I'm trying to decide between these two laptops for college. The XPS would be the 9310 with a 3050 ti and the G14 would have a 6700s. I do some gaming on the side, looking at maybe Minecraft, Flight Sim 2020 (if possible), and a few other games. I'm okay with playing 1080p high settings. I also do a fair amount of video/photo editing in the Adobe suite but both of these laptops seem to be perfectly fine for that. I did find both laptops at pretty good prices but the XPS comes in about $200 cheaper. That savings would definitely be nice to use on other things. Not sure which one to get given what I plan on doing so I would love to hear what you all think! Thanks

As the title says I've been eyeing the XPS 15 and Blade 15 but I'm torn because I've heard nothing but great things about the XPS in reviews and ratings but quite the opposite from friends. The Blade I've seen highly ranked in a lot of reviews but always gets beat out. I'll be going to college so it will be used for everything including gaming (nothing crazy), Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and Premiere, and the typical college stuff. The XPS has the better screen and is cheaper but the Blade has a better CPU and GPU, I'd like it to last all 4 years of college so reliability and durability are pretty important. Any input would be appreciated. The configurations I've been looking at are below Razer Blade: $2499 QHD 240Hz i7 12800H RTX 3060 16GB 4800 MHz 1TB SSD Dell XPS: $2399 3840x2400 500 nit touch screen (non oled option) i7 12700H RTX 3050ti 16gGB 4800 MHz 1 TB m.2

Hey. I am joining college next month and I need a laptop. My old one suffered water damage and well, it died. Here is a usage checklist: 1. Thin and Light Laptop with good battery life as a priority (since I would be required to carry my laptop for classes, assignments) 2. I am engaged in UI/UX design, content creation and branding as a hobby and I use the Adobe Suite extensively. (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, After Effects) I want a good experience with the Adobe Suite. 3. College would involve programming, MATLAB and AutoCAD, for the answer-writer's knowledge. 4. I would be playing Rocket League, CS:GO and FIFA "casually" on the laptop with my mates. I just want them playable. 5. USB-C, USB 3.0 ports and a 3.5 mm audio jack would be a necessity. I live in India and my budget is 90,000 Indian Rupees (approx. 1225 USD). My preferred online retailers are Flipkart (www.flipkart.com) and Amazon India (www.amazon.in) Please help me find a good laptop for my needs. Thank you.

I'm going to be studying computor science at college and I'll need a decent laptop to be able to practice programming, do course work, take notes and all that stuff. I could use the computers at the college for practicing programming and doing homework but the college is a 20-30 minute drive away, if traffic is decent, and I dont drive myself (my parents cant always drop me off and bus travel is expensive as frick and takes even longer). I can upgrade eventually as I work towards my career when I really need to but for now I need somthing that will get the job done without brutally abusing what's left of my wallet

I'm not really too sure about what classes I'm going to be taking - but I do not think I'll be doing anything too intensive - my brother is doing fine with a 13' 2013 MBA. My budget is flexible, but ~1700 is the VERY most I'm willing to spend. Right now my top choice is the SL2, but I might wait for the SL3. I am also looking at a macbook - don't know which, don't like their keyboards, but making ios apps would be cool, I have an iPhone and Apple watch. Lenovo x390 LG gram kinda the matebook X - don't want to deal with their customer service My requirements Good battery life - enough Decent keyboard - this is where the mac loses points, but I'm willing to tolerate it. Good screen - where the Lenovo loses points Decent price - I don't particularly want to spend a ton of money, but can if I need to. Reliability - I want to use this laptop for at least 4 years, the first two will be lighter usage, I am using it for my last 2 years of high school, will probably get a new laptop for my last two years of college.

