Hey guys! I'm disabled Cortana a while ago and I am trying to re enable it... however I can't seem to find where to do that. When I don't have access to the notebook icon and the only mention of cortana settings don't contain anything useful: Thanks!

Original article from Forbes: Why Siri, Alexa And Cortana Will Destroy SEO People cannot spend the time to look for good resources and answers, sometimes they just need answers. Also, we don't want new businesses that are really good at what they do to have to compete by hiring Google-tactic teams to get 1st page results on Google against bad-product and bad-advice companies and pages. So, the author proposes that Google is not certain in today's changing world because it doesn't answer your questions, it just guides you to the best e-content by a method that isn't suited for the searcher's purpose as much anymore. Relevance: Google may potential face popularity problems in the future if it does not adapt. Good luck using Siri to find those cat pictures when she thinks you said "hat pictures."

Hi guys, I came back from a week-end away yesterday to find out that a new anniversary update on Windows 10 brought up all the Cortana features without asking me. I disabled everything before the update, but now, the Windows 10 search bar seems to be only displayed with Cortana... I tried to look everywhere in the settings, I deactivated everything related to Cortana, but I still can't have the classic search bar without that stupid ridiculous shit. Am I missing something here ? Thanks in advance

Read this thread if you believe that the NSA is listening to you via Cortana. It is astonishingly easy to disable Cortana (well, not even close to as easy as it should be, Microsoft needs to get it together) Before you read this thread you should know that we will be changing the Windows registry which can lead to some irreversible problems if you are careless, that said, these are very straight forward instructions, anyone can do it! Step #1: -Go to the settings for Cortana and disable everything that has to do with Cortana. This step is not necessary but if you believe in being extra careful, do this. Step #2: -Enter the windows registry editor by holding down the start menu key and pressing 'r', and then type in 'regedit', press enter and when a dialog box appears, press 'yes' -In the registry, navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\ -Now that you are at the 'Microsoft' folder, right click the 'Windows' folder and select New>Key, name this key 'Windows Search' -All you have to do now is right click the 'Windows Search' folder and select New>DWORD (32-bit) Value and, name it 'AllowCortana', now double click it and make sure the value is set to 0, and it's a hexadecimal (not sure if it has to be) Step #3: -Finally you are ready to get rid of Cortana, all you need to do is a restart and you will now be back to the good old "Search Windows" bar *It is important noting that if you want to get Cortana back in the future, it is as easy as navigating back to the 'AllowCortana' file, double clicking it, setting the value to 1. If that fails, just delete it. Microsoft, there is a huge number of people who hate Cortana, just make it easier to disable! I don't check back in here regularly, but when I do I would be happy to answer any questions!

Can you disable "Cortana" after Windows 10 anniversary update?
KickinGravy posted a topic in Windows
So as many people are already asking, is it possible to disable Cortana after the new upcoming update for windows 10? That is what I want to know, because I HATE Cortana so much, I find it to be intrusive and annoying that I have no input as to what I can and can not have running or installed on my PC. This is one of many things about windows 10 I really hate. So please anyone with info on how to disable Cortana post what ever you know to help myself and others find a way to disable it.- 37 replies

I have no idea why this is the case. So I built my very first system a while back. Got a fresh copy of Windows 10 Pro off of Kinguin. Every ran fine. Cortana was there, but I never really used it (or her) much. A week later, I try using the search bar. As I'm about to type, I see an error message labelled: Before I can help, you'll need to go to Settings and change your speech language to one I can speak. I've actually seen this error message on my old HP laptop which I used to use before this new machine. That system had actually been a refurbished unit, so I had assumed that it was a result of buying a recertified product. Now I see this message again on my new PC. It was fine until just today. No matter what I do, I can't seem to be able to fix this. I live in Canada, and I currently have English (US) and English (Canada) as my languages in Windows. Cortana can't speak English? WTF? I've tried $manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest in Powershell. I've tried ending the "Cortana" task in Task Manager. I've tried downloading language packs, and I've tried switching between different versions of English. Nothing seems to work. Please help. It was working fine before - I have no idea why it's not now.

