I was one of the people that one a Define R4 and I was wondering if anyone else on this forum entered this "contest" a few months back and won a case. I think you had to take a survey or something like that. Cheers!, Flower Fetish

I am looking for a case - preferably optimized for silence - that is an ATX Mid Tower. It can be no taller than 20" and it has to have a front-facing IO (it can't face the top or side; tilted is fine). I plan to put it in a spot in my desk where I keep my current PC. Furthermore, I want it to support 140mm fans - as many as possible. It would be nice if it could pull off water cooling should I decide to do that in the future, but I probably won't, so while it's a consideration, it's not a prerequisite. The only cases that have met my criteria that I know of are the Corsair 550D and the Nanoxia Deep Silence 1. Are there any other cases with good acoustic performance that I could consider that meet my height constraints? Failing all else, I could put it on the top of my desk, but keep in mind that I hope to have a dual monitor setup and, say, a Corsair Air 540 might not fit. Any ideas?

I am planning on adding a Noctua NH D-14 heatsink to my existing build and I was curious as to whether or not that would fit with my RAM. I am assuming it will fit in my case, but if not, or if anyone has any suggestions regarding cooling systems, please let me know. Thanks!

NCIX: http://bit.ly/1pBmZhi Amazon: http://georiot.co/KpP The Fractal Design Define R4 is a phenomenal case that has done such a good job of staying relevant since it first came out in 2012 that I've determined that I need to unbox it once per year!

First post here, but long time follower of LinusTechTips (in a totally non-stalker way, I swear). Anywho, I've finally gotten around to start seriously planning the build that has been stuck in my head for the last few months. My idea is to use not only a Megahalems CPU heatsink inside a Fractal Design Define R4, but also Prolimatech's mk-26 VGA cooler. I've checked the measurements with the Megahalems, and I know that will fit in the case, but the big question is if the mk-26 will have enough room. I've looked around the web trying to find answers, but the closest I've gotten is confirmation that it will fit in an Arc Midi R2, which has about 10mm more clearance than the Define R4. Shown here... So can an mk-26 fit inside a Define R4? Has anybody here tried? Thanks in advance for any help!

I just got a brand new Define R4 case and transferred all the internals of my old computer to it. Everything is working great except for the front panel headphone jack. When I plug in my headphones and listen to music or some YouTube video, the audio sounds very weird. There are no bass frequencies, and sometimes the voices in music will go out but the instruments are still audible. To me it sounds like an audio channel issue, but as far as I know 3.5mm headphone jacks are two-channel right? If I plug my headphones into the back of my sound card everything sounds perfect. I have tried changing settings for the front panel audio connector in the sound card settings program to no avail. After some experimentation, and with some fear of breaking the headphone jack, I discovered that if I put a great amount of force on the headphone plug while it is in the jack and slightly put some pressure to the side as well, the audio comes in perfect. As soon as I let go of the plug the audio goes all weird again. Are there multiple contacts inside the headphone jack for different audio channels? I am wondering because it seems like the headphone plug is not making contact with at least one of them, because certain "channels" of audio sound fine, while bass is not there and sometimes vocals are not either. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. EDIT: This post on another forum seems to match my issue, but there is very little information given. The reply it received mentioned something about a ground connection, but I have no idea what that has to do with the problem. Maybe someone can take a look at that post for more information that they can better interpret to help me. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1860973 EDIT2: This describes my problem exactly, sounds like a front panel headphone jack hardware issue. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/311784-28-front-panel-audio-broken It appears that I may have to contact Fractal Design and request a new headphone jack or front panel I/O assembly under warranty. If you have anything you would like to add that may still fix my problem please do so.

I just bought a Fractal Design Define R4. I know there are two spaces in the front to mount 140mm fans, and two spaces up top to mount 140mm fans. I am interested in water cooling and would like to know if anyone has had experience or knows whether or not a dual 140mm radiator will fit anywhere in the R4? Thanks. EDIT: Also, if there is a 280 radiator that fits (maybe with slight modification), would the Swiftech Helix 140 fans be good for installing in the front of the case for regular air cooling while I save up money for water cooling gear?

Hey, do 120mm fans fit in front and rear fanspots of the Define R4? I already have 120mm Noctua fans and dont have the money for new 140mm fans. Greetings Helge

As we all know the Define R4 doesn't have the greatest airflow in the world. Will getting a blower styled cooler as opposed to a non-reference design cooler help? EDIT: Sorry if it's posted in the wrong section. Was debating between cases or graphics cards...

