At CES 2016, Cooler Master debuted their new "MasterWatt" series, leading headfirst with 1200W and 1500W units. A simple look at the interior already portrays super solid build quality. The two units shown here are fully modular, feature digital control like many of it's competitors offerings from the likes of Corsair and EVGA, and feature super silent Cooler Master Silencio FP fans. The unit demonstrates Titanium efficiency to keep wasted power down and will be pair-able with Android, iOS, and Windows Mobile devices through Cooler Master's "Cooler Master Connect" application. A desktop option will also be available. These units are manufactured by the well-regarded Enhance Electronics and, if the price is right, should compete well against the likes of Corsair's AXi and EVGA's P2 and T2 series. It's unknown at this time if lesser capacity units will be released. Currently the set release date for these is quarter 1 of this year. Did I mention they look super sexy? Source

This helpful article that I read on Tom's Hardware. Not a long ago, AsRock released BIOS update for their Z170 lineups to Overclock a non K SKUs of Intel Processors. For eg, You can overclock a 6100, 6500, 6700 on a Z170. Then some beta updates were released by Asus, MSI and Gigabyte motherboards for their Z170 lineups as well to OC non K SKUs of Intel CPUs. People should be really aware of selecting a non Z170 chipset, like a H170 and use it for OCing. Currently only Super Micro has this ability to OC non K CPUs without losing HT and C-State. AsRock also announced 4 non Z170 motherboards, 2xH170, B150 and 1 C 232 chipset motherboard with overclocking features. Although these would lose HT and C-State. tl;DR You would lose Hyper Threading and C-State if you choose a non Z170 chipset to overclock. But not on Super Micro boards. Update: Asrock's Non-Z170 Boards Don't Disable Hyper-Threading Source: Tom's Hardware Source: Tom's Hardware.

So what is your favorite at CES 2016 by now? What are you excited for? I personally found the Razer gaming-ultrabook kinda thing pretty cool.

Hi, I'm new to PC building and intent to build one soon, which was what my last post was about. Since Nvidia is reported to be massively improving their cards with Pascal (and of course other companies will be improving), I was wondering if I should wait until after CES to buy my parts. Even if I don't buy new components when they come out, I could wait until after CES to see if prices on current components drop. Will they drop? I'm new to this so I'm not sure, but have 3 options: 1. Should I buy stuff now? the main advantage is that I get stuff now and don't have to worry about anything going out of stock (everything I have lined-up is in stock) 2. Wait until after CES. Will prices drop? If so, by how much? Is it worth waiting until after CES (the main advantage is saving money) 3. Should I just wait a long time until new components come out? (The main advantage of this is simple: awesome new stuff, especially Pascal, but it may cost a ton and I have a limit on how much I can spend). I posted a thread yesterday and got a ton of great responses, thank you guys so much! This community is great, so I trust your input. What do you think I should do?

Seriously did I miss something? The WAN Show before CES they asked what people wanted to see and it was monitors and VR. Sure there was a bit of monitor content, but there was only ONE VR video and it wasn't even from a VR headset. It seems like the videos from CES are all up, but they missed a ton of stuff that i would have liked to see.

I recently found out I will be attending CES for the first time in 2016 (with a press badge no less!) and was curious to hear some tips or general advice from those who have attended in the past. Such as, what are the best ways to access the hottest tech? Is there anything I should schedule in advance? Anything to avoid? Perhaps some lesser known perks of the badge? I just know when I went to E3 I couldn't get access to a lot of stuff because they had appointments booked out weeks in advance, so I want to be prepared this time.

