So i was watching the "CPU cooling with boiling liquid" video and when linus showed the cooler at 3:30, it got me thinking, would it possible for a liquid cooler system that could generate steam and drive a small fan that would in turn generate power. Let me explain the thought process. The cooler looks like a very small nuclear reactor, and if you are familiar with how a nuclear reactor power station works you would know that the boiling water in the reactor makes the steam that drives the turbine that generates the power. So what if you applied that same process to a cpu cooler, You have a tank of water that sits on top of the cpu, the heat from the cpu boils the water in turn making steam then that steam is pushed through a fan that would act as the turbine and generate power. Now obviously this doesn't take into account that you need power to get the cpu to heat up or the fact you would need an endless supply of water to the tank that sits on the cpu, but its still fun to think about. Let me know what you guys think.

I have a gaming laptop (Acer Predator 17X GTX1080), I want to put a better thermal pad or paste on the CPU but I don't want to accidentally tighten the screws too much during reassembly. The screws have a spring over them, but what is the rule of thumb for tightening it and what else should I watch out for? I'm aware that Laptop cooling can be a bit weird, but my thermals are getting too high and I already tried cleaning out the fans and heatsinks but its still hot, 85+ C. I also have an external fan blowing into the intake of the laptop, not much help.

Hi Everyone Please can someone assist me with understanding why the idle temps on my 6700K is so high. Below is some info and background to the problem (all temps are in Celsius). Let me know if you need anything further. Thanks! System is about 2 years old now Ambient temp is approx. 24 degrees CPU package idle temp is approx. 45 degree I'm pretty sure it used to idle in the 30's when I first built the system I recently migrated my system from a Corsair 760T chassis to a NZXT H440i but the temps were high even before that (so I'm sure that's not the issue) I swapped the stock fans on the H115i cooler for Corsair ML140 Pro fans (unsure of effect on thermals) I swapped the stock thermal paste for Cooler Master MasterGel Maker thermal paste (brought the temp down about 10 degrees) H115i pump is set to quiet (should this be set to performance all the time?) H115i fans are set on a custom fan curve linked to the temp of the liquid (liquid is currently sitting at 35 degrees) CPU is not overclocked and voltages are set to default I noticed that the CPU is constantly turbo-boosting to 4.2GHz even when I'm not doing anything (is that normal?) GPU idles in the mid-to-high 40's (50 degrees max) Weird thing is that when I run a game, the CPU temp doesn't spike too much, it rarely goes over 70 degrees (which I think is fine?) System summary: Intel Core-i7 6700K Corsair H115i CPU cooler with Corsair ML140 Pro fans NZXT H440i chassis with stock case fans MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard Asus ROG GTX1070 Strix OC GPU

Hi all, I have a Dark Rock Pro 4 and it comes with a 120mm fan for pushing and a 135mm one for pulling air to the back of the case. By default, they're connected to the CPU fan header on the mobo through a fan splitter. Now, I want to replace the push fan with something else. The thing is the new push fan spins faster (at 2000 rpm) than the 135mm pull (not sure but apparently maxes out at 1200 rpm). I would like to know if it's the splitter cable is going to limit the new fan so that it doesn't run faster than the 135mm, and if not, would this push-fan-faster-than-pull-fan situation be fine for cooling? I heard there could be some blowback when the cpu fan speeds are not in sync. Thanks for your help!