Guten Morgen/Nachmittag/Abend/Nacht! OK so I have a Dell 5547 i7 running windows 10, Synaptics version 19.0.15.2 Most of the time, a three finger up swipe opens the multitasking view (equivalent to WinKey+Tab), and a down swipe returns to the normal view. However, the touchpad randomly decides that Cortana > Multitasking, and opens her up, while a downward swipe opens the settings (WAAAT). It also randomly fixes itself. I was initially running the updated driver chosen by windows 10, but decided to downgrade to the above mentioned driver found on dell's website, hoping it would resolve the issue. No dice. Before anyone asks, yes I've tried turning the touchpad off and on again. Current settings:

So, i decided to do a clean install of 10 earlier this week, things have only gone downhill since. Firstly when I boot, explorer doesn't open properly. The taskbar stays with only the Windows logo, search icon, keyboard icon, and language switcher on it for about 10 minuets after login, then once it does load, Start nor Cortana will open. Nothing happens. Secondly, when I open task manager, it hangs for about 5 seconds normally (no big deal) or 2-3 mins when I actually need it (if explorer crashes or GMod refuses to launch) Am I doing anything wrong????

I've posted on Reddit but I've had no luck there, so I'm making my first ever post to the LTT forums after being a long time lurker hoping that somebody can help me sort this problem out! Here's my issue -> http://i.imgur.com/zpHsqcY.jpg I’ve already tried the stuff shown here http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-fix-windows-10-search-issues-by-rebuilding-index/, have also tried this http://www.howtogeek.com/222532/how-to-repair-corrupted-windows-system-files-with-the-sfc-and-dism-commands/) and some of the things mentioned in this thread on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/3mergr/cant_find_start_menu_items_via_search_anymore_any/. I've also tried going to a restore point, my earliest one which was about a week old, and that didn't fix things. It's weird because yesterday morning it was working fine, then in the afternoon it wasn't. I didn't install anything new in that time so I'm just windering what is actually going on. Is there a fix out there? Because it’s beginning to get a bit annoying. Microsoft Support were also no help, they went through the tings I tried and then said that it would require their £95 premium support to which I was like, no. Thanks for reading, hope somebody out there can help me! If not I think I'll just do a fresh install because it's kinda bugging me.

Microsoft's digital 'personal assistant' Cortan is available in Windows Phone 8.1, Windows 10, Android as in Beta, and as for iOS it is coming soon. However, Microsoft partnered with Cyanogen, to do like Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile, to deeply integrate it to the Cyanogen OS for smartphones, to provide full features of Cortana in your hands. Cyanogen CEO Kirt McMaster said: Previously, Microsoft and Cyanogen announced that Bing services, Skype, OneDrive, Office and more would be bundled with Cyanogen OS. Article from Pocketnow Blog entry by Microsoft It's about time they make it available as a public beta. I've been using the unfinished app since it was leaked out and have been depending on APKMirror for the updates, which was a bit of a hassle. I hope Microsoft will improve Cortana's app launch speed. Totally looking forward to that one. Link to Cortana for Android beta program And I just found out that it's not available here in Canada. Bummer.

Hi guys, I've got a pretty specific problem. After I upgraded to Windows 10 I dialed in my settings like I want them to be, this includes also removing some folders from Indexing for the search (btw, I did this on all my pcs and notebooks, and only on my main system this problem occured). The first day worked fine, but since after when I search for options from the settings-app they won't show up, neither in start menu search nor in settings-app search itself, only settings from the old control panel appear. I can acces those options in the settings-app, but I dont want to have to click through those menus all the time, I just want to search for what I need and get to open it. What I tried thus far: - sfc /scannow - troubleshooting for Indexing, which comes up with incorrect permissions for the search folder what I cant seem to be able to fix - rebuilding index - reregistering the settings-app - creating a new user in hope for recreating the search It is almost impossible to search for this specific problem, so I hope someone can help me with this one, since the last thing I want to do now, is reinstalling windows because of a faulty index.

