Can anyone find a proper thunderbolt 3 dock available for purchase in Canada? It seems like there is 6 or 7 companies that say they have them but they are all "coming soon". Are there any actually available? I want to move my desktop into the room next to me (because noise) and running the cable for the dock through the wall is the best solution I can think of. What would you recommend as a solution for this? I'm also considering the following options: ~ Buying 10ft cables for all my peripherals (aux cable, displayport, 4 usb cables) and sleeving them all and running that though the wall. ~ Using an adapter to convert the thunderbolt 3 port on my desktop to thunderbolt 2 and using a thunderbolt 2 hub ~ Same thing as above, but instead of the adapter, buying a thunderbolt 2 expansion card. Also: I don't care much about cost, I've already spent 1000$ on trying to make the build quieter by using "silent" parts. I just don't want the solution to drastically degrade stuff like audio quality or mouse response time.

Hi, I recently bought a laptop with a USB 3.1 gen 2 connector. I'm now looking for a good hub solution for my desk. I have a monitor, keyboard and mouse. The problem is I can't seem to find a USB C hub with a displayport and at least two USB connectors. Has anyone here any experience with these adapters or hubs? Also I considered connecting multiple adapters, so from usb C to usb 3.0 + usb c and then another usb c to display port. Would that work? One last thing, My budget isn't that high, so most docks are out of the picture. (50-ish $) Thanks,

Hello all, I would like to create a thunderbolt 3 docking station of sorts that both my 15in Macbook Pro and wife's 13in Macbook Pro (no touchbar) could use, but I'm having difficulty figuring out something user friendly and aesthetically pleasing. Essentially, I would like to have three 4k monitors, power, and several USB devices all connect with two thunderbolt 3 plugs. I only have my laptop, a mouse, USB microphone, and USB MIDI keyboard so far, so I'm pretty much starting from scratch here. Budget is about $2,000. Use will be productivity focused with some very light gaming (Civ, Worms, Minecraft), so 60Hz is fine. 27in, VESA mounting, and Freesync are also desired if possible. From my research, it looks like a single thunderbolt 3 cable can run up to 2 4k displays at 60Hz. Thus, my general plan is to dedicate one thunderbolt cable to two displays and the other to the third display and an external backup drive. Then I'd sprinkle my less data intensive USB devices throughout using either built in USB ports on the displays or a USB hub if necessary. Does that make sense? A dock like the vertical Hengedock is attractive to get rid of cable clutter and transform it into a truly single plug and play solution. Although this model will not fit both Macbook sizes. The Dell UltraSharp 27 4K display really caught my eye. (27in, 4k, IPS, HDR, VESA, bezel-less for $500!) However, they don't have thunderbolt 3 inputs. There exist some thunderbolt 3 to dual displayport adapters, however I'm not sure if they would A) charge my laptop from the display and B) limit USB performance of devices attached to the monitors' USB ports. There doesn't seem to be any thunderbolt 3 monitors on the market right now that support daisy chaining and full 87 Watt charging, though both should be possible. I would like whatever accessories I buy to last 10 years since both 4k and thunderbolt 3 are forward-looking. The correct solution may be to wait a year or two until the right products come on the market. Any input would be great! Is my general thought process correct? Am I way too soon to be attempting this type of setup? How should I distribute my USB devices? Are there any products you know of that would suit my needs? Would a thunderbolt 3 dock or an external graphics card enclosure be worth the high prices? Could I purchase one monitor now and complete the full setup later? What is the best VESA mount to use? P.S. If you feel inclined to hate on my laptop choice, just read Macbook Pro as Razerblade Stealth

How far can you stretch an I/O docking station and by what method is best. Personally I'm looking to get no more than 50ft with is a tall order. I have 2 HDMI cables, 1 component cable (with audio), 1 usb 2.0, and 1 ethernet cable going from my desktop in the basement to my studio room on the top floor. It's really about 40ft for each cable but the extra is nice to have. I would like to combine all of that to 1 cable and in one of Linus' personal rig updates, he used a Thunderbolt Cable to go between his personal rig and his peripherals in the other room. I have a feeling Thunderbolt is much like usb where it can't go beyond 10ft without some sort of repeater or extender on the cable. I thought about a type of optical cable but those are crazy expensive for this type of project.

