I built a PC for the first time last week. It's all up and running, and it works, to my relief. But something I've noticed is that when I turn my PC on, the motherboard's VGA LED light and the DRAM LED light blink red. I've done a quick google on this and it seems it's to do with a faulty/dead GPU (VGA), and improperly seated/faulty RAM (DRAM). The thing is, I get an excellent display with good graphics and the RAM is detected with no problem. Another conclusion is, I could have not plugged in certain cables right, as I was extremely cautious and didn't put much force into it, fearing I could break something if I did. If anyone has any solutions to this, or things I could try to fix it, I don't even know if I have to because the PC is working fine.

JesusTouchMe posted a topic in Troubleshooting
It's exactly what the title says. I have Ryzen 5 7500f and 32gb (2x16) of ddr5 Kingston Fury I've tried: One ram stick and no ram stick Popping out the cmos battery, waiting 10 minutes before putting it back in Flashing bios Checking bent pins, even sent a macro picture to a friend and still nothing Letting it just run for 15 minutes Reseating the cpu and cooler None of these have worked for me. Any help would be appreciated- 3 replies

Hello community, I've upgraded my CPU, RAM, MOBO and CPU Cooler. Therefore, I gave my old gear to my younger sister. Here are the components I gave her: - Intel 8700K (CPU) - G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3000MHZ 8GB x2 (RAM) - MSI z370 Gaming Pro Carbon (MOBO) - Cpoler Matser MasterAIr MA610P (CPU Cooler) Here are the rest of her specs: Previously, as I had upgraded to an RTX3080, I gave her my old GPU: an AMD RX 5700XT. She has an LC6550GP2 550w PSU, a 120gb SSD, a 500gb M.2 nvme SSD that has not been initalized yet, and a 1TB HDD. Windows is currently installed on the 120gb SSD. Here's the issue: No post. It boots, everything lights up (cooler, mobo, gpu, RAM rgb, case fans), all the fans are spinning (except for the GPU fans that has a silence mode built-in). When plugged to the monitor, the light indicator switches from orange to white showing that the monitor detects a connection - then it promptly goes to orange again and the monitor goes back to sleep. The monitor works with my PC. The motherboard signals a red light on the DRAM indicator. Further context and details: - Thermal paste is applied. - The system used to house a 4th gen i5 CPU and a GTX960. The case is pretty small and the new components are a very tight fit. (Picture: GPU removed for more visibility). The motherboard is fixed on the case with stand off hex screws. - The components worked with no issues on my PC. - The RAM sticks seems intact (see pics) and the rgb lights up when booting the system - The PSU has a 550w capacity but comes from a Noname brand and hasn't even got a Bronze certification - Her system worked fine with the Intel 4th gen and the AMD GPU rx5700XT I intend to remove all the components and build a cardboard bench outside the PC case. I would love to hear your thoughts about the possible issues and how to address them. I have my own computer at hand, so I can use my own components to see what is happening. Thanks for the help, cheers!