It was CES 2015, and Luke and Linus had just finished a tedious day of exploring the booths. Linus pulls out his phone, when Luke proceeds to start stroking it gently, Linus gazes him right in Luke's warm welcoming eyes, with a look of confusion. "Why is he rubbing my phone so sensually?" Linus wondered to himself. Luke proceeds to lean in closer to Linus."Hey Linus why does your phone feel so smooth?" he asks. Linus stares at him, wondering how Luke could not know this majestic item, the item that every human being needs for a smooth, sexy, phone using experience. Linus leans towards Luke's ear slowly, brushing Luke's hair gently behind his ear so he can hear Linus's wise words loud and clear. "Well you see Luke, this is phantom glass, the best darn protectors out there." Linus whispered. Luke proceeded to sweep up Linus into his arms with joy, as they went to the Phantom Glass booth at CES together, and bought 30 screen protectors for Linus and Luke to use in the bedroom later. Fin

I'm pretty sure, like myself, everyone here is sick and tired of hearing about 4K tv's after watching CES. I know it'll be another year or so before they start to come down in price. However with all the talk of "brighter displays," "nano-crystal tech," and "SUHD," I can't help but think this may be the pancea of display alternatives. What are your thoughts? Although I'm not a tech genius, I would appreciate, if you do share, that you please back up your opinion with some facts. Thanks!

LG has just announced the LG G Flex2. Specs: 1920x1080, 5.5" Curved P-OLED screen (403 PPI). Snapdragon 810 (yes that is correct, the quad A57 + quad A53 SoC). Seems like the big cores will be clocked at 2Ghz and the LITTLE ones at 1.5Ghz (although it's probably slightly lower, like 1.96GHz or something like that knowing Qualcomm) 16GB storage (2GB RAM) or 32GB storage (3GB RAM). microSD card slot 13MP rear camera with OIS+, dual LED flash and their laser autofocus we first saw on the G3. The sensor is apparently the same as the G3 so we can expect this to take pretty much the same quality photos. LG claims it will take better photos though but I am skeptical (better post processing maybe?) 2.1MP front facing camera that can recognize gestures from up to 1.5 meters away. Say goodbye to your selfie-sticks. Non-removable 3000mAh battery. All the usual stuff like 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC, IR port etc. Launches with Android 5.0.1 Will be available for purchase in Korea by the end of the month. The rest of the world will have to wait. Some more interesting things: Improved self-healing back. Instead of taking minutes to heal it now takes seconds. It will recharge from 0 to 50% in just 38 minutes. The Snapdragon 810 has 4 small, power efficient cores and 4 big, high performance cores that will work in tandem to to give you better power efficiency and also higher performance than the current generation of mobile CPUs. On top of that, it's built on 20nm transistors instead of 28nm which should increase battery life even more. The new Adreno 430 GPU is supposedly a lot more powerful than the current 420 GPU (used in Snapdragon 805). Qualcomm claims it is 30% faster than the 420 for graphics, and 100% faster for GPGPU tasks. Dedicated HEVC (aka H.265) encoding and decoding hardware. Not sure if this will be taken advantage of by the Flex2 but I really hope so (it's just software that's needed to support it). If it is, then the videos you record will be half the size compared to what you record today, for the same quality. New model for even faster LTE speeds and hopefully more power efficient as well. New notifications similar to what is found on the Nexus 6 and Motorola Turbo. Swipe on the screen and you will see your notification without waking the phone up fully. Available in 2 colors. Platinum Silver and Flamenco Red. More pictures (from GSMArena)

