Hello there, I'm currently rocking a Fractal Define R4, pretty heavily modded (360 rad in the front, d5 pump and tube reservoir behind it, custom 3.5” drive mount) it has started to show its age (front panel worn out, plastic window all scratched, rattling noises) and I’m loooking for a new case. My current contenders are the 5000T from Corsair and the Evolv X from Phanteks. they are both in the same price range in my country (70$~ diff) I'm looking for a modern case, glass side, good water cooling support and good looks. I'm open for suggestions, though my country may be limited in availability of niche products. Thank you!

I have a windowed white Define R4 configured like this (image for reference, the rig is not mine): Inside are i5-4670K (currently at stock, will OC again), Asus Z87 Pro mobo, same Phanteks PH-TC14PE cooler, an Asus Expedition 1060 6GB GPU and 2 SSDs + 1 HDD in the bottom drive cage (the main cage is removed for airflow). Fan config: 2x Fractal Design Silent R2 140mm as front intake, 2x Silent R2 120mm as exaust - 1 in the back, 1 in the top back slot. While this setup isn't bad per se, I wish to improve the cooling in the case, mainly the GPU cooling (which isn't the strong point of R4). Being a fairly restrictive case because of the door which can't be taken off (I'd appreciate advice on how to do it) and dust fan system R4 has in front, it won't be easy... Anyway, my question is kinda two-fold: 1. Will I gain much by adding a 5th fan as the bottom intake, next to PSU, to blow at the GPU? It wll improve GPU cooling but it will also create more positive pressure (and the exaust fans are already smaller that intakes), and I don't know how it will interfere with intake current... Will I get anything by removing the PCI covers in the back, to improve exaust (assuming positive pressure)? 2. Let's say I replace all the fans (and use 140mm as exausts this time). Which fans do I use and where to place them? Because of restricted intake, I imagine i need fans with high static pressure in front. I can put whichever in the back, though it would be nice having a really high air flow fan in the back. Silence is not a big issue, since R4 is a silent case and I'm on headphones 95% of the time, then again I wouldn't really want monsters like CM JetFlo or Noctua Industrial IPPCs on high RPM roaring around...so, performance intakes that aren't too noisy. I need to add that the availability where I live (Serbia) is extremely bad and I'd have to order them from abroad, so I'd like to avoid high priced or exotic fans, if possible...

So this might be a bit of an odd question to ask, but I figured I would ask anyway. In the near future I'm planning to upgrading from my old 3570k CPU and I've been playing with the thought of buying a Define R6 along with it. The thing is currently I have everything running in a Define R4 case which I bought two years ago and is still in perfect condition. Honestly I love the R4, I removed the upper drive-cage and my thermals are okay, the CPU is cooled by a Dark Rock 3 and my GPU is a Palit 1070 Dual which is a bit loud but that's down to the card itself. Over the past months I really fell in love with the whole idea of tempered glass cases and really working on the insides of my rig, I'm even contemplating jumping fully on the RGB train, moving my PC from below to onto my desk and have it double as a semi-serious desk light but I feel like I would add 150€ to my upgrade expenses for something that isn't really worth 150€ all things considered. I watched many reviews about the R6 already but haven't found any direct comparison between the R4 and the R6. Would I lose any noticeable real-world performance on the noise-damping and thermal front? I know the long drive-array of the R6 can't be removed and I watched Luke's workshop video on airflow but I still feel like I might lose out on something. Also could it be that the white variant of the R6 still isn't available in Europe? I only see the various black colors in online-shops. Thanks for any input in advance

I've been putting some books, water bottles & other non-light stuff on my pc case for a while, and now I see that its top has sagged a bit. Is there a proper way to bend it back, or it's just easier to get a new one? It's a Fractal Design define R4. Maybe someone have had this problem already. Thanks. P.S. didn't think that it will be that soft, because all other parts are just dragon ass rigid.

Hey Folks, I've been having issues with a connection to a group communication app (Discord) lately. At first I thought it was the app not recognizing my input (3.5mm jack). I was partially correct in my guess - there's a fault in the front panel 3.5mm mic input connection (Output 3.5mm is solid). I popped the front panel off (Fractal Design Define R4) and everything appears to be secure, but when I mess with (Technical term for manipulate the 3.5 jack in the female receiver) it the device connects and disconnects. I'm wondering if maybe the contacts inside are faulty or possible something else is not right. The issue doesn't particularly bother me since I'll be using the backside HD Audio input from here on out, but audio was never something I had a hard grasp on. Either way, I'm not sure if anyone has an idea for possible fix with this. If so, I'd Love to hear suggestions. Gonna hit Fractal Design up on Twitter and see what they have to say. Thanks as Always,

How much space is there? Well I can see how much space there is... I mean what radiator sizes can you fit in there? Am I stuck with a 240 max or is a 280 possible?