Hello, I registered here to ask for help with a problem I have for the last 5 to 6 months. Quick history I bought on August 25th 2023 an upgrade kit for my pc. New components: - Ryzen 9 7900X - Arctic Freezer A13 X (cpu cooler) - Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32G (2x16G) - Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX - M.2 disk 2TB - SSD disk 1TB Re-used components: - SSD 1TB - PSU Corsair 850W Gold (exact model I do not know atm) - GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super - Case + fans Extra info: Bios - latest version, not sure about the number but I checked when I got the pc back. Windows 11 PRO 64 bit When everything was assembled I got a DRAM error and no video output. I contacted the shop, did some testing like re-seating RAM, CPU, QFlash Bios but nothing worked. Brought the system to the shop, MB was defective and replaced. Got my system back, started it and it worked so far. Tried to install Windows 11 but got DRAM errors while installing the OS. It happened every time it needed a restart. I kept restarting and got Windows installed but I could not use the pc, it just gave me black screens and DRAM errors. I called the shop again, discussed it, brought the system back and they found the MB defective (again) and this time the CPU was defective too. They replaced both and I got my system back. This time the pc was starting normally. I installed some software and ran updates. With the Windows updates it needed to restart the system and it gave me a DRAM again and no video output. But when forcing a shut down and restarting the system, it started normally to Windows and continued the updates. The DRAM kept happening every time the pc needed a restart. I contacted the shop and discussed it was maybe a software issue. I reinstalled Windows and all software again. Did some updates and the problem seemed fixed. About two weeks later I started to get random shutdowns and failing video driver issues. Programs or games shutting down with weird issues. Event viewer showed me tons of errors for video drivers and access violations. A week after that it was impossible to do anything. Starting a browser or opening folders would randomly shut down the computer. I contacted the shop again and got a list of software they tested systems with. I tested my pc with MEMTEST86+, OCCT, BurnInTest, Prime95, CrystalDisk, HDTune and Heaven. I used monitoring software like HWMonitor too. I got a ton of errors in all programs, some did shut down the pc. So, I contacted the shop again and I brought the pc back in, including an email with my test results. This time, they declared the MB and RAM defective and replaced them (this is the fourth MB). They also replaced my PSU just to be sure. They did a 48 hour extensive test round with a person monitoring everything. I got my system back again and was thankful when I plugged everything in and it worked like a dream. I did some tests with BurnIntest and OCCT and got no errors. Did a couple manual restarts and after a Windows update and I didn't get DRAM errors. I was happy. This brings us to my problem now I got my pc back on December 6th. The shop did not charge me for any fixes and replacement parts, not even the psu. I worked every day on the computer. I use software like the common Office products. Also Adobe products as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. I used Unreal Engine 5.3 and I played some games. December 24th I started the computer and got a black screen and a DRAM error. The only thing I noticed was a click sound from the PSU, like a switch was flicked. Right after the DRAM light came on. I looked into this and people say it could be a relay and a normal sound, but I never heard it before. The pc case is right next to me on a cabinet, like 30 - 40 cm away from me. A click would be noticeable. I also found mentions about a shortage and/or safety feature within the PSU. The last thing I did on December 23th was play Fallout 4 before going to bed. During the day I did some design work in Photoshop and worked on a document in Word. The only crash I got, between December 6th and 24th was when playing Fallout 4. Video driver crashed because of a setting that was set to low (Weapon Debris) which, apparently RTX cards can't handle. I turned it off and the game worked but had a sync issue with sound. Which had something to do with the FPS I got (144). Fallout 4 doesn't have an option to limit the fps, there is no v-sync either. I capped the fps to 120 in Nvidia Control Panel for Fallout 4 specific. After that the game ran fine. I played for about 1 - 1,5 hours. Then closed the game and other programs that were open (browser, steam etc) and turned off the pc. Nothing weird happened that could hint towards an malfunctioning system. My system is connected through a surge protected outlet. I don't have an UPS (yet). - Could this be caused by peripherals? I got two 32" monitors (displayport) - LG I have a wired mouse (USB) - Razer Basilisk V3 A wired keyboard (USB) - Corsair K55 RGB (RGB = off) A 2.1 speakerset (USB powered) - Creative Pebble 2.1 plus A XBOX 360 controller (Wired since wireless runs out of power) A headset wireless (USB receiver) - HyperX Cloud Flight What comes to mind as for possible reasons that cause this? I am open to anything as long as it is serious. This problem is taking way to long, about 5 to 6 months now. I need the system to continue my work since my laptop is not powerful enough to do everything. I need more input to discuss with the shop or to fix after my system runs again. I appreciate your help. Thanks in advance

