!
  22. Well, new motherboard, new cpu are just a pile of silicon at the moment because the ruddy thing doesn't boot. it's stuck on the DRAM led. According to Asus self diagnosis the RAM isn't compatible with the mobo. but i just bought new RAM in the hopes that that was the bloody problem! And it still won't boot! it's an Asus Sabertooth Mark 1, with a i7 4790k. Anyone have a clue? cause i'm guessing defective mobo. thanks for your help. and memok! bios flash, and cmos clear don't seem to help... edit: old RAM was the vengeance 16Gb kit cmz8gx3m2a1600c9, these were NOT officially supported. new RAm is the kingston KHX2133C11D3K4/16GX , these are listed as officially supported both in the manual and the asus website. neither of these work. When i put even one stick in, no beeps form the system speaker no Boot and stuck on DRAM LED. Without RAM, i get the beep code for no ram detected.
  23. I can't find any other reported cases of this anywhere. As stated, when I boot my computer up, the DRAM LED flashes for just a quick second, but everything boots up normally. No crashes, freezing, errors, and everything seems to be stable. All the memory is being detected fine and windows memory diagnostic didn't detect any problems. Ran Prime95 for several hours, no issues. I tried putting the memory in different slots and loosening some of the motherboard standoff screws (some people reported this causing the DRAM LED to show yet there was nothing wrong), but it's still going off on startup. 24 pin mobo connector seems to be connected fine, same with the CPU connector. Had a stable overclock of 4.2GHz (@1.15v), so I tried resetting all the BIOS settings to default just in case that was causing issues, still getting the LED. I'm also updated to the latest BIOS version. Specs: CPU: i5 3570k (currently @stock speed) Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V LK (BIOS version 1402) RAM: 8GB (2x4GB) G.SKILL Ripjaws X (@1600Mhz - 1.5v (stock voltage)) GPU: Gigabyte Windforce GTX 770 (2GB) PSU: Corsair RM650 OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) To recap: My motherboard's DRAM LED goes off for a quick second on startup but I'm experiencing no problems. I literally can't find any issues or errors, should I just ignore it? I can buy new memory if it's really needed, although I was hoping to put that money towards a new hard drive.
  24. Source:http://www.tweaktown.com/news/34549/samsung-unveils-8gb-lpddr4-mobile-dram-could-lead-to-4gb-smartphones/index.html I have a Nexus 7 2012 version which has 1GB of ram and I never use it up. It would need alot of applications open to fill it up and I don't think 64bit processors won't take alot of ram. Great that Samsung is developing to create great hardware for their own smartphones.
