I've recently decided to build my first pc, but I am a complete 100% beginner and a kind friend directed me here. My more tech-savvy friends also helped me come up with two builds, but frankly I'm completely lost when it comes to deciding which one I would prefer because I really don't know how well the parts work together, or which ones are better. Would really appreciate it if you guys could help me take a look and help me analyse the pros and cons of each so I could make more educated decision. Thanks a bunch! Build 1: CPU: Intel CoreTM i5-6600 Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz) CPU Cooler/Power Supply: Cooler Master G650M Semi-Modular 80+ Bronze Power Supply Motherboard: MSI B250M Bazooka Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 X 4GB) Storage: Western Digital Blue 1TB Hard Drive - WD10SPCX Storage: SanDisk PLUS SSD 120GB (SDSSDA-120G-G26) Video Card: Palit GeForce GTX 1060 Dual 6GB GDDR5 PCI-E Graphics Card Case: NZXT S340 Elite - Red/Black Build 2: CPU: Intel Core i5-7500 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED 66.3 CFM Rifle Bearing CPU Cooler Motherboard: MSI B150 Gaming M3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Video Card Case: NZXT Noctis 450 ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: Antec 1300W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply I'm not really looking to play AAA games frequently. Just a solid pc that can play those games if I wanted to smoothly. Thanks so much for the help! If any more information is needed just ask I will try to provide it

So i am filling up my 480GB Sandisk SSD and want to buy a HDD as supplemental storage for things like movies, music, and large file media. i already have a WD 1TB USB 3.0 My Passport that i use for creating weekly system images and quite like it. so the question is, should i buy a 1TB WD blue internal, or another 1TB Passport as supplemental storage? is the speed difference really that noticeable for still going with an internal HDD, or since they are similar price, is it just as good to go with an external solution, allowing potential for portability? Thanks here is my build if you are curious https://pcpartpicker.com/b/vpd6Mp Edit: the 7$ price difference between the two options is not influential in my decision making.

So, after pushing my CPU a bit hard it, tried clocking it to 5GHz @ 1.45V, it seems its had enough and have started giving BSOD's every few days afteer resetting it to old 4.5GHz settings. So my question is, will a 1700 OC'd to a reasonable clock, will I see a real upgrade from my old i7? And also, I've also seen a full 4930k system, everything included (only needed the CPU and MB tho) for ~$300, would that be a better choice?

Hi guys. I am trying to upgrade my computer but I do not know which type of RAM is better. CORSAIR's Dominator series or their Vengeance Series of RAM. Here is the Vengeance series I'm looking at: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820236186 Here is the Dominator series I'm also looking at: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820236168 Besides the price, what is the difference? I want to save money but I want 32Gb/s of RAM.

Hey, So i have a galaxy s7 edge, great phone but the battery is awful if i'm honest, i only get around 4 hours of SOT now i know there are people who get over 6 hours of SOT even 7 but i've never gotten that much, I've done everything i can , i've rooted and flashed custom kernels , roms etc. but it's still the same. So i recently got a chance to swap my S7 edge to an IPhone 7 ( Not the plus model but the normal smaller IPhone 7), The only reason i wanna go for an iphone is battery life, everyone keeps on saying that the battery on the iPhone 7 is wayyyyy better than the s7 edge, now that might be due to the tiny screen but a good battery is all i need right now as i use my phone like every minute of the day. So before i swap i want to know if the iphone 7 can last a day of heavy usage ? Any real life battery tests ???? How much SOT do you get? Standby Times?? Sorry for the really long explanation and everything Hope to get an answer soon Thanks

SeaSonic M12II 520W fully modular vs SeaSonic S12II 620W non-modular the 520W one is about a US$5 bump in price. However, i am looking to make my build really nice looking and i am not going to be overclocking that much so i was thinking to get the 520W. also, what is the difference in the m12II and S12II versions? So my monitor has been a little damaged for a while (takes about 5 minutes to turn on), and I want to buy one of these: - Dell P2417H (196.75$) https://www.pcdiga.com/monitor-dell-23-8-led-p2417h-ips - LG 24MP59G-P (180.82$) https://www.pcdiga.com/monitor-lg-24mp59g-p-ips-23-8-fhd-16-9-75hz-freesync I use my computer mostly to stream, 3D modeling, scholl work and light gaming and my graphics card is a GTX 750TI so freesync is no good for now (but it could be later on) Thanks in advance. PS: You may have to translate the websites linked since they're in portuguese.

