Hello fellow pc geeks, i was thinking, (oh god its already going wrong here). Cpu blocks are quite expensive, so how about a prefilled cooler and put a bigger rad on it? What do you guys thing?

Where can i get custom cables like the ones from cablemods in India?

Well, I have deterred from a previous thread, that my computer was thermal throttling. I have since then been able to fix this problem by buying case fans and this seems to do the trick, however, on CS:GO, if my framerates are not capped at 60 (unlimited frames, capped at 144, 201, 301, 501, etc) my CPU immediately begins thermal throttling once every minute. It cools itself off, then slowly climbs back up one degree at a time until it reaches the thermal throttle limit. It seems to be ~ 58 degrees C. If I am to disable thermal throttling in my BIOS, how badly am I going to hurt my CPU (if any) because these temperatures seem far too low compared to Intel CPUs(I have an FX 8350 at the stock 4 GhZ) to thermal throttle at. What else can I do?This thermal throttle deal only happens when my framerates are not capped at 60 FPS, which is a problem because with my 144 hZ monitor, I can't really utilize it.

I was going to buy the Streamcom FC10 Alpha which you can get for around $330 but i wont be able to cool the components down within the threshold i like with air cooling options. The problem is that in this case the only water cooling solution is to do a custom external loop. Which kills the idea of small powerhouse that i had for this build. I currently use my daily driver in a F.D. Node 304, that i consider far too large. The components that i will be cooling are: Either a 4670k @ 4.20ghz, 6700k @ 4.20ghz, or a 5930k @ 4.20 ghz. (all clocks are reasonable and the 4.20ghz is for immersiveness) A 980ti A Mini Itx Board The problem is that in the fc10 i cant fit a rad in that case(after mods) because the gpu will be in the way, blocking airflow. What i want out of the case/build: Near silence High performance w/o the footprint No fires Most importantly: Aesthetics. I have done a decently large search of cases that fit my needs and the only manufacturer that got close was silver stone, though all of the itx cases are too tall. Do you guys(the community) know of any cases that fit my needs or any companies that can custom make one that is of solid quality?

WARNING: Before you read this post, it is very long. I'm including a PCPartPicker link to my build w/o the mobo, psu or cooler, but please read my post afterwards. Thank you. Build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3b9RrH Missing parts are to be suggested in the replies. The three HDDs are only candidates - I'm only going to pick one of them, but the SSD stays. The case is also debatable - I picked it because it's an ATX Mid Tower, and has sound dampening material. GPU most likely stays. I might reuse the cooler from my current PC, it's new and good. So my current PC is doing terrible, and even the slightest CPU overclock (150x22 MHz was the max I was able to push out of my 7 year old i3 530) causes Windows to blue-screen after some time. So I thought it'd be a good time to start saving up for a new PC (budget then isn't much of a problem, as long it's not $2000, but $1200 with a bit of tolerance is my maximum) but the thing is, I haven't built a single PC in my life, because my current one is a prebuilt (except I added a normal graphics card). I had already made a thread earlier, but that one died, also leaving many questions behind, so I guess I'll start another one. I was scrolling around PC Part Picker, trying to put together a normal PC for a reasonable price. Now you may think that I'm crazy for choosing Intel over AMD in the very beginning, but after reading countless articles that AMD performs worse at the same clock speed than Intel because it does less work each cycle. Plus, I need less power consumption (which Intel is better at), less waste heat and better future-proofing. What I'm yet to pick, though, is my motherboard, cooler, case and other case add-ons (case fans, power supply, etc.). Before I present the parts I decided to pick, I want to point out that I want to run almost every game at 60fps without any stuttering. I like to have a lot of apps, background programs, like Steam, Skype, Overwolf, antivirus, lightshot, nVidia GeForce Experience (duh) and some other programs in the future - and foreground programs - Chrome, VLC/Windows Media Player for music and whatnot, File Explorer, Calculator, heck, even more that I wouldn't have to close, but that's my programs open RIGHT NOW on my PC - I'm used to having a lot of things open, but when I'm running games, I'm forced to start closing down most of the programs . Video editing? Nah, not really, though from time to time, when my sister or I have to do some sort of video, it's terrible having to wait literally MINUTES for stuff to open. So I went with an i7-4790K, mainly because it was one of the most popular picks on PC Part Picker, but also for it being a Quad-Core, has hyperthreading, Turbo Boost 2.0, and 4.0 GHz stock clock with up to 4.4 GHz Turbo Boost, and maybe well beyond that since it's unlocked (K). I currently have a GTX 650 Ti Boost with 2GB of VRAM, which is enough for playing less stressful games. Now by enough, I really mean only playable. I do usually get 60 fps out of unmodded Minecraft, TF2, LoL (though I don't play it now), Terraria, Rocket League, even War Thunder with maxed out graphics (which states that "movie" graphics should not be used for playing, heh). Games like World of Tanks, (heavily) modded Minecraft, GTA V with minimum graphics, sometimes CS:GO don't go up to 60 fps for some reason, even when they seem not to be graphics intensive. I thought getting a GTX 970, because, according to the GeForce "Relative GPU Performance", the biggest improvement is going from GTX 960 to GTX 970: As you see in this graph, going from a GTX 950 to a GTX 960 doesn't make much of a difference, and so does going from 970 to 980, though going from 960 to 970 is a HUGE increase (linearly, 3000+ higher rating). And since mostly going to a higher card, each one doubles the price, I thought a 970 was a perfect deal right there. For a CPU cooler, it was replaced from a stock one to some Hyper something from Cooler Master, and right now, it cools down extremely well even with the fan spinning at 600 RPM (max is 1600 RPM), and it makes very little noise. However, since the i7 is a lot more powerful, it will produce more heat, and thus, more cooling will be required. Is water cooling an option? I have had NO experience with it, and I'm barely wetting my feet watching videos about it. Will it be quieter if I were to spin the fans slower, and will my preffered case support it? For the mobo, as I said, I don't know. Probably an MSI Z97 PC MATE or a Z97-GAMING 5. I don't know where the money goes when buying a motherboard - don't you just put other components in it and calling it a day, without putting much effort into looking into the "features" of the motherboard? What features should I look for, then? I'm not a constantly-tweaking-everything geek, I just need a motherboard with audio, LAN and USB ports (though I'd prefer to have more of them. What motherboard supports, like, 8-10 USB ports on the back only? Most only seem to support 6, as I've yet seen). Oh, right - RAM, heh. DDR3 or DDR4? Do I really need DDR4 for the extra megahertz and jiggahertz that it has to offer right out of the box? Or is the cheaper DDR3 counterpart good enough right now? Because I currently picked a Crucial Ballistix Sport XT, 2x 2x4GB 1600 MHz for a total of 16 GB of RAM - I really feel I need that much. If I want many programs open + future-proofing, I will spend the money for that amount. For storage, and SSD is no doubt - I'm tired of the slow bootup speeds of my WD Caviar Blue hard drive, so I thought a Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB SSD is quite a good choice - I do want to put some games on the SSD aswell, not to be bottlenecked by a slow HDD. I may even purchase another one later down the line if I'm really low on space. Maybe I could buy a brand new 2TB or 4TB HDD for very heavy storage. And PSU - I have NO experience about those. I just need one that would be enough for powering my PC, that's it. You get to decide. WOW, that was one HELL of a post. I'm tired of writing it. I'll be waiting for your answers, and please follow the topic so you can see my responses and not let another post of mine die.