Hey, I just installed windows 10 and noticed that whenever I use Cortana (either trough "Hey Cortana" or by clicking the mic-icon) my microphone's volume level is automatically set so low that Cortana won't understand what I say. I already tried disabling the "allow applications to control this device exclusively"-box but it didn't help. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! ^^

Cortana, Microsoft's personal assistant is due for release on 29th July, alongside Windows 10. However at launch it is only going to be released in certain countries: the U.S., UK, China, France, Italy, Germany and Spain. Before now we didn't know the reason for this; after all why would you exclude countries such as Canada where the majority of people speak French or English anyway? Microsoft has finally given us an answer: So Cortana will supposedly have an understanding of the nation's humour and culture, enhancing the experience compared to Siri or Google Now. What version you get is not controllable at launch however. As much as the personality sounds exciting, especially to myself, an android user, who is used to the emotionless Google Now; I do hope they don't overdo the Britishisms. I will kill Cortana if she tells me to go and have a cup of tea. Source

I have had many occasions where assistants on my devices have activated at times when they should not have... For example I was watching The Office and they were saying WUPHF repeatedly and Cortana on my PC activated and opened a bing page about helicopters. I am curious to know what else sets off the personal assistants, so please share your story below!

Yesterday Lenovo held a briefing before their first Tech World event (which happened today) in Beijing, and in this briefing Lenovo revealed the integration of its REACHit service with Microsoft's Cortana in Windows 10. REACHit is part of Lenovo's "DOit Apps" family. It is a free app, designed to make it easier to transfer and manage files between different cloud storage services like Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive, on different decvices, like smartphones, tablets, and PC. It's already available to download for Windows and Android, with IOS version coming soon. For more, you can take a look at this review from CIO.com, or this article from Lenovo's blog... http://www.cio.com/article/2850793/mobile-apps/lenovo-reachit-manages-files-across-cloud-accounts.html http://blog.lenovo.com/en/blog/how-to-use-reachit-lenovos-newest-app-to-manage-your-cloud In the briefing Lenovo showed the what Reachit can do with Cortana on Windows 10. Lenovo collaborated with Microsoft on this integration. Reachit will first index all yr files in your devices, emails, and cloud storage services that you allowed Reachit to access to. Then it will develop multiple contexts for the files, like such as File Type, File Actions, Location, Calendar Events, and time frames. These contexts are depends on how much information you allow Reachit to access, like calendar and location services. Then if when a question is asked through Crotana, Reachit will try to look for words associated with contexts in the question. For example in the briefing a prompt “Where is the presentation I was working on at Starbucks last week?” was used as a demo, and Reachit recognized words in the question that associated with contexts like file types ("presentation"), file action ("was working on"), the geolocation ("Starbucks") , and the time frame at which these operations took place ("last week"). Note that all these operations happens within Cortana. Cortana will not launch Reachit as a separate app to do the search. Instead Cortana will be working in the background with Reachit to provide your answer. Also at this moment there is no external API access to this service. There is no live demo for this service in yesterday's briefing, but there is a live demo in today's Tech World event. You can see it here: Also from this video it seems Reachit with Cortana is working in Chinese as well. If you have security concerns about giving Lenovo access to all of your files, and the index files and other information will be hosted on Lenovo’s cloud, Lenovo stated that there is encryption on Lenovo’s server side, but they couldn’t get into any further details about this. Lenovo expects Reachit service available at Windows 10 launch, and it will only be available in Lenovo computers. There is no other option for running searches for those Lenovo computers with this installed. If you are a Lenovo user, you can signed up for the private beta at Cortanareachit.com . http://www.pcper.com/news/General-Tech/Lenovo-Tech-World-REACHit-Announced-Cortana http://www.ubergizmo.com/2015/05/lenovo-reachit-takes-cortana-content-search-to-new-heights/ http://www.pcworld.com/article/2927415/lenovo-integrates-reachit-and-cortana-into-one-giant-cross-device-search-tool.html

