(Backstory, skip to next brackets for troubleshooting info) Hello, i am a very new builder, and prior to my assembly of this pc i need help with, my gaming set up was a ~$500 pre built dell desktop with an i3 4150, 8gb of ddr3 ram, a 1tb hdd, dell 300w psu, and a gtx 750ti slapped in there for power. Recently, i decided to buy a case, new motherboard, and psu for upgradability of this machine. I bought an atx tower by rosewill, 500w evga psu, and an msi mini atx (i believe ?) ddr3 mobo. I watched tutorials to help me put it all together and, after a bit of confusion with accidentally misplacing the jumpers, i had success! The pc was up and running like normal after some getting warmed up. [heres where the problems start] However, this morning i opened up star wars jedi knight jedi outcast to play and after a bit left it running to go play xbox downstairs with a friend, upon returning i had a blue screen! Odd especiallyl considering how unintensive the game was. Since the "report" to ms was not loading (0%) i turned the computer off and on again to find no video on my monitors, but all fans running (3 case fans, cpu cooler, gpu, psu, all running) i did extensive researching all day today and tried EVERYTHING i could thus far (resetting cmos, changing ram, reapplying cpu in case there was some loose thermal paste, trying my old motherboard, unplugging hdd to see if it is corrupted) to absolutely no avail. Any advice? Could this be my cpu, psu, or motherboard? And how could i fix it? Thanks in advance for reading all of this and trying to help. If you need any more info ask and i can try to supply UPDATE: I put my computer back in its original shoddy dell case and tried out its 300w power supply, a yellow light came on FINALLY giving me some sort of information, the case looks like this, any ideas?

I have a home computer that I mostly let my 10 year old and other family use. While switching the CMOS battery the clip part broke off. Trying to solder on the clip again seems to be ill advised do to the pressure of it holding on the battery. I don't want to switch out the motherboard because I would end up switching the processor and a bunch of other things, well cause that's just the way my ocd works. So long story short I was thinking of just soldering on 2 wire leads, one to the positive and one to the negative and attaching them to a button battery holder off of the board. Anyone tried this? Any negatives that I am not thinking of? It is a Dell prebuilt i5 3.2Ghz processor. I can get the board number if that helps.

My buddy has a Lenovo Thinkpad x220, he purchased this product from ebay as a refurb. It worked fine, up until a liquid was discovered on it mainly the back and non - exposed part of the battery. He did disconnect the battery, cleaned it off, and waited until our other buddy showed up with his tools. (I was at work without my tools.) Our buddy cracked her open. no liquids or such evidence that any was present recently. Now it wont boot. Flashes 3 , 2 , 1 long. if I am not mistaken. TROUBLE SHOOTING. Ac boot - nope bat boot - nope ac/bat boot - nope We then open her up to reassure and determine any other could be problems. Forums claim it may be the motherboard. Ac block smells of a static burn metillca smell. Another Forum said the cmos/bios detachment could help fully discharge the system. I personally wasn't hands on with it being I was at work again during this 2 day process. So we do that, reassemble and re do the trials. it now BOOTS however, some boots (mostly tested plug only.) cmos error, chksum bad. The keyboard does not respond. We've reseated it many times. plugged the battery back in, still the same brick wall. I am about to use an usb wireless and wired keyboard to see if it that produces results. System specs as much as I can recollect. Windows 7 service pack 1 ( another issue is updating windows, we yet to try to refresh.) intel i 5 mobile ati gpu - low grade 8 gb ram any ideas? any other information that I can provide that will help remedy this issue? thanks in advance! Edit: we used the wired keyboard worked! now it works kind of there is beeping constantly it also changes in pace. but its mostly like b b b b b every 2 seconds. The mouse buttons left and right. And the red track button. Slowly acknowleding other keys and the mouse track pad.