So my fiance's PC keeps restarting randomly whenever it's doing anything (reinstalling windows, playing games, sitting idle). At first we thought it might be that at our old place the wiring was bad and the over current/over voltage protection was being tripped. But now in a new place, same issue. Swapped out power supplies, GPU and still same issue. The power supply and GPU are fine, tested them in my rig and ran stress tests and my PC stayed on the whole time and is still on (using her PSU but back to my GPU for now). At first I thought to test the ram in the slots they were in, 2 and 4. Same issue. Removed one stick (in slot 4) and it booted and before I could finish installing windows it turned off, you could hear it turn off, and then it turned itself back on and booted back up. Tried the other stick in the same slot, same thing. Trying a stick in slot 2, it won't boot but everything turns on and the fans are at max. The Mobo shows an orange LED where the dram is, maybe that slot is dead? Her Mobo is Asus b 550 gaming Her GPU is a 2070 Super Zotac XC Gaming PSU is currently my PSU - rm850x Ram is GSkill Trident Z Neo 16gb ddr4 3600 CPU is 3700x CPU cooler is a Corsair aio, the h150i pro if she remembers correctly. (I can edit later if this ends up being incorrect) I've made sure all connections are good on both the Mobo and the PSU and nothing smells like burning so I don't think anything is shorted, but I could be wrong. Should I test the other stick first and see if the dram light still comes on, or should I just assume the Mobo is dead and replace it? (Can't test the CPU as we don't have a spare and we don't have thermal paste. I also don't know if my CPU would work in her Mobo. My CPU is a 2600)

Hello guys, So I recently built a new computer and I have the 2 sticks in the primary slots a2/b2. When I turn it on the yellow dram qled lights up stopping the boot process. Following the manual, I visited the QVL List to check the compatibility of my ram sticks. The stick I have does show up but I noticed the version I have is different then what shows on the site [as I have ver 5.33.01]. Does the version of the ram stick matter? I've referred to other forums saying to update bios but for that I would need to have a display which I have yet to get to. Ive tried flash bios but I'm not too sure I correctly executed that. I followed a YouTube tutorial and downloaded the latest bios for my mobo [BIOS 1402] to a correctly formatted flashdrive and used the correct usb slot. Held the button for a bit and waited for the small light to stop flashing. The tutorial guy did this before he even built his PC, even without the cpu, so I may have done something incorrectly, please let me know if I've already bricked my mobo... But even so, this didnt solve my boot problem with the yellow DRAM qled. Is this problem solvable with a lower bios version? or is their anything else I should try in regards to updating the bios? Thanks for any advice in advance! specs: Intel Core i9-14900KF 3.2 GHz 24-Core Processor Asus ROG STRIX B760-A GAMING WIFI ATX LGA1700 Motherboard Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 CL36 Memory (CMK32GX5M2B5600C36) Crucial P5 Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive Gigabyte WINDFORCE OC GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 12 GB Video Card attached file is "compatible memory stick" according to asus

So I just built this pc and for reference, here are my specs Mobo: Gigabyte b650 aorus elite ax CPU: Ryzen 7 7800x3d Memory: Gskill flare x5 ddr5 2x16gb 6000 MT/s CL 30-38-38-96 PSU: MSI MPG A850G PCIe 5.0 GPU is not installed yet but it's a 7900xtx Anyways, I powered it on for the first time and the first thing I notice was a solid red DRAM light and no post. I waited for a bit to see if anything changed and I got to this screen Cool, now I can press delete to get to the bios to update it and maybe with a newer version it will maybe help cuz my noob brain figures that fixing some potential compatibility issues with the RAM might fix the red light. But pressing delete does nothing and I didn't want to press Y or N without knowing what they did. I'm pretty sure the USB port works, as my mouse lit up, and my keyboard worked fine on my other pc so I don't think it's that, but I'm not sure what else could be the problem. Any ideas?

