So I'm putting together a shopping and checklist for the 8700K that arrived on my doorstep the other day, and wanted to check in with a second opinion before I go ahead, in case I forgot something. - 8700K (Obviously) - Delid Mate kit - Conductonaut (I assume 1g is enough, provided I don't mess up too much?) - Silicon to re-glue it up (since scraping the old stuff off will lower the ceiling on the IHS too much if not reapplied?) - Nail Polish? My main concern is needing some electrically safe nail polish, since the 8700K has some contact points dangerously? close to the chip, in case I oversaturate the surface ever so slightly and it makes contact with those points? (I am guessing here, since I can't find all that much information about the 8700K and delid requirements. Note - I am not expecting to use a Monoblock, so the IHS height might not matter, and I could technically just super glue the corners, so I could re-open it easily later on?

Hello guys! I am a programmer who programs Python. I don't do any 10000 lined programs now though but I think I may do them in the next couple of years. And I don't mind waiting for the "10000 lined programs" to interpret, I can wait for a few seconds for that, no big deal... I have configured the following build. I would be building this this summer and I want to use the upcoming H310 motherboard for the Intel coffee lake chipset. I've heard that it would be released this month or the next, so I'd like to keep my choices open. Please remember that I would like to keep my build as low as possible, that's the reason I chose i3 8100 instead of i5 8400, but if you guys really insist that i5 is better, then I may change my decision. Does having more cores do any good for me? All suggestions are welcome. PC Build 1. i3 8100 2. 8GB DDR4 RAM 3. 128GB SSD 4. H310 Motherboard (upcoming) 5. Corsair Carbide Spec - 1 6. Corsair 450W 80+ Rated 7. 20 inch DELL Monitor (1366 x 768) Thank you!

Hey all, I have got a problem I can't seem to figure out. I just put together my new PC a few days ago and ever since I tried playing some games, the entire PC freezes on me anywhere from 5 minutes to 45 minutes into gaming. The entire PC freezes and I am unable to alt-tab or get the computer to respond, I have to push the case restart button to get the PC to restart. I do not get any black screens or BSOD's, the screen simply freezes in game. This problem occurs everytime in all different games from GTA V to Cities: Skylines. I have done no overclocking on my system yet and I listed my PC specs below: CPU: i5-8600k @ stock speeds Mobo: Asrock Fatal1ty z370 gaming K6 RAM: g.skill ddr4 2x8gb 3200mhz (15-15-15-35) GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC (bought in 2015) AIO: Cooler Master Masterliquid 240 PSU: Seasonic Prime Ultra 750w Gold (somewhat overkill) HDD: WD Caviar Black 1tb 7200rpm (Circa 2010) SSD: Waiting on delivery for a 250gb Samsung 860 Evo So far I have tried updating my bios to the latest version, completely reinstalling Windows 10 (x64, installed all available updates), reformat hard drive (checked with crystaldiskinfo and in "good" health) test GPU in Furmark (approx. 40 minutes, Max temp 63c, no errors), test CPU in Prime95 (30 min., max temp. 61c, no errors), memtest86 (4 passes, no errors), update GPU drivers and reinstall game drivers. I have MSI afterburner installed and the temps right before freezing are around 60c for GPU and 38c for CPU. I have tried researching the issue and tried some possible solutions but I am at a loss and can't really figure out what the problem is. I realize the GPU and HDD are somewhat old, not sure if these are the problems. About an hour ago today, I tried Unigine Heaven (Fullscreen, 1920x1200, ultra settings, dx11), the entire PC froze twice in a row. Each occurred about 8 minutes into the test. Any help is greatly appreciated and sorry for the long post!