While building my silent rig, with chosen silent components I was satisfied with the result. However my ideals got bigger and I wanted to instal a LSI MegaRAID SAS 9265-8i harddisk controller card to take care of my harddisks. I ended up attaching more and more fans to the system to keep the card from frying. At this moment my Fractal Design Define R4 is populated with 5 Aerocool DS140 (Blue) fans running at maxium speed, plus an additional RAM-Cooler of Kingston which is directly blowing air on the LSI chip to keep it's chip 51 degrees Celcius (124F). I understand that these kind of RAID-Cards originaly are used in Enterprise servers where there is a lot of airflow cooling and I have tried recommended 'silent' fans such as the famous Noctua's. However in this envoirement the Aerocool DS140 Blue's look cooler, but are just as hot and noisey as the Noctua's. I realy dont give a fungus about my CPU or GPU or PSU temps, they manage just fine and I can replace them if needed. But loosing the expensive RAID controller would be a hell for me but the noise this solution produces is not acceptable. If anyone know how I am able to cool this more quietly, I would be a happy man

So i am about to buy my build this weekend ---> http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/GVJpJx and i was wondering what alternate methods i could use from using the bottom drive cage, in my define r4, to mount my 1 HDD and 1 SSD. i am probably going to mount my SSD on the back of the motherboard area, but i am not sure where to place my HDD. As you can see i am planning to get an additional fan, but my question is: Is it worth getting another 140mm fan and removing all cages (removing middle one because of GPU size) for better airflow or save $25 and have a warmer system? i am not sure on the temperature differences it will make if i use the bottom cage and don't buy an additional fan, compared to most likely 'ghetto mounting' the HDD and buying an extra fan. I hope this all made sense and some responses would be nice, Cheers (:

Hi Guys, (Yep, I'm new here, greetings sirs & ladies) I had some thoughts & questions I'd like cleared up on the new R5 case, as I'm looking to get one, but I'm unsure of a few things in relation to the R4. Reasons for buying are many in comparison to my current 650D. [No USB3 passthroughs, quieter, modularity etc..] I'd like input from anyone that uses an R5 at the moment. (I guess technically, anyone that has also had a chance to compare the two cases) First, the top ModUVents. They're a great idea, love modularity in cases, but wouldn't their offset mounting holes theoretically let MORE sound out of the case than the R4's centered dual 120mm top grills? I would be putting a 240mm radiator up top in my R5, and I noticed that because of the offset mounting points for such a config (240mm rad or two 120mm fans), there will be a significant gap of uncovered grill space left open on the right side. Picture below to show what I mean: I appreciate the offset mounting, don't get me wrong (push/pull might work for me now with the extra added clearance from RAM heatsinks because of offsetting), but I'm surprised this area isn't able to be covered with a third narrow modUvent panel. Does this have a significant impact on the silence of the case? Second, the bottom-of-the-case fan grills (3 of them in the R5, vs 2 in the R4) Picture below**. Wouldn't the addition of an additional fan grille increase possible noise bleed from the case? Especially when that third additional grille is added right under noise-producing front intake fans and an HDDcage? Looking forward to hearing your input. My eyes are set on the R5 right now, and I don't really see myself changing my mind unless there's another equally stellar case option (although I think I've researched enough and seen most all of em'), I'm more curious on how these new design decisions affect the actual silence of the case, and why they were made. tl:dr = More holes (than R4) would mean more noise, no? Thanks all! -alex

Hi everyone! I'm new to this place I have recently decided to build a PC I have all my parts except my motherboard and GPU which arrive tomorrow. I was looking at my case to see if I had everything and I realized the box with the screws and everything was not there. I was wondering what type of screws are included and if I can use any other screws to sub the missing ones. Thanks

Hi there! I know this is my third post this week about my build, but the black Friday deals were just posted today. This is the build I plan on buying all the parts for tomorrow. I didn't expect the deals to be good, however it seemed a lot of the components I had my eye on ended up going on sale! What do you guys think of this build? I'm planning on buying a Corsair 750D but I am still not sure about whether getting the Define R4 would be better. Is it possible to soundproof the 750D and is it worth it? By soundproofing I mean putting some soundproofing foam on the right side panel as it is completely blank and by worth it I mean will it make any difference to noise and cooling.

Hello everyone, I'm struggling to chose the cpu cooler for my new build, which include the Asus x99-deluxe motherboard in a Fractal design define R4 case with a Asus GTX 980. I would love to go with the NH-D15, but I'm not even sure it can fits in the case, plus i fear it may come too close to the GPU. So I thought going for a corsair h100i cooler which can fit in the top of the case, but I fear it won't fit in this scenario because of the x99-deluxe top heatsink. Any suggestions? Any answers? Is one of my two options any good? Thanks in advance! Éric

Hello, I have a fractal R4. I have two stock fans in the front of the case exhausting air. My H80i is in the back intaking air. Is this setup ideal or is there a better setup? I originally had all my fans intaking but then I figured that was stupid and made my front fans exhaust. Thanks!

Hey guys, i'm kinda new here and this is my first modding post here. I don't know if it's just me or is there just a hand full of people modding a define r4 case. Maybe because of its clean lines and minimalist aesthetic? So this is my first mod, and i didn't have that much of a budget, i would just like to share this so that those with little cash to spend could also make their own mods. To start off, here are the specs of my pc: CPU: i7 4770k OC'ed (well not that much) to 4.0 ghz CPU Cooler: Corsair h80i RAM: G-skill Ripjaws 1866mhz 4x4gb or 16gb GPU: Sapphire r9 270x toxic edition Mother Board: MSI z87 gd65 gaming Storage: 1TB western digital black SSD: 120gb Corsair force ssd Those are the specs and boring stuffs about my build. I'll just skip to the Pictures so this first pic shows the materials i used for the mod. the orange thingy you see is a pvc tile that i will use to build my shrouds. these pics are the hdd shroud progress pics. glass sticker thingies that i printed the PSU shroud, with a mesh i cut from an old generic PSU heres the shroud attached to the build. and here are the shrouds when painted matte black. looking pretty nice there. and now for some detail shots. i added a blue strip LED from bitfenix heres the finished product with leds turned off aaanndd finally with LEDs turned on going to post glamour shots soon when i get the time... also planning to add additional r9 270x and put shrouds on it since the yellow is kinda distracting, or maybe just buy a r9 290x msi one thanks, for viewing, and i hope you guys enjoyed my build log. have a good one.
