down votefavorite Once in 2 or 3 days, I need to reset CMOS of my new PC just to boot. Otherwise it just won't boot. Even power lights won't light up. I tried many things to solve this. Here is the list. 1. I checked every other parts, even GPU with another PC and it worked just fine. 2. Updated BIOS but problem occurred again. 3. Reset BIOS to default. Removed CMOS battery. worked for few days but again with this boot problem. I'm facing this problem from the time I bought this PC and it's been a month. At first I thought maybe I had something wrong setting up the PC and tried to fix it as I described before. I even replaced that Gigabyte H110M-S2PV-CF (DDR4) mainboard. It was fine for a week. and again with this booting problem again! Most heavy thing I do with this PC is using Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015. I also use othe Adobe Products like Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, In Design and sometimes Lightroom too. Never Installed any game before. And I updated every single driver as well. I'm using Windows 10. here's my specs, Mainboard: Gigabyte H110M-S2PV-CF (DDR4) [rev. 1.0] Processor: Intel i5 6500 RAM : Vengeance® LPX 8GB DDR4 DRAM 2400MHz x 2 = 16GB in total PSU : Thermaltake 550 watt light power GPU : Zotac Nvidia GT 730 2GB GDDR5 Storage : 1TB Toshiba Display : Dell S2216H 21.5-Inch Full HD LED Monitor [note: my mainboard supprots 2133MHz RAM but I installed 2400MHz ones.] I'm thinking about buying a new mainboard. But it would be really helpful to know the exact problem. Because I'm losing my trust in "Gigabyte". -
Hello, so when i was putting in a screw on the mobo i dropped by screwdriver and i noticed the lithium ion battery came loose, is there any way to fix this or am i screwed?

Just built my new NAS/home server, booted it up and entered the BIOS, and discovered it was reporting that the CPU (Pentium G3220T) was running at 1.7 volts. Since that's probably just a bug and not an accurate reading (especially because the chip was only running at like 37C) I decided to reset CMOS. The board I'm using has no jumper, so I took the battery out and reinserted it. After that I tried to boot up - nothing. No fans spin, nothing happens at all. The motherboard has an indicator light so I know that it's still getting power, but pressing the button just does nothing. I tried disconnecting that and shorting the pins with a screwdriver, still nothing. Since then I've removed and replaced the battery multiple times again, still nothing. What do I do?

So basically in short, my dad and I were upgrading/renovating an old server of his. It is a dual CPU motherboard and we had bought 2 Xeon E5640's for it on ebay. When I installed everything, turned it on and plugged in the VGA cable from the pc into my monitor there was no signal, but the fans started spinning (Turns out these CPUs don't have built-in graphics, which was very stupid of me to not know). I did some research and came across someone who said you had to clear the CMOS by pulling out the silver coin-like battery on the motherboard and reinstalling it 10 minutes later. I unplugged the PSU and then pulled out the battery and reinstalled it 10 min later. However when i reinstalled it and turned on the pc, the fans didn't spin at all (one green light on the motherboard did light up though). I still can't get it to work. Does someone know what is wrong?? CPU: Xeon E5640 MOBO: Asus Z8NA-D6C RAM :6x 4gb sticks If I missed something please tell me

So, the power plug was accidentally pulled while it was on and now it doesn't shut down normally, have to hold down the power button for it to happen. Anyways this was going on for about a week and now it didn't turn on and so i did a CMOS reset and everything works wonders. This has happened twice and is rather annoying. Suggestions? So I upgraded from an AMD a8-5500 to a10-7860k on the MSI a88xm-45 motherboard and it just freezes at boot or if I clear CMOS it well just freeze up as well I have tried resetting it and unplugging everything all that I'm lost at this point I really could use some help I'm having trouble find info on this anywhere to help me clear this up. the first pic is after a clear CMOS the 2nd is if I just normal boot. the dot in the middle of the screen is tape

