  1. Hi. I some industrial machines that have there one PC with all the software that the machines needs to work. Some PC's have win xp others have win 98. So i cant upgrade to a newer version of windows because the software are not compatible with newer versions of windows and even if wase compatible the configuration processes are complicated. I allready have done one machine and its working fine but on the 2nd machine i have encouter a issue. Im using a Solftware called Disk2VHD and on the 1st machine i made the VHD file on the physical and worked fine now doing the same on the 2nd machine it dosent start "cloning" and gives me a error of "ERROR: INCORRECT FUNCION". So i took the HDD from the physical machine and using a HDD Dock i connected to my win 11 machine., and the "cloning" start but at the end it get stock and dosent give me any error just stops. I allready try to use StarWind V2V Converter but no success. on 26% it gives me a error "error read file" Any one have a solucion ou a alternative?
  2. Hello I have this 128gigs ssd as my windows drive but it remains mostly full. I've bought a new 500gigs ssd and want to replace it with my existing windows drive. Is there any software or method that I could use to clone my existing 128gig drive to the new drive so that all the software, data and maybe windows too, gets moved to the newer drive? I don't want to go on an installing marathon with all these software. ;-; Thanks in advance!
  3. So I have a 512gb SSD WD drive on an old laptop of mine and my boot drive is a 128gb Patriot SSD which are both boot drives on each respective system. I also have another desktop that uses an HDD boot drive. So my question is; How can I back up all of them (cloning or something) -provided that the 512 GB SSD is already out of the laptop and on my main desktop- and just make a switch(512 in my main rig, 128 on the second desktop) with the same operating systems on each pc ?? I mean clone the 128 on the 512 and then my HDD on the 128. Is it possible? How can I do it? Is it safe? How do I back up all of them in case of something happening?
  4. Hello all, So one of my coworkers dropped their Lenovo IdeaPad and the hinge broke. The machine still works, just does not have a screen. It's an Intel IdeaPad 3 with the Core i3 processor. It has a 2.5" SSD in it right now loaded with a specific program called HCL Notes. Setting up her new computer from scratch would require installing this program again, which has to be done by a 3rd party tech. To avoid this downtime I was thinking about cloning the old machines drive to the new machine, but I foresee some issues with that plan. The replacement computer is an AMD ThinkPad E16 Gen1. It has an M.2 SSD. I have not even booted this machine up yet. I've imaged the ThinkPads drive to have a fallback in case something goes wrong. As far as potential problems go, I can think of a few: Versions/Editions of Windows (IdeaPad is on Windows 10 Home, ThinkPad is on Windows 11 Home) Devices (New machine is Ryzen based with an entirely different supporting architecture) Windows Activation issues? So yeah, I'm just not very confident that cloning the old drive onto the new machine will result in something that works. What do you guys think? Should I just set the machine up from scratch and have the tech configure the program? Or should I try to see if cloning the drive works out?
  5. Hello my blyatiful boys so far for cloning i was using Macrium Reflect Free version but unfortunatley they discontinue supporting it, and so far for partitioning i used windows disk management and DISKPART in command console. I looking preferably for some windows application. I have in plan to test geparted but i need make multibootable usb drive with diffirent images for my needs and again copy 60gb of drivers for all hardware there and sorting this take me some time. I recently clone my windows from 120gb sdd to 512 gb ssd and i would like to merge the free space with system partition, unfortunatley windows could not do this without changing it to dynamic partition and dynamic partition cannot boot windows. Also if you have any idead what i could include in such multiboot pendrive it would be cool. I read before about Windows Preinstallation Environment and i never heard about this before and with this u can teoreticaly fix windows if could not boot? Is there maybe some antivirus scanner as bootable thing? i always use ADWCLEANER but it need run from windows itself.