theres an m.2 x4 version of the beast egpu external dock, it supposedly has no performance loss. theres also an m.2 x2 version, which is supposedly the same speed as the mini pcie version which is also available, they lose 20% performance roughly from what it says. the former blanketing most laptops since 2007 making it excellent. but the m.2 x4 might be a superior solution to this external problem, since its available cheaper than thunderbolt 3 for starters, and if it truely doesnt lose performance, its excellent as well. im not sure on the metrics since i dont own one myself yet. from the videos ive seen with the mini pcie version, it seems to lose a little performance from what id expect on a desktop. the framerate on most games is still very playable for the card in question with little to no noticable drop from what id expect in native x16. so i dont see why m.2 x4 wouldnt completely negate any possible drop in performance flawlessly. id like to see a comparison some day to shed more light on it. although essentially m.2 x4 is pcie 3.0 x4 i believe, so it should be fast enough to support a full gpu with no issues natively. i could be wrong about that though, as some laptops say pcie x4 (m.2 m key 2280) and some dont, similar to how some usb type c has thunderbolt 3 and some dont. also, considering some laptops have 2 mini pcie slots, and considering its just slimmed down pcie x1, i wonder if you could sli graphics cards with this. for anyone looking for it, i searched V8.0 EXP GDC M.2 X4 Version, its the first link, banggood. if you scroll down it lists links to all the different versions, m.2 x2, mini pcie, mac and expresscard. pretty awsome seeing this kind of thing finally. keep in mind the mini pcie version on banggood isnt bundled with the power adapter or 6 pin splitter. but you can find the same thing on world taobao in a bundle. theres also cases available on ebay for this dock. https://www.banggood.com/M_2-X4-Version-V8_0-EXP-GDC-Beast-Laptop-External-Independent-Video-Card-Dock-With-Power-p-1109912.html X4 version bundle https://world.taobao.com/item/37107780625.htm?fromSite=main (translate this site with google chrome or equivilant) mini pcie version bundle https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XEXP+GDC+BEAST+case.TRS0&_nkw=EXP+GDC+BEAST+case&_sacat=0 Cases translated the taobao website gives pretty comprehensive instructions to set it up, and a pretty long list of helpful information.

Hi Considering that my setup has at least two USB-C ports, one directly on the mobo (Asus PRIME X299-DELUXE), and the other one on an expansion card (Asus ThunderboltEX 3), can I connect at least four 4K displays to my computer using USB-C docks? I think this is the way Linus did it with one of his setups (not the 4 displays, but accessing the pc from an other room using some sort of dock) but I can't remember so I'm not too sure. Also if this is possible, where will the graphics power come from? I'm asking this because the displays won't be connected to the GPU(s).

Hi, I have the new MacBook Pro 15” 2017 500Gig version. My new dual monitor display Dell U2712D is on its way. I was wondering what are the best options for docking station to support 1440 res. Or can it be connected without a docking station? I have a Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter (USB-C to HDMI, USB C & regular USB port adapter). But looks like the HDMI for display supports only 1080p at 60Hz or UHD (3840 by 2160) at 30Hz but no info on 1440 res. Cheaper solutions welcomed!

Hello everyone, I plan to buy a MacBook (please don’t judge the brand, I just prefer macOS for everything except gaming) and I am therefore looking for a USB-c Dongle/hub. I want at least one type A port, as well as one HDMI port. Ethernet and USB-c Pass through are a plus, but not needed. My problem is that I am not able to find a dongle that supports 4K (or even 1440p) they all support max 30Hz, or 1080@60. Is it a limitation of USB 3.1 gen 1? or just cheap brands? And I know the thunderbolt 3 docks supports everything I want and more, but they all cost about 300€ and/or require external power

Hey, I am interested in getting a gpu dock for my xps, but so far I have only seen the Razer Core (which is really expensive), one from alienware (just for alienware laptops) and one from Akitio at 218$ Links: Is the Akitio any good? And are there any other gpu docks that work with the new xps 15? Thanks! Edit: Also, if I have a case and a gpu, can't I use that instead?

