I have a ADATA XPG 8200 pro 1 terabyte coming in the mail Saturday and I was wondering about cloning. I’ve never swapped hard drives before so I’m very new to this. It seems reinstalling would be a lot more involved and time consuming and I also share the pc with my wife so I don’t want to mess around or screw up her lay out. When I clone my HDD to my new M.2 SSD is it a copy or more of a direct transfer? Or do both of the hard drives now contain the same information? Ideally I’d like both of them to contain the information 1.) because it would be good to have the data backed up and 2.) just in case something goes wrong with the cloning software. I’m very uninformed in all of this. So please the more information someone can share to make this transition to my new SSD would be absolutely appreciated. Thank you

I have an older Alienware laptop, worked on Win 10 Pro for 3+ years without any major issues. Cleaned it and after disconnect from power, nothing but blue screens. Dell said they sold disks to fix my issue but were out of stock, not getting more and my only hope was to track down one of the disks if possible on ebay. Nothing fixed it so I was forced to reset using a Win 7 home disk that came with it and installed an SSD at the same time. Can I wipe the new SSD, then clone it from my desktop with Win 10 and it work properly? I know I may need to tweak a few things and a key but in general would this process work?

Hello everyone and apologies if this has already been covered by someone to some extent but all of my google searching has provided me with no answers to my situation. I run a 2 pc setup for streaming and recording and all in all it runs flawless I recently installed an AVerMedia Live Gamer 4K into my streaming pc and it functions great and I have no screen tearing when streaming PC games on my gaming pc. But I have encountered one issue that I just for the life of me that I cannot figure out how to fix if it's even possible. In my Nvidia control panel I am cloning my monitor to the the Live gamer 4k (both set to 1920x1080 144hz). My windows UI is scaled as it should be normally BUT when I launch a game in Exclusive Fullscreen (not borderless) the scaling gets weird almost as if 1080p is a lower resolution than it should be. An example I can give is Hitman 2 (2018) shows 1080p but on exclusive full screen the resolution is blurry but once i put it to borderless it displays correctly. I have a link thats time stamped at what I am referring to but it is from when I was streaming Black Ops 4. Once I extend the desktop instead of duplicate this issue goes away but since I need the duplication to stream this is a problem for me. Any help here is greatly appreciated.

I have a sandisk plus 240gb SSD and a WD Blue 1TB HDD. I want to clone everything (that fits) including my OS into the new SSD. I have been using the HDD for a few years, so it has some games and files. I know how to clone using Macrium, but I dont know what to do nect with my HDD. Will I need to format it before I set it as secondary, and how do I set the Hard Drive as secondary so that new content such as installing games, videos and papers will be placed into the HDD as default? I've finally got my system up and running after numerous problems, and in the process remembered my old hard-drive from an older system has windows 10, saving me having to buy an new license. I'm pretty much ready to clone windows from the Hard-Drive to my new SSD (M.2 NVME Sabrent Rocket), but i've not done this before so I wanted to check some stuff here first. I've used the new ssd breifly before i remembered I had the old hard-drive, so its got an inactivated version of windows on it and a couple of applications. It still has the space even with that to handle all the data from the old drive, and I don't care if all the data on there is overridden, but will having data (windows or just any data at all) on the SSD interfere with the cloning, or will it be fine. Also, if I do need to wipe the SSD first, how should I go about that?

So if I were to clone my windows from my hard drive to an SSD using EaseUs partition tool, will the cloning be 100% successful?, I went to a store just now to ask about it, they charge quite a hefty price just for "reinstalling" or "transferring" my os into a new SSD, can't I do that myself? So I asked them if they could clone and they said it only works for 70% of the items inside. Are they just trying to scam me? help anyone? I use Windows 10 1909 picture below is my recent updates