  6. Setup: Display 1: AOC monitor (Freesync capable), 240Hz, connected via DP Display 2: Samsung TV 60Hz, connected via HDMI GPU: 6900XT OS: Windows 10&11 (swapped over to W11 after the incident, same problem) all drivers are up to date ! Issue: Exact same setup was running for 2-3 years, but after fiddling around in the settings (which I of course reverted) it doesn't anymore. On the desktop everything works fine, Display1 runs smoothly @240Hz while the TV runs @60Hz. Problem only occurs in games. Display 1 drops down to 60Hz which causes an unsmooth gaming experience and tearing from time to time. Was never an issue before. My personal assumption: Checked the AMD display settings. Display 1 has 1920x1080 with a !dynamic! refresh rate range from 40 to 240 Hz while the TV has only 1920x1080 at 60 Hz. So I assume the GPU caps display 1 to 60 Hz so both run at the same resolution and refresh rate. Custom resolution should not be possible because it says display cloning is not possible anymore after. So my question is if anyone may have a similar setup and could fetch me his settings. So far I have searched the internet for hours but couldn't find anyone with the same issue (at least not with an AMD card). Appreciate any kind of help
  7. Hello all, I recently bought a PSY CS900 1TB so I could have more storage on my PC. I plugged the PSY and assigned it to drive D. I installed Acronis and wanted a backup or so I thought. I left the cloning run for 2 hours and came back and now my PC won't even start. Is my PC dead and is there any way to retrieve my drive ? Please help with any input. Thanks !
  8. Hi I currently have a Samsung 950 PRO 256GB SSD that I used as a boot drive for over 8 years. I recently got the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB SSD to upgrade it. However in my system, I have a pair of Corsair Force LS 480GB SSDs I run in software RAID 0 within Windows. I would like to know, If my software RAID would get affected after the cloning process. Because both my M.2 slots are already in used, would using an M.2 SSD enclosure be an issue. I am doing to cloning on the boot system itself, are the any implications for that. Clonezilla seems like it's the best tool for the job but it looks very tedious and since im only going to do this once, can I get a recommendation for an alternative that is FREE and easy to use.
  9. hey, Situation: I have Windows 10 and want to upgrade to Windows 11. All data is currently stored on an old Samsung 2.5 inch SSD. I bought a new Samsung 980 Pro SSD which I would like to have Windows on. How would you guys go about it? My thoughts: - plug in new M.2 and do a fresh install on it -> maybe requires new product key? - cloning before upgrading? - cloning after upgrading?
  10. I am cloning my boot HDD to a new SSD, from what I can see you have to pay to clone partitions and can only clone disk for free. Can I clone the disk and then install Windows on the SSD from a USB and then put in my product key? And then format the HDD as a back up drive. Would this cause any issues etc? Thanks
  11. So I built my PC and made the mistake of assuming a HDD would be good enough and soon found out it wasn't. I've just installed a SSD and cloned my boot HDD (C) drive and tried to follow instructions on making the SSD as the boot drive but in my bios it says that my m.2 ssd is the windows boot manager(it couldn't be, it's too slow...) I tried to boot from the new SSD but it brought up the screen as shown below. My C drive is the HDD, doesn't that mean it's the boot drive and after cloning etc shouldn't I be able to boot from the SSD? Any help would be appreciated. If you could give simple step by step guides on how to fix it, that would be a bonus.. (I'm autistic and need things simple.. thanks.
  12. Good Morning all, So, I've got a PC at work Windows 11 pro, Ryzen system. Work have bought me a laptop and I am wondering whether it would cause an issue cloning my PC ssd to the laptop ssd so that my work PC can be repurposed. The laptop I would be cloning to is an Asus Vivobook S15 i5-12500H running Windows 11 Home. Am I likely to run into any issues? Apart from the fact one is 11 pro and the other 11 home. Is there a way to copy my user and files instead of the whole ssd?