So I watched an LTT vid where Linus was talking about feeding one of the optical USB-C/Thunderbolt cables through his wall and using that for all his ports. I love that idea but I have struggled to find info on USB-C/Thunderbolt cards and docks that allow you to pass through your dedicated gfx to it, some seem to have their own USB driven display card and others there is no info. it's all quite confusing. most google results I get are talking about external gfx cards over USB-C/Thunderbolt. Any advice or help would be much appreciated

I just bought the Razer Blade 15 RTX2070 8th Gen i7 Advanced Model and am slowly going to integrate an eGPU enclosure and sell my gaming PC, but at the moment I just want to buy a TB3 dock to integrate all my peripherals through one tb3 cord. I have my eyes on the caldigit ts3 because it looks like the best choice to cover all my bases but for $400AUD its a bit out of my budget, im hoping to spend no more than $200 AUD. The I/O requirements I'm looking for at the bare minimum are as follows; - DisplayPort 1.4 (Not HDMI because I DP1.4 is required to display the full 1440p 144hz of my monitor) - Gigabit ethernet port - 2x TB3 ports - 3.5mm AUX in - SD card reader* - 10x USB 2.0/3.0 ports* *if it supports daisy chaining of a USB-A Hub then only 1 is really required but I need 10 in total because of all my peripherals and VR sensors ect. Same goes with the SD card reader as my USB hub already has one. If you have any suggestions or have gone a similar route i'd be happy to hear how you went about it. Thanks in advance.

So I'll be going off to college soon and I've managed to accumulate a decent "new PC" budget of about 2000 dollars US. Because I'll be studying Computer science I want to have a solid laptop to do my work on. I think I may be best served by an Egpu as it would let me spend money on decent hardware once, and then add a GPU. Do y'all have any suggestions on solid laptops to use with an Egpu? My only criterium is really that it has 16 GB of ram.

Hi all. I was just wondering. I'm close to buying a new gaming laptop with thunderbolt 3. I would really like to make a clean desktop setup using a one cable solution with a TB3 dock / dongle for connecting peripherals and my external 144 Hz 27" screen but everywhere I look, any of these docks only support 4K at 30 Hz at most. I'll use my external screen at 1080p at most for gaming but is there any dock that outputs with HDMI or either mini DP at 1080p and 144 Hz? I cannot find one or it isn't either specified the refresh rate at other resolutions. I need to know just in order to organize differently the table setup with just a USB 3.0 dock and a dedicated mini DP cable for the screen. Thanks.

I have a "new" work laptop that when I connected to my ultrawide monitor is has a max size of 2560 x 1440. The same thing happened when I plugged in my desktop which leads me to believe it is my port replicator. It is also running off of USB 3 type A instead of the USB C port on my Laptop (HP Elite x2). Would buying a port replicator/docking station that is type C be able to fix this or am I limited by my laptop? Thank you to anyone that takes the time to respond to this.

Hey guys, Becuase I would like to connect my ThinkPad T580 to a bigger monitor at home, I bought an external 4k monitor and a Lenovo Hybrid USB-C dock. However, I have experienced a lot of problems getting a fluid connection going. I know there is a problem with the DisplayLink software and the usage of the internal GPU instead of the dedicated GPU which I would like to use for the monitor. I have tried to turn the internal Graphics off in device manager, but this now always bricks my computer and makes it unusable. I have tried to contact the support, but they haven't really been able to help. So here are my specs and all the products I use: Lenovo T580 i7-8550U Intel UHD Graphics 620 Dedicated NVIDIA MX150 16GB RAM Internal 4k Screen Monitor: Samsung U28E590D 4K Monitor; connected via DisplayPort cable Dock: https://www.lenovo.com/de/de/accessories-and-monitors/docking/universal-cable-docks-usb/TP-Hybrid-US...

Can you recommend something? I'm good with desktop PCs but not so good with laptops so I don't know what I should look for. I'm going to be using it for programming, that's it so I don't need a powerful GPU. Minimum of 16GB ram (or the option to upgrade to it) Minimum 500GB SSD or option to replace / add sata or m.2 disk. Compatible with Fedora without much thinkering Compatible with a USB C dock (minimum of 2 monitor support) that works with Fedora Battery isn't really a problem since it will probably spend 99% of it's life in the dock (but I want the ability to use it as a laptop when needed) GPU can be intel/and/nvidia CPU can be intel/amd Minimum 4 cores, but more is better Try to not go over $1000 I like both Asus and Lenovo. I dislike HP, Dell and Acer a lot, but all options are considered. I don't like MacOS nor the price for a Apple product, considering what you get, so please don't suggest one.

