Hi all, I've trying to commit myself to having better long-term file management for basically all my stuff, now that I've finally made the move back from laptop to desktop. My file management up to this point has been terrible and lazy. I've basically been using laptops as my main device since I wanna say 2008 - 2010, migrating from having one family PC. I also create video content, which as you'll know is a massive storage hog. When laptops I've been handed down/owned reached end of life, usually part of this was they were full of video content that I had nothing to archive to, except external HDDs which isn't the best approach as they can be easily lost. When I moved to a new laptop, I'd start from scratch, simply holding my former laptop's HDD in an external caddy in case I needed to access the files. But I've finally built my first desktop and will be using this as my main work device. I've only just built it, so lots of free space but now I've finished my degrees and I have time to create video stuff again I foresee that filling up. I basically want an approach where I decide on a space limit for my raw footage/edit files and a limit or my exported stuff, and once that space is filled, I will move older content on to an archive, where I will store it unless I need to move it back to my device to re-edit with or manipulate. This archive will also be backed up, as well as the SDDs inside my PC. I'm having some opinions about how to do these in practice and I have an idea of which is the better one, but I'll present them both in case someone's experience offers a viewpoint I hadn't considered. Ideally, I would've liked it to be an internal SSD (nvme or SATA) so it's neater, less likely to get lost, won't use up one of my usb ports (of which I have I think only a single back one remaining, otherwise I have my front one and hubs), won't rely on USB transfer speeds. But I guess the argument against this is if it runs out of space, eventually I'll have to buy a bigger and more expensive SSD and transfer it all on there, as I can't easily swap between different SSDs split by years. Whereas an external SSD via USB, once it runs out, I can just buy another one of the same size and label them and if I know I need to access a previous year I just disconnect and swap it, which is easily done. I'm a massive data hog so I don't like deleting stuff I've created, so ideally I want a system I can perpetually maintain or upgrade easily, and I'd like to start as I go on. I should stress I'm working on the scale of individual creator home use - in my dreams, I'd like to have a professional studio set up, but if I do get to that point, I'll be looking at more commercial central data storage, rather than personal archiving. Would love to refer to it when I make my own videos.

I need some recommendations for a RTX 3080 build. I primarily do content creating so I want the build to cater toward this bias. I'm new to the PC build world (Coming from MacOS) so I need some breakdowns. Hello I am in need of your help...I cannot decide what kind of monitor should I get for working with Blender, Unreal Engine, Adobe Creative Suite. Should it be curved or not? I kind of wanted a wide curved display, but I heard that for this kind of work curved monitors are not the best option as the image is distorted to a certain extent. Hi, sorry for my bad English and probably there is already a Topic about that. i am looking for a 4K Monitor with HDR Support and G-Sync with a refresh rate of over 60Hz and good Colors for Content work is the Acer Predator XB3 XB273KPbmiphzx a good one? i want something what is max 1500€ but supports 4K, HDR and G-Sync... i checked the Nvidia G-Sync Monitor list but there it is written that de Acer Predator XB3 XB273KP doesn't support HDR but the XB273KGP does but the KGP doesn't have Variable Overdrive and the KP does do you have a recommendation wich one of those i should take or do you have another one? First post on here guys. Not totally new to PC building but you'll certainly be more knowledgeable that I am. So please install your wisdom. Problem After upgrading the CPU and MB this system is incredibly slow, unstable, and crashes all the time doing the most random things. I feel like I have updated every bit of software available with no effect. I reinstalled windows with no effect. I am having a very hard time describing what is happening, my lingo knowledge doesn't cover this. But essentially my computer is not really using the CPU....at all... even during applications when it totally should be. What have I done wrong? Any thoughts are helpful. At my wits end. From what I can witness monitoring the hardware, the issue seems to be in the CPU. I can especially see this when I am in Premier Pro. Scrubbing basically doesn't work, and when I go to export a 4K file the cpu doesn't ramp up. It just sits there, idling, doing nothing. At best it will hit 100% for a few seconds completely randomly, but generally hover around 10% (I attached a picture of this which shows the cpu graph during exporting a 4K file, 4 minute video file wants to take over an hour to export). I have to stress that it is not thermal throttling as it has yet to exceed 60 degrees Celsius. Sometimes I can get a game running, but it will generally crash within 10-15 minutes of play. Usually crashes if I alt-tab out of a game. Programs will become unresponsive if I click on too many things too fast, including File Explorer... Other random thing that is happening is sometimes when the system is about to crash the system monitor shows the GPU at -1%. Not sure if it is related but I thought I would add it in. PC Specs Windows 10 Pro Version 1909 CPU: Ryzen 7 3800x (no OC currently) (Part of Upgrade) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo MB: MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon Wifi with latest BIOS (7B93v16) (Part of Upgrade) GPU: MSI Radeon RX 580 8GB (no OC currently) with 20.4.2 Radeon Software RAM: 32GB (4x4) Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO @ 3000mhz Drives: OS drive - Samsung 960evo M.2 Kingston 480gb SSD WD Black 6tb PSU: EVGA 750 G3 4 case fans Again I'm having a super hard time explaining this issue. $5000 budget. Can go over budget. In USA. Need to edit 8k to 11k 360 VR video in Davinci Resolve. Not a heavy gamer... so workstation over gaming. Been researching this for 6 months. Project getting funded in December 2019. I've been using pcpartpicker.com to configure different rigs within my budget. AMD 3600 x570 motherboard Or Threadripper (under $500) x399 motherboard Will Not be using watercooling. So the 180 TDP of the TR scares me. The 3600 is 65 TDP. I like my quiet builds. AMD Radeon Pro WX 9100 Or NVIDIA 2080 ti Do I need 2 video cards? Memory - 64 gigs of 3600. Enough? Monitor? Probably 2. One pro with factory calibration. 27" to 32". Seems like every pro monitor I've looked at had 1 star reviews that scared me away. Haven't narrowed that down yet. Case is Cooler Master HAF XB EVO. Want MB to be horizontal. Need at least one external drive bay. I have network storage already. Do I really need NAS drives for PC? 2x 1 terabyte m.2 NVME drives. 1 for OS and other for current project. 1 SSD Drive and 2 harddrives for raid storage. I do play some games, Might get Borderlands 3 or Outer Worlds. But not really a big gamer. I'm not a pro at editing. Mostly just family movies and Boy Scout camping trips.. It has been a lot to learn... have 4k 360 camera and my current rig works, most of the time... Will be building a content channel and maybe some paid work. Need pro equipment. Hi everyone! I am finally committing to getting back out of the apple ecosystem and I want to do it the right way! I have done a bit of research into building my own tower, however since this is my first time, I would like to draw on the experience of the community in guiding my build. I have a few criteria which I need to follow in order to get a build that will benefit my needs best. Budget: Approx $2k AUD for tower alone. NO HIGHER THAN $2.5K AUD. Main use: Video editing of 4k 10-bit D-log footage off the Mavic Pro 2, in addition to video and photo editing of a future mirrorless camera (Yet to purchase but most likely will have 4k recording. Probably from Sony A7 line) Secondary use: The occasional gaming here and there, primarily the new Microsoft flight simulator when it is released. Other games may include apex legends, and race simulators. Monitor requirements: Must be able to feed data to 2-3 monitors simultaneously. More than happy if it can only handle 2 monitors. Editing software: Must be able to run adobe premiere at a minimum of 4k editing. Please see the picture attached for what I have currently got together. I am fairly certain that I have covered all bases besides cooling fans, and that the components should theoretically fit into the chosen case, but I am sure I have overlooked something. I may or may not upgrade to watercooling somewhere down the track, but that will depend on if I have money burning in my pocket or not. Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Like I said, this is my first build so go easy on me ?. I am yet to choose a suitable monitor setup, but that can be organised a bit later on.