Specs: Mobo: MPG B5501 GAMING EDGE MAX WIFI CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D PSU: NZXT H1 (V2) PSU (750w gold) RAM: 32gb T-force DarkZ(2x16 3200mhz) Graphics card: RTX 4060 Cooling: NZHT H1 (V2) Líquid cooler Storage: NVME: WD_BLACK 1Tb 5150MB/s Hi, after upgrading the CPU, I installed the CPU and then went to the bios to flash & update the BIOS with the new CPU in, all went alright and even reached 100% on progression bar and everything, but then it remained in a black screen for hours, I decided to restart the PC and now it won't boot, the motherboard keeps on the Dram light, so I supposed that changing the RAM from slots or leaving just one would solve the problem but nothing happened, I then switched to the old CPU but same problem, even cleared the CMOS but still the same problem, I even switched to a different RAM module but nothing happened too. I really need help on this one since I need the PC for my work The screenshot was before updating the bios when all worked as usual It won't post not even to the BIOS

Summary Tech startup QuInAsQu has unveiled a working prototype of their "UltraRam" NAND technology. Claimed features include: Less than 1ns write latency Over ten million write cycle durability Non-volatility with data retention estimated at over a thousand years Orders of magnitude lower power consumption than existing DRAM Quotes My thoughts Jeez, does it also give massages? At least they have a working prototype, so it's theoretically not complete BS. Sources https://www.tomshardware.com/news/ultraram-demos-prototype-chip-secures-funding-to-validate-commercial-potential

I am building a new AM5 PC. When the 8 pin power at the top of the motherboard is not plugged in, I get lights and fans, but no output with the errors above. When it is plugged in however, only the motherboard shows light and power button doesn't work. I've tried two different CPUs, a 7900 and a 7900x, and I've tried each dimm slot with each memory stick. Nothing... I've been at this for a good day now and am at a lost. The last thing I'd want is to reorder parts as they weren't all ordered recently. Any suggestions please! My pc in the last 3 days has been having bootting issues or ram issues. I'm not even sure what to call it. My pc when booting up would keep doing cpu and dram lights. One time it did vga and dram then went to only dram. Now when I was calling my friend on my pc it suddenly shuts down and says only dram. I troubleshooted it and this is what I found/did. I used one ram at a time to troubleshoot. I was able to get it to boot up to windows with both sticks. [Would later not be able to boot] Sometimes it just boots up and goes to windows. It's like a ramdom chance it works. Putting in and out Cmos doesn't help please help. This was my dream pc.

I've been fighting with this for a couple of days: Since last week my computer (that was running perfectly till then and I didn't make any changes) stop booting. When I opened up the case I found the DRAM and CPU lights turning from one to the other. Also, something to mention, is that the CPU fan led lights are not working. My build: Z790 UD AX Intel Core i5-13600KF 3.5 GHz Box AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT 16GB GDDR6 Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 750W 80 Plus Gold Full Team Group T-Force Vulcana DDR5 6000MHz 32GB 2x16G DeepCool AG620 BK ARGB Things that i tried: Updating the BIOS to the latest version. Didn't solve the issue. Reseting de BIOS and mother (pin and battery). Didn't solve the issue. RAM: Cleaning, changing from slot, trying 1 or the other. Right now I have the RAMs at A2 and B2. Didn't solve the issue. Booting without GPU. Didn't solve the issue. I tested both the RAMs and CPU on another motherboard (same model), still the same error. Testing a new CPU fan, also the leds for this one didn't turn on. The fans run perfectly fine. Try booting without CPU, only the CPU led light turn on, not the RAM Try booting without VGA, SSD, same error. Still no luck and it's driving me crazy. Today I'll try a new powersupply but i dont have a new CPU or RAMs so I'm leaving that for last.

