  1. (Backstory, skip to next brackets for troubleshooting info) Hello, i am a very new builder, and prior to my assembly of this pc i need help with, my gaming set up was a ~$500 pre built dell desktop with an i3 4150, 8gb of ddr3 ram, a 1tb hdd, dell 300w psu, and a gtx 750ti slapped in there for power. Recently, i decided to buy a case, new motherboard, and psu for upgradability of this machine. I bought an atx tower by rosewill, 500w evga psu, and an msi mini atx (i believe ?) ddr3 mobo. I watched tutorials to help me put it all together and, after a bit of confusion with accidentally misplacing the jumpers, i had success! The pc was up and running like normal after some getting warmed up. [heres where the problems start] However, this morning i opened up star wars jedi knight jedi outcast to play and after a bit left it running to go play xbox downstairs with a friend, upon returning i had a blue screen! Odd especiallyl considering how unintensive the game was. Since the "report" to ms was not loading (0%) i turned the computer off and on again to find no video on my monitors, but all fans running (3 case fans, cpu cooler, gpu, psu, all running) i did extensive researching all day today and tried EVERYTHING i could thus far (resetting cmos, changing ram, reapplying cpu in case there was some loose thermal paste, trying my old motherboard, unplugging hdd to see if it is corrupted) to absolutely no avail. Any advice? Could this be my cpu, psu, or motherboard? And how could i fix it? Thanks in advance for reading all of this and trying to help. If you need any more info ask and i can try to supply UPDATE: I put my computer back in its original shoddy dell case and tried out its 300w power supply, a yellow light came on FINALLY giving me some sort of information, the case looks like this, any ideas?
  2. down votefavorite Once in 2 or 3 days, I need to reset CMOS of my new PC just to boot. Otherwise it just won't boot. Even power lights won't light up. I tried many things to solve this. Here is the list. 1. I checked every other parts, even GPU with another PC and it worked just fine. 2. Updated BIOS but problem occurred again. 3. Reset BIOS to default. Removed CMOS battery. worked for few days but again with this boot problem. I'm facing this problem from the time I bought this PC and it's been a month. At first I thought maybe I had something wrong setting up the PC and tried to fix it as I described before. I even replaced that Gigabyte H110M-S2PV-CF (DDR4) mainboard. It was fine for a week. and again with this booting problem again! Most heavy thing I do with this PC is using Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015. I also use othe Adobe Products like Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, In Design and sometimes Lightroom too. Never Installed any game before. And I updated every single driver as well. I'm using Windows 10. here's my specs, Mainboard: Gigabyte H110M-S2PV-CF (DDR4) [rev. 1.0] Processor: Intel i5 6500 RAM : Vengeance® LPX 8GB DDR4 DRAM 2400MHz x 2 = 16GB in total PSU : Thermaltake 550 watt light power GPU : Zotac Nvidia GT 730 2GB GDDR5 Storage : 1TB Toshiba Display : Dell S2216H 21.5-Inch Full HD LED Monitor [note: my mainboard supprots 2133MHz RAM but I installed 2400MHz ones.] I'm thinking about buying a new mainboard. But it would be really helpful to know the exact problem. Because I'm losing my trust in "Gigabyte".
  3. My computer will only boot and work if the jumper is placed at 2+3 position(i.e bios reset position) and won’t turn on after loading optimized settings and setting the date then putting the jumpet to its normal 1+2 position. I’ve a Msi 945GCM7 motherboard and i don’t have much knowledge about the system and jumper positioning( i only followed the internets methods and still cannot figure out) The pc works fine when putting the jumper at 2+3 position but i get thrown to the screen where it says cmos setting not correct. As per my diagnosis the problem is with the motherboard and no other hardware.