I would like my question to be short, so : Should I get an i3 8100 with a SSD or an i5 8400 with a 500 GB HDD? I suppose an i5 with the HDD can be upgraded to SSD later on, but if I get an i3, I can get the motherboard which has 4 RAM slots (which is releasing supposedly on April 2) instead of the motherboard with two RAM slots if I go to the i5. Which one would be a better configuration? PS I am a programmer and a student

Hey guys so i just got the new 8700k and a Aorus Z370 Gaming 7 motherboard and 1st thing i do is test my maximum overclock settings iv'e gotten 5.0 Ghz Stable with the following bios settings XMP Profile 1 Cpu Clock Ratio 50 Uncore Ratio 40 (i understand a little about this but can someone elaborate a bit more on this) Intel SpeedShift Technology Disabled CPU Enhanced Halt(C1E) Disabled C3 State Support Disabled (does these c state stuff affect performance iv'e seen people say that but how?) C6/C7 State Support Disabled C8 State Support Disabled C10 State Support Disabled Ring to Core offset(Down Bin) Disabled (what does this do i know its used to stabilize overclock but how?) CPU EIST Function Disabled Race To Halt (RTH) Disabled Energy Efficient Turbo Disabled Voltage Optimization Disabled CPU Vcore LoadLine Calibration Turbo VT-d Disabled Internal Graphics Disabled and of course the cpu voltage at 1.380 Volts i tried increasing it all the way up to 1.400 for 5.1 ghz but i get the blue screen not stable. So before you just say delid your processor? Anything else i can try to squeeze out that 100-200 Mhz i upgraded from my 7700k with 5.0 ghz i want more so i don't feel the same also it's always running at 5.0 ghz is there anyway to make it use 5.0 ghz only when needed i don't need 5000 mhz just to watch a youtube video i'm assuming the c state shit is doing this

I’m planning on buying a prebuilt pc with the i7 8700 and gtx 1070. But, i heard that theres something wrong with the i7 8700’s turbo boost. Is that true or were people not telling the truth? I really like this pc but if theres something wrong with the I7 8700 i’ll have to look for a new one. This is what they said : Do NOT get the locked i7. It has a problem (probably intentional) with throttling Turbo Boost, it's slower that the unlocked one, and you'll honestly probably regret not being able to overclock a few years down the line. And turbo boost is quiet useless according to my experience, there's a reason why i disabled my turbo boost and fixed the clock speed as i got higher points on cinebench and significantly very low stuttering when playing ACO with medium-high settings both different users. Is this true or can i just buy the pc without a problem?

Currently I have an old Asus laptop with an i5-3317U and GTX 635M (just need to replace to SSD). I have been thinking to replace this with Dell Inspiron 7577. But to be honest I really not in a rush to replace the laptop, but I also have a time frame to have a new laptop at least for the next 3 months. A couple question that I want to discuss are: 1. Is the Coffee Lake H chips for laptops coming in 2018? 2. Is it going to have more than 4 cores? 3. Is the laptops with Coffee Lake H chips going to be much, much more expensive than Kaby Lake H? 4. Should I just wait for Coffee Lake laptops or just buy the Dell now? The reason I asked this because I notice that at CES, there is really not much Coffee Lake laptops showcased. I'm afraid to postpone my purchase to long for nothing. I appreciate your opinion and thank you

Some folks at HWbot managed to pencil mod a Core i7 8700K to work on Asrock Z170 motherboards with a moded UEFI (added the microcodes AFAIK). Would love to see this mod done in a video. Yes, I figure a video like this may have relationship/political ramifications with Intel, but LTT doesn't strike me as a team that would shy from controversy, particularly in light of the GPP revelations, GT 1030 shenanigans, et al. Admittedly pretty excited about this, since I couldn't resist the LGA771 to LGA775 sticker & BIOS mod either.

Help with CPU choice (x299 vs. Coffee Lake)
Sheiddy posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
So my old PC decided to die a little too soon, can't figure out if it's the motherboard(R5E) or the CPU(i7-5820k) that's not working anymore and decided to no try and repair/replace what's broken and instead upgrade to a newer generation. I will keep everything I had except for the CPU and mottherboard. It had a 1080ti, 1000w Corsairs PSU, 16 GBs of RAM and some SSDs+HDDs. What I need is an advice on the CPU-MoBo. Should I go with the intel x299 and 7th gen i7-7820x or i9-7900x or should I go with z370 and the i7-8700k. I usually use the computer for gaming on a 1440p@160Hz monitor. I also stream sometime and do some video editing for YouTube(Sony Vegas/After Effects) and also use it for programming. Budget: £1000. I will post below a list of parts that I considered buying and their pricing where I am, maybe it helps. CPU: i9-7900x - £679 i7-8700x - £327 i7-7820x - £420 Motherboard: Asus TUF X299 MK1 - £225 Asus Strix Z370 - £153 Asus Strix X299-XE - £274 Feel free to give any kind of advice and/or other parts. Thank you. EDIT: words- 3 replies

