Budget (including currency): $5k USD (or 2 equivalent gaming laptops) Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Medium Duty Gaming. No need for 4k. 60fps 1080 is fine. Light Video Editing. Other details Here's the fun part: My wife and I live on a small sailboat. I have a dream of building a single hard mounted PC that both she and I can game on as separate users similar to the "6 Editor 1 CPU" build Obvously $100000k is out of the budget range, but this is the idea. Input devices/Monitors may be anywhere from 2-20ft cable runs from the system. Power is a concern, I can run 110v power but am limited to 2000w when on my batteries, so extreme power efficiency/low power standby would be needed. Super Bonus, is there any way this can be run on a 12v system?

Hi! I am planning on making a custom arcade machine with a ryzen 5 2400g to save money on graphics and cooling. While I know an athlon 3000g could run it, I also plan on emulating wii on it and just using it for general computing. Would it be enough? (I will also be playing mc and rocket league on it with linux cuz its free. I know they're not graphically intense games but thought it would be helpful.)

Hi, I've partially damaged my monitor (LG 34UC88), but since it's ultra-wide I can still use some 70% of it. The problem is that the 30% on the side is unusable, so I don't have access to anything displayed there (Windows desktop, browser, other programmes like games). I need to set a custom resolution for the monitor, which would correspond to the native resolution (3440 x 1440), just with a portion cut out from one side (so e.g. 3000 x 1440). If I just set a different resolution in Windows then of course it still fills the whole screen, just with a forced lower resolution, so that's no help. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have a H100i platinum from corsair. My 9600k is @5gHz. Gonna upgrade to a used 9900k whenever it['s available. In a situation where my aio dies, I'm planning to get Byski parts for pump, reservoir and cpu block for like a 100$ and use the aio's rad to convert it to a open loop. Air cooling is something I've avoided for the bulkiness. Is it a good way to go?

airflow Dual Radiator Water Cooling Airflow
flexlixrup posted a topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
I have no plans to start building my new PC in a couple of weeks, possibly even months from now, anyways I‘m already playing with the possible build in my head. So now I‘ve come to a question, I really can‘t find any answers online, what’s kind of surprising to me as I thought, that’s a rather common question. Assuming I use an overclocked Ryzen 9-3950X and dual OC RTX 2080TI I think Dual 360x60 radiators provide plenty enough cooling. Now I’m thinking about where to put these. The only possible solutions are mostly one rad at the top and one at the front. Pretty much everybody suggests only using radiator fans as intakes. Is it the same for dual radiators and isn’t it a little too much positive air pressure only having one 140 as outtake at the back of the case?- 8 replies

If I build this, it will be the first computer I've ever built. I'm trying to build something that can game ok, and stream ok. I can't exactly do either at the moment because a few years ago, I was turned to the Mac side. *Note* If you try to game/stream on a MacBook air, it starts to scream and burn your fingers. I have a budget of around $525. I just want to know if this is good or should I save more money and get better components. Hey, I have started to build a desk so that I have a cleaner area for my PC and peripherals. I have the basics down but just need a little help with some of the more complicated parts of the build. I was working on the plans for it before the Rona hit and now that I'm out of a job and we're stuck at home I pulled the trigger as a project to keep me busy. First question I have is what paint to use, I'm looking for a matte black paint and want to have a finish on it that gives the desk a smoother texture and protects it from long term damage. The whole thing is going to be properly sanded down (by hand) but wood tends to keep some of its texture anyway. I'm also looking to mount a power strip into the back of the desk, I can probably figure this out, just wondering if anyone has any examples of similar things they have done. I am working on a custom clear acrylic name plate, and want to have it illuminated with an RGB strip, preferably controlled by ICUE. I'm just not sure if corsair makes any ICUE lighting strips that are meant to be on the outside of the case. If possible I'm also looking at creating a small indent on the two sides of the desk to put another RGB strip and cover it with a clear acrylic plastic to help diffuse the lighting. Ill post progress pictures as I work on this but it's going to take some time since I have very limited tools to work with and also like to try and get things to be as perfect as I can. I appreciate any tips you guys have My Current Desk and Setup: Desk I'm Building:

Hello so just 3 or 4 days ago i got a bunch of new cables from cablemod , the 24 pin connector for the psu has 2 missing pins and in reality was only supposed to be missing one, i tried it and the pc wont start , the top pin is where there should be one at but sadly no. The response i got from support said they will send a new one but after sending my information they didnt respond and i also tried to ask if it was possible to get the gold aluminum comb for them (ill pay for it , i thought i ordered it with the cable but i was wrong). What do you guys think i should do since no response has been given after. The power supply is supernova 550 g3. Image below it what i recieved