  13. I just wanna add a new ssd to my old computer so my pc had a ide hdd before now i am adding a 2.5 inch ssd along with old hdd So i just want my os and all aplications on ssd and all photos and videos on ssd. Can i just clone c drive to new ssd (which has os and all software files ) and after cloning just delete old c drive from hdd Can i do it pls let me know and also help me how to do it
  14. Hey there community, I need help with a problem that I got myself into and I can't figure it out. I cloned my OS with all partitions on that 250GB drive (C:) to a new 500GB M.2 Drive (D:). After the cloning I restarted the PC and went into the bios to change the drive to boot from. After booting from D: the screen stayed black but when I moved my mouse it showed me my mouse pointer but nothing else. Ctrl+alt+delete didn't work either. Then I tried to disconnect the old SSD (C:) and boot from D: again. Nothing changed. But I was able to boot into the Safe mode. In there it showed me the error "sihost.exe unknown hard error" and my screen was all black and flickering. I was able to open cmd and use SFC, some Dism checks and Chkdsk. But it didn't help at all. So now I reconnected the old SSD C: and disconnected the new SSD D:, after doing that I tried to boot into windows but the same black screen with mouse pointer showed up as before and now I can't even boot into windows with safe mode on C:... I have no clue what to do now. Why would a cloning process do anything with my old SSD or am I missing something obvious. Thanks in advance, razornung
  15. Please read for full context but TL:DR: Cut-Pasted files from one drive to another. Target drive now missing most folders and is repoting to have way more free space than it should have, pretty much meaning that those folder are genuinely deleted. Target drive is now called what the source drive was called. This was a standard Cut-Paste operation through Tera Copy, not a clone. Source drive seems more or less fine but it reports 790GB of used space when checking via Properties yet selecting all folders and copying them to another drive results in only 468GB of data. There also is a massive folder missing. No guaranteee that I didn't remove that manually, though. --- I have a drive on which I store all my Downloads, Pictures, Documents, Videos and Music. By that I mean that I use those folder as my default Windows directories for such files. There also is a Other Files, Programs and Games folder on it. Other Files simply contains stuff like .iso, .dmg, .exe and, well, other files. I try to install all of my programs into the Programs folder and the Games folder is home to some standalone DRM-free games and also the install location of my Steam instance (my actual Steam libraries are on different drives). All of those folders are at the root of the drive. --- Now, I recently ran out of space on the 1TB 970 Evo and got me a 2TB 970 Evo Plus. Just like I did when I upgraded to the 1TB 970 Evo from my old 500GB 960 Evo, I just copy pasted and veryfied all folders via TeraCopy. This pretty much worked as per usual but it also resulted in a different folder and file count on the target drive. While this is pretty normal for simple Copy-Paste of large amounts of files, I hung onto the original files on the 1TB 970 Evo and didn't format it right away, just in case that I wanted to manually check everything. --- Now I've been using the new 2TB drive since around November 24th as my main drive without issues. I gave it the old drive letter Y and the 1TB 970 Evo the letter A to have it be in front of my boot drive so that there is no chance of confusing the two. As for drive names, I just call the 970 Evo and 970 Evo Plus. So they were 970 Evo (A:) and 970 Evo Plus (Y:). All current letters in my system: (A:) (C:) (D:) (E:) (V:) (Q:) (Z:) --- Now to the actual issue: Today, I decided to finally do something about the "unnecessary" and now somewhat outdated copy of my drive (1TB 970 Evo (A:)). That 'something' was to just select all folders and CUT-Paste it onto the 2TB 970 Evo Plus, the drive that was currently in use. Doing something like that has never really caused me any issues up until now, to be fair. But yeah, considering that I also have almost all of my programs installed to that drive, this certainly could have caused issues for them. What actually happened is far worse, though... I once again used TeraCopy and let it run for a bit. The "Skip All" option was selected. --- I only let it run until around 0.3% were completed and then stopped it because WHY THE FUCK WOULD I NOT WANT A BACKUP, RIGHT? It had transfered around 56000 files if I remember correctly but I assume that those are just tiny, not too relevant program related files. As I didn't let it run for particularly long, maybe 1-3 minutes, there was no way that it moved or deleted a lot of stuff. Anyway, afterwards I just turned off my system and took out my old 1TB 970 Evo and replaced it with another 2TB 970 Evo Plus I had bought at the same time as the first one. Upon boot, I noticed that the system still showed the old 970 Evo with the (A:) drive letter. And what this resulted in is just inexplicable to me. The drive, ONTO which the folders were supposed to be pasted, was missing folders! Like