SATA card for FreeNAS (Compatibility Help)
Turretgaming posted a topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
So I'm running FreeNAS 12.1 and my mother board is some stock dell board from an optiplex that has an intel i3 4130 in it and I've added 12GB of ram and 4 2TB hard drives in RAID-Z but my issue is that the motherboard has 3 SATA ports and 1 of the ports is dead. So 2 of my 2TB drives are usb 3.0 seagate external and the internal are seagate barracuda drives. I found some cards on amazon that can go from pcie 2.0 to 4 SATA3 ports and was wondering if anyone has tried them or knows if they will work. I don't need a raid card as I put my drives in software ZFS raid and I trust ZFS as when one of my drives failed last week the whole server kept working like normal and when I dropped in a replacement drive it picked right up and started rebuilding the raid with one click. These cards https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AZ9T3OU/?coliid=I1N3UWM0XSF9F3&colid=2URALXZIRM0G9&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H8CXK9F/?coliid=ITVGKOWD8Y7M3&colid=2URALXZIRM0G9&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it -
Hi, I ordered an addressable RGB strip and made sure to buy them in the format listed in my motherboard manual (ws2812b), but they have a totally different connector on them than what's on my motherboard. These look more like fan connectors while the motherboard slot has 4 pins spots in a row with one missing 2nd from the right. So, do I need an adapter or something or should I buy new strips? I attached photos of both the connectors and the diagram for the slot on my motherboard. Z390 taichi, i7 9700k, gtx 1080, phanteks enthoo pro m tempered glass, corsair ax760, 500gb samsung 970 evo, 2tb 7200rpm hard drive, etc.

I'm planning on building a new pc. I'm gonna use an ASUS ROG STRIX B360-F GAMING motherboard and put in an Asus gtx 1070 ti in it. I was wondering if I could use my old gtx 1050 ti, but I'm not really sure since I've heard that it needs to be Nvidia SLI compatible.

Greetings LTT Community, I have been looking to upgrade the RAM of my laptop to 16GB from 8GB. The laptop is a single channel so getting a single stick of 16GB ram here in my country is quite difficult, even so if the speed is at 2400 hz since most rams are available only at 2666 hz. My questions is, would it be possible to get a 2666hz ram and be compatible to the motherboard of my laptop that only supports 2400hz? Because my understanding is, you can either configure the bios to set the appropriate frequency of the ram suited to the motherboard or the bios automically adjust the frequency of a native 2666hz sodimm ram to 2400hz. I am not quite sure if my claim is correct, but seeing issues in different forums regarding some Desktop rams being automically adjusted to the supported frequence of their motherboard would hopefully be the same as well when it comes to laptops?

Hi guys, I'm about to build a new computer and I just found that issue of compatibility among parts. Where I live(Peru), there isn't a variety of parts especially memory and is quite expensive too. I found this Corsair kit ( CMK32GX4M2B3200C16), and I would appreciate if any of you have it in Ryzen (7 3700X) setup and tell me if it works fine or what it is neccesary to tweak in order to make it do so.

What is a good compatible AIO that will mount with this board. PLEASE don't say "any LGA 115x compatible cooler" because.. been here doesn't always work. Tried H60 by Corsair, backplate mount didn't match with the holes in the motherboard. Other people were reporting the same issue with the H60. Looked up NZXT but.. omg...load of pump issues along with ratty CAM software. Does anyone have this board? if yes, what do you use? I am open to air or watercooled. The board has high-rising heatsinks. Image of Motherboard + Heat Sinks

Hi there, So I'd like to offer some backstory. My dad has a home office and a render farm for his Architecture practice and he let me have one of his computers so that I can game and have some fun. Here are the specs; AMD A10 7700k Radeon HD 6950 MSI A68HM-E33 v2 16 GB of HyperX Fury DDR3 RAM 128 GB AMD Radeon R7 SSD Feel free to pm me if i did that wrong ^_^ Anyways, I was hoping to get new components and am on a tight budget so I listed the items I am going to get eventually Ryzen 5 2600 Colorful GeForce GTX 1650 MSI Pro B450m Motherboard 16GB HyperX Fury DDR4 RAM So let me get to the point, I am a gamer and so my priority would be to go ahead and get the GPU right away. I checked benchmarks and it more than doubles the score for gaming and maybe would lead me to not need to play on 1280x720 low settings and barely get 80 fps. I was wondering if my older computer could handle this 'newer' GPU while I wait to save more money and buy a motherboard and CPU. Any help and information on how I should tackle my slow upgrade would help tremendously. Hope you're all staying safe in light of this pandemic.