I have 3 monitors running off of a Radeon RX 580 on Windows 10. 2560x1440 (native) at 60Hz (Display Port) 1920x1080 (native) at 60Hz (HDMI converted to DVI) 1920x1080 (4k Native) at 60Hz (Television via HDMI) I bought the TV new at black friday, (cheap and chinese, so the scaler and supported frame rates is probably pretty limited). Normally I mirror what's on my second 1080p monitor and the TV. However, even though they all run simultaneously at 60Hz, when I clone monitor 2 & 3, the TV switches to 59Hz, which the TV itself is incapable of displaying (or at least it refuses too). The 2nd monitor remains at 60Hz. This is really confusing, where I would normally change the refresh rate in device manager, you can't do while you have the display cloned, and I already have the correct refresh rate set before I start cloning. I tried Custom Resolution Utility but it doesn't look like you can set custom cloned resolutions (unless I'm missing something). Also the AMD Radeon settings, doesn't let you set custom resolutions on cloned displays. What do I do and why does it switch frame rates like that?

I want to clone my 1TB Samsung 860 evo to a 2TB Samsung QVO (BECAUSE GAMES ARE TOO DAMN BIG) but the Samsung migration software only works on the drive that has windows installed. Are there any softwares out there that can save me from meticulously reinstalling everything? Thanks in advance!

I have a Lenovo y50-70 with the 256 Ssd. I recently purchased a Samsung Evo 860 1TB Ssd. Could someone walk me through the step of cloning my current hard drive to an external and then cloning back to a newly installed SSD. I'd rather not buy a sata to usb if possible cause I'll never use it again.

After installing a 256GB micron m.2 SSD my computer actually seems slower.I originally performed a clone using minitool and it went fine but minitool created an esp partition (this did show in the api window prior to clone that showed in My computer and ) which wasn't there before. So I decided to reset this PC to hopefully solve the issue. No luck, something about no recovery environment (so minitool copied the disk but didn't clone it). So now I decided to download dev tools and clean install of windows without any acer apps or other clutter. It works, but there are issues bugging me:• Seems slower• Screen Tear and early after and during updates the screen kept blanking out (stopped now)• Downloads are very slow• Games seemed to look to have more jagged edges, even when I switched to high detail• ACC won't complete m.2 drive check past 60%• Feels offSo my question is, how do I go about properly cloning the m.2 drive. I still have the original so all I need to do is replace it, then properly clone to this drive and if I feel the need, reset this PC (which should work if properly cloned).Any advice or suggestion are welcome, not sure what to do now.

So I'm helping my friend who just got an ssd for his PC that he's been using for a while now. He had a 1tb HDD and it's pretty much full and he only got a 250gb ssd so cloning the whole drive isn't really an option. I was wondering if it would be possible (or even if anyone had done this) to create a virtual drive (or a partition), transfer everything but the windows os over to that and then clone the now just windows drive onto the SSD? Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated :)

I recently upgraded my Dell Inspiron 5765 to a 480 gb SSD from a 1 terabyte segate hard drive. I cloned the garage drive using macrium reflect. After plugging everything in I noticed that the wifi speed was lower than before. With with hhd I was able to get speed of 150mbps on 5ghz and around 80mbps on 2.4ghz. now with the SSD I only get around 90mbps on 5ghz and the same 80 mbps on 2.4ghz. I have updated the drivers and reinstalled them. I also put the hhd back in to check and updated the software to the same version and the SSD is still slower. Im pretty sure it is a soft ware issue.

I'm going to buy a new SSD for old my laptop (which only has a HDD as of now). The internet I have is limited and slow so cannot download Windows 10 that easily for a clean install. I'm thinking of 2 options: 1) Clone the existing installation to the new SSD using Macrium Reflect Free. 2) Prepare a system image and use that on the new SSD Which would be wise and problem/glitch free way? After the SSD becomes bootable, I will format the HDD and use it as storage drive. ALSO, what about windows activation? Mine is a Windows 10 Pro edition with latest 2004 update.

Okay, so I'll be getting a new hard drive soon and I want to make it my boot drive, while keeping all of my data. I think I came up with a solution that doesn't involve getting an external storage device and I wanna know if it'll work. So, here it is: I make a Windows recovery disc with the Windows 10 utility, and I save my disk image to the old hard drive; the new one already being connected. Next I reboot my PC, and change boot priority to DVD in BIOS. Then, in the troubleshooting options I choose to recover from system image, and select my new hard drive as the target, wait for it to finish, then again change the boot priority to the new disk. Now the old disk is reformatted, and the new one has all the data and the OS. Will this solution work? Also, will my new HDD have all of its storage available(since it's larger than the old one)?