the Programs folder, it was completely gone! I only noticed that when trying to open a program. I restarted the system and let the disk check (the one that comes up while booting) run. Now, suddenly, even more folders are gone and the Programs folder reappered and appears to be perfectly functional. All programs that I have tested run fine. But I now have 1.55TB of 1.81TB free, which is not how it should be. This is 265GB used. I do not remember how much used and free space was reported right after the Cut-Paste operation. And another thing, the 2TB 970 Evo Plus is now called 970 Evo! It was called 970 Evo Plus, guaranteed! As for the 1TB 970, it seems fine and fucked at the same time. It reports 790GB free via Properties which could very well be a correct value as I had relocated a big folder when I ran out of space. It was 113GB large. However, when selecting all folders and checking their size via Properties, it only reports 468GB of data. Copy-pasting them with Tera-Copy only detects 470GB. Oh, and the entire Games Folder is missing. The one that my Steam install resides in. Not sure if I took that thing off of htis drive manually, though. I might have and remember something along those lines regarding that folder but I just cannot understand why I would have done that. That was a pretty massive folder, too. --- Moral of the story that I even had been taught before; Always make backups... My last one was around a year ago, and due to not much having changed in my Games folder I can find out its approximate size. Maybe it makes up all of the missing data, I don't know. I just hope that nothing is corrupted. But still, can anyone please help me in finding out what happened or on how to fix it? I would greatly appreciate it!
  16. Long story short I'm trying to use Macrium Reflect to clone the SSD my Windows install is on to a new M.2 drive. The first 3 partitions clone fine, but the Windows partition fails due to "MFT corrupt - Error code = 6" chkdsk appears unable to resolve the issue. I've tried putting the system into recovery mode and running bootrec /fixmbr from CMD but this comes back with the error "the system cannot find the file specified" what can I try now?
  17. Just had a few Questions about my new M.2 Nvme SSD and cloning only a specific amount from the hdd to the SSD, I want my system to boot faster with the SSD and keep most of the suff on the HDD, is it possible to clone only the system and make the SSD boot the system but not have every file on it? because my HDD is 2TB with 1.9 GB on it and only has about 130 GB left and my new SSD only has 1tb and cant fit all of it on it, I only want my system and a handful of games on the SSD and keep the rest on the HDD for mass storage, is this possible or am I living in a unattainable dream? Also is it possible to access the HDD files when I have booted up on the SSD? please contact me thank you
  18. I need to copy roughly 1tb worth of data over to a new hard drive. It's just movies, tv shows, pictures etc. No OS or any programs on it. Is it best to just do the old copy and paste via Windows or cloning the hdd?
  19. hi, I have an 128GB SSD that I use both as a bootdrive and have some other programs installed on it that I wish to keep there, and keep the pathways... however I just bought a 980 PRO to replace it, but as I said, I would like to keep all my files/programms I have tried watching a few videos and forum posts but none could properly explain to me how to do it without external devices like USB or some cable to have the new SSD installed like an external drive before swapping it... simply put I would like to use my internal HDD (3TB free space, and i could make partitions etc with ease) to save an image of my old NVMe drive and then put it on the new drive from there... I just can't figure out how I am supposed to do this (seriously, people just say 'oh save the image, then swap, then mount the image on new drive' and I'm just like... where is the rest of the owl? if someone could help me with a guide or lead me to a proper guide, that would REALLY be appreciated especially the re-installing process is a mystery to me, though making the image itself is not something I have done prior to this either... ps. I originally had a stupid idea of maybe just ctrl+C ctrl+v to my second drive, boot from there, and then copy it to the new drive, but I am afraid I would lose files in the process due to permissions... so i thought, maybe i can do it with an USB ubuntu drive using, say, rufus, but I am not sure if that is a safe idea and it sounds like a lot of work.
  20. Hey Guys, Here is a interesting one and I am having problems even finding anything online about it. If you boot a windows 10 setup with a 11th gen, you will notice it doesn't support the drivers straight out of the box, so you need to inject the drivers in to windows. The problem I am coming across is Cloning a older laptop for a person and then dropping that clone on to the new laptop and it wont boot or see the drive because it doesn't have the drivers in that copy of windows that its being cloned from. and sometimes its harder if the computer can't be booted or turned on. (the older one) Any ideas or ways around it? Software being used to clone is Macrium Reflect.