I'm looking to retire my old Synology NAS and decided to have some fun building my own based on an m-ITX board and FreeNAS. I've been looking at different options and it seems i3-8100 is an excellent choice for the following reasons; Supports ECC Has 4 cores Clocked at 3.6Ghz 65W TDP Easy on the wallet However - it seems there's currently no boards supporting 8th gen intel CPU's and ECC memory. In fact, it seems the Z370 chipset doesn't support ECC at all, and I've yet to find any other boards with socket 1151, 8th gen support and ECC. Please tell me, oh wisdom of the internet, does anyone know any boards that will fit my needs? Or is there anyone who knows when boards with chipsets supporting ECC and 1151 will hit the market? Story time - aka tl;dr WARNING I ended up being so frustrated, being unable to find the information anywhere, that I decided to try asking Intel support. I got to a page with a link to raise a support request. Link directed me to a page, stating "This page is temporarily unavailable". The page suggested posting my inquiry to Intel's forum. I tried, but when I hit the post button, I got to a page saying "Not allowed" and suggested a link to contact them. Link directed me to a list of support phone numbers. I called the number listed for my country and got a voicemail stating "This number cannot be called from a cell phone" - like who the **** uses land lines now a days? Intel - Trolling, perfected.

Hi guys. So this is my second time building a PC and I need help choosing between i5 8400 & i3 8100 Coffee Lake. I made tons of mistakes on my first build and won't like such to be repeated. Just moved from London to Abuja (Nigeria) so parts are very difficult to get/expensive. The i3 8100 will set me back $155 whereas the i5 8400 will cost $230 to be delivered to my doorstep. I understand the i5 is way better but my concern is there won't be any need to upgrade to an i7 8700k in the future (considering the z370 motherboard). And going with the i3 I might be stuck with a chip that may perform that well. So, I need some help and guidance here guys. I'll drop down my full parts list for some extra advice. Lastly, I will be using the PC for gaming mainly and then some moderate to mildly tasking video editing like my first build (which I sadly sold off due to moving away). [Note: Parts incurred shipping/duty fees to Nigeria from $50-$150 and budget is $1600] Asrock Z370 Extreme4: $195 Corsair Vengeance 3000mhz (8gb x 2): $245 Sapphire Nitro 8gb RX 480: $405 [Locally sourced] Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo: $65 Intel i5 8400 or i3 8100: $230 or $155 Samsung 850 evo 500gb: $212 Fractal Design Meshify C: $150 EVGA SuperNova 650 G3: $153 Total: $1655 or $1580 depending on CPU [First Build Just In case] Cpu: Intel i7 4790k GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97 UD5H-BK RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x 8GB (1600mhz) CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i HDD: WD 1tb SSD: Crucial mx100 512GB Fans: Corsair SP140 Optical drive: Samsung DVD writer Case: Corsair 450D PSU: Corsair RM850

Alright, I have an I-7 8700 coffee lake, It says it is setting at about 3200mhz and it has a 4600mhz limit. How do I enable this turbo boost? Asus Prime Z370A motherboard. Sorry if this has been answered, but I couldn't find any answers about it.

While i was just looking around for pc parts when I save up the money, the i7-8700k says it has 2 memory channels and ddr4-2666mhz as the only memory type when i was looking at a mobo to go with it (lga 1151 300 series) i was honestly confused when many appeared to accept ddr4 of many kinds take this ASUS ROG Strix Z370-E for example it has 4 memory slots and a huge variety of ddr4 memory clock speeds that it accepts, but (correct me if im wrong) the i7-8700k only uses 2 memory slots and only 2666mhz ddr4 ram. I dont think i fully grasp the memory slots/channels Thanks in advance for the help
