picking between a 7 2700x or a i310100
funnypmoment posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
tring to pick a cpu for my next build but i don't know what to go for. When i look at the benchmarks for each of them it seems like the the i310100 is what i should go for cuz of the similar price but costs a lot less but idk. if anyone could help me run this down for me like the pros and cons of each or something, the build is mainly for gaming thanks. -
I couldn't find a post with Australian prices (which are always super jacked up) so created this one. My PC is going to be used for gaming, some video editing and some 3D work. I have a b550 mb, couple of 1080p monitors (one of them 144Hz) and a 3060ti. I have sorted out everything else but just needed some help with my CPU. I could get the 3600 at around AU$320 and the 5600x at around AU$529 with a queue time of 4-6 weeks. If I pay AU$550, I could have it delivered (according to MightyApe) by 25 Jan, although idk how accurate that is. I've looked at benchmark stats and the pros and cons but still wanted to get an outside opinion. I guess my final question is, Is it worth paying $200 more for the 5600x? Or should I buy a 3600 and keep it? Or sell it when prices for the 5600x (hopefully) drop down? This is probably a stupid questions but here goes: I read that a better CPU makes less off a difference at higher resolutions so could I render the game at a slightly higher resolution with the 3600 and then downscale it to remove the CPU bottleneck or is that just dumb? Please let me know what you guys think. Thank you for your time! First time here so please tell me if I'm doing something wrong.

So I am trying to figure this out. My CPU is always at 4.2 even with light loads like web browsing. Normally it should be running at 3.6 GHz when not using heavy loads right? I checked the BIOS and made sure everything is set to default (with the exception of D.O.C.P). My power settings in Windows are set to balance and I do not have any sort of overclock set on any of my hardware. I have my hardware listed below: CPU: R7 3700X MOBO: Aorus X570 Elite Wifi GPU: 2070S KO MEM: Trident Z Neo 32GB (4 x 8GB) 3600 MHz CL 18 STORAGE: 500GB NVME, 1 TB SSD, 2TB HDD PSU: 850W Seasonic Gold Cooler: Kraken X62

My build is: b450 tomahawk arctic Xfx 5700xt Vengeance 16gb ddr4 OLD ryzen 5 1600x NEW ryzen 5 3600 750w Evga So I was seeing with the 1600x I was staying at the same frames as my 580, so I decided to upgrade, I updated my bios put the new cpu in wasn’t working tried a multitude of things to fix it, nothing someone told me it could be the cpu itself so I got a new one. That apparently wasn’t the case and now im im the same spot, I’ve reset cmos with the new cpu in there, I moved the ram to other spots and I cant figure this out... any help?

Just upgraded my Ram to 3000mhz that is certifed with my MB an x99-ud3 last upgrade for this old workhorse main question i know from Linus and Jayztwocents but when i loaded the default optimized settings for the motherboard since i wanted a fresh settings since the old ram was OC from a stock ddr4 2133mhz kit the base clock for the CPU jumped to 100.03 Mhz with the multipler being 125 i assume that is normal as i got faster ram and enabled XMP settings for the ram so i had to redo the CPU over clock to i think 37 for the core making the CPU speed 4.625 Mhz and first time me seeing this and yes i am somewhat new to most of this been playing with CPU OC since 2014 when i built the system with a 5820k got the current 5960x to 4.6ghz stable with the old ram with a Cinibench score of 4026 and with the new ram kit and some undervolting with 1.315v VCrore i got a 4029 with a 4.625ghz OC and my second question is that is this normal for task manager before i upgraded my kit task manager would show the correct clock speed but had to open hardware manager to verify clock speeds and Cosair link was up so i could have the AIO fans at 100% just for benchmarking but normal use its set to quite mode is there a way to fix task manager to have it show correct speeds if not then that sucks lol BTW i have a three monitor setup and Cinibench was running on the main monitor and had to crop the screen shot dont need everyone seeing my main desktop lol

I was curious is it hard to set up my current computer with a new processor. I plan to buy the i5 6700k but want to know if I would have to do anything in the bios or on my ssd to make it work properly. Or is it just "plug and play" after installing a water cooler.