I work in a repair center that is not apple certified. We have never had any connections to Apple and as of now, never will. We got 4 of these docks in the mail today all of which don't work. (tested with two of our old loaner phones) no return address. Each box had a dock and piece of paper which I'm confident isn't legit. Our shop is in Texas if it means anything. (shipped like this with the paper folded on top of it)

This has happened to me twice in the past couple of weeks and I wanted to see if anyone else here had encountered something similar. It seems at times when I dock my NSwitch it shows its getting power yet the signal for whatever reason doesn't push to the TV and the screen on the Switch just goes black (as it should when it is docked) however, where things get weird is that it gets locked up in a permanent sleep state where I have to hold the power button for 15 seconds then tap it again to power cycle and restart the console. FYI I can only do this while its undocked. Console works perfectly fine in handheld mode no issues what so ever so it would seem that its not bricked. Below are the steps I've taken to troubleshoot. Tried on a different TV altogether. My main TV is a 4K HDR smart TV and you know it can get wonkey since they like to try and detect things automatically and switch to them. I tried on a vanilla ordinary 1080p HDTV and same exact issues persist so its not the smart tv. Swapped the HDMI cable with a known good working one in addition to testing on the vanilla HDTV. Same issue. Tested the Official Nintendo AC Adapter that came with the dock by plugging it directly into the NSwitch in handheld mode. Charged switch and power delivery is fine even while playing. Tried different HDMI ports on multiple TVs same issue. Unplugged power and HDMI cables from the dock. Unplugged TV power. Power cycled the switch then replugged in the TV, dock power, dock HDMI in that order same issue I dust out the dock port and the USB port lightly with a dry q tip and compressed air. No dice. Up till this point I'm thinking so dock must be faulty despite being very new possibly that will fix it...but this is where it gets weird... I figured ok what the hell I'll put my Switch into the dock overnight and just let it sit keep in mind its been charged and has juice through the whole troubleshooting process. Solid green light came on to show it was docked still no luck on the signal going to the TV so I go to bed. I wake up see the green light off on the dock and test by turning on the console while its docked and the signal goes through to the TV like normal and works fine in spite of not being able to go through or turn on at all the night before while docked? I should also mention I have also only ever used the official Nintendo dock. I've only ever used battery packs in handheld mode. What gives? Any one else run into this its become more frequent lately.

Hi guys. I was wandering if there is some docking station that can pass through dedicated gpu signal, all peripherals and 200w of power through Thunderbolt 3. Then i found this little guy. https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-thunderbolt-dock-g2-with-combo-cable It's super cool but it only works with workstations(not somethink like this one https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/omen-by-hp-17-an188nr ) and doesn't use dedicated notebook gpu (gtx 1070 for example). It would have been such a great combo of mobility and one cable dock at same time. Maybe if we make big companies notice a demand on such a product... or is there somethink like it already?

How about this = EXP GDC (Laptop external GPU Dock), i was half expecting it to be a scam but it panned out to be a working product that brought back some life to an old Dell e6420 i have. Banggood = https://www.banggood.com/Mini-PCI-E-Version-V8_0-EXP-GDC-Beast-Laptop-External-Independent-Video-Card-Dock-p-1011222.html?rmmds=mywishlist&cur_warehouse=CN Ebay = https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PCI-E-V8-0-EXP-GDC-External-Laptop-Video-Card-Laptop-Docking-Station/173534416974?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 i got my one from eBay because the seller was based out of Australia. it is limited due to bandwidth limitation of the connection so i believe anything above a 970 / 780 you will probably not see much deference due to bottleneck, but not sure, i have it running with a 750Ti which is better then the Intel HD3000 onboard GPU, have not run benchmark tests yet but just from loading up some games i played before i can see a big improvement. it is very jank but i found this to be a bit of a fun little project all in all

in this difficult time where a lot of us are relegated to our homes for work we all grasp to find the perfect work from home set up. The problem i've run into has to do with my desk setup. I have a work laptop and a desktop as well as 2x 1440p monitors a keyboard and a mouse. I want to be able to dock my work laptop but share my peripherals with my desktop. Due to the use of a VPN i cannot use synergy to share my keyboard and mouse. One option i could think of is to use a usb switch hub and a dock this may work but could cause issues. Optimally i'd like to find a dock that has a built in peripheral switch with either 2 usb B ports or 2 USB a ports allowing me to switch between the 2 devices. it would be nice if they had HDMI or DP switches built in as well so i can switch between them but its not a big deal to switch both the usb hub and monitor input. Does anyone have any suggestions or ways around it?

I want to make a setup with my PC away from me but I just don't know where to start. I essential want to have a dock at my desk with my Keyboard Mouse and Video source running from the dock to my desktop. That would be elsewhere like a Closet or other room nearby. I've been looking for steps or info on how to do this but nothing. Thanks for any suggestions,