Hi, I built my new AM5 pc today however I’ve ran into a few issues. The main issue being the red CPU and DRAM warning/debug lights on the motherboard. I’ve got a 7800X3D for the CPU and 2x16GB sticks of Kingston Fury Beast (6000Mhz) . I checked that the ram was compatible with the motherboard (NZXT N7 B650e) but seems there’s still an issue somewhere. I’ve installed the ram in slots B2 and A2 according to the manual but no joy. Im hoping that for some reason the ram is causing the CPU light to turn on as I bought the CPU during my recent trip to america so won’t be able to return it if it’s faulty any tips or advice would be appreciated (additional info: GPU seems to power on fine however the front IO ports on the case don’t seem to be working. I’ve connected the USBs but I’m not sure if they’ll only start working after the PC boots and gets it’s initial setup. thanks in advance for any help

I am looking for 120/128 gb ssd to upgrade from hdd for boot drive. For almost the same price the market here is offering old ssds like:- Samsung 850 evo (2014), some transcend, crucial, Kingston ssdnow v+200 (2012, bought together for friend, turns out it doesn't have dram oops!!) And new definitely dram-less ssds like:- Hikvision e100, lexar ns100, Adata SU650, and less commonly Patriot P210, teamGroup GX2 Currently, I most commonly use Chrome and android studio. New ones do come with warranties but i don't know how easy the procedure will be. (Old ones have 10 days checking warranty) That video from Linus is haunting me

LED Debug code 27. What does it mean? [We moved from one place to another. After moving trying to turn it on No display] 1. After i click the PC power up button. 2. At the 'LED Debug code' it rolls & changes till Code 27 3. Then PC auto Boots again and 'LED Debug Code' rolls till 27 4. PC gets stuck at Debug Code 27, no more auto BOOT. Some other LEDs on the MOBO ---------------------------------- There are 4 initialization LEDs [CPU, DRAM, BOOT, VGA] 5. Those 4 initialization LEDs :- It gets stuck on DRAM, (2nd Step) doesn't reach BOOT. 6. i have another PC System, checked the GPU and RAM, those are fine Btw. Can static electricity (shocks) cause any damage?

My friend bought a custom built older pc that had an intel core i5 7400. My freind wanted to play Hogwarts Legacy at 1080p but didnt have alot of money to upgrade so I recomended a Ryzen 5 5600 and an Asus B550 prime MoBo because its a cheap upgrade to 6 cores from 4. When we put it together the Dram light came on so I tested diffrent ram sticks in diffrent slots, clear cmos and wiped the drive. still nothing and if i only had one stick in both the cpu and dram light came on. At this point I told him to return them and get new cpu and motherboard just to be safe so he did we got the new ones in and we are having the same issue expt the cpu light doesnt come on now with one stick plugged in. But the dram light is still on and no matter what I do it wont go of. PC SPECS: Ryzen 5 5600 Asus B550 Prime motherboard 16GB of Patriot ram at 1666MHz (I also tried my own ram 16gb OlOy ram 3600MHz) Asus 3060 Prime Thermaltake Smart 500w PSU What I have tried. Testing ram sticks individualy Testing diffrent slots Trying diffrent Ram Clear cmos Earased Nvme ssd Cant update bios on this board without post Tryed taking out gpu to see if its a power problem Tested a brand new board with brand new cpu.

I have gotten a good deal on both of these ssds. Both are at the same price. But the 980 doesn't have DRAM cache and the Addlink one has SLC cache. Then there is the 870 QVO with cache and a good Reputable brand name but it is sata instead of m.2 . 870 seems like the best option for me but i would like some help deciding. Which one should i get? I occasionally play AAA RPGs but not a regular gamer.