  4. Hello, I have a Blusens TV (I think It's a local brand from Spain) that works perfectly. Somehow there is a mode called "energy saver" that turn down the display but not the TV itself, just the panel. I turned it by accident and now whenever I turn on the TV, the panel just down inmediately because the "energy saver" mode is still enabled. So imagine that as PCs, TVs storage all the setting on a memory powered by a battery (some kind of CMOS), so opened the in search of any kind battery to remove and then put back it. But I didn't see anything. I don't what to search for really and there is no other way to reset the TV since I can't see what is going on in the menus (which I can open since the TV can start). My final solution is to make random movements on the TV's menus till I manage to reset it. Any ideas on what to search for to reset it "via hardware" or another solution? Thanks
  5. Hello guys, I've finished building my PC yesterday, here are the specs: MOBO: MSi B350M Mortar RAM: 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX @3000MHz CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (Stock for now) GPU: Zotac GTX 970 AMP! Omega Core PSU: Corsair CX650W (the black label one) SSD: Kingston A400 120GB HDD: WD Blue 1TB CASE: NZXT S340 I installled Windows and everything went fine, I could only get my RAM running at 2667MHz but that's ok. I'm having a pretty annoying problem now. I turned off my PC yesterday at night, as I usually do. PSU off, power strip off and off the wall. I turned my PC back on today to find this message: "Devices Changed (CPU or Memory) or CMOS have been Cleared. Please enter Setup to configure your system." I can boot just fine if I go with default settings or if I set my RAM back to 2667, but everytime I turn off my PC this happens. BIOS is on the latest version. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Thanks
  6. Hey guys, I need some new input. Well, the title is pretty self-explanatory. My PC wouldn't start, it turns on and shuts off immediately. What happened the night before: for some reason arch linux went sleep and I couldn't wake it up so I kill-switched it with PSU on-off switch (don't think that's the cause or is it?), so the morning I push the start button and voila, it won't start. PSU makes a "click" sound, Q code shows 00 and the it shuts down. Narrowed down to 3 parts: MOBO, CPU and RAM. Everything else is literally unplugged. The PSU tested on my other PC, works just fine. Visually inspected MOBO, looks normal. No smell. Checked for loose cables. SPECS: ASUS ROG STRIX X299-E GAMING Intel i9 7900x GSKILL 8*8GB Trident Z RGB 3200Mhz 850 EVGA G3 GOLD SOLVED What I did was remove the CMOS battery and followed the "Clear RTC RAM" instructions.
  7. I recently upgraded my Alienware x51 R1’s Graphics card to a PNY GTX 1050ti. After installing the hardware and plugging my monitor into the drive it boots to this screen (see attached image) and then stays frozen on it, any keyboard inputs are met with clicks from the computer. The computer also makes a single periodic beep. My Computer: Its BIOS is currently at A03 (attemps to update are met with “Restart Application” error) My OS is Windows 10 Home 64bit I have an i7-3770 Processor 330w Power Supply 8GB Total RAM I have attempted to reset the BIOS/CMOS using Dell’s instructions ( http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/sln284985/how-to-perform-a-bios-or-cmos-reset-and-or-clear-the-nvram-on-your-dell-system?lang=en ) but have not been successful due to not understanding the instructions. (Keep getting confused at step 6) Have tried the “normal” way by switching one jumper to pins 2 and 3 then back, and then both jumpers when that didn’t work. I have tried just about everything I can think of except taking off the battery, although I can’t tell wether its able to be put back in place or not which is what has kept me from doing so. (Pictures of both battery and jumpers provided) My computer boots just fine when I used my previous Graphics Card. Ive been stuck on this for about 2 days now and have been unable to find anything related to my problem. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, thank you for taking the time to read.
  8. So, my wife and I got a used gaming PC back in may of 2017 it was extremely well kept and the person barely used it, maybe once a week if even. It has worked beautifully since, however maybe a month or two after getting it we ran into a problem where the time would change after booting up and be a hour or so off. The date never changes. So I got a new CMOS battery went through all hell pulling the motherboard out to get the protective shroud off of it and putting a new battery in. Cool, it was back to normal. Two months later, again time starts changing. This time it does it after resyncing the time, about 30 minutes later the time end up not being correct. Okay, replaced CMOS again. Now it seems that I have been replacing the CMOS more and more frequently. It dies within 3 weeks to a month on schedule every time. Is this a sign my motherboard is dying? Since the PC came with a GTX 670 2gb I'm assuming it has to be from 2012 or 2013, so what 5 years old. I don't have something to test the batteries to see if they're actually dying however it is strange that replaces them does fix it temporarily. Now I do have my CPU overclocked, I have a I7-4770k oc'd to 4.3ghz at 1.25v been stable there since we got it, not sure if that could affect it. I can't find any posts through google or elsewhere with this same issue so here I am now. Anyone have some sort of idea/s on what this could be? Is it hardware related, software related, bios maybe? Specs ASUS Maximus VI Formula Z87 GTX 1060 6gb I7-4770k 4.3ghz Samsung 950 evo SSD 16gbs DDR3 Windows 10 Pro [SOLVED] - So it seems this entire time it isn't the CMOS, but something to do with Windows 10 I'm assuming. I found a forum, and someone suggested this fix. Step 1. Right click on windows. Step 2. Run, and type services.msc and hit enter. Step 3. Find Windows Time make sure it is running, and if not click restart. Now even if it is go ahead right click and go to properties. Step 4. Make sure under Startup type, it says automatic and not manual. Manual is what mine was set to and the cause of my time screwing up.