I've been looking around for a good laptop for college that would be capable of light gaming, and I'm caught in between two options here. The XPS 15 is an attractive choice, but the CLEVO P650HP3 looks like it would be a better build for the price. This is my first laptop purchase, so any input, as well as any other recommendations, is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey all, I'd like to build my mother a 4c/8t or better on a very low budget. The X5650 seems to be the best option as it can OC to 4Ghz and has an extra 2c/4t over the engineering samples. My big issue is confusion about getting a motherboard for the X5650

Hi everyone, I am looking forward to upgrade my old Asus Laptop to Hp spectre x360 or Hp spectre (12 inch model) or Razer blade stealth. I would like to hear you guys opinion and thoughts about it. My needs: -Battery life is very essential (I travel most of time like home to university, coffee store, out of states traveling etc) -I don't intend on gaming on my laptop since I already have ps4 -I consume multimedia (music, movies and anime) and do light to mid videos and photo editing -Use for my engineering course (AutoCAT, words, powerpoint, photoshop etc) -My budget is to spend less than $1500 My questions: -Which model has the best battery life (Regular use, no gaming) -Build Quality? -If you guys own any of the model I mention, tell me your thought about it. -If you guys felt that there are other better laptops than what i've mention, please let me know as well. I sincerely appreciate you guys opinions.

Recently I've been looking for a new laptop to replace my Samsung NP300 with a i5, 610M and 8GB RAM and these two are the final choices: ASUS K556UQ 12GB RAM 1TB Core i7 940MX ASUS Rog GL552VW 8GB RAM 1TB Core i5 GTX960m I want to be able to play games like Rainbow Six Siege and similar, but at the same time I need to be able to use programs like SOLIDWORKS and MATLAB for my studies, and those rely heavily on CPU and RAM usage. But also I want to be able to experience a good (leaning to high) quality gaming experience and since this will be my first laptop to give a good quality gaming and multimedia experience, so I want to get the best deal between these two. Note: Retailer doesn't give the CPU model on the webpage so I don't know if each of them is cuad or dual core. Also, I don't think posting the prices will help since I'm in Colombia and the price comparisons aren't good. Here are the links to the products, they are in spanish: http://www.falabella.com.co/falabella-co/product/2937782/Notebook-15,6-FHD-12GB-1TB-Ci7-K556UQ-DM897T?navAction=push#fichaPP http://www.falabella.com.co/falabella-co/product/2770641/Notebook-Rog-15.6-8GB-1TB-Ci5-GL552VW-DM337T?navAction=push#fichaPP

Hey there! @LinusTech always makes sure to note, that FPC's 1080p looks better than Youtube's 4K (although @Slick always adds a disclaimer). I decided that it was time to either prove their point or prove them wrong! I used frames from SYW S5 E01, to compare YT's streamed 4K to 1080p mp4s I downloaded from FPC. You can easily tell which parts of the image are from YT, since I did not want to do anything to the images apart from slicing them. (one is sliced weirdly, try to tell which one) You should also ignore the darker parts in the top and bottom of the YT slices, since I had to pause the video to get the screencaps, so try to find the lines cutting the images in the center of the screen. Spoiler: It wouldn't be easy One thing I have notices though, is that the image could be a little less noisy when cuts or rapid movements occur, but also note, that Kyle's finger in the second image is a fast moving object for these purposes