I've done a lot of work researching for a college laptop and I've narrowed my list down to three, all being xps models. Below is a link for my compare thing on dell's website. (There are a lot of different configs and I want to clearly show which three I decided could possibly be for me ram, storage, resolution). If I buy this month (July 2018) I can save 200 dollars on the 13 or the 2in1 which will make the prices more even. https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/compare?ocs=cax15w10p1c403,smx15w10p1c1608,cax13w10p1c609 I know that the 8550u is a solid performer for productivity in the 13, but I don't know as much about the 8705g in the 2in1 or the 8750h in the 15. I read a little about each of them in intel's website, but I cant tell if the integrated Vega graphics in the 2in1 are better than the 1050ti in the 15. I know that the 8750h is superior performance wise to the 8705g in CPU tasks, but again, I don't know which combo is better. It was hard for me to tell how the battery life is affected on each laptop saying that the 15 has the CPU and GPU, but has a larger battery than the 2in1 with the bundled graphics which I assume will consume less battery. I know that the 13 is very portable, but I was unsure about the 15 inch models. I read online that they were heavier and less portable, but they didn't say if it was atrocious or still good but not at the 13 level. How portable are the 15 inch units? When it comes to the 2in1, I'm unsure of the stability. I currently have an old hp envy 2in1 that wobbles horribly whenever it is bumped or the table its on moves at all. I know its not the best laptop ever, but I would like to know if the xps 15 2in1 is stable. The 2in1 feature is really cool and useful, but if it's annoying all of the time, then it might not be for me. Most of my questions require testing, actually having all three laptops, or overall good knowledge of laptops/Ultrabook. None of which I can do/have. I would appreciate any help as I know I can't go wrong with any of the choices, but I obviously want to make the best choice. Thank You! I added a poll because polls are fun.

I'm going off to college this fall and am looking for a laptop for portability and taking notes. My maximum budget is $1500 but am trying for something closer to $1000. I am bringing my desktop for gaming and light CAD work in my dorm so graphics are not a priority. (Skylake i5 6500, MSI 1060 6G ARMOR, with 8GB of RAM for reference) For the screen I would prefer 1080p IPS or better (60hz is fine). I would like 8GB or more of DDR4 RAM. I want it to be Windows 10 and I'm fine with Home, I don't need Pro. The main features I'm looking for are that it has an M.2 SSD and decent battery life. Basically I'd like something fast and modern that doesn't have to game (if it can I don't want it to look like a stereotypical gamer's laptop). I appreciate any help.

Hey LTT Forums. I don't know where else or who else to ask this, but I need some help. I'm headed off to college in a few months as a Mechatronics Major at CSU:CI. I need to know what type or power of a Computer I'll be needing. Here's some background: Mechatronics is basically a mix of Computer, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering with some Robotics and Computer Science in there too. The things I'm trying to figure out are what programs I'll be running on my PC in my classes (Generally, not looking for too many specifics), and how much graphical and CPU processing power I'll need. I don't know if it'll be mostly document writing and program compiling or major Physics and Engineering simulations needed a Laptop with a strong GPU such as the 1060. Don't worry about my needs for Gaming and such, I can take the power I'll need for that in the future myself, I'm smart enough to figure that out. All I don't know is what I'll be doing at college. If anyone has any recent experience with Computer Engineering or Science, such as a schooling program within the past 5 years, just let me know what you ended up needed a computer for in college. Thank you so Much!

Hi so I'm a console gamer (yeah yeah not the place guys) but I'm a college freshman and I need a laptop, I'm a Pre nursing student (planning on going all the way to my masters) so I need a laptop that's light and great for notetaking, all of which the Surface pros do. But after LTT's review of the New Surface Pro, I was left feeling confused. Should I spring for the New version or go with the original surface pro 4? (I'm not sure how to separate the two cause the basically have the same name) I have enough in the budget for either one but I want something that, hopefully, will get me through all 7 years of schooling and won't become so obsolete when I go for an upgrade after I graduate. Thanks!

Hey I am looking for a new laptop for college and have fallen in love with the surface laptop. I never knew I wanted a screen with a more square aspect ration until I laid my eyes on it. The buildquality is amazing and the keyboard and touchpad are great as well. But some things are making me hesitant about buying one: The design team must have had a stroke when choosing the ports It is not serviceable The price So I wanted to ask if you can recommend good alternatives with a bright and high quality display that is preferably not 16:9, that is stylish, has a good combination of ports (sd reader and thunderbolt are appreciated) and has good keyboard and trackpad. The buildquality should also be good so LG gram is out of the question. Thank you for your answers in advance!