Okay I have an issue were my Bios resets ever time my computer is completely turned off and then turned back on. No it's not the CMOS battery I have replaced that. Yes I have updated my Bios to F6 latest non beta version of Gigabyte b350 gaming 3 BIOS Yes my computer is working fine, but I want to overclock so I need to save BIOS settings -
Just purchased a new build, keeping my old case/PSU (ocz 650w) and the pc boots up, CPU/GPU fans are spinning and mobo led lights are on but nothing shows on my display. BUILD: Ryzen 5 1600 AMD RX 580 Corsair vengeance LPX 16gb (8gbx2) MSI B350M-A What I've tried: Changing around ram sticks, just one in each slot, both inserted. Removed CMOS battery for 10 minutes then held a screwdriver to the JBAT1 to CLEAR_CMOS Plugged in my old GTX 660ti DVI cable, HDMI cable (benq xl2410t I think is the monitor model, old 120hz monitor) I have reinserted my old build and that boots fine. Breadboarding the mobo on a cardboard box so nothing like a standoff should be shorting anything MOBO speaker is plugged in and not making any sound (I removed all ram to check the speaker is working and it did beep when no ram connected) image of the build running (old 660ti plugged in here but shows it booting image of the JBAT1 pins that I connected with a screwdriver for 5 seconds to clear the cmos (can someone confirm these are in fact the correct pins) SUMMARY: I'm pretty new to this stuff although I have spent many hours researching everything and I believe it's possible that the ram is not compatible (EVEN THOUGH IT SHOULD BE) or the mobo is Faulty, any other trouble shooting tips I should try or what should I try to return/change? I don't have access to any other ddr4 ram [EDIT: added two images of the build booting and the two JBAT1 pins I connected to clear the cmos asking if someone can verify these are in fact the correct pins]

Plz help me. I was booting up my computer, and decided to go check out my BIOS. I decided to put my 2133-Mhz ram up to 2133 Mhz instead of the AUTO selection, and when I pressed save and reboot... nothing. I have tried reseting the CMOS by removing the battery, and shorting the CMOS pins multiple times, yes, the computer was unplugged. The main thing that annoys me about having to reset the CMOS is having to take out my graphics card and put it back in since my motherboard doesn't have any types of display ports on it.Anybody have an answer?Thanks in advance.I am tired, and waiting to play Battlegrounds. I never even considered this as an option until someone pointed it out to me. I have a brand new board (well, I bought it used but the original owner bought it new). I have been having intermittent trouble with the board resetting itself after the system is shut down, and now it is doing it without fail every single time. It lasted a week or so of being ok, and on installing a new GPU is where my issues started, i.e. after the PC was disconnected from the wall. On power up, the LEDs revert back to their default static red, and entering the BIOS says 'BIOS settings have been reset, press ok to continue.' After a Reddit user mentioned CMOS, I did have a look at the battery, and it looked... well, not new, put it that way. It is definitely a little scratched up and worn. Is it possible that a bad battery went into the board on its initial manufacture? At first I thought it was an unstable OC, but reverting to stock does nowt either! Can send any more info if needed, but I'm almost convinced (as odd as it sounds) that the CMOS battery is to blame. -
umm ok so hear me out i just built a new rig rite and it works i install windows and it works for about 3 days then i realize i haven't installed my mobo and GPU drivers and i'm looking at the discs and i'm like crap i didn't install my optical drive so i install it no biggie but then i get the power cable and i plug it in and stuff and once i plug in the monitor it doesn't boot no bios no windows the monitor says it detects a source but there's nothing on screen {} and all the fans and led's are on but it shows nada on the screen so i think and think and think and think and think (2 minutes later) after staring at my comp i realize its either the bios or the hard drive but my hard drive is a new 1tb seagate and i'm like it cant be that and so i think its my bios so i look at how to reset my bios and it says i need to clear my cmos and i'm like wth is that so i research a tad and i look at my manual and i see this weird thing but idk wht it is and i'm like what is that its not a button its not a jumper like wth is it so yea that's where i'm stuck at i even took out the optical drive and it didn't change so ummm i need help i tried uploading the pics off m phone but it keeps saying upload failed so yea .......... heres a pdf of the mobo manual go to page 11 http://asrock.pc.cdn.bitgravity.com/Manual/H110M-HDS.pdf