The question is in the title. In few month, I'm going to built my first water cooling custom to cool down my CPU and my GPU. (i7 9700k\asus rtx 2080 super) My project its to make a water cooling so quiet, that I can't notice if my computer is on or off. In the same time do you have a particular brand of custom loop you would recommand me ? (I will build it with rigid tube). If someone have some trick to give me about custom loop, it will be welcome ! Thank you ! Hi everyone. I've been working on designing a custom small form factor PC case made of machined aluminum since last October. Mostly, I've been talking about it on SFFNet and Reddit's /r/SFFPC. Someone mentioned that I should post it here, too, saying there was a chance someone from LMG would take note, and maybe offer advice. This is Version 0.8 (the 8th iteration). v09 is already being designed, so please give me any feedback you have about this Obligatory I'm a newbie / first post, please be gentle :3 -------- Winter One is a CFD-Driven, Cooling-optimized take on the premium Small Form Factor PC Case. Here's what it looks like: Read On To Learn More: A. CONCEPT & GOALS Winter One was designed to hit a balance between 4 main goals: Premium build quality, look, and feel with a machined, Anodized, bead blasted Aluminum enclosure. Proper cooling capability, with *viable* options for liquid and air cooling, as well as semi-passive (case fans + heat sinks), and passive (heat sinks ONLY) cooling. Compatibility with widely available parts (ITX motherboards, low-mid profile CPU coolers, full length 2.n slot GPUs, SFX/SFX-L power supplies, 240mm radiators) Sub 15L so it’s squarely an SFF case. ----------- B. CASE SPECIFICATIONS Dimensions & volume: Case w/ Feet in Vertical Position: Length: 31.5 cm Width: 15.5 cm Height: 31.5 cm (+2cm from feet) Volume: 15.38 L Case w/ Feet in Horizontal Position: Length: 31.5 cm Width: 17.5 cm (+2cm from feet) Height: 29.5 cm Volume: 16.26 L -------- C. These are *custom made* CPU & GPU Heat Sinks (Not shown yet) that are Capable of running passive / semi passive (using the case fans) inside this case. CPU SPK: AM4 / LGA Mount - 100W Passively, 170W Semi-Passive GPU SPK: Nvidia / AMD GPU Cooler Mount - 180W Passively, 300W Semi-Passive I haven't shown these off yet, but I'll be unveiling them soon. ------------ D. DESIGN Winter One is made from Billets of Machined, Bead Blasted, and Anodized Aluminum for a seriously premium look and feel. Here’s what Winter One looks like: Exterior Interior ------------ E. CFD AND AIRFLOW For Winter One, CFD was focused on: 1. Airflow through the top/bottom plates and side panels 2. Airflow inside the case, (maximizing flow, and eliminating dead zones) 3. Airflow related to the semi-passive and passive cooling modes of the heat sink. (Can't show these yet, sorry. They're being designed in conjunction with a company, and there's some NDA’s in place about not showing pre-production stuff) CFD Images Results and Improvements due to CFD: Increased hole size to make A/P > 0.3 Panel Thickness tuned to D/L of 5 Feet Height set at 2cm for adequate flow End Plate redesigned to improve outflow, reduce rebound flow. Drive Cage Optimized to Not Hinder Airflow Into Case Dead Spot of Air b/w GPU and Central Spine and PSU eliminated. Airflow Velocity within case above 30 cm/s at all times (typically b/w 50-90 cm/s) For Water cooling, operate fans / radiators in 4-exhaust mode, or 2-push/2-pull with lower temp loop at the Inlet. For Air Cooling, operate the case in 2-push/2-pull to ensure best airflow over heat sinks. -------------- F. USER SURVEY I am planning to Kickstart this case (in 1-2 months). This survey has some questions about pricing and options you’d like to see in the case. It should only take 2 minutes to complete, but it would *really help me to get more responses on it, since it let's me better understand what people want from this case CLICK THIS LINK TO TAKE THE SURVEY ------------ G. FUTURE TIMELINE tentative, subject to change (End of May) full scale 3D printed model (End of June) 2 revisions before manufacturing... (Early August) Beta Program - machined prototypes + testing the case, hardware compatibility, real life temperature / airflow testing (Let me know in the survey if you're interested). (August-September) Kickstarter will go live & Beta *reviews* will drop (October) Deliveries! ------------- So, tell me what you think! I want to know everyone's thoughts on this.

Hey guys, I've always wanted to make a custom laptop, something that I could just swap out and upgrade on a whim. Seeing as how SBCs have become increasingly popular and powerful, I was wondering if people would be interested in a "laptop shell", and the SBC within can be easily swapped as required. Something like a pitop, except it should accommodate any SBC of your choice. Since I wanted to make something for myself, I was thinking if I could get some feedback from the community if this is something that you guys would be interested in? I would be excited to start a build log here, and eventually maybe a kickstarter or something. Features I've been working on implementing: 1. Support for most SBCs (dimensions) I did some research, and figured that the rough dimensions the "shell" should support are 120mm X 60 mm, that covers the 85th percentile of all boards in SBC DB. 2. Support for most SBCs (ports) The connectivity between the "shell" and the SBC should be as universal as possible.. Display will be via HDMI (audio supported) Power to SBC can be via USB or soldered points (5V) Keyboard and touchpad (via USB) 3. Relatively long battery life I'm aiming to build in a 75Wh battery, which should net me about 9 hours of average to high load usage, and still within the 100Wh carry on limit. 4. Audio via speakers 5. In-built fan to cool down SBC 6. 2 2.5" bays After more thought I thought it'd be cool to have 2.5" bays in the chassis! Since support to boot from SSDs have been enabled for RPI 4, I thought this was a good feature to have. Thanks for reading through the idea!