  9. Whenever I turn my PC off, my CMOS is cleared. I've checked the battery, it's good. I couldn't find of other causes. MoBo is gigabyte ga ab 350 gaming 3 EDIT I just found that label. I don't know what it's for.
  10. After switching on my pc, my cmos have been cleared . It occurs to me everytime after i switch off my pc, my cmos is resetted. The attached is the screen that pops out everytime i switch on my pc. How do i solve and rectify this issue, after the pc is booted to windows, this is working perfectly fine. May i ask for assistance please and thank you!
  11. Dear all, my rig is ryzen 1700 x370 msi gaming pro carbon 16gb corsair vengeance 2400mhz Msi gtx 1080ti founders New to troubleshooting, whenever i switch off my pc, i boot it , it boots to post, asking me to press f2 to continue, or select an overclocking profile. After trying to reset the cmos by removing it and putting it back, my pc is unable to switch on anymore. 2 days ago before this happen, my windows 10 clock is always messed up and i have to resynchronise it before it is back to normal. is there any specific issue that happened, or what has happened? sorry guys and thanks
  12. Hello everyone. I have R6 1600 / B350M mortar system. A few days ago the power went out. After that, CMOS is resetting itself every day. There was no other electricity interruption. Thanks for your help
  13. Hi, Recently my PC has been refusing to get past the windows 10 loading screen and just displays a black screen instead of the login screen after the loading screen. This happens after I put it to sleep and turn it back on or sometimes when i just leave it shutdown for a while without clearing CMOS and removing the CMOS battery and even that sometimes has be repeated a few times. I use a new Crossover2795QHD 1440p monitor but my PC seem to always boot properly when I use my old 1080p monitor. I'm using a GTX 1070 (you can check the rest of my specs in my signature or on my profile) and am wondering if this is a driver issue since it is a new card or it is another part of my PC/Windows 10 issue. Thanks any ideas would be appreciated
  14. I just finished building a PC, the specs were: -CPU: Intel i7-6700 -GPU: MSI R9 390X -PSU: EVGA 750W 80+ Bronze Power Supply -RAM: Kingston HyperX DDR4-2600 RAM -Storage: Seagate 2TB SSHD, Intel 730 Series 240GB -Case: NZXT S340 -Cooler: Hydro Series GTX H100i -Mobo: Z170A MSI Gaming M7 The power lights were turned on and even if I pressed the button on the Mobo or the front panel power button, It won't give me even a beep. I tried pulling out the RAM, and it still didn't produce a beep. None of the fans are running, nor the lights except for the ones on the Motherboard. Just a quick note, are the fans that are installed on the top of the radiator supposed to be connected to the CASE FAN ports on the mobo, or the cooler itself? Also, my CMOS light comes on when I press the power switch. Is this relevant, and if it is, how do I fix it? It's my first build EVER, so it would be a lot helpful if you explained things in detail. Thank you.