Ive recently bought an ssd (Transcend TS256GSSD230S) but ive run into several problems. My first idea was to clone my hdd onto my ssd so i could avoid doing a fresh installation, however all the programs i used kept telling me that i cant clone the drive because of the different sector sizes (512 is the hdd and the ssd was 4096) so i gave up on that and just decided to do a fresh install. However when i plugged in my usb with the windows 10 installation the installation wouldnt recognize my ssd ( i checked and the bios did recognize it and so did the windows 10 on my hdd) I tried multiple things that i found online but none of them worked and the installation never recognized the ssd, one of the things i did was downloaded drivers for sata 3 and that didnt work, i checked whether i was in raid mode and that was preventing my installation (it wasnt, i was in ahci mode) and so on. I apologize in advance if im just making some stupid mistake and wasting time but i cant figure out this myself. The mother board im using is Gigabytes b250m-d3h-cf My processor is an Intel i5 6600k, if its somehow relevant. Please ask for aditional info of my problem if needed, thanks in advance.

Hello guys, just made an account for this. Apologies if I have posted this in the wrong area. I got this ancient gaming PC + monitor + headset for an absolute steal on eBay. The seller even threw in a modest 60GB SSD for free. I used this to house my Operating System and used a 1TB HDD for games etc. Unsurprisingly, that SSD became a problem and so recently I set out to fix this annoyance. Initially, I used Macrium Reflect to try and clone the OS and the boot files etc onto a new 240GB SSD but it failed on boot. I then used EaseUS Todo Backup which did it perfectly. HOWEVER, it made a partition ~60GB in size, (on the 240GB SSD; ~60GB as in the same size as the old SSD) which kind of defeats the purpose of getting a new SSD in the first place (room for updates etc). I tried to use EaseUS Partition Master but it gave the error 'System partition or Boot partition only can be set as destination'. I would have used Windows' own Disk Management tool but apparently that includes having to completely delete my (F:) drive and then expand my (C:) drive. I wasn't sure if that would cause disaster. Bottom line is I want to merge Local Disk (SSD) (F:) and Local Disk (SSD - OS Partition) (C:). Thank you in advance.

Hello, So yesterday I thought it was time to update my 5 year old system with some fancy new ram and an ssd. The plan was to clone the hdd to my new ssd so it would boot and run everything better but today I received my new SSD and ram and it went a little bit different. So first of all I plugged in my new SSD and nothing happend. After a few hours I figured out that I needed to format the ssd and it finally showed up so I though everything was done and I could do the cloning but nope. So without the formating my pc doesnt recognizes the SSD so when I clone the SSD everything gets removed and then the program is like "Hey! where did that SSD go?" then it crashes. This was with the program Macrium Reflect so I dowloaded the Samsung data migration application as it's a Samsung SSD. That did find the SSD but for some reason completely shuts down my pc when it reaches 1408MB of the transfer. It's been hours and I feel like I tried everything, anyone have any suggestions for me? Alright so my current pc has 1TB Western Digital Blue Drive. I found a 3TB Red Western Digital Drive lying around in my house. i know that red is for NES servers but i read its basically just a blue drive with NES support and optimization so i've decided to use it as my new main drive. im looking to move everything like my OS and all my steam games to this new drive. i have both drives plugged into my pc throught SATA DATA and SATA power cables. i would like to know the best software for copying EVERYTHING from my main drive to this knew one without any change to my pc itself and no problems. tried to find this on youtube but too many different results. i know i can trust linus media group and their community so someone help me.