I know this question has been asked a couple of times but i just couldnt fit in the other posts.. I'm starting college soon and have to get a new laptop. Im studying computer science so im going for a good procesor/ssd/keyboard.. I've chosen a few but need to make the final choice. I'd like to fit in an ssd and exchanging the 1tb hdd for a ssd(240gb) costs aroud 35eur. I was looking at the Acer e5-575g with i7-7500u 8gb ram 1tb hdd 940M priced at ~660eur Other choice is HP Envy M6-AQ105 x360 with i7-7500u, 16gb ram, intel 620, 1tb hdd and 15.6 ips touch, priced just under 750eur Other choice is dell inspiron 5578 with i7-7500u, 16gb ram, intel 620, 512ssd and 15.6 ips touch. Priced just under 800eur. And my final choice is Asus k550vx with i7-7700Hq 8gb ram 950M, 256ssd+ 1tb hdd with a 15.6 TN priced just above 800eur. The build quality is of the same importance as the specs as i need it to last for a few years and do the heavy job. Im not looking to game on this laptop as i have a gaming pc. All answers are appreciated.

IDEAL Price <= $1000 RAM >= 16 GB 64 bit Eight Core CPU >= 1.6 GHz GPU >= 4GB Ram Minimum RAM = 8 GB 64 bit Quad Core (Intel 6th gen HQ/HK) CPU = 1.6 GHz GPU = 2GB Ram Will be using it for Occasional Rendering and Gaming, but mainly for Programming. PDF attached includes the software system minimum requirements and laptops I am looking into. Software I will be using: Blender 3d, Matlab, Maya, Visual Studio, and Labview My choices so far: $599 Inspiron 15 5000: http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-15-5555-laptop/pd?oc=dncwvamd2812h&model_id=inspiron-15-5555-laptop $699 IdeaPad Y700: http://shop.lenovo.com/smb/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y700-series/y700-14-inch/?sb=:000001C9:000161FC: $729 MSI GL62: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154112&cm_sp=Homepage_FDD-_-P1_34-154-112-_-04032016 $749.99 IdeaPad 700: http://shop.lenovo.com/smb/us/en/laptops/ideapad/700-series/700-15-inch/#SYSTEM I am leaning more towards the Inspiron, but the MSI might be better. This is more or less a general "help me" topic as I am now indecisive as I am still new at this. Any help and/or alternative laptop options are appreciated. Laptops.pdf

Hello! I am new to this place, and have lurked around to see that a lot of people actually know what they are talking about. Anyways, I was wondering if someone can help me choose a good laptop for college. It has been about a year since I bought this Asus X450LD-WX007H laptop, and it worked out fine for me during the first couple of months. But it's too heavy for me, and it's troublesome to bring a relatively heavy laptop with you when you have these big books to carry... Also, it has started to get slow, and not even a year has passed... I noticed that whenever I press the Windows button, it doesn't open quite as fast as the other laptops I have seen (such as those of Acer, Dell, etc.) I am running Windows 8 as my operating system, by the way. I do not know if the reason why my laptop is slow was probably because I have too many files in my laptop or probably because of something I did which I do not know of? The only things I do with my laptop is play Dota 2 and surf the web. I occasionally torrent, but that's about it. I tried using Adobe After Effects in it, but it was too slow for me. As for the laptop's appearance, some of the covering of the laptop has started to peel off on the sides, and some weird small dots appeared around the palm-rest area, near the touchpad. If you guys want, I can post some pictures so you know what I am talking about. I contacted Asus in my country, and they told me that they do not cover these kinds of things in their warranty. I am starting to think that this laptop is not worth it? I need a lightweight laptop that is good for creating powerpoints, occasional Adobe After Effects editing, and of course, torrenting and surfing the web. Maybe even playing Dota 2 on it would be nice, since those are the things I do with this laptop. The gaming is optional, of course. I am planning to just build a desktop dedicated for gaming (in which I would also need your help). tl;dr * I have an Asus X450LD. Should I keep it or sell it? * I need a laptop with the ff: > useful for creating powerpoints > has the capability of allowing me to video-edit in After Effects or whatnot > Photoshop > torrenting > Microsoft Word > surfing the web > watching videos > about 13" > lightweight > well, of course, relatively cheap. Around the price I can sell my old laptop plus a couple of bucks? Hope you guys can help me! Cheers!

Hello, i will be starting college soon and needed help picking a laptop. My budget is nothing crazy (mac is way out of the question) but fairly decent. I will be going 4 years for I.T. (Information Technology). Thanks!