Hey guys, so in the last 20 days, I got into my head to try and come up with a new custom case design. Not only to test my skills in SketchUp, as I haven't used it for years, but also to test and learn a bit more about pc case design. The idea came to me when I saw the Fractal Design Era case. and... I loved the case, honestly. It was simple, beautiful and sleek. No rgb, no glass or acrylic or any of those. It isn't to say that I dislike them, but I can overlook them pretty easily. But two things bothered me with it. Cable management was the first, the second was the airflow. So far, this is the base I've developed. A bit stuck in terms of outside design now but, what do you think? (Size is 162mm x 318mm x 359mm (WxDxH))

Electric Violet (Imgur Link) This has been an excellent experience, start to finish. I learned a ton, messed up a bunch, but at the end of the day I have a machine that I am excited to sit down in front of and game on, produce and edit with, and have as a showpiece and something to be proud of. Here is the PCPartPicker list. Sure, the 3800X isn't the best processor on the market, but it has been really fun to overclock and I am very pleased with its performance. Without going into too much detail, the AMD platform has a little bit of sentimental value for me being the processor I was given by a friend (an R5 1600) in a bad part of my life and brought me back to PC gaming and into a spectacular hobby and excellent community. I'm happy to finally call this build complete. Thank you all for coming on this journey with me, and I look forward to discussing it with all of you in the comments!

Dont know if im crazy, but a few weeks ago I saw Linus using some little device to custom print blank keycaps (On his youtube story). Does anyone have any idea as of what he was using to do it? Ive been looking everywhere for it and I havent had any luck.

I am thinking about putting together a custom keyboard, but I have some concerns and maybe some of you can help me out a bit. So basically what I want to do is build a 65% keyboard with an aluminum case and zealios switches. And now my question is: Can I just buy a pcb from KBDfans and just slap a set of QWERTZ keycaps on there and I am fine or do I miss something here? And has somebody experience with buying custom keyboard parts in the Germany area and can recommend some vendors? Or is my only option to order from the US? Thanks!

Hi all, As the title implies, I've got an idea for a laptop mod that is somewhat impractical but is just crazy enough to maybe work. In my Alienware 17 R5, I've got an extra 2240 (I think) M.2 M-key slot in my laptop that I am not going to be using for storage for the forseeable future. Additionally, on the same side of the laptop as the port is facing, I've only got one USB-A port and would like some expansion or docking capabilities. What are the odds that some adapter liek the aliexpress link below has, would be able to function? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000706475269.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.eec04e13it2pWx&algo_pvid=3c8ef2f6-19a7-4a6d-bbe6-ca59aa87f021&algo_expid=3c8ef2f6-19a7-4a6d-bbe6-ca59aa87f021-22&btsid=0ab6d67915884801557695820e54e6&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_ Imaging having a PCI(e?) 4x slot in the side of your laptop that you could plug an extension in at your desk/docking station for say usb expansion, HDD connection, or any other PCIe 4x device. Let me know what your thoughts are. Thanks, AJ

Hi Guys, So I have got a really old machine and I want to be able to edit 4K video and also play games without having to use Low settings and still get less than 30fps! lol I currently have i7-4790, 16gb DDR3 RAM, GTX 980Ti 6GB I am looking at the following for my first build: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X Gen3 12 Core AM4 CPU/Processor with Wraith Prism RGB Cooler Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO Black 16GB 3600 MHz AMD Ryzen Tuned DDR4 Memory Kit EVGA GD 600 Watt Power Supply Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8GB GAMING OC 3X Turing Graphics Card Patriot 1TB NVME The issue I am having is choosing the motherboard. I know I should probably wait for the X570 Tomahawk but I would like to see opinions on other options. I have seen bad reviews of MSI boards for VRMs so I am a little lost where to go. 5.1 audio built in would also be amazing so I don't have to get a sound card down the line. I am based in the UK and my budget is around £1500 max. Any advice would be amazing. I have watched the $900 Ryzen gaming build and tbh all the other build guides.

I have a small question regarding a system that I might build/buy so that I am ready for Quake Champions later this year :-). I’ve seen the Corsair One Pro in a webstore here in Switzerland and I couldn’t get my eye off it. I have also watched a few very positive reviews on it and it really seems to be a solid gaming machine. Because I’m a Mac guy (and my MacBook Pro certainly isn't a gaming machine) I would need to invest in an adequate gaming PC. As an engineer I really like and appreciate a solid build quality and silent machine (hence.. Mac guy). With this in mind I’m not sure whether I should buy a Corsair One Pro for about 2399 Swiss Franks or a gaming PC built by myself for about 2100 Swiss Franks (see component list in attached screenshot). My fear with the corsair one is that upgrading it later could be quite a pain. However, I’m also not entirely sure if upgrading such a system dramatically would make sense these days or if it is actually better to just buy another machine in a few years. What’s your opinion on that? Would you opt for a Corsair One or a custom built rig? What are your thoughts on the components I chose? Thanks a lot for your help!