So I'm trying to plan out a gaming build, but I'm getting frustrated at trying to find reasons for purchasing an AMD chip over an Intel chip. The sole reasons being given by the community are: its $40 cheaper comes with a CPU cooler (cheaper) good for multitasking easier upgrade path (maybe) Focusing ONLY on gaming, multi-threading, based on what all YouTube tech groups are saying, does NOTHING for games; maybe 10+ extra FPS for one or two titles, but no one is giving solid data for actual (gaming) benefits. Probably since most games seem to only use a single core (once again based on what everyone on YouTube is saying). Are people arguing for AMD simply because cost and they don't like Intel? I don't use Blender and the ONLY multitasking I plan on doing is running Discord and maybe a few tabs in Firefox in the background (and of course two antivirus solutions; I'm cybersecurity). Is it that at 1440p the differences are negligible and you just get more options with Ryzen? If thats the case, I'd love some confirmation. Everyone just seems so wishy-washy on this subject. I'd like an answer and I just want to strangle the next person who says it depends... LIIIIIIINUS!!!

Hey guys so I haven't updated my pc in years, and I wanted to play doom eternal relatively fast, and at least hit recommended specs; above are the specs for it ("Ultra Nightmare specs" is the game maxed out) supposedly the game will run on Vulkan only and helps lower end hardware but I don't wanna take chances. So I thought upgrading my MSI GTX 980 to either a RTX Super Gaming X or a RTX 2060 would make sense will my cpu bottleneck it? most importantly how noticeable will the increase in performance actually be not sure it's actually worth it? (Here is a bench mark with the i7 4790k and RTX 2060 https://www.gpucheck.com/gpu/nvidia-geforce-rtx-2060/intel-core-i7-4790k-4-00ghz/) These are my specs MSI GTX 980 i7-4790k 24gb of DDR3 pny I think Coolermaster V750 80+ Gold Thanks in advance

Hi my i7 8700k has randomly started rapidly fluctuating for no apparent reason. I've overclocked it to 4.7GHz a few months ago and a few hours a ago it has been fluctuating from 4.7Ghz all the way down to 1Ghz and everything in between. It is fluctuating whilst idling and when I play games it continues and my whole pc freezes. My temps are around 37c which are normal and I have no idea why it is doing this, any help would be appreciated. Thanks Edit: its is now fluctuating around 1-2GHz Edit #2: my CPU temp has risen to 80c+ (from mid 30s) at idle and I haven't done anything to cause this

On my PC I have a i5 7400 processor with a RX 580. I'm deciding if I should sell the 580 and get a 2060S or sell the i5 and get a new CPU. Would I need a new CPU or go for a GPU upgrade and how long would the i5 last for specs in gaming?

Hey everyone, so I may be overreacting. Haha. I've rebuilt my first computer that I originally had built through Cyberpower PC about 6 months ago after I learned a little more about pcs and that they skimped out on more than a few key components. I got a new motherboard, power supply, ram and CPU cooler. The parts now are as follows: i9 9900k, Nvidia EVGA ultra gaming OC 2080super graphics card, MSI MEG z390 Ace motherboard, Samsung 860 EVO m.2 1tb SSD, Corsair RMx 1000 PSU, 32 Gb 3600hz Trident Gskill ram and Noctua dh15s CPU cooler). My CPU temps seems to run high (42-45 at idle, which from what I've read, that cooler should be more than enough for stock clock speeds. That may be wrong also. Haha) and I'm not sure if I've done something wrong when installing the cooler. It seemed odd to me that when I installed the cooler, it was already making contact with the CPU. Is that normal? Also, I've tried reseating it and it didn't seem to make a difference, but again, this is my first build and I'm not sure if I made a mistake when installing in the first place. Could it be the ambient temp in my room? It is quite warm. I would love some advice or things to try.

Hello everybody. I need your help on what to do. My current build is i5 2500 (non K version), 8 GB DDR3, GTX 680, 650W 80+ bronze, Samsung EVO 850 500 GB. Most of the time I play games ( Rocket league, Fortnite, some newer AAA games that I can run), do some programming (unity, android studio, visual studio). But usually what I like to do is run a twitch stream on the secondary monitor, and play games or do work on the primary. Now I haven't followed lastest that AMD or Intel has to offer since I didn't want to upgrade, but lately, I've felt slight hiccups and slowness. I still prefer Intel and would like to stay on it, but if you can convince me otherwise, I'm willing to listen. What I'm looking for is around i5 8500 budget for a CPU. The problem is I don't know if it's worth getting i5 8500 or should I get something else like older 6000,7000 series, or wait maybe for 9000 series!? Also, I'm not sure if I should look for more cores or better clock speed with fewer cores for what I do. I haven't done any overclocking in my life, and I'll do it if I have to, so overclocking is not something new CPU has to have. I don't have to buy anything right now, I'm not in the hurry. If I missed some info, please tell me, I'll answer.

