Sorry if this is the wrong location, if it is could some staff member move it thanks So, i've tried installing DayZ for few hrs already without no luck and trying multiple different things to fix it, deleting some files, reinstalling steam etc, but i just can't seem to install DayZ on my D: drive for some reason, i can install other games on the drive but for some reason i can't install DayZ on it.. Inside the content_log file it says Failed to preallocate file "D:\Steam\steamapps\downloading\221100\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2013\vcredist_x64.exe" (7194312 bytes) (Not enough disk space) AppID 221100 update changed : Running,Preallocating,Stopping, AppID 221100 update changed : Running,Stopping, AppID 221100 update changed : None AppID 221100 state changed : Uninstalled, (Not enough disk space) Uninstalled app 221100 (Not enough disk space) AppID 221100 scheduler finished : removed from schedule I have no idea why it says "Not enough disk space" since i obviously have room on it as i can install other games on it and my compter shows i have 180gb free space..

Hi there! I have 2 samsung ssd's and 1 hdd attached to my computer. The os is on one of the ssd's and the other 2 disks are just partitioned in disk management to be used for other stuff. What I would like to know, will putting this setting to "Never" disable auto shutdown for all 3 disks or just for the one that os is installed on? I would not like to have the other ssd and the hdd shutdown after a while, I would like to keep all 3 disks ON.

Hey, I was wondering, when will I be able to buy a Win 10 disk/license. I ask because I currently run windows 7 HP which, if I was to upgrade, I would have no way to opt-out of auto-updates. I would also like to aquire a dedicated windows 10 "professional" license so that I could do fresh installs on my machine AFTER the first year is up. I havent been able to find any windows 10 disks or licenses for sale AT ALL on the internet, let alone professional licenses. Im not in too much of a hurry though, as I am a bit weary about new software, and am usually a later adopter. Thanks.

For whatever reason my 16gb flash drive is now only displaying as 48.8mb to windows... So I go to the disk management to find that the rest of the space is unallocated and it won't let me format it. I've tried using command prompt for format the thing but the empty 15gb unallocated volume doesn't show up, so I can't select it to format it. This is what happens when I right click on that unallocated volume. No options.... Any way I can get that 15gb back? Right now this flash drive is useless.

I'm not certain when this started happening but it was quite some time ago, at the time I was in the middle of Uni though and gave up troubleshooting it at the time. I have Windows 8.1 installed on an SSD, all the latest updates are installed etc. I use Windows Defender as my antivirus (who doesn't anymore?) Now if you google my issue lots of other people seem to have it too, but I can't find a clear explanation or a solution to it. When my computer is idle for a period of time the CPU and disk usage are swamped by Antimalware Service Executable, which is Windows Defender doing what it should, running maintenance tasks during idle periods, however its supposed to immediately drop what its doing if the user starts doing anything, this is where the problem starts - it does not stop. It'll hog 70-90% of my CPU for 5mins or so before eventually letting up, this is usually accompanied by high disk usage too. Now my PC has always had another issue but I've never linked them before until recently when I resumed trying to troubleshoot my issue and found somebody else explained their issue which is awfully similar to mine. When I sleep my computer, it usually resumes itself for some reason without any input (everybody is out so nobody has touched it), resume from sleep on input devices are switched off in the BIOS, if I sleep it I can't get it to resume without pressing the power button itself, wiggling the mouse or stabbing the keyboard do nothing. So why does it resume itself? Windows Defender is why, according to a post on another forum the network adapter is somehow triggered when any new device connects to the network which resumes the computer, immediately Antimalware Service Executable is hogging the CPU and disk. So I tested this theory, with my computer put to sleep and no programs running but still wired into the network, I turned my sisters laptop on, as soon as the laptop connected to the Wi-Fi my desktop woke up from sleep. I did the same test again but unplugged the ethernet to my desktop, it remained asleep this time. I've read things such as Defender is trying to scan itself so put the Windows Defender exe in the excluded file locations, I've done this. It had absolutely no effect, I also struggle to believe even Microsoft would oversee something so stupid... Has anybody any insight into this other than ditch Defender and use another program? I cannot for the life of me work this out?? Sorry for the long post but its hard to explain whats going on here....

Normally for the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool to run in Windows 7 you had to download it thru Windows updates. For some reason it is randomly running using up all my disk on Windows 10. The day before Windows Modules Installer was also using all the disk Update: it stopped Update 2: now two process by the name of Microsoft Windows system protection background tasks is using up a lot of my disk (location C:\Windows\system32) Update 3: also Windows Installer is using a lot of my discs from time to time Update 4: now it wants me to restart even tho I have Windows updates set to manual (yea its probably because of the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool) update 5: everything back to normal Is this normal?

