So the title pretty much says it all to be honest With this being the first time I can kinda splurge on a new tv, I'm wondering, Is it best to wait for CES announcements or get a new tv now while the "deals" are on? New / upgraded set for standard prices or grab a last gen tv at a slightly better price? Also can I get a 2023 set recommendation for a mid-end that has nice blacks but also vibrant colours? I'm stuck what to do but I'm 100% set on wanting an OLED some time soon. No idea if new OLED tech is coming out as this could completely change my decision (IE new tech = cheaper older sets)

Summary Samsung announced at CES 2021 that they would be allowing old Samsung devices to be reused as a variety of different IoT devices through SmartThings integration. Examples include: Baby monitor Ambient light trigger for lights (aimed at pets) XDA reports that Samsung has not shared specific details about timelines and what devices are included. My thoughts I can really get behind this initiative to reduce e-waste, really glad to see a huge manufacturer both recognise and act on this. This feeling is somewhat tempered by the lack of detail at the moment, from the video it looks tied to SmartThings, if this means the app is required the Play Store requirements state the following: I'm also hoping this isn't locked down too much and that it allows for community contribution. I use several old phones as clocks around my flat, they're perfect as they dim and brighten based on ambient light. Summary After the absolutely massive 25 kg beast that was the Thermaltake Tower 900, in June last year the company announced its little brother: the Tower 100 mini-ITX case. At CES 2021 they have now revealed it. No pricing has been announced yet, but a release date of "end of January" for the US and Canada are mentioned. It will be available in black and white and takes up 463x266x266 mm on your desk. It focusses on a ''vertical design'', as they say, to reduce its footprint and help heat extraction through a chimney effect. Quotes My thoughts Personally I really liked the Tower 900, but after considering it for a bit it was just too large and heavy for me. This shrunk down version of it makes it a much more considerable option for people I think, although in some aspects such as available fan space it might be a tad too small or offer too little for its size. I love the big open view the three glass panels give, and it's the first time I have seen a vertical GPU mount this way. They claim its verticality will have a chimney effect in removing heat from the chassis and I'm inclined to believe it may actually hold some ground. It's refreshing to see a case where the tempered glass does not obstruct the exhaust like e.g. in my Corsair 570X. On that same note however I'm a little worried/confused where it will get its supply of fresh air from and I don't see this as a particularly attractive option for watercooling (something I really hoped for when I saw it). Hello Linus tech tips forums! :-) I need help with something! It is about the new Asus PG258Q monitor! Linus said, in his CES video: in the Asus booth and in front of the PG258q, that Asus said the ULMB went all the way up to 240 Hz IF you turned G-sync off? But in Linus new video about the PG258Q: it sounds like it does not go up to 240 Hz?! What is it? Can you get ULMB at 240 Hz in any way on the PG258Q? Hope someone here can help! :-) Thanks!

The paper thin LG W7 Series TV used a concept I've been thinking about for a while: external display sans mobo (or nearly) connected to a beefier cpu kept somewhere easier. Basically a backpack pc with a tethered handheld touchscreen. But crazy ideas aside, What are the cable specs for the tether between the display and the soundbar/PC? Better or worse than thunderbolt 3 in terms of speed and bandwidth?

Best 27"+ monitor under $900? - ASUS PG279Q? Greater then 60Hz The PG279Q monitor is 27" (would consider a larger monitor, but not smaller) and 144Hz (no interest in 60Hz, I already have 3, 60Hz monitors). Lastly, I would want the monitor compatible with g-sync (so when I swap out to a gtx, it can be used). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017EVR2VM What do you think? The above monitor was closer to $700 for Christmas, so I know the price can go down some. I know Asus released information at CES about their new monitors, but do not know how that is going to play into the near term price cuts.

There's a post in Cases and Power Supplies but I figured I'd do one with TNR formatting. Sources: EVGA and Seasonic have announced new PSUs that are targeted at the budget to mid-range market, finally after years upon years of reign of the now venerable S12II and M12II old Seasonic models. This is all sorts of great, Super Flower is one of the best OEMs out there for PSUs. Of course I won't start giving them to people until reviews pop up. Besides them being fully modular, one amazing thing is their expected price: As for Seasonic, no photos, but a statement from their Press Releases. They don't speak of much details, but the press release suggests that they are trying to enter the market in force as their own brand, with Mainstream models in the Focus series and Entry-level ones in the Core series. Seasonic has yet to disappoint even in the entry-level market if you don't count the XT series from XFX, so I'm confident that these will be competitive. As a LTT user who has spent thousands of words convincing people to dish out the $15 more to get the good entry level PSU instead of the unreliable cost-down unit, I have a dream that one day we'll be able to give people reliable and good PSUs for very little money, so this announcement made me very happy. We hear a lot of talk of $200 units with 0% change in voltage and Unobtanium efficiency, but the people who've $200 aren't the people who need the better PSUs, it's the people who have $350 for their whole computer.

Edit: I was a bit late, OP: According to The Verge, Razer's two crazy three-screen laptops from CES were stolen right out of their booth. You know, these guys: (image courtesy of WCCFTech) A statement from Razer from the article: My first thought when I saw this was "Okay, @LinusTech, what did you do?", but seriously, what do you guys think about this? Apparently, the theft occurred after show hours, and there is a $25,000 reward for those who give Razer (legal@razerzone.com) information that "leads to a conviction". Crazy times at CES.