Microsoft is currently working on bringing its digital assistant, Cortana, to Microsoft Office. The company is currently testing a “Work Assistant” app that is designed to use Cortana to open up, edit and share documents using voice commands. The application is just a prototype right now, but sources familiar with company plans spoke with The Verge and said that the intention was to integrate Cortana into Office across all Windows 10 platforms. This does mean that Cortana could also come to the Android and iOS versions of Microsoft Office. Last year it was also reported that Cortana would hit other operating systems eventually as part of Microsoft’s long-term strategy for the digital assistant. The last time Microsoft added a digital assistant to its Office suite we ended up with Clippy, which some of you will surely remember from back in the day. Microsoft has been working on and improving Cortana for some time now and will continue to do so throughout the Windows 10 technical preview cycle, before the final release of the OS later this year. Literally half of my friends have ps4 and half have the xbox one, however I spend most of my time playing pc games. I understand the whole pc master race thing however I would like to play with my friends. So I am most likely going to get a ps4 due to better specs, but I was wondering what exactly the windows 10 conference said about cross platforming and the benefits of having both windows 10 and an xbox. If it isn't worth it I will probably buy the ps4. (also if there are any sales for either of the consoles please let me know) Thanks

THIS IS NOT A REPOST. This post is about new features of Microsoft Spartan browser features! Microsoft is planning to radically overhaul its web browser in Windows 10. Sources familiar with the company’s Windows plans tell The Verge that the new browser, codenamed Spartan, will include a host of new features not found in rival browsers. Chief among the plans for Spartan is new inking support that allows Windows 10 users to annotate a web page with a stylus and send the notes and annotations to a friend or colleague. The web note service will be powered by Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud storage, meaning notes will be stored on a copy of a web page that can be accessed by any browser across multiple platforms. As annotations are shared, multiple users can doodle on a web page and share edits and annotations between groups. A second major feature for Spartan will be the integration of Microsoft’s Cortana digital assistant. Microsoft is planning to use Cortana to surface information on flights, hotel bookings, package tracking, and other data within the traditional address bar. If you use Cortana to track a particular flight and start to search for "American Airlines" in the browser address bar, it will automatically display tracked flights and allow Spartan users to view the status of the flight directly. It’s a subtle addition, but you’ll also be able to access Cortana search directly from the new tab interface in Spartan. Cortana integration in the Spartan browser is planned to replace every instance of the existing Bing methods in Internet Explorer. Other features include a new way to group tabs together to declutter the occasionally messy interface of multiple browser tabs. Spartan will allow users to group tabs however they want, making it easier, for example, to split up personal tabs from work ones. Microsoft also originally planned to allow Spartan to support custom themes, but we understand the company has dropped this for the final new browser in Windows 10. Such support may arrive in future updates. Spartan is designed to be a single browser across PCs, tablets, and phones. Microsoft will make Spartan a Windows Store app, enabling the company to quickly and easily update the browser in future. ZDNet previously reported that Microsoft will continue to include Internet Explorer in Windows 10. Spartan is the main browser in Windows 10, and most users will be accessing the web using it. While Spartan will be a Windows Store app, Microsoft isn’t planning to make it a universal app initially. One version of Spartan will be available in the Store as a desktop app, and another as a modern app for tablets and phones. Both will be updated regularly with identical features. Microsoft is planning to keep the look and feel of Spartan very similar across phones, tablets, and PCs. The desktop version looks like a simplified version of Chrome, with a tabbed interface above the address bar, alongside options to go back, forward, and refresh a page. It’s all designed to look lightweight, without the bloat typically associated with older versions of Internet Explorer. While the Spartan name is a codename, it’s not clear if Microsoft plans to continue the Internet Explorer branding with its new browser. That naming and other features of Spartan could play a part in Microsoft’s Windows 10 event on January 21st. Microsoft is planning to detail the consumer features of Windows 10 at its press event later this month, including its phone and tablet features. Here is the @XTankSlayerX 's thread which contains screen shots of Microsoft's new browser! Source: TheVerge