  15. 16/10/2015 Morning: My Pc was running fine. I got some windows updates installed, I didn't check what they were, got them installed after a restart and turned off my PC Afternoon: My PC entered boot loop at POST, it tries to get into the bios by itself but restarts immediately. What I've tried: Disconnected all SATA drives and peripheral devices. (Result: No change) Removed my GPU, connected my HDMI to my MOBO.(Result: No change) Tried a different RAM stick (from my old rig).(Result: No change) Tried to run my old RIG off the PSU I use for this PC, it works fine. Tried my RAM Stick on old RIG, it works fine. Tried to enter Dual Bios by holding the power button until a complete boot cycle and then pressing it again.(Result: MOBO didn't try repairing my main BIOS, no change ) Cleared CMOS by shorting CLR_CMOS and holding power button for 15-20 seconds with PSU removed (My mobo doesn't have jumper, it's just two pins I could find, took care of grounding, Result: no change) I can't find another LGA1150 Mobo to test my CPU (LGA775 and FM2 everywhere ) Made sure my MOBO standoffs are high enough to avoid shorting on pins on the back of my MOBO.(Result: No change) Cleaned Dust (Result: No change) I don't rely on random google search results or stupid forums where I'm told to clean dust properly, or try reinstalling windows or made to jump into the "OBVIOUS Conclusions" saying my components are dead. I am no expert, please advise me.Thanks in advance SYSTEM SPECS: Mobo: Gigabyte Z97M-D3H (rev 1.0) CPU: i7 4790 GPU: ASUS STRIX GTX 970 RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 1866Mhz CL 10 SSD: 120 Gb Samsung 850 EVO PSU: Corsair CX 500 (Non- Modular) HDD: Seagate Black 2 TB, 120 + 80 Gb WD (backup). 16. Plz help me. I was booting up my computer, and decided to go check out my BIOS. I decided to put my 2133-Mhz ram up to 2133 Mhz instead of the AUTO selection, and when I pressed save and reboot... nothing. I have tried reseting the CMOS by removing the battery, and shorting the CMOS pins multiple times, yes, the computer was unplugged. The main thing that annoys me about having to reset the CMOS is having to take out my graphics card and put it back in since my motherboard doesn't have any types of display ports on it.Anybody have an answer? Thanks in advance.I am tired, and waiting to play Battlegrounds. Motherboard: MSI 970 GAMINGProcessor: AMD FX-8320ERAM: Corsair Vengeance 16gbGraphics Card: MSI GTX 1060
  17. so just got done putting this pc together . everything is working except when i put the hdmi into the tv from my graphics card nothing comes up. i think its because its a used motherboard and i need to clear the cmos. so i was wondering how i do that for the msi 970 because its differnt from the ones on youtube thanks.
  18. So recently I wanted to boot off a flash drive to see if it worked, but I forgot the password to my bios and it asks for it when I hit f12 for the boot device menu. No big deal, I'll just clear the CMOS, right? Wrong. Multiple times now I have turned off the PC and PSU, held a screwdriver to the CLR_CMOS pins for 30 sec, and booted the PC. It still needs a password. I have also taken the 24 pin connector out, turned off the PC and PSU, and taken the battery out, letting it sit for 30 min. Then I put it back in, boot up, and it still asks for a password. I've also tried some of the "backdoor" BIOS passwords and none of them work. The wierd thing is, however, the PC doesn't boot up normally anymore. There is no splash screen, and it doesn't boot into Windows. It just goes straight to asking for a password. My motherboard is Gigabye G2A88XM-HD3 (check my signature, I might have gotten that wrong. It's correct in my sig). Any suggestions? Thanks! EDIT: I should mention that I have done absolutely no overclocking whatsoever, or any changes for that matter. No BIOS/hardware changes have been made since my last successful boot and now.
  19. I have a completed build: Windows 10 OS X99 Deluxe i7 5960X So here is my problem. The computer won't boot when I hit the power button. There is a periodic clicking noise if I hit the power button which I believe is the PSU trying to start. There doesn't seem to be a problem with my PSU though, because when I hold down the clear cmos button the computer will take me to a screen that says I need to enter BIOS to configure a raid setup (which I am not trying to do in this build). So after I enter BIOS I manually select my boot drive and windows starts and everything is fine. I can hit the reset button and the computer will start up fine again. I can also hit the power down button and it will power down fine. The problem occurs again after I hit the power button and try to boot up the pc. Then you can read from the beginning of the paragraph because the exact same issue is found. Any help is appreciated.
  20. Hey everybody! I'm quite new to this, and I hope everybody here would help me fix it. You see, I have Acer Aspire 4830TG, and somehow I screw up the BIOS. Previously I can't boot my OS, and I already diagnose and conclude that my HDD is the main problem. So I change it to Kingston SSD 120GB. But I have issue with my graphic card due to it cannot install it's own driver for some reason, so I kinda mess up with the BIOS setting. After rebooting, there's no ACER logo for me to access to the BIOS setting. So I was wonder if removing the CMOS battery would help. Thanks!