Hello, I have a Blusens TV (I think It's a local brand from Spain) that works perfectly. Somehow there is a mode called "energy saver" that turn down the display but not the TV itself, just the panel. I turned it by accident and now whenever I turn on the TV, the panel just down inmediately because the "energy saver" mode is still enabled. So imagine that as PCs, TVs storage all the setting on a memory powered by a battery (some kind of CMOS), so opened the in search of any kind battery to remove and then put back it. But I didn't see anything. I don't what to search for really and there is no other way to reset the TV since I can't see what is going on in the menus (which I can open since the TV can start). My final solution is to make random movements on the TV's menus till I manage to reset it. Any ideas on what to search for to reset it "via hardware" or another solution? Thanks

Hello guys, I've finished building my PC yesterday, here are the specs: MOBO: MSi B350M Mortar RAM: 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX @3000MHz CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (Stock for now) GPU: Zotac GTX 970 AMP! Omega Core PSU: Corsair CX650W (the black label one) SSD: Kingston A400 120GB HDD: WD Blue 1TB CASE: NZXT S340 I installled Windows and everything went fine, I could only get my RAM running at 2667MHz but that's ok. I'm having a pretty annoying problem now. I turned off my PC yesterday at night, as I usually do. PSU off, power strip off and off the wall. I turned my PC back on today to find this message: "Devices Changed (CPU or Memory) or CMOS have been Cleared. Please enter Setup to configure your system." I can boot just fine if I go with default settings or if I set my RAM back to 2667, but everytime I turn off my PC this happens. BIOS is on the latest version. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Thanks

Hi smart people on the net. So, I have an issue with an older laptop. I am building a basic media center for my home using an older laptop mobo (Toshiba L50-a0383) I have the motherboard, RAM, HDD, CPU, Cooler, Battery, and screen. When I try to boot the system it displays Low RTC Battery - Press F2 to change Date and Time. I have no Keyboard connected to the inner port, so I cannot press F2. There is nothing that I can do and it seems that I have no input methods, other than a small button which instantly kills the power, and the on/off switch. What I have tried: - Removing the Battery and the CMOS and boot up the system (nothing) - Removing the hard drive and inserting a bootable USB in all the ports (nothing) - Connected to a network via network cable (nothing picked up) - Hold down the reset button 10+ seconds (nothing) - Hold down the on/off button 10+ seconds (nothing) - Hold down both buttons (nothing) - Replaced CMOS battery with brand new battery (nothing) - Plugged in a Microsoft std Keyboard (seems like it didn't even get power) - Plugged wireless Keyboard (no signal) tl;dr So my question is; how can I reset this Mobo to reconfigure the time/date settings or BIOS without the use of a keyboard.. Any suggestions welcome!

Last night I switched my PC off like I normally would and went to bed a little earlier than normal. I have gone to switch the system on this morning and noticed instantly that the 3 case fans were not spinning and their leds were not lit. The cpu cooler had both fans spinning and all leds working, same goes for the gpu and the psu fan was also working. A few months ago when I moved the gpu came loose in transit so this was the first thing i checked but all connections were correctly made. I then turned my attention to the cmos battery that sits underneath my gpu, removed this for a short while and then reinserted. I booted again this time with all fans functioning and got to the bios which I exited without any changes. I found myself at the windows login screen. A success then, I did a quick clean to remove the build up of dust and then put the system back together completely. However when I booted again the same problem occured and repeating the cmos process did nothing. I then checked every cable and component was correctly in place, removed the gpu to check if it would boot using the boards hdmi port but no success. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear all, my rig is ryzen 1700 x370 msi gaming pro carbon 16gb corsair vengeance 2400mhz Msi gtx 1080ti founders New to troubleshooting, whenever i switch off my pc, i boot it , it boots to post, asking me to press f2 to continue, or select an overclocking profile. After trying to reset the cmos by removing it and putting it back, my pc is unable to switch on anymore. 2 days ago before this happen, my windows 10 clock is always messed up and i have to resynchronise it before it is back to normal. is there any specific issue that happened, or what has happened? sorry guys and thanks