My computer was working fine but suddenly stopped working I cleared cmos because I had the same problem in the past in another computer and it worked.. Except whenever I shutdown my computer it wont bootup again unless I clear CMOS each time (by using the jumper) Is my motherboard damaged? CPU: i5 6600 Mobo: H110i PRO AC ITX

My computer suddenly stopped working, and everything connected to the motherboard isn't working so people told me I need to clear CMOS... They provided my with this image below of my motherboard but Im still a bit confused I read the motherboard manual as well and it says "Resetting BIOS to default values 1. Power off the computer and unplug the power cord 2. Use a jumper cap to short JBAT1 for about 5-10 seconds. 3. Remove the jumper cap from JBAT1. 4. Plug the power cord and power on the computer." This made me even more confused, Where do I find this "Jumper cap" and how do I use it to "short" JBAT1! Please HELP!

I reset the CMOS via jump pins on Z68XP-UD3 motherboard in an attempt to fix the system not picking up total installed RAM (8GB total, system bios stating only 4GB total installed). After performing the CMOS jump, the system failed to post and is continually stopping and starting. I have a custom built PC that has been booting normally for a long time after its completion, but suddenly after I turn it on, I am prompted to the bios, as it refuses to boot into windows. Just to be clear, all of my components are displaying as they should, including my m.2 where windows is installed on. I attempted the usual enable/disable secure boot and csm thingamajig with no success. I then cleared the cmos by taking the battery out and using a screw driver to connect both jumper pins, no success. I then resorted to installing a new copy of Windows on the same drive as the other, possibly corrupted, Windows, which didn't work, as whenever the installation process was finished and the "Your PC will restart in 10, 9..." message appears, it restarts, and I'm back at the "Choose your language" purple background part. In other words, an endless installation loop. Specs: TUF Z370-Plus i5 8600k 16gb ddr4 Viper ra RX 580 (Although I removed it for battery access) If you have any more questions about specs, I will answer. Thank you,

Hello, I recently got myself a new gaming computer but there is this weird CMOS Issue. My rig: - Gigabyte B450m DS3H (Running BIOS ver F41) - Ryzen 5 3600 (Running at stock, I just have ryzen master installed) - Asus TUF 1660 Gaming OC - G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x8 (Running XMP at 2933Mhz, Stable) - Windows 10 Pro (ver 1903) - 1TB Seagate Barracuda + 480GB Kingston A400 The computer works completely fine and everything is stable, I'm getting the performance I'm supposed to get from such a system comparing it to benchmarks. The weird Issue is that whenever I turn on the PC after a long time; like when I go to sleep; all the fans spin but nothing posts, there's no output. I have to take out my GPU, take out the CMOS Battery and then put it back in after a minute for the computer to post again. Once the PC is back on, everything works fine and I just have to turn XMP back on. I tried using another CMOS Battery (I'm not sure if this ones good either) but the same issue persists. Any help regarding this would be appreciated. I got this gaming PC after years of waiting and it's just really sad to see such an issue with a new motherboard. Thank you.

This is absolutely frustrating. My asrock motherboard seemingly broke after I completed the build. Before I had done that though, I have tested it outside the case for a good half hour with no issues. In that time I have updated the bios, and even run a few games. All of the components were fine. Now as I boot up the pc, it freezes on the bios splash screen. After clearing the cmos it freezes on the " uefi deafaults have been loaded" screen. The keyboard is unresponsive, even though it does get power, but only until it is unplugged from the usb slot. After it is unplugged it doesn't get power anymore. I don't know what to do. I find it unlikely that the case shorted out the motherboard as all the standoffs came preinstalled and I took special care not to scratch or bump any smd components on the underside. How can I even diagnose this? What do?

BIOS Resets if PSU is switched on overnight prior to Boot
TopGunPC posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hello all, I have been having an issue with my PC. It is my second build. I have safely overclocked the RAM on the motherboard to 3200MHz with the standard XMP setting. (1.35v) It starts fine, however I have found if I leave my PSU switched on for extended time, (overnight) my BIOS fully resets, including my RAM to the stock 2133MHz. My PSU is a 550w and my estiamted wattage on PCPartPicker is 374w. My CPU and GPU I have completely 'un-overclocked' to see if that was the issue and even changed the RAM OC to 3000MHz but to no avail. I realize it may not be the best practice to leave the PSU switched on overnight, but I don't think the BIOS should be reset if I do? OS: Windows 10 CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 Motherboard: ASRock B450 PRO4 RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16 GPU: Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 XT Gaming OC 8G Case: Thermaltake Versa H17 Micro ATX Mini Tower Storage: Intel SSD 660p Series 1TB PSU: Rosewill ARC-550 550W Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo BIOS is 3.90, the latest version. Thank you! -