I want to fit a 420mm (140mmx3) radiator at the back of a 5U chassis (i'm gonna mod it) but the internal dimensions don't allow room for a radiator of that size plus the water cooling holes for it. Maybe anyone here could direct me to a product with the holes located along the top or located in a place where they would not make the over all length of the radiator more than 430mm. And no i'm not changing my plan i want a 420mm rad and goddammit i'm gonna find a way to fit one in (as you can tell I already bought most of the parts including 200$ worth of noctua 140mm fans) Ohh and maybe there is someone who would know if i could mode one i'm pretty handy with a dremel.

Hello people! Everyone on the forum seems to be really helpful, so I thought I would ask for some advice. I'm new to desktop PCs. I'd like to do my first build for under £400, including monitor, mouse, keyboard etc, which I hope is possible. As long as I can play a bit of Minecraft, use my Wacom tablet and edit a few short videos, I'm happy with whatever you guys suggest. Idiot-proof and easy-upgrade are important! (GBP £400) (CAD $800) (USD $600) £400 is a lot of money for me, nearly a months' wages. If I can get something cheaper, great. But that's the limit - maybe stretch a few pounds/dollars. No HDDs, only SSDs please - I need speed! If all goes well, I'm aiming to start the build around 1st December. I'll put a link to my progress in this post, somewhere. Thank you all in advance, I really appreciate your help. EDIT: I know it's a bit cheeky, this being for custom builds, but if I can do what I need better with a laptop, I'd like to know your thoughts. Okay so I've got a project. To build a new desk for me to use. I'm mostly a productivity based person doing productivity things on my mac (for the time being...PC build coming soon ). I have the general shape of the desk in my head and am putting it into Sketchup atm. Basically its a long and wide desk with ample space on top for a keyboard, mouse, and mousemat. In the part where people would call it a 'keyboard tray' I'm making one from scratch (already have the rails sourced) and putting a midi usb keyboard down there (since about 60% of my work that I do is music oriented). This will have enough space for a 49 key keyboard. Next to that will be a 5.25" drive bay mounting hole with rails inside the desk. I will mount a CD drive in here (at least that's what I have planned for at the moment, which may change to something else, also using a usb adapter I've sourced). On the top of the desk there will be a monitor riser to increase the height of my monitors that will span the length of the desk and have at least 8 inches of width. This will have support columns along it, and the center one will be extra wide, with integrated USB ports (I have that all figured out, dont worry) so I have easy access to usb ports on my computer. Now my question, is I will have tons of extra space on the right side of the midi keyboard tray, and I dont know what to put there. I was thinking a drawer, but then decided it'd look bad with it not being uniform on both sides. What should I put there? Thanks for any input for this question, and if you have an suggestions for other things in the desk, let me know. I'll upload a few pictures of the desk here once the cad is finished if you guys want that. Let me know! Thanks! EDIT: Here are the renderings as of September 14th at 9:42PM EST: http://imgur.com/a/Q614b