Hi there, Long time watcher, first time poster, So yesterday i found myself in dire need of a better cooling solution for my girlfriend's PC after seeing her CPU constantly hitting 60°C-75°C while gaming with a loud noise from the dinky Deep Cool CPU cooler(generic $15 air cooler) to accompany it. I was checking through my spare parts for a better 50mm fan when I noticed i still had my old Cooler Master V8 GT air cooler. Short story of the V8 GT cooler: Bought it back in 2014 for next to nothing because owner was getting a smaller case and I used it in my main PC up to June 2018 when the fans started getting noisy and beyond the point of logical repair, it was promptly replaced with a Cooler Master Masterliquid Lite 240 Dual Radiator AIO Cpu Cooler. I removed the old noisy fans, and replaced them with 2 generic $2, 120mm case fans using only cable ties to tighten the fans and cooler (as recommended by Linus in the GPU fan replacement video) fitted it easily onto my girlfriend's motherboard and the results were beyond astounding, IT DESTROYED THE AIO WATER COOLER IN MY PC WHEN I TESTED IT! The idle temperature dropped from about 50°C to around 27°C and under stress test it went down from max 82°C to no more than max 53°C whereas the Cooler Master Masterliquid Lite 240 was hitting upwards of 80°C while under stress test. The PC Specs are as follow: My PC: While gaming I get about 48°C-55°C CPU: Intel i7-3770 @ 3.4 GHz CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Masterliquid Lite 240 Motherboard: J&W Z77A ProX Ram: 16GB @ 1600Mhz (2X 4GB Corsair Vengeance RAM + 2X 4GB Hynix RAM) GPU: Gigabyte 1070 G1 8 GB PSU: Corsair VS750 Storage: 1X Intel 120GB SSD + 1X Samsung Evo 850 500GB + 1X WD Blue 1TB HDD Case: Cooler Master Cosmos S Full Tower Case Cooling: 1 X Deepcool 120mm intake fan at bottom front panel + 1 X Cooler master Sickleflow 120mm intake fan bottom of case + 1 X Deepcool 120mm exhaust fan at rear of case + 3 X Raidmax NV-A120R3 RGB exhaust fans at top of case. Girlfriend's PC: When gaming she gets about 37°C-41°C CPU: Intel i7-4790 @ 3.6GHz CPU Cooler: Cooler Master V8 GT Heatsink + Mounting + 2 X 120mm generic case fans (VERY GENERIC - COST $2 each.) Motherboard: MSI H81m-P33 ATX Ram: 1 X Kingston 8GB RAM @ 1600 MHz GPU: Zotac GTX 1060 AMP! Edition 6 GB PSU: Bitfenix 850W Storage: 1 X Crucial 540 GB SSD + 1 X Toshiba 1GB HDD Case: Cooler Master Cosmos S Full Tower Case Cooling: 1 X Cooler master Sickleflow 120mm intake fan at bottom front panel + 3 X Deepcool 120mm exhaust fans at top of case. I took some screenshots for reference between my system and my girlfriend's, and although I would like to swap out both CPUs and test them with both the AIO cooler and the home made cooler, but would like some advice on any variable to eliminate besides just swapping out the 2 coolers to see which is the better performer?

I am using i9-10850k (not overclocked yet), cooling cpu with Kraken x73 and after 5-6 minute stress test (with program prime95) on all 10 cores 100% usage, my CPU temperature suddenly jumps from like a nice average of 70 up to an average 95 (90-99) celsius. Is this normal? Is this test okay? normal? is this how it should behave? I don't know I never did these tests before:D You see I started stress test at 9:52, then I stopped at 10:04 (I did a more bit extra test after too thats why those jumps) So is this normal that the temp is okay for 5 minutes stays around 70 celsius, then suddenly jumps up (I guess when the water is heat up in the AIO), to 90-99 , then the temp doesnt go lower even if the CPU throttled back to 3.6.3.8 GHz?

So I recently acquired an i7 2600k w/ an Asus P67 Sabertooth mobo and a case, but it still had the box cooler (after 8 years) which kept it at ~50 degrees C idle and went straight to 100 under load. The TIM was completely solid and there wasn't much left I was wondering what would be the best cooler I can get for under $75 AUD. So far, i've looked at things like the Hyper 212 Evo and the CRYORIG M9 Plus but I'm not entirely sure which one is best (not just those two) while not being too expensive I also wanted to get a 4GHz overclock on it if possible. I've heard that many people got them past 4 and even 5 but I just want to overclock it a bit because of longevity. If anyone could give me a few pointers that would be awesome. Other stuff: I have an antec P183 with 2 pull fans in the front, one on top and one in the back. My room also gets pretty hot in summer (maximum 35 C) but is also cool in winter (20 C). I guess you could factor those in for things like airflow and ambient air? Not sure if it matters too much. Thanks, Mounika

Hello all, So I own the Dell XPS 8910 Tower Special Edition. Originally it had the i5-6400 in it, but recently I purchased an i7-6700K to put in it. However, I know that the K model is a 95W CPU versus the 65W i5-6400. The way the PC is built, the power supply is pretty close to the CPU. I was wondering what the easiest and most efficient way to cool the 6700K would be? Looking for air cooling preferably.