Hey Guys, so I built a new Rig for a friend of mine with the following components. Ryzen 5 3600 RTX2060 Super MSI B450-A Pro Max BeQuiet System Power 500W Ballistix 16GB 3200 When you plug the PC into the wall and flip the switch on the power supply, the Fans of the GPU, CPU und Case turn on immediately to 100% and the EZ Debug CPU LED on the mainboard lights up. But the PC doesn’t boot, no image etc. just the fans. After pressing the power button on the case everything works fine and the PC boots into Windows. The BIOS detects all the components correctly! When shutting it down through Windows, the fans start so ramp up again and the screen is out. I did a CMOS reset, updated the BIOS and reassembled the CPU, GPU and RAM and nothing works. Maybe it is a hardware defect but I dont know which component it is. Maybe you can help me. Thanks! Cheers, Moritz

Today I decided to reset my bios, it had a password and I couldn't remember it. I opened my case and took of the CMOS jumper, i put it on the other two pins, waited, put it back on the other two, powered on the pc and, suprise, it didn't boot. My motherboard is: A960D+ When powering on, I get a video output (A black screen, never changes, both when connected to the graphics card output and to the output from the motherboard) Keyboard & Mouse power on (Lights go on) I can't do anything, blackscreen forever. I've already reconnected the jumper. After a bit of googling, I think it might be an issue with the power supply connection to the motherboard. Please, help.

Hello, recently took my case apart to clean out some dust from the side panels, however when I closed it back up the computer wouldn’t boot. I started by replugging cables and removing my graphics card - as well as rearranging, reseating and removing my RAM. My computer would turn on when RAM was removed, however I can’t get a video signal without it. I used my mates spare RAM to see if the RAM was faulty, but again it didn’t boot. When holding down the power button, the on off loop was stopped, but the BAT1 cmos light flashed - so I reset the CMOS, removing the battery multiple times whilst powered off, as well as trying to jump the CMOS. But still no luck. Finally I’ve checked the build with another psu (taking apart my mates computer poor sod) still to no avail. Because ive tried all these things I’m assuming there’s something wrong with my motherboard/cpu - considering buying a new one unless anyone has any ideas, cheers BUILD : built in 2015:/ I5 4690k msi z97 5 series gtx 970 msi XTR psu 650w gold

Hello, I have an Acer Travelmate 8473 which i bought from my high school and intend to use for university. After purchasing i removed the "intel ssd 320 series 120gb" and proceeded to delete everything off of it from another computer to remove everything from it and install windows 10 (previously had windows 7). However, while choosing the partitions to install on it would say "the hard disk space is formatted with an unsupported version of the ntfs file system" and something to do with a setting in the bios. However, i am unable to enter the bios due to a "password/unlock key" I have tried without any success - removing the CMOS battery for approx an hour. - jumping the G2201 gap https://www.manualslib.com/manual/232773/Acer-Travelmate-6495t.html?page=68#manual (the instructions i followed) If anyone has a solution i could try please reply. I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks for reading!

Hi, I'm running a Ryzen 1600x, rx480, 16gb of ram, a samsung 850 evo 500gb, toshiba 3tb HDD and an MSI B350 Tomahawk Arctic which I built around a year and half ago, the release of ryzen 5. I had a look in bios today and realised I hadn't updated my bios in a while so I went andflashed and had no problems but before booting into windows I decided I would attempt a ram overclock as they had never worked previously so i set XMP to 3200mhz and exited bios... The pc stayed with only the cpu light lit and no signal for a very long period of time so I decided to restart the pc... Now whenever I turn it on the cpu light comes on and never progresses past this and doesnt boot... I have attempted to clear cmos by removing the battery but to no avail... Any suggestions? All other posts seem to be about new builds... Note: I have tried removing the cmos battery with power to PSU on and off, By shorting the reset pins. I also have put up threads on tom's hardware but nothing has been suggested other than what I just mentioned... I feel my motherboard could be the problem but I'm honestly not sure. Thanks, Dan