Hi All Whilst paying off more bills I'm slowly working my way towards my completed PC build. The next steps are the audio, headphone wise I'm fine, but I'm getting 1 Yamaha HS5 to start with (compatible cable to 3.5mm jack comes with it) then will follow this up with another and then possibly a subwoofer afterwards. I know that people buy DACs/AMPs to use these with their setups as their onboard sound isn't enough to drive them/they get crackles. My mobo however is marketed as having very good onboard sound and I wondered if anybody knew if this was going to be enough to drive them without distortion. Here's a link to the mobo: https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard/X570-AORUS-XTREME-rev-10#kf Hoping someone more knowledgeable than me may know!

I am looking to upgrade to more memory, my prebuilt PC came with 1x8GB of RAM, and on the back this Stick has 8GB 1RX8 PC4 2666V UA2 11 HMA81GU6JJR8N-VK NO AC 2007. I found an exact stick however this had 1Rx4 instead of 1RX8 on the back, all other details are the same. Are these two RAM sticks compatible with each other and will run in duel channel? This is a link to the RAM im looking to buy, picture attached of what i have https://www.flexxmemory.co.uk/memory/hynix-8gb-ddr4-pc4-21300-2666mhz-288-pin-dimm-ram-memory/

Hey, I'm planning on ordering a RTX 2080 Founders Edition card and was I wondering if the new card could bottleneck and/or have compatibility issues with my current hardware, which I bought about 3 years ago and this is the first major upgrade I'm planning to do. So this is my current setup: i7-4790k MSI GTX 970 MSI Z97 Gaming 7 motherboard Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8) DDR3 RAM Antec VP650P power supply So can I just swap out the 970 for the 2080 and be good to go? Will the 4th gen processor and DDR3 RAM present me some level of bottlenecking? Is the 650 watt power supply good enough or will I need to upgrade to a 750 w one? Note that I will be playing on a 1920x1080 monitor with a 60 hz refresh rate so I'm not looking for 144 hz or 4K resolutions or anything like that...although I'm not ruling out a possible upgrade to a 1440p monitor in future. Some might say 2080 might be overkill for a 1080p 60fps experience but I want to do this as a measure of future-proofing my system, in case I find the need or money that would enable to do a complete system upgrade sometime in future with a 8th or 9th gen CPU and DDR4. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Are acer motherboards like normal ones from companies like asus and msi or do they behave more like dell and I wanna say lenovo is the same too? More specifically do htey normally only have support for a set list of processors or do the mobos usually encompass a broad range like "as long as its from these archectures you're fine" or "as long as it doesn't draw more than x power you're fine"? I'm asking because I do alot of extreme budget builds and I HATE using anything involving dell, so a company that's fairly widespread like acer offering similar prices on the used markets while still behaving at a tolerable level would be a godsend.

Hello, I have been looking for a new modem and router for my new residence. I am getting Xfinity 150 mbps download. I was thinking of purchasing the NETGEAR CM600 (24x8) DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem and the NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk AC1750 Dual Band Smart WiFi Router. Are these products going to work well together? Is there going to be any substantial bottleneck anywhere? Will these products last fairly long? I do a lot of gaming on PC and will have people playing on Wifi, will these suffice? Will these be okay as far as ping and latency are concerned (yes, I know it has more to do with the connection rather than the products for ping)? Thanks for your help

So my Girlfriend now uses my old Acer Predator G7760 for her architecture programs and some gaming on the side, but the GPU is starting to show its age. So i was planning on buying her a new GPU but i am unsure of how new i can go and how well it would work. The MOBO in the system is a generic acer board with a second gen i7. Currently it has a GTX580 and i was thinking to upgrade it to a 980 ti or there about. My biggest question is will this work? Can a newer card run on this old mobo? or would i be better off toning down to 7 series?

i was wondering if the "MSI B360M Pro-VDH mATX Intel Coffee Lake LGA 1151 Motherboard" was compatible with i5 8600k im a noob

Hi guys, just wondering if I can use that ram on a z370 with an i5 8600k as i bought 2x8GB for £100 today of Gumtree (Sorta like craigslist) and think I may have got the wrong type after some googling, Can anyone confirm this? From what I have seen it only works with dell and servers? Thanks in advance

Hello again. Second time posting here about the same setup, but I didn't get a precise answer about my inquiry, so, if possible, informed opinions only. So I planned out a config, found where I could buy it from but I've come to a standstill regarding motherboard choice. I was initially gonna go for the b350-plus or the b350 tomahawk but it seems they might not be compatible with the ryzen 5 2600x. Another thing is that I need that same motherboard to support 3000/3200mhz ram memory. Here's the setup I was gonna go for: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/W2QHWD I'm gonna upgrade to an SSD and get another stick of 8gb ram in the future, but as of now, it is what it is. Bottom line: I need a mo-bo that supports Ryzen 5 2600X and 3200/3000mhz ram memory(preferably under 110$ since I already maxed out my budget).