As part of CES, Intel announced their Broadwell CPUs. Intel is formally releasing their next element of the 14 nanometer story: Broadwell-U. As the iterative naming over Haswell-U suggests, Broadwell-U will focus on dual-core 15W and 28W units from Celeron to Core i7 using 12 to 48 execution units for the integrated graphics. A Broadwell-U processor should drop into any existing Haswell-U equivalent design (i3 to i3) due to pin and architecture compatibility, albeit with a firmware update. There will be several combinations possible throughout the Broadwell line, but the most important distinctions are: 28W with GT3, Iris 6100 Graphics (48 Execution Units) 15W with GT3, HD 6000 Graphics (48 Execution Units) 15W with GT2, HD 5500 Graphics (23 Execution Units for low i3, 24 for others) 15W with GT1, HD (Broadwell) Graphics (12 Execution Units) Here is the list of Broadwell SKUs Broadwell-U will be derived from two main dies. The larger design contains the full 48 EU (two common slices with 6x8 EU sub-slices all in) configuration for 1.9 billion transistors in 133 mm2, while the 24 EU design (one common slice, 3x8 sub-slices) will measure 1.3 billion transistors in 82 mm2. Broadwell Improvements Watch. Game. Create with Intel Graphics. The 5th Generation Intel Core processor family brings the next evolution in processor graphics architecture enabling new levels of performance and power efficiency paired with Intel's leading CPU technology. The new 5th Generation Intel Core processorfamily offers graphics options including Intel® HD Graphics 5500, HD Graphics 6000 and Intel® IrisTM Graphics 6100. All of these provide stunning visuals and enable 4K Ultra HD display, including over Intel WiDi 5.14. Additional platform features include enhanced new codec decode support for VP8, VP9 and HEVC, as well as support for the latest graphics APIs (DX 11.2, DX 12 Ready) and graphics programmability features, including OpenCL 2.0 and OpenGL 4.3. Intel Iris Graphics includes these features plus significantly better 3D performance compared to Intel HD Graphics 5500 processors. What to Choose? Performance Charts: Battery Life: Voice Assistant A Feature comparison between a laptop in 2010 and laptop with Broadwell What to expect in 2015? By the end of January, we should see more powerful devices with Broadwell inside, and in mid-2015, we will see the higher TDP 5th gen Core processors. Release Dates: hroughout CES there will be a number of manufacturers announcing their products, and as per the norm Intel allows the partners to introduce their own products, rather than showing examples of where Broadwell-U fits in. However, because Broadwell-U is designed to be pin-compatible with Haswell-U, we might see some manufacturers purely re-releasing some of their designs with the newer CPU and a firmware update. Nevertheless, Intel is expecting OEM systems with Broadwell-U to start shipping in North America within the month. Designs with Iris graphics, or those featuring Intel based WiGig connectivity, will be more towards the end of Q1. Overall Intel is tracking ‘hundreds of designs’ involving Broadwell, indicating that it will be a significant push to bring 14nm to the market. Although these are all officially only for notebooks! No word on Desktop processors! Source: AnandTech

Zenfone 2 Asus has just announced the Zenfone 2. Will update with more info as it comes out. Specs: 5.5" IPS screen. 1080p. 400 PPI Intel Atom processor. Z3580 to be precise. 2.3GHz and 64bit. It's a quad core Silvermont CPU. 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture. 5MP front facing camera 2 or 4GB of RAM depending on model. Yes, 4GB of RAM in a phone. 3000mAh battery and it changes from 0 to 60% in just 39 minutes. LTE cat 4 (which isn't that impressive but should be good enough) Dual SIM cards Android 5.0 Some more interesting things: Brushed metal body for those of you who like that. The back reminds me of LG phones. The volume controls are on the back and it also has that curve to it. The camera features "pixel merging" for low light photos. Asus claims this gives the camera 400% better light sensitivity. My guess is that this works by combinding pixels to decrease the overall MP count of the photo, but increase low light quality. It also has "zero shutter lag". "Zero" is apparently 60ms response time. That's very low. Brand new Android skin from Asus. Might be cool but the things they showed are not that impressive. Zenfone 2 will be available in march for 199 USD. Not sure if that's unlocked or on a 2 year contract. Probably the latter. Zenfone Zoom Pretty much the same as the Zenfone 2 but with a much bigger camera bump and some better camera features. Still 13MP rear and 5MP front camera. 3x optical zoom OSI Laser auto focus. Macro shots and it can focus at something just 5cm away. Manual camera controls like ISO, shutter speed, focal point, exposure value and many more. Zenfone Zoom will be available in Q2 for 399 USD. Not sure if that's unlocked or on a 2 year contract. Probably the latter. Sources: Anadtech and TheVerge.