So...two of Razer's prototypes were stolen from CES according to the Razer CEO. May or not be something we saw in a LTT video. Directly quoting from the article linked below: ------------- All the news from Las Vegas' CES 2017 has been revealed and discussed now, but the show continues to shock—and not in a good way. Razer's CEO Min-Liang Tan disclosed in a Facebook post that two of the company's prototypes were stolen from its CES booth. While Tan did not say which prototypes were taken, Razer built its CES presence around its Project Valerie triple-display laptop prototype and its Project Ariana Chrome-lighting smart projector prototype. According to Tan's post, Razer has already filed the necessary paperwork to report the stolen property, and the company is working with CES officials and law enforcement to address this crime. While Tan didn't say if they already had any leads, he did address the possibility of this theft being industry-related. "We treat theft/larceny, and if relevant to this case, industrial espionage, very seriously," Tan wrote. "It is cheating, and cheating doesn’t sit well with us. Penalties for such crimes are grievous and anyone who would do this clearly isn’t very smart." Razer has been the victim of theft before. In 2011, two laptop prototypes were stolen from a Razer office in San Francisco—those ended up being early prototypes of the Razer Blade. Project Valerie is a larger-than-life laptop with three built-in displays, two of which fan out from the central panel. Project Ariana is a 4K projector that, when pointed at a TV or gaming monitor, can sense the edges of that display and use room's light to extend the game's field of view onto the walls. I just wanted to say Thumps for the CES coverage this year. You guys really had your stuff together this year and the videos were way more like a regular LTT video. The shots of the products were all beautiful and sound quality was amazing. Overall amazing job. I hope others agree on this with me.

Hey guys! I'm wondering why LTT has not come up any ces17 VR related content? I've heard there was some pretty cool tech on display like for example the wireless vive. Btw it's my 1st post here and hopely it's on the right sub. I did try to search for any similar threads without success. Has VR become taboo here or what's this silence all about?

Since they are speaking about 2 prototypes it's fair to assume that it is about project valerie and project ariana, which where to my knowledge the only protoypes showed off by razer this year, so it's either one of both that went missing or two of one project. I am a system builder, I make and sell systems as a past time, and when I saw the You Tube tech crowd all making videos on this giant Corsair super tower case. I wanted it, I use my computer as part of the decorations of my room. So after all, the videos of a couple YouTubers surfaced, I herd nothing more of this case. I went around to varies websites, looking up information on this case but I had little to no luck. So I emailed Corsair and got this reply! This is very encouraging!

Guys, I'm struggling - later this year the Acer Predator x27 and x35p monitors are coming out, and I can afford one of them!!!! ; but which? I've been doing the maths: The x27 has 67% more pixels. They are both the same vertical size, but the x35p is 30% wider. (I don't care about the difference between 200hz and 144, and should I care about tobii eye tracking?) I'll be upgrading from a 29'' 1080p 60Hz Ultrawide and: I love the extra horizontal space while playing games like Witcher 3 or GTA 5. And for productivity.. having full-size documents side by side is a dream. but 70% of the time I have black bars: While watching youtube, playing Overwatch, Starcraft, or Dark Souls 3, and the constant switch to 16:9 for cutscenes in all games is not great. If you could buy one of these beauties, which would you pick and why? Other info: (I don't do video editing) (I do spend 10h+ a day at my computer for work/play) (Till I get a tv, my monitor is where I watch movies/tv) (I have a GTX 1080)

HTC has announced its new subscription based VR service at CES today. One of the few things that prevented me from jumping into VR was the cost of buying games. LG has seen an increasing popularity in the market of displays from phones all the way to jaw-dropping televisions The company has announced that they will showcase new monitors that will surely entice consumers with the latest technologies available The monitors will appear in the next Consumer Electronics Show which will happen from January next year (less than a month away) The first model they would like to introduce is the 32UD99, a 4K HDR IPS monitor with USB-C The company has also stated what specific HDR standard they utilize which is nice to see The second monitor they will introduce is the 34UM79M, a chromecast-enabled Ultrawide monitor designed as a "multimedia" monitor The more interesting bit about the Ultrawide monitor is the Dual Controller feature which enables users to switch between the PC and mobile device using a single screen This means you will be able to adjust the monitor's settings using your mobile device so adjusting settings using buttons on the monitor won't be necessary I have become a fan of LGs monitors and televisions because of the sheer amount of features they pack and the sleek designs they utilize I would honestly like to see more monitors utilize the technologies that they're bringing forward to enable the market to be a tad bit more crowded Source: LG, The Verge

Holograms are often used in science fiction due to the sheer potential the technology expresses to the users. Companies have recently shown that they're looking towards a future that is making our fantasies reality. BMW teased the technology's presence in the vehicle that they will showcase to the world at CES 2017 The company has had some attempts at renewing and introducing features to vehicles and many of them include displays that can be utilized by the driver which makes holographic touch controls next on their list It will definitely be a step towards the future of the automobile and shows that there is something more than the touchscreens that currently end up in almost all the devices that are currently coming out of the factories. I am curious as to how soon this technology may arrive though I am not yet sure whether it will push through at all then again they do call them concept cars. Source: Slash Gear, Engadget

Speculations is going around that Asus might reveal their thinnest laptop at this years CES. Model of that laptop is Asus ROG GX501 and inside packs a Intel Kaby Lake quad core processor, 24GB of ram, NVMe SSD, 4K display, and a GTX1080.