Hey guys as you all know, lag exists, in its many shapes and forms, its inevitable...For a long time now my windows 8.1 laptop had been acting up (for about year now) with very frequent lag spikes and freezing (100% disk usage and cpu spikes). Its an ASUS N550jk with i7 4700hq, 12GB ram and Nvidia GTX 850m(with bloody windows 8.1 ). Ive been searching and searching for a solution for a while now and i stumbled apon LinusTechTips ! Any help is appreciated. Note: When not at 100 Disk usage, it performs beautifully. Second issue is bandwidth... When ever I play a game (particularly League of Legends) my ping is constantly spiking at about 150-300 (sometimes 500...) which pretty much renders me useless. Although this only usually happens when someone is sharing the internet. When am alone its at about 20ping . So wondering if anyone has some advice to get around this problem which we probably all have, or at least reduce its effect. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Hey, I'm doing a build for a friend in the BitFenix prodigy using this motherboard. To save a bit of cash, we ordered it B-grade from OcUK, but it appears that it didn't come with the driver disc. You may be thinking, "Just plug it into your router and download them from the internet". Unfortunately, drivers are required to use the Ethernet port. So, my question. Is there anyone here who uses this motherboard who is willing to send me the driver disc to borrow? I am willing to pay for the delivery costs (up to a point, obviously), and I will return it too. If you're interested, PM me. You must be able to deliver to the West Midlands/Shropshire in the UK. (Of course, if the delivery prices are extortionate I'll question your sanity). Cheers.

Hey everybody. I have a problem that I'm hoping I can get some help with. I have a DVD which I'm trying to access data from, when I put it in my main PC's disk drive it says there is data on the disk but when I click it there are no files. I tried the same DVD on my laptop and I can access all of the data on the disk. It's not my main PC's disk drive's problem, as other DVDs and CDs that I have work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks -Luke

Today in the mail I received my brand new Samsung 850 EVO. I had been awaiting this for a while and eagerly stuck it in my PC and migrated all my boot data to it. Specs of SSD are as follows: Sequential write up to 520mb/s Sequential read up to 540mb/s 4KB Random Read (QD32) 94k IOPS 4KB Random Write (QD32) 88k IOPS I was fiddling with the settings after I put it in and came across RAPID mode. I researched the function on the Samsung website and it states that it harnesses excess PC power to accelerate the SSD. I placed both RAPID mode and High performance mode on. I was expecting a minimal increase in performance but what I got I was not expecting ;_; I don't know if this is normal and I'm going to look like an idiot if it is. Any input is welcome, I only bite on tuesdays (Attached is CrystalDisk benchmarks and Samsung Benchmark snippits, feel free to use them with reference to me) Ciao for now.

Hi, my brothers laptop barely works as a result of the disk being at 100% usage. Everything takes forever even as soon as your logged in. Do you think this is a dead drive or some kind of virus/malware? It is a hp pavilion laptop Windows 8.1 Thanks

100% disk usage at random times - Drive checks out though
Vitalius posted a topic in Storage Devices
Hi guys, I recently installed Windows 8.1 Pro on a used 2.5" 750GB Toshiba drive. Crystal Disk Info says it is healthy. However, at what seems like random, the disk usage jumps to 100%. I'm checking it with Task Manager and nothing is using more bandwidth though. It is causing the system to slow though, so it isn't a glitch. Other weird things are happening too though. I've started an install of AMD's CCC, but it's stuck at the last step and has been for over an hour. While that was going, I started Windows Updates, and that has been stuck on the first update (.Net 4.5.1) for about the same amount of time. Sometimes I'll click the Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) and it will crash and restart or something similar. I've tried reinstalling the OS, but that hasn't fixed it. Attached is the Crystal Disk Info screenshot. Any advice would be appreciated. -
Say I have an existing drive with data already on the disk, am I able to directly create a RAID 1 array with another disk without having the original disk's contents wiped? Similarly, is it possible to then have that RAID 1 array formed into a RAID 10 also without having the original disks' contents wiped?

I think this is a fairly neat way to reduce the apparent size of the OS and strip away things that you probably don't need since there are more efficient implementations. I do think that compression is a big gamble, given how taxing it might be on your system especially if you run into it on a constant basis, not all computers are superpower beasts that can just crush every single task in no time, but lets see how it gets implemented and then judge. http://hothardware.com/News/windows-10-reclaims-disk-space-by-deleting-recovery-image-and-employing-file-compression?google_editors_picks=true

Hello Guys, I Started To Wonder By The HDD's Behave .. My Secondary Hard Disk (HDD) Always Loading And I Can Hear The Spinning Sound Inside The Case .. * When I Wanted To Open Any File Or Save A Picture .. I Should Wait Until The HDD To Work And Start Spin .. * When I Play Playlist Of Music (Located In The HDD - Media Player In The SSD), 2 Minutes Then The HDD Stuck And Start Loading Again .. So The Music Stop For 3 seconds And Then It Continue .. - Can I Do Something To Keep The HDD Working ? And No Need To Wake Him Up When I Need To Use It ?

Sooo... I opened DiskInfo and this showed up. It's a 1TB Toshiba USB 3.0 external hard disk. I have about 700 gigs of memory used on it. Should I change it asap? Is it possibile to fix it by formatting? (I think not, but if you know there's a hope...). Is it possible that I ruined it by always using it on a USB 2.0 port?

Hi guys, Basically, I have this old computer which had compression turned on for the C drive (everything on the computer basically), and I want it turned off now for everything. Everything. Unfortunately, you can't decompress a file that is in use (such as programs), and I've already unchecked the "Compress data to save disk space" option for the C drive. So, I need a way to decompress all the programs that didn't get decompressed because they were in use, and I need a way to have it automatically search for them and decompress them without me having to manually find and decompress every single file that wasn't decompressed. Any help is appreciated. Windows built-in compression can be annoying.