I just wanna start off by saying LTT is my favorite YouTuber and when I had a question about buying my next laptop I couldn't think of a more helpful place than the LTT forums. I'm looking to buy a Gaming Laptop. I was looking at the MSI GT73VR TITAN SLI 4K (7TH GEN) (GEFORCE®GTX 1070 SLI) and the GT73VR TITAN PRO 4K (7TH GEN) (GEFORCE®GTX 1080). I left links to the laptops below. My main question was would the laptop with the dual 1070's in sli be better performing than the laptop with just the single 1080. The Laptop I really want is the GT83VR TITAN SLI (7TH GEN) (GEFORCE®GTX 1080 SLI) but the fact that the display isn't 4K and not compatible with G-Sync is a near deal breaker. If anyone could maybe even recommended an alternative with equal or more CPU and Graphics power I would be receptive to it, I'm trying to keep the price around $5,000 USD. My current laptop is and 2014 Alienware 14 with an intel i5-4200M @2.50GHz and GeForce GT 750M. Hello! I'm about to purchase the parts for a build made for gaming at 1440p. The last thing I have left to consider is which monitor to buy. I have two in mind. They're both 1440p 60Hz LED IPS panels. The only differences are that the Acer one has a 4ms response time whereas the Dell monitor has an 8ms response time and that the Acer's stand only has tilt while the Dell has a stand that allows for tilt, height adjust, swivel, and turning the monitor vertically (portrait) and is VESA mountable. Here they are: Acer G257HU: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QS0AKVK/ref=as_li_ss_tl?&ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=348A4TXGF3ZEER198F17&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=6aad23bd-3035-4a40-b691-0eefb1a18396&pf_rd_i=desktop&linkCode=sl1&tag=jokerprodu03-20&linkId=5788cd97f4e49530c5e4a1113b7232ee Dell UltraSharp U2515H: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SPWPF1O/ref=as_li_ss_tl?keywords=dell u2515h&qid=1454568105&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1&linkCode=sl1&tag=technologetic-20&linkId=de5a481fca1ac2cb01cc1a13ec04aa2d The better stand and VESA mount is important to me - especially the ability to height adjust. I'm a bit worried, however, that the slower response time will be noticeable and impede my performance when gaming. For reference, I play many genres of games, including FPS and MMOs (where response time would be important), but I also edit video and photo, so color and picture quality is important to me. So is there a noticeable difference between a 4 and 8ms response time? Is it worth sacrificing the freedom of VESA mountability and a better stand? Ignore the price difference please.

Hey guys, I am choosing between the Spectre x360 (Spectre website) or the Asus Zenbook Flip ux360ua (the one with an i5-6200u Zenbook website) I need it for school, CAD and media consumption. I would definitely prefer the QHD from the Asus though the HP just seems better. Also the HP is an extra £100 even with the cashback. I would get the Asus from (Zenbook on Amazon) I do have reasons for the flippyness and so far these seem like the best options. Thanks

I made this video about the evolution of Intel CPUs for a school project, and I thought it might be interesting for some of you here on the forums to watch The video covers Conroe to Sandy Bridge in detail and includes "apples to apples" (as close as I could) benchmarks for everything from Conroe to Ivy Bridge. Enjoy

Hello there ! I'm setting up my first pc Build(still hooked to mom and dad so no more than 450€) I'm living on an island,so it's a nightmare to get parts and component other than with sellers(and their price are higher than normal of course, i d'ont need any peripherals and already have an hard-drive with windows 10) i have to choose between two builds the first one is,i think, more about future proofing while still keeping low cost: Intel Core i3 6100 (3.7 GHz) (130€) Cooler Master K280 (i have no other choice) Smartteck ST-BX350 - 350W 80Plus Bronze (still no other choice) HyperX Fury Noir 8 Go (2x 4Go) DDR4 2133 MHz CL14 (i can just buy 4 gigs for less but... future proofing) ASUS Z170-P(130€) (for future proofing and overclocking later) The whole would cost me 430€ The other build: Same case, power supply and Ram Gigabyte GA-H110M-DS2 (69€) Intel Core i5 6400 (2.7 GHz) (200€) (the whole for 449€) The problem is,i don't know wherether i should go with one or another,i d'ont plan on Heavy gaming so no Gpu for now,i will be moving to Quebec next year, where price would be more reasonable.(this i3 and i5 are also the only model i can have right now and i can't wait, the reasons would be too long to explain) And i would like to know if the +70€ for an i5 is actually worth it Thanks for any reply

Hey there! Me and my friend both want to get a new PC and we made two separate builds. The PCs will be used for: Gaming (1080p), Programming, Picture editing maybe sometimes video editing etc. My build: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/YBD7wV (SSD will be added later) My friends build: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/6TWzvV My friend is also considering to only use a 500GB SSD instead of a 1TB HDD. What do you think about that? Is it still the case that SSD's break quicker when there is a lot of write traffic? Which one do you think is better? Especially considering the CPU. Would you make any changes? Thanks for your help!