Hi. I need a need processor for my pc but i'm not sure which one I should buy. I've asked before about i7 5930k vs 5820k vs 6700k vs 6800k, and many was said i7 6700k or 6800k. I'm not sure which one i should get so I hope that you can help me. I'm mostly gaming and video editing, but 90% is gaming. My plan in the future is maybe to video editing in adobe premiere pro cc but i'm not sure yet. i'm also looking for a good cooler to the processor, so maybe have some suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Hi. I have been asking before about i7 5930k vs i7 5820k vs i7 5700k vs i7 5800k, and many of you were saying i7 6700 or i7 6800k. So i'm just asking one more time if I should get the 6700k or 6800k. Most of my time i'll be using it for gaming or video rendering, but mostly gaming. Maybe you also have some suggestions about some motherboards (LGA 2011-3 or LGA 1151) maybe also some suggestions regarding RAM? Thanks in advance ;D

Im building my first pc and i already decided on the parts. Except the cpu, skylake or Haswell-E? I also have some mobos picked out for each. Im pretty much on the brink of my budget, but the cost difference is so small i dont care if i spend more.

So I have custom built computers for a long time, and in all my builds, the CPU that I ALWAYS use is an AMD CPU. I have long been a loyal fanboy of AMD for a while, but recently I have heard a lot about Intel CPU's from my friends, specifically regarding their core i3, i5, and i7 chipsets. I would like to put together a custom build for myself, but while I have an understanding of the AMD chipset, I know close to nothing at all about Intel chipsets. I was looking around at different games for PC, most specifically the Witcher 3. Looking at the minimum specs, I see that the CPU should at least, be a core i5 2500K @ 3.3 GHz. A friend of mine has an i5 4590 and says it works on his. I see that the i5 4590 is less expensive, and seems to be a more budget friendly CPU, compared to the i5 2500. Could anybody please link me to an article, or a video please, explaining the difference in Intel chip sets so I can see what chip sets are best for what. While I have been googling for a while now about them, I have come to no real discernible conclusion yet. Thanks in advance for any help.

Ok so I need some help.  I really wonna upgrade my whole system i,e CPU GPU motherboard ext. I have just bought a "Radeon R9 290 TRi-X oc" for gaming (doh) I bought this card mainly because of the price point less than £200 (second hand) And because of the review by Linus Sebastian . This topic is to help me shop/setup further. Firstly CPU: I currently run a unlocked "AMD FX-4130" (unclocked as I wouldnt know were to begin) And bought a few years back because well the guy at the shop said I should  . I have been looking at the "AMD FX-8350" only because its an 8 core and seems better than what I have. Is this a good upgrade or should I look at something else? I refuse point blank to sepend stupid amounts of money (stupid to me anyway) So my buget is like £100-£130. Second Motherboard: Currently I use a "Gigabyte GA-78LMT" I have no idea what would be a good budget replacement. Should I even upgrade? Thirdly PSU: I use an "Artic Red+ 750w" Dont think I need to change this anytime soon. Forthly RAM: I have 8G dual DDR3 at 1333MHz by "zeppelin" I know faster is better  Fifth CPU Cooler; I have bought (not yet recieved) a "Be quiet Dark rock pro 3" Because it has great cooling looks awsome and dosen't cost the earth ot liquid cooling prices. So I think thats all, I dont know what else I need just now. As am sure you can all see I dont know that much about computing. I have a basic knowledge and understanding. And I am on a tite budget. I dont do brands ie I dont need all my hardware to be "Corsair" I am happy to go less popular brands like "Zepplin" I want to run the latest games such as "Fallout 4" "Black ops 3" the new assasins creed ect. This machine will be for gaming only nothing more. I use other machines for well other things. Help guys I have no idea were to look what to get or what the hell do  And I must apologize if this post is all over the place and makes little sence.

Hello. Can anyone provide a link to a PCPartPicker list for a PC that can run Skyrim or DR3 or games close to that on high or medium settings for about $550 or $600. I really need it on pc partpicker. And I do need a network card or a built in one. Thanks, Zentorno

working on my grandads old desktop opened it up to blow some dust and changing the cooling goo. and now the cpu fan wont spin. the power works because the hdds spins up. it for some reason starts at once you connect a power cable to it. and i get no signal error on the screen for it. on top there used to be an weird piece of cooler master plastic which i have removed for troubleshooting purposes. i use a brand new vga cable btw. i can't seem to locate any sort of light bulb on the motherboard.