I'm planning to replace my cryorig H7 cooler that I have for the 7600K for a AIO liquid cooler, my plan is to go for a Corsair AIO cooler, just to keep the other Corsair brand components I have in sync, but I'm not sure of the actual difference performance between the h115i and the h115i PRO, I know the pro has a generation 6 pump or something like that, but when I search for benchmark I get mix result thank to fan configurations, im going to replace the fans with a pair of 140mm ML Corsair fans anyway an also the coolers are exactly the same price (but I personally don't like the looks of the pro...) So, what would be the better option to buy? And is there any difference in performance at all thanks to that new pump?

I recently purchased 2 intel xeon e5-2650 v3's for a workstation build, and I want to know if there is a delidding tool for haswell EP CPU's if there is send me a link to where I can buy one (preferably on amazon or newegg), thanks EDIT: Topic closed; I found out that lga 2011-3 is the same size as lga 2066 so a delid die mate 2 is the best solution

Helllllo! i have an issue. i have a ryzen 5 1600x and i started a extended and normal pcmark 10 test, and found out that my CPU cooling seem a bit iffy. Considering i have a Noctua NH D15 cooler these cooling results i gtom from pcmark ten are wrong i i havent applied enough thermla paste, also MSI afterburner was on so if that more trust worthy i will state the results i got from that too. i got abot low sevntie to mid sevnties in things like photo rendering and visulisxation, nearly eighty in rendering and visualisation, and the same in the firestrike combined test , is this bad> or bnormal?sorry fro bad eniglish? by tye way my gpu cools beter than my cpu

My CPU fan just started to make noise and in idle my CPU is for the most part at 50 C so i thought about getting a new fan for my CPU but the problem is i don't know what to choose. I need a good fan that is silent and have good airflow. My motherboard is an Maximus VII Hero.

i recently bought a new pc and i wanted to overclock it. (specs): CPU: i7-8700k Mobo: ASUS ROG STRIX z370 - F gaming RAM: Hyperx fury DDR4 8GB (i'm planning to get more but the prices right now are horrendous :/) PSU: Corsair RM850x Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 Here's the issue: I get absurd temps on my CPU. when running small FFS on Prime95 it instantly reaches 100 degrees and throttles down. Is that normal? i'm pretty sure i mounted the cooler correctly, i get around 30 degrees on idle and about 60 while running Blend (Prime95). When i tried overclocking i couldn't get a stable 5.0 GHZ even when i set the voltage to 1.420V. Also i noticed that in CPU-Z and in BIOS/UEFI the CPU didn't get the voltage i actually set, but around 0.02V lower. when running Cinnebench the voltage lowered even further, to as far as 1.28 (from 1.40 while i set 1.42 in BIOS) Is all of that normal and i just came last in the sillicon lottery or is something wrong with my CPU? (or i'm just doing something wrong?)

Hey folks, Recently, I've been looking to update my PC to an AIO water cooler for the Threadripper 16-core I will soon get. I will mainly be using this system for 3D rendering in Max and VRay along with UE4. As a result, these long sessions of 100% CPU usage (potentially 2+ hours) has pushed me to buy a cooler to fit my needs. After doing some research, I have found that AIO liquid coolers often have pump failures after 8-12 months and 1-2 weeks of down time could kill a contract for me if I have to get a cooler RMA'd. I found this was true on the H100i (gtx and v2) and the Kraken X62 and X52 which both appear to be popular coolers. Are these reviews just people getting unlucky with faulty pumps or is this is a serious issue I should be considering?

Hello everyone, I have ordered some upgrades for my pc(gtx1060 6gb/z370 mo-bo/p400s case/16gb ddr4 ram/corsair vs550) I also had ordered an i5 8400 which I now canceled since I am looking in getting a 8600k instead. The only problem is that I dont have any idea about cpu cooling and Ive looked at some air and some water solutions not sure which is gonna be more efficient for overclocking that bad boi. Thanks alot in advace!