I bought all new components except GPU, and my build is: Ryzen 5 3600 B450 Aorus Elite V2 2x8GB Kingston Beast 3600Mhz FSP Hydro Pro 600W MSI RX 470 Gaming X 4GB The problem first appeared when I started installing Windows where first crash appeared, DRAM light on the motherboard turned on and I got no signal on the screen while the PC seems to be running. For me to restart the PC I needed to turn on the switch on PSU and then turn on the PC. After that incident a managed to install Windows and I thought that everything is alright until the moment when I restarted the PC and booted in Windows where a couple of seconds after logging in PC crashed again with the same DRAM light. At that point, I started searching on internet the what is causing the problem. I remove the RAM stick and try every possible orientation and I was still getting the sem crash with the DRAM light. I did not turn on XMP. I tried also fleshing the BIOS and still nothing. When I am in BIOS the PC doesn't crash no matter how long is PC running. The next thing that I tried is to use RAM and GPU from a friend which did not help also, BUT when I put his CPU (Ryzen 5 1600) with all my parts the PC stopped crashing and I was able to reinstall Windows with no problem( which I taught is maybe causing the problem). After reinstallation, I put back my CPU and the PC crashed again. For the problem to be more confusing when I put my CPU in his build which is I think Asus Prime a320, 2x4gb 2400mhz with some Cooler Master 500w, there are no crashes. At that point, I didn't know what to do and I thought that for some reason my CPU is faulty so I sent it back to the store for reclamation and they approved it and I got a new CPU which also crashed. At that point a started locking at CPU voltage in BIOS. I lovered CPU Vcor and VCOR SOC -0.1V, after which PC started working normally, until sometimes when it crashes again but now less occasionally. What can be causing this problem so I can replace that part because I have a guarantee, any help?

So, I am semi-new to building PC's I have built my previous one with little to no issues but with my current build I just cant seem to get to the post screen. The issue I am having is that the DRAM light just remains constantly on. PC Specs: Processor - AMD Ryzen 7800x3D RAM - Corsair DOMINATOR PLATINUM RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz C36 AMD Optimized Desktop Memory Moba - Asus ROG Strix X670E-F Gaming WIFI GPU - PowerColor Radeon RX 7900 XTX PSU - Gigabyte P1000GM, 1000W, 80Plus Gold, Fully Modular Things that I have tried: - Left the PC running for 10/15minutes or so. - Tried each RAM slot individually with each RAM stick. - Tried a different DDR5 RAM set. - Updated the Moba via Bios Flashback - Reset the CMOS - Took the CPU out and put it back in. - Uninstalled everything from the PSU and Reinstalled. - Tried without GPU The one thing that I am worried about is that the first time I booted the system it remained on for like 10minutes or so and turned itself off ( This is where I think something went wrong internally ) Maybe I am massively in denial and something is just wrong with the moba. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated really don't want to go through the hassle of having to return/replace parts.

I've been working on a new build and I cannot for the life of me get the thing to POST with more than one DIMM installed. With only one memory stick in the rightmost slot I can pretty much always get into the BIOS and can get into Windows 10 as well, but trying any other slot or any combination of 2 or more DIMMs the board gets hung up on a DRAM issue evident by the status LED. So far I have tried: Lexar Hades RGB 3600MHz-CL18 2x8GB (two separate kits, tried all 4 DIMMs) Corsair Vengeance RGB 3000MHz-CL15 4x8GB (all 4 DIMMS, even got the kit RMA'd because 2 DIMMS wouldn't POST at all) Timetec Pinnacle Konduit 3200MHz-CL16 2x16GB (tried both DIMMs) I have reset the CMOS countless times now and just now disassembled the build to examine the CPU socket revealing zero bent pins, which I was hoping would be the issue as it's the only thing that I think would cause this issue. Build Specs are as follows: Intel Core i5-12400F Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black ASRock B760M Pro RS/D4 Intel 670p 1TB Gen3 M.2 SSD EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 FTW3 EVGA 700GD 700W 80+ Gold rated PSU Antec Dark Cube Inverted mATX Chassis

Hi I am looking at amazon uk at the moment and have found a "Crucial P3 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen3 NVMe Internal SSD - Up to 3500MB/s - CT1000P3SSD8" for £43.79 I have also found a Kioxia EXCERIA NVMe SSD 1TB PCIe/NVMe 1.3 Gen3x4 2100 MB/s M.2 for £43.98. I know that the rated speed of the Crucial is faster than the Kioxia, but I also saw online that the Kioxia has DRAM which the Crucial does not and some folks have suggested that it is the better buy as a result and that the difference in speed is minimal due to the DRAM prescence. Just wondering what folks thoughts and advice are? Many Thanks