  21. I cleared the CMOS via the jumper on my Z-87k Motherboard. This was to reset my bios info and so forth, after doing it, the motherboard will not cut on. The Green LED indicating power is going to the motherboard is present. I cannot hear any beeps due to not having a internal speaker on the motherboard. I've cleared the CMOS before via the battery before and it all went fine, now it simply just will not cut on, after hitting the power button the computer does nothing at all. RIG i7-4770k - Watercooled 16 Gigs of Adata Ram (Currently using test ram which is 2x 4gig sticks until i can get the pc back up) GTX 970 FTW 4G 1T HDD 500G Samsung SSD As of now I only have the bare minimun connected to my PC - CPU - Water Cooler - 1Stick of 4g Ram - Pwr Sw - Reset Sw - 4/8 pin cpu connector - 24pin power connector The power supply works fine as I've already jumped it to see if it was dead. I would like to know if my CPU has been fried along with the GPU, as I have ordered new parts since this happened and am waiting on them to arrive to switch the motherboard out, and before I buy anything else I would like to know the run down and if I can fix this motherboard.
  22. I had recently built a computer (parts below) •MSI Z97 PC Mate •i5 4460 3.2 Quad Core •Zotac GeForce GTX 970 4GB DDR5 •G.Skill Ripjaws 8GB(2x4GB) 2400Mhz •EVGA 600B 600w PSU •Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo air cooling I've had this build for 2 weeks working completely fine. Out of nowhere when I turn my PC on one day every fan and light powers on but I got no display on my monitor. There was no heating issued both the motherboard and cpu sat at around 20-30 degrees celcius. I never took the side panels off after the build was complete, so I doubt it was an issue with static. I did reset the CMOS chip but still nothing helped. I did make sure everything was plugged in all the way and nothing was wrong with it the night before. What problems could it be besides my motherboard, or are MSI motherboards really that bad? My friend ended up also have the same problems.
  23. Hey guys, I just built my first OC capable PC and I am now running into some issues. I was just watching youtube before, and my computer froze up solid. It didn't BSOD or give any error. The video stopped, I couldn't move my mouse at all, no keyboard inputs would work. I held down the power button and rebooted my machine. I downloaded Prime95 and tried to run a small FFT test on 8 threads, and it locked up immediately after pressing start stress test. I shut down my comp again, cleared my CMOS, and booted again. This time, I tried a 4 thread test, with the same result. I have no idea what is going on. I had tried a bit of an over clock earlier today by going into my UEFI and having it do an auto tune, and it got it up to 4.4GHz at 1.4 volts. I didn't really wanna run my CPU like that, so I just reset it to default. Could this have something to do with it? I was just gaming with no issue before this happened (TF2 at Max settings). I could really use some help, because I just got these parts yesterday. Parts: i7 4770k CPU (stock cooler) Gigabyte GA Z87-HD3 motherboard 1 4GB stick Corsair Vengeance RAM Gigabyte 650Ti GPU 250GB HDD 400W Seasonic Fanless Powersupply 80+ Gold certified I don't have a case because its on backorder, I am running it as a "test bench" on top of my motherboard box. I have always disconnected the system from power and grounded myself before going near the machine or messing with any of the components. Notes: At the last freeze, I had CPUIDHWMonitor open. It looks like the cores were at about 35-40 degrees Celsius and the voltage as around 1-1.1. At least, thats what it was at the moment of freezing. Could it just be a lack of voltage as the CPU kicks up to turbo mode?
  24. Hey guys! i was wondering if you could help me out with whatever problem im having. So recently my pc has been having trouble booting up. Whenever i start up my pc it wont boot from anything unless i go into my boot manager. I decided to fix this problem my formatting my pc and installing a new OS. When i was installing the new OS the pc has to restart and when it did the OS did not load from the disk and went straight to the blank screen(in the pictures.) I changed my boot priority many times in the BIOS settings and still it wont load from the disk or hard drive. I've also reset and replaced my CMOS battery. I honestly dont know what i can do at this point to get it to boot properly and install the OS. My PC is an Alienware Aurora R3 i bought it second hand back in 2014 and just have been upgrading RAM and the GPU. Specs: Intel i7-2600 i forgot what the motherboard model was but its by ASUS and i cant really turn it on to find out. Nvidia GeForce 760 16GB RAM 800w power supply if you guys need any more information just let me know. I'll try and pull it out if i can.
  25. Guys I need your help ! I finished a new build (my 6th so far) as a Christmas present but it won't post ! Even worst, the damn motherboard doesn't even show a power LED when connected to my power supply (I think there's no indicator on the motherboard honnestly), nor does it make any sound when I power it on. Back when it was in the case (it isn't anymore for troubleshooting purposes) all fans did spin and my PCI-e modules did receive power. The problem stays the same no matter what I try to do !