Is it worth getting custom braided PSU cables? I've wondered for a while if it's really worth it. They look so damn cool but Idk if they're worth the cost. If they make cable management easier than I'm more interested than I previously was.

HEY GUYS! This is Austin! Pixel Perfect Here. First post here on the LTT forum, if I remember correctly. (I had to make an account...so unless I logged in with Twitter before, then I've never logged in) I'm looking at doing a case mod. A very severe one. BUT FIRST, SOME BACKGROUND! I've been swooning over the design of Apple products since I was about 5. I got an iPod Nano when they first (-sih) came out. I'm now 17 and starting my last year in high school (as well as starting dual enrollment). While I love the look of Macbook Pro's and the modern iMacs, they really don't impress me. (Okay...maybe the Macbook makes me a little envious, but I'd rather have a Blade 14 2015 or something, although not being able to write software for iOS on my current laptop is annoying. No I can't hackintosh it) There is ONE Apple device that I'm truly envious over. And I finally own one. There's a problem with it, though: It can't play GTA V. Yes, I'm aware it's a Mac, but that's not really the issue, now is it. No, but really, it's an iMac g4. It's from 2003. I finally have one (although it's not the size I wanted. Then again, 17" is decent, but 20" is still better.). Mind, this isn't my main machine. My main machine is an MSI cx61 2pc-499us (i5-4210M, 8GB RAM, Nvidia GT 820M 2GB) and I sometimes have access to my parent's PC (Custom i7-4790k + 16GB of RAM, No GPU) but that access gets lower and lower as I do more and more with college. Editing in After Effects isn't fun on either. Now, the idea! I want to gut it. I want to take every single little thing out of this shell and make it modern and open. I want to take a Mini-ITX board, SFX PSU and a small GPU with a riser card, and I want to attempt to make this a workstation. Cooling will probably be an issue. The design currently relies on negative pressure, as far as I can tell. It has a fan pushing out at the top and passively pulls in air at the bottom. High pressure fans WILL and water cooling WILL MAYBE be necessary. Also, replacing the display with a laptop display would be a nice touch. Although running wires through the neck is the biggest pain in the rear. My thoughts on hardware: It depends. I'm looking at the most modern hardware and how long it would take to save up for it all. My low end thoughts have something to do with an i5-5690k and a z97 itx board paired with an itx form 960/970. If I'm going balls to the wall, i'm looking at something like the 5960X and a R9 Nano or Fury X (Although I really like CUDA) Definitely going with 2.5" SSDs though for storage. There won't be enough room for 3.5" drives and cooling, and I want the drive position to be flexible. Even if it means I have to pay $350 for 1 single terabyte. I would really love your thoughts on hardware and cooling. Now, for the part that I don't really want to write, but want the feedback on. If this project was being crowd funded, would it be something you would contribute to? Not only would it be for the PC, but you would be funding the time for making a video series on the thing. I've already got the audio gear for the thing, and I could probably dig up better cameras than my cellphone. Even my work can't fix cell phone footage. (I might even make a stretch goal for renting/buying a decent camera as well) I don't want to make a crowd funding campaign if I would get an outstanding amount of backlash. I want to make it if you all want to see something like this sooner. TL;DR I want to cut open an iMac, and this isn't the first time.

Ok so I want to make my own computer mouse. What I mean is literally design and make one from scratch not taking a bunch of mice and tearing then apart to make some sort of frakistien mouse lol. I am hoping someone here can help me or point me in the right direction. For example what kinda language do computer mice run on ex. C++ or something like that. Here is what I currently know: I took a c++ course about 3 years ago I have some experience with soldering. What I don't/need to know: Pretty much everything. How do mice work, what are the components usually found in a mouse, what language do they usually run on, etc. So all in all I don't know anything really but I want to learn so hopefully someone can help me. And yeah I know this can be a very expensive project especially if I want to go into really complicated stuff but for now I just want to know the basics.

Hi, I'm 15 and am saving up for a decent gaming computer. I mostly play World of Warcraft, CounterStrike: Global Offensive, CounterStrike: Source, Garry's Mod & Minecraft. Here is what I have come up with: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/4GtqZL think it is a good choice of parts but it will take me a fair amount of time to save the $2044 AUD I need for it. Thanks -Vaethane =)