Hello, I'm trying to help my boss fix his gaming PC. It's a prebuilt Asus g20 desktop, and he allowed his nephew to use the PC and ended up with a Bios password. (Gotta love kids huh) I have used the CMOS jumper, shorted the battery pins, and the password prompt still appears. I have tried the date-based rescue password method, but pressing Alt + R at the password screen does nothing except enter a character into the password box ("r" i would assume). The MoBo is H170-P/G20CB/DP_MB, I don't know the Bios version since I can't load bios or boot windows. Any suggestions? Thanks

Pc won't boot past bios after upgrading cpu.
JakobH posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hiya. So just yesterday I've upgraded CPU's from a G4560 to an i5 6600k (which my mobo supports both gens.) Initially upon startup I'd be stuck on the bios splash screen frozen and absolutely nothing would happen my keyboard would be completely unresponsive not allowing me to even enter the bios. I attempted to revert to my old CPU to see if it would boot to windows but I would again encounter the same issue. I've tried various troubleshooting such as removing the ram gpu and all other hardware to make sure everything was connected appropriately to see if it would make any impact which it did not. So I've now tried resetting cmos (using the paperclip method as my motherboard B250M PRO VD does not have a cmos jumper.) Since resetting cmos I believe I've made some progress where my pc will now allow me to boot into the bios on the first startup where my mouse and keyboard are now also responsive. However when I attempt to reboot I again encounter the frozen bios splash screen but upon resetting the cmos I am able to reach the bios again. Now I'm completely struck on what I need to do inorder to get my pc booting successfully to windows. The only ideas I've come up with is whether it might now be a harddrive issue and the fact I have 2 WD harddrives installed. Or that I need to update the bios. Id just like some advice on what to do inorder to get to windows as I'm a tad scared of completely screwing everything up ?? thanks. -
hey guyz pls help me if u can. i updated x370 to 4207 bios version. everything goes well the system restart and then nothing happened. black screen for over 5 10 min. that piont i restart my pc. after this the american megatrend logo goes on and it say "press f1 to recover bios settings. when raid configuration was built ensure to set sata configuration to raid mode" when i press f1 it goes to bios the bios is updated but when i eanna restart it happens again. if i force boot windows load manager it has a blue screen troubleshoot etc.. and i reset cmos in 2 type not helped. i am in other os mode and ahci not raid.

Downloaded MSI Dragon Centre to double check my BIOS firmware was up to date, proceeded to download all all the realtek, bluetooth etc firmware updates, then also clicked on the MS-7C37 update, took several minutes, then black screen, no ability to turn off computer, had to actually switch power button off psu just so I could get in there and reset cmos battery. Also noticed cpu failure led, which is funny because I put the system together 4 days ago and it wasn't doa. Now im sketched out. Anyone else have any of these troubles. My advice, download directly from MSi downloads, not through this program.

Long story short, in hopes of reaching higher frequency, I set the ram timings to max and then thought of decreasing them step by step to get the lowest timings and highest frequency. Now pc won't boot up, even after removing and reinserting cmos battery. The fans spin at max speed and pc doesn't 'bootloop' like it used to after a failed oc attempt. One thing I observed that when i press the power button just after reinserting the battery, led's in fans get dimmer for a second then become bright again, otherwise they remain brightest throughout. Pls help me out and thanks.

Hi, So i apologise if this is in the wrong section as its both a motherboard and storage issue but i have two drives running in RAID 0 that only show up if i reset the CMOS before boot. i Have an SSD and another HDD that show up just fine with a restart, but the other two drives will disappear from the bios disk manager etc after a restart. Does anyone know what might be causing this, i dont want to have to short the pins before every boot. ROG STRIX B450-F is my motherboard if that helps