I was wondering should I go air cooling or water cooling in the Define R4 window. I'm planning to upgrade to Either a 4670K with an Asus z87-A motherboard or an FX-8350 and Asus Sabertooth 990fx motherboard in the near future. But for now I want to get my cooling solution down so my Computer doesn't sound like an airplane engine in my room (AMD stock coolers are loud af). I was leaning toward air cooling and just getting a Hyper 212 EVO, or maybe something from Noctua, since I do have a little money now. But I was wondering should i go with water cooling since the the Define R4 is bad with air flow. Obviously going water would be more effective, but Cost more, which would set me back a lot on getting a new CPU/MOBO, and alsoI'm just worried about water in my case. Any help would be appreciated, Also planning to over clock just a little bit, but not too much Tanks k Bi

So i want a Hydro H80i or a H100i inside my case because air cooling on cpu fans are ugly as poop and these water coolers are small and have pretty customizable light on them The debate is where i should place one of these. I would like to keep my case as silent as possible so i'm hesitating to remove the noise dampening material from the top and keeping a H80i in the back might not be as good looking because then i can see a big chunk of it there. Im thinking if i can somehow fit it in the front of the case? This wont be the best though since they'll pull warm air inside the case. The best solution i see is just removing the noise dampening material from the top and praying to the creators of the matrix that it wont make more noise annyway. Annyone with innovative thoughts about this? Thanks for all feedback <3

Hey Forum, I'm gunna be picking up a Noctua NH-D14, But i'm worried that the air flow in my R4 will get disrupted because the cooler is so big. Current Fan orientation: Intakes 2x 140mm front 1x 140mm side 1x 140mm bottom Exhausts 2x 140mm top 1x 140mm rear Any recommendations for different fan setups are welcome. I was thinking about doing a rear intake and have the NH-D14 pull from the back with the top also changed to intakes and front to exhausts.

With my new and upcoming computer build I'm planning on using the corsair H105 closed loop CPU liquid cooler. The case im using is a Fractal Design Define R4. Is this CPU cooler compatible with the case due to it having a thicker radiator?

I'll be getting the Corsair H100i soon together with my new Define R4. I will be overclocking my CPU, I have a ASRock 970 Extreme3 motherboard. I was wondering if you guys have any tips/tricks on overcloking this particular CPU?

Hello, I'm currently trying to upgrade my PC. Most of the core components are decided and bought (or taken from the old one). I'm upgrading my case from Antec Three Hundred to the Fractal Design Define R4. On my old PC I have i5-760 with Arctic Cooling Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2 cooler plus two Nexus 120mm Silent case fans I can re-use. The new case comes with two relatively good 140mm case fans. What kind of a case fan arrangement would you recommend (2 Fractal Design 140mm silent fans + 2 Nexus 120mm silent fans)? Also, what CPU cooler would you recommend for the 4670k? The Arctic Freezer from my old one is quite silent but not very effective at cooling. I've been looking at Silverstone AR01, Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo and Scythe Mugen 4. So my budget would be around 30 to 40 euros. I live in Finland so not all brands are easily available here. So, anyone got any experience to share or suggestions and comments on how to proceed? I'm looking for a good balance of cooling performance and silent operation. The rest of the stuff if its any help: MoBo: Gigabyte GA-Z87P-D3 RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gigs (two 4gig sticks, no fancy stuff) 1 SSD + 1 HDD MSI Geforce GTX 660 Ti

Hi guys! I'm planning my build, so I would like to get your opinion on the hardware i'm looking at. CPU: i7 4770K Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VI Formula GPU: MSI GTX 770 Gaming 4GB RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16 GB (2x8GB) 1600MHz Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Black SSD: Samsung 840 PROseries 128 GB PSU: Corsair AX 860i CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i (With two Noctua NF-F12 fans) HDD for programs: WD Black 1TB HDD for storage: An old WD Green I already have I've been wondering whether I should get the MSI 770 with 4- or 2GB GDDR memory, but since I'm running two monitors (even though one of them is pretty low-res) and the price difference really isn't that big, I figured that I might need it. I've also been looking at the ASUS GTX 770 (2GB), but from the reviews I've read, the MSI should be better (please correct me if I'm wrong). Should I be so infinitely lucky that there's someone out there who can tell me if the H100i will fit in the front of the Define R4 with such high profile RAM as the Dominator Platinums? Or should I just stuff it in the top of the case? And can you tell me if I need additional cables for hooking up all the Corsair link supporting hardware to the H100i? I will of course be posting pics of the build process when I eventually build it! Hope you guys will respond! Thanks in advance!

I am going to buy a Fractal Design Define R4 Windowed, and I need to know if it will fit a Cooler Master Seidon 240M in the top with 2x Corsair SP120 Quiet Edition while clearing my AsRock Pro3 Z77 and Kingston HyperX Red 8GB RAM. It will be the most expensive case I have bought to date, and I need to be 100% sure it will work. Thanks!

I am starting a build with the Fractal Design - Define R4. Already ordered it, 30% off - great deal. I understand that the h100i is a great fit for this case and has good performance. Here is my situation though. I have ordered the r4 white window case and really like to balance the black & white theme on the inside of the case. Everything else is naturally black or dark inside the case so I was hoping a white themed cooling solution would really look good. I found the SILVERSTONE Tundra Series TD02 ALL-IN-ONE Liquid Cooler and it looks perfect for this application and is of good quality. My problem is I can't determine the dimensions of the r4 case (in the top where it is supposed to be radiator ready to an extent)to see if it will fit. I'm afraid it will be too thick to fit in the r4 case. I will be using a Sabertooth Z87 motherboard in the case. Any thoughts or alternative ideas on achieving this build/look? Thanks for your input.