Hello everyone. I have R6 1600 / B350M mortar system. A few days ago the power went out. After that, CMOS is resetting itself every day. There was no other electricity interruption. Thanks for your help

After switching on my pc, my cmos have been cleared . It occurs to me everytime after i switch off my pc, my cmos is resetted. The attached is the screen that pops out everytime i switch on my pc. How do i solve and rectify this issue, after the pc is booted to windows, this is working perfectly fine. May i ask for assistance please and thank you!

Good Evening Everyone, I'm having a weird issue with my PC whenever i turn it on. When i turn it on the original splash screen i get that tells me what config I'm running the text is a little buggy. I haven't done anything to it yet to fix the problem as it usually boots right into windows afterwards. Only issue i am having is i can not get into the BIOS in this current state. Something suspects me to believe that the motherboard is on its way out as it is a HP branded one. ( I gutted a HP tower i had lying around) i will be replacing it soon but am curious as to what you guys think i can do to fix the problem. I'm not experiencing any crashes or anything. And I'm playing Games just fine. My Build CPU: I3-4130: 3.5 GHZ RAM: DDR3 Samsung 8GB Motherboard: HP Branded one? Graphics: GTX 970 MSI PSU: EVGA 750W Gold SSD: 240GB Sandisk

My brother recently had me install new RAM in his system. After shutting off his computer and swapping the old RAM with the new RAM, his computer wouldn’t boot. It would turn on, lights and all that, but his motherboard wouldn’t output to his monitor. After some reading, I found out I needed to clear his CMOS, which I did by popping out the battery on the board and leaving it out for a while. Now his computer boots, and I can get to the BIOS and change settings just fine... But windows does not boot. I just get plonked onto a stop error screen with the code INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE and it restarts. I tried putting his old RAM back into to get into windows and try and make a recovery disk, but now Windows won’t boot at all. Any tips would be extremely greatly appreciated. Specs are: Intel i5-4690 ASUS Z97-PRO GAMER New RAM: HyperX DDR3 1866MHz 16GB kit, 2x8GB (HX318C10FBK2/16) Old RAM: Team Group Inc. “Rocksoul” 1600MhZ 8GB kit, 2x4GB (TED34G1600C11BK) Used Windows Error Recovery’s advanced options (from that blue screen you get after it restarts after the inaccessible boot device) to run chkdsk, ran in read only mode. Results attached.

My computer will only boot and work if the jumper is placed at 2+3 position(i.e bios reset position) and won’t turn on after loading optimized settings and setting the date then putting the jumpet to its normal 1+2 position. I’ve a Msi 945GCM7 motherboard and i don’t have much knowledge about the system and jumper positioning( i only followed the internets methods and still cannot figure out) The pc works fine when putting the jumper at 2+3 position but i get thrown to the screen where it says cmos setting not correct. As per my diagnosis the problem is with the motherboard and no other hardware.

This has happened a few times, where if I hold my power button to hard shut down my computer, and I turn it on, everything is reset to default values. It doesn't happen all the time, but i'm concerned I may have defective equipment. My motherboard is a MSI z97 gaming 5 -
A while back I bought an old Acer Extensa 355. It is practically new and works fine, but it has a bad cmos battery. Since I have no experience digging around in 20 year old laptops and there is very little documentation online, I wondered if any of you could help me? I can make a guess as to what the cmos battery is, but I'd rather not brick the machine by doing something stupid. Any help is appreciated