Which one of those monitors is a better choice for gaming when paired with a GTX 1070? The LG is 120€, the BenQ 160€ with shipping. Their price difference where I'm getting them from is cca 40€(~45$)... Not terribly much, but still significant within my budgetary constraints, and I would rather not spend more if the payoff isn't there. But I still don't want to game on a 1440x900 screen with that hardware. (The new rig is QUITE a significant upgrade for me :P) Also, if I missed a model superior to those two within the price range on Amazon.de, then please feel free to point me in the right direction Thanks in advance for your time, and happy to be a part of the LTT community EDIT - Links for reference: http://www.benq.com/product/monitor/GL2450HM/specifications/ http://www.dell.com/ed/business/p/dell-p2414h/pd

Hey, Forum ! Recently my trusty GTX570 gave up on life and I've been using my ancient 8 year old AMD Radeon HD4870, which has been a painful step back in terms of gaming performance (You know times are tough when you have to turn down the graphic details in DotA 2 and CS:GO). So it's definitely time for a solid GPU upgrade. My price range would allow for either an RX480 or GTX1060. Unfortunately prices for these cards have not settled yet and reached the originally advertised price points, at least here in Germany (Amazon.de). But last week two decent offers popped up: https://www.amazon.de/XFX-rx-480p8lfb6 Radeon-480 Serie-Grafikkarte - Schwarz/dp/B01JM1C5BY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1476524620&sr=8-1&keywords=xfx+rx+480 https://www.amazon.de/Palit-NE5106015J9J-Jetstream-PCI-Express-Speichertaktgeschwindigkeit/dp/B01IMZTEBA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1476526605&sr=8-1&keywords=palit+1060 Now I need your help deciding which one to go for. System Specs: Mobo: Asus P8P67 Pro Rev 3.1 CPU: i5-2500k (OC'd to 4.5Ghz) CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 EVO RAM: 4x4GB DDR3 1600Mhz PSU: BeQuiet 630W SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 256GB GPU Requirements: - Great 1080p gaming (highest settings at a smooth 60+ fps) - Good overclocking capability - Good cooling Desired aspects (not a necessity): - Dual card (SLI/Crossfire) support for "future-proofing" - possible upgrade to a 144Hz Freesync (<--AMD) monitor in the future. G-Sync monitors are bonkers expensive imo. Games I'd like to play: - Battlefield 1 & 4 - Crysis 3 - Star Wars: Battlefront - Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor From what I've gathered both the XFX and Palit cards have decent quality components, which should hopefully give a reasonable amount of overclocking headroom. JayzTwoCents recent review of the XFX RX480 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWASNajSdpg) just piles on the compliments and taking DX12, Vulcan and better long-term support by AMD for their "older cards" coupled with the possiblity of adding a second 480 to achieve "near GTX1080 performance" is definitely making me lean towards Team Red. Yet, the majority of games at the moment use DX11, which is better territory for the 1060. Taking these many aspects into consideration, what would you recommend? Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions! Cheers

I'm looking into picking up a new laptop, and I can't find any reliable benchmarks for one of the cpu's I've narrowed it down to. I'm wondering if there's any way to tell anything about the cpus performance-wise, just from their names. After all, they are both notebook i3's. i3-7100u vs i3-5010u Thanks in advance

Hello fellow patrons of the LTT forum! I have my new(ish) build and I want to upgrade the graphics card, and I don't really know which is better, just getting a new 980ti and putting it in SLI with my current 980ti, or sell my current one and get a 1070. My current system specs are here in PCPP and there you will find any pertinent info regarding my current build (monitor, processor and such)

My Build (http://pcpartpicker.com/list/bV9zzy) Between two specific models of graphics card (will add amazon links) which cools better? Right now I have great airflow in my case (Corsair 750D) but when I play Battlefield 1 my GPU overheats with high graphics settings and with max fan speed on the graphics card. And when I say overheats, I mean, goes to 108°F and that's the lowest, slowly it will rise and then... black screen and computer restarts. In order to fix this problem, I set my graphics to low and I max out the fan and the temp will stay stable at 108°F. I will also add links to my build and I game at 1440p (2.5K? 1.5K? lol idk 2440p/1440p I think) Anyway, should this be here or the air cooled sub-forum? Which of these has better cooling? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YDAYOK0/ref=twister_B00Z07KXCI?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 (980ti) or 1070 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GX5YWAO/ref=psdc_284822_t1_B00YDAYOK0 Should I go 980ti SLI? Will that help my temps? Or just get a watercooled 980ti?