So I cloned my HDD a few weeks ago and on first impressions everything seemed to work as expected all my files were there and the programs I tested launching all worked fine. However two weeks later I tried to boot UE4, Unity and Atom editor and all three no longer worked it's not a major problem as I simply need to download them again. It would seem that these programs have some sort of protection built in to combat cloning, when I booted Unity it said some id was not correct so I'm assuming the other programs were the same. The actual files for the program were still present in my c drive it just somehow knew that it was a copy. I thought I'd share my experience so that others planning on doing a drive clone can be aware of this before going ahead. Thank god all my settings were saved for these programs especially Atom as I have seriously modified the program with packages and I have not written down any of there names, lesson learned though I'll add it to my txt file with important info. Anyone else had difficulties with a clone? It's seems strange to me that 3dsMax, Visual studio, word, substance painter etc all worked fine no issue. You would think that if the 3 programs I mentioned had protection then they would also.

Should I make a backup of my HDD before I clone it to my new SSD? Is the cloning process destructive ie does it alter the original drive in any way or does it just copy the data and dump it? I was just about to clone the drive when the software mentioned something about possibly altering the partition sizes to accommodate the new drive is this correct?

I have Win 7 Home 64-bit on 256GB SSD plus numerous program setup downloads so that I only have to install them when it is time for a new build. New build will have 500GB NVMe M.2 on MSI Z270-A Pro motherboard. I've got a i7-6700K CPU and need to install Win 10 Pro 64bit os. How can I put the os onto the NVMe and then clone all the downloaded programs from the old SSD onto some portion (or partition) of the NVMe SSD. Clearly I don't have a real good handle on partitions. Can I do it through disk managment or use Macrium Reflect which I've already used to clone the 256GB SSD in my original build to a new 500GB SSD in my original build because the room was almost all used up on the 256GB SSC. All SSD's are Samsung. Really appreciate any input on this confusing (for me) situation.

if I clone my hard drive will I be able to open my games (non steam) without running the setup again once I rename it to the letter they was originally installed on

Ok so I'm new to the forum but have been watching Linus videos for several years now. My boyfriend is the techy guy in our home. He has built all of our gaming computers as well as our server. When it comes to backing up our server I get so confused by the things he tells me. And he seems to be having a difficult time picking the best back-up solution that meets his needs. Our server is used for media ONLY. All of our movies, TV shows, music, etc. We run the server and then use it with Plex to access all of this media. But only use IS media. We have separate PC's/laptops for gaming and anything else. First of all we don't have an external backup, which I think is stupid because if the house Burns down, everything is gone. Everything is backed up internally. There are 9 hard drives totaling 47 terabytes. For every piece of media on the hard drive, there is an exact duplicate copy of it on a separate hard drive. Our media totals about 22 terabytes of space and there is 22 more terabytes of ALL of that media, backed up onto separate drives. So it's redundant storage within the same computer but on different drives. So every time we add something new, whether it be a new show, a new television episode, or new music we need an exact copy of whatever it was, backed up onto the appropriate drive. To me, the best solution is to build another server and back it up in a separate location. Because I don't think it should all be backed up internally. However, this is currently the way he has it setup. I've looked into so many solutions but can't quite find what works best. There are hard drive duplicators, which are external, there are programs like native windows programs, or RAID or the various others. We don't want something that will run constantly. But we do need a good solution to duplicate the media onto appropriate drives so they when he clicks on the drives, they match up byte for byte. So there are 9 drives total: 3 drives have all the media, 3 more have an EXACT copy of all that media (they are cloned.) There is then a 2TB drive which is for our cameras and doesn't need backed up. There is a 3TB drive that is a backup for various items around the house (gaming console hard drives.) The 9th drive, I believe is the boot drive. But the 6 drives with the media need to be matched up, every time we add something to the 3 that Plex regularly accesses Can someone PLEASE explain this to me, because I feel like there is a MUCH better solution which is faster, doesn't require removing the drives to duplicate them, and doesn't require sacrificing a butt load of time once a week or once a month to copy and make the changes. He keeps saying it's not that simple but to me, it seems like there SHOULD be a simple solution?

I'm currently looking for a free tool to migrate my old Intenso SSD to my new Intel SSD 760. So far I've tried EaseUS Todo Backup (h o r r i b l e name), HDClone 7 and Intel's own migration tool (which doesnt work with the SSD 760 series). The requirements are that the partition size can be different on the two drives and Windows 10 compatibility. Thanks for suggestions.