Hello! Content creator here and occasional gamer, I work mainly on Davinci Resolve, a bit of Adobe Premiere and After effects when needed, and Ableton Live with lots of memory hungy VSTs. Actually looking to upgrade from my old fx8320+16Go DDR3 to a new ryzen, and planning on getting at least 32 Gigs of ram, and probably upgrade to 64 at some point when I stumble upon a big project with raw 4k or 8k video. I've got a bit confused, performance wise, though. Should I go for a 3rd gen or can I save a buck buying only a 2600 and expect good performance out of it? What are the limitations going to be? I'm also using a single GTX 1080 8Go, so is this going to be a bottleneck for a Ryzen 3rd gen?

She wants a monitor with great color accuracy, 23" max size (desk space is limited) and I am thinking 75Hz refresh is perfect for what she would use. I am flip flopping between a 1060 6GB and an RX 580 dont know yet for sure doing some more research. I have no idea what I am looking for when it comes to looking for a great color accuracy in a pannel in the $250 and lower range.

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my current system (which is based around an i7-3770k overclocked to 4.1Ghz and a EVGA hybrid 1070GPU).. Genernally i look for a system to be able to last me around 5 years accepting that I will need to upgrade the GPU during that time. It's been a while since I last built a rig, and have been doing a lot of reading.. However subject to what i'm reading it seems there's conflicting information about which CPU i should go for so I thought this would be the best place to ask for some help. Do i go for a thread ripper or i9? Budget : £2000 Location : UK Aim : I'm looking to be able to play current games and future games such as Star Citizen at full prettiness, to be able to play VR games, and to be able to stream them to Twitch (using OBS) at a high quality. I also play Kerbal Space Program which benefits from good single core processing power, but that would be secondary to being able to games like Star Citizen and streaming them. I'm learning blender and intend to carry on learning/using it I also edit short videos for family etc My current system has some SSDS which would be moved over to the new system (1x900Gb SSD and 2x240GB SSD's) I'd be looking to retire my old system to be the Bot PC running Chat,music,bot, Facerig (using OBS's NDI plugin) My current case is cool master Cosmos II .. I'd be looking to fit the new bits in that and move the old bits to as smaller case as i can get away with. I'd also be looking for the new system to be quiet. Monitors : Currently the system is running 3 monitors .. I'd be looking to only run 2 monitors with a 3rd virtual monitor for oculus desktop so i can pin "chat" to the desktop and be able to read that while playing VR games. Currently i'm playing at 1080, at some point i'd like to get a better monitor and play at higher resolutions.. as i say i'd like full pretty Peripherals: Currently running usb mic, joystick,throttle, MFD, streamdeck, Oculus DK2, TrackIR Pro, gamepad,Mouse, Keyboard, sound mixer. flight peddles. Hi Guys, I am an aspiring content creator just wondering if there was any way to speed up downloading/transferring video from an SD/CF card y 2x12TB Western digital Gold HDD in raid 1. I was looking at Intel optane but to my understanding and not that well of it but those only work for files that are open frequently? Hello, I'm building a nice rig for gaming, livestreaming, and recording. I have an Intel 240g SSD for OS and games, and I want some kind of solution for storing all of my schooling, and my recordings and such. I would like to have a backup of everything at hand and as long as it's fast enough to record to and render from simultaneously, it's fine. Do you think doing a RAID of some sorts inside the case is the best solution? If so what kind of drives? Would some kind of external backup solution be best? please lost any solutions you can, including pros and cons:)