  21. I got an SSD recently for my computer. After cloning everything over to it I was told to shut down my computer and remove the HDD that I was previously using . I did so and everything seemed to work fine, all of my stuff transferred and the SSD was now recognized as disk C:. I then went to reinstall my HDD for extra space. Upon starting up my computer I opened task manager to make sure that my SSD was still disk C: it was but then I noticed that the HDD was now recognized as disk D: and E:. I opened up my file explorer and saw that there was a local disk C:, local disk E:, and a System Reserved D:. I then opened up disk management and saw that my HDD was being recognized as disk E: and that there were two system reserved volumes. One was labeled as D: and the other had no label like it did before installing my new SSD. Is it okay to delete the system reserved D: volume and is it alright to format my old HDD to clear it duplicate files. here is a link to an image of my disk management if needed : https://imgur.com/a/zu8UW9L Disk 0 is the HDD and Disk 1 is the new SDD
  22. I have been upgrading some specialized systems (upgrading the mobo & OS is not an option) from older drives such as pata/ide/DOM to m.2/sata/DOM (with adapters). Often the challenge is getting sufficient power to the original drive (outside of its original equipment) to be able to clone it. Most any connector can be adapted to sata. The only meter that i can find which inline meters the amperage draw of a sata power port is the passmark inline power supply tester for $350. I can pick up a nifty little inline usb meter for $10. Now i realize that the usb meter is only a single pass of 5v, and that a sata meter (or multiple meters on a single cable) would have to meter 12v, 5v, and 3.3v. I have plugged old drives into adapters thinking that I had killed them (spin up yet unresponsive), or had instability during a cloning, or even had instability of the new drive/adapter in the "now upgraded" system post-clone. I am looking to measure amperage, not just voltage, so it will have to be an inline device which is separately powered. I would prefer to meter the draws of equipment rather than blindly throw a secondary power supply inline and just hope for the best, or perhaps I am being overly cautious. Here is an example: pata drive > 44pin to sata adapter > sata extension > inateck fd2002 > sata extension > 44pin to sata adapter > 44pin gender changer > DOM. offline clones have a higher success rate of the new drive booting, and don't get me started on embedded OS.. removing the lock state, cloning, adjusting partitions, reinitiating the lock state. Any direction on meters, or similar success stories would be appreciated.
  23. I'm going to buy a new SSD for old my laptop (which only has a HDD as of now). The internet I have is limited and slow so cannot download Windows 10 that easily for a clean install. I'm thinking of 2 options: 1) Clone the existing installation to the new SSD using Macrium Reflect Free. 2) Prepare a system image and use that on the new SSD Which would be wise and problem/glitch free way? After the SSD becomes bootable, I will format the HDD and use it as storage drive. ALSO, what about windows activation? Mine is a Windows 10 Pro edition with latest 2004 update.
  24. I have a ADATA XPG 8200 pro 1 terabyte coming in the mail Saturday and I was wondering about cloning. I’ve never swapped hard drives before so I’m very new to this. It seems reinstalling would be a lot more involved and time consuming and I also share the pc with my wife so I don’t want to mess around or screw up her lay out. When I clone my HDD to my new M.2 SSD is it a copy or more of a direct transfer? Or do both of the hard drives now contain the same information? Ideally I’d like both of them to contain the information 1.) because it would be good to have the data backed up and 2.) just in case something goes wrong with the cloning software. I’m very uninformed in all of this. So please the more information someone can share to make this transition to my new SSD would be absolutely appreciated. Thank you
  25. So if I were to clone my windows from my hard drive to an SSD using EaseUs partition tool, will the cloning be 100% successful?, I went to a store just now to ask about it, they charge quite a hefty price just for "reinstalling" or "transferring" my os into a new SSD, can't I do that myself? So I asked them if they could clone and they said it only works for 70% of the items inside. Are they just trying to scam me? help anyone? I use Windows 10 1909 picture below is my recent updates
