Hi, so I learnt recently that monitors can only show frames as much as the refresh rate, for example, my 75Hz monitor can only show 75FPS as a maximum, and any remaining frames are excess and aren't shown. I've wondered, does anyone else limit/cap their FPS (not to be confused with V-sync) in games? In Overwatch and CSGO, I always limit my FPS to 75 due to aforementioned monitor refresh rate, and it feels nice. The reason I say that is because I feel like the excess frames are using up more resources? I don't know if it's just me.

I've bought a new laptop and every game I've played, the fps is capped at 60. This only seems to happen when applications are fullscreen only. I've already turned v sync off in nvidia control & the games but the problem is still occurring. I'm using high performance power plan as well. My specs are: i5 7300hq GTX1050 8GB RAM At this point I'm tempted to install a fresh copy of windows and hope for the best... Edit: It is 100% linked with my refresh rate as if I change the freq. then the cap changes also.

Okay, so I'm not sure since when this is happening, but recently I noticed my laptop (asus K56CB) with i5-3337U @1.8Ghz that most of the time operates on boost clock speeds @2.5Ghz. After few days of not restarting the laptop (hibernate, sleep) it caps itself to 0.99Ghz and laptop slows down significantly. First time I found it capped I found someone fixing this with updating ATK package so after installing it and restarting it, clocks speeds were back to normal, but after some time not restarting the laptop it capped itself again. The laptop is always plugged in so this shouldn't be a power plan problem. Is there a way to fix this? Or is this some sort of way Windows 10 forcing you to restart, so they can run their updates? I'm new to forums, but I've been watching Linus Tech Tips for a while. I'm open to any suggestions or discussion. Thanks in advance

Greetings once again to the LTT community. Lately, I've been having some trouble keeping my download cap in check. The way it works is I get 225 GB at a reasonable speed of 8 MB/s, but when that runs out, my speed is reduced to an unbearably slow 512 KB/s, until it's renewed at the end of the month. As a result, I've been watching videos in 144p to control bandwidth, and have downright refrained from downloading any software or games for months. Unfortunately, my current living quarters are not solely my own, and the Wi-Fi network is shared by my family. A rather spiteful relative has moved in, and she's been streaming hours of YouTube content in 1080p, which turns out to have been the reason my bandwidth cap is being depleted so fast. Today is the first day of the new cycle, and although I only woke up an hour ago, eight gigabytes have already been consumed. What makes this all worse is that I'm paying for the entire bandwidth plan, which is a significant portion of what I earn in a month, and is essential to my work. Since this relative refuses to reason or always pretends they are streaming in far lower quality (usually hastily reverting to 360p just as I enter the room), I can only conclude that they won't listen to reason. Furthermore, I can't just change the network password, and their phone is password-protected, so I can't install software directly onto it. As a result, I've been looking for a way to limit the data used by particular devices through the router or network hardware itself (An Apple Time Capsule/Airport and a standard-fare NetGear Router). This has become a very serious problem, and I'm usually unable to do a lot of my work in the last week of each month due to my bandwidth cap being reached. I'd be very grateful for any help regarding the issue. Regards, Aereldor.

Ok, let me explain, back in 2015 We switched from at&t internet (15 download 6 upload) to cox internet (100 download 10 upload). Everything was fine and dandy through the holiday season no hidden fees, no hoops to jump through, it seemed perfect. but there was a law Passed recently in Ohio (where I am currently residing) where they can no longer slow down the internet speed (Throttle) when more people were on the internet in my area. A month after out bill on Christmas day, they put this data usage cap OF ONLY 700GB per month! and if you go over its $10 per 50gb you go over. Now YouTube and Netflix are playing constantly around the house with 5 family members You can see how fast the data just disappears. But I noticed that when we would start getting close to the data cap (about 100gb's left) That the videos would just buffer non stop. And to get a constant watchable non buffer video I would have to watch at 240P! wtf is that? Since then we have upgraded to 300 download and 30 upload with a 2000Gb limit. But that throttling that was going on, Can we sue them? Should we even try? any help is appreciated!

Hey I was wondering, I'm building my self a new PC since my old ass macbook obviusly can't run most games (fallout 4.) But one of the things ive noticed while playng games on this laptop like csgo and half-life, portal... is that all have fps jumps from mabye 80 sometimes to 30 and its very frustrating. I would just like to know if theirs any app or anything that could (for my new PC) cap my fps at 60 but also boost my fps to a constant 60. Im fine with overclocking btw.

In news that could be filed under "not surprising", Apple has gone on and earned itself an outrageous market cap that is a first for a US company and they've even managed to outdo Exxon Mobile. Let that sink in. A tech company has blasted past a OIL COMPANY for top position in the capitalism food chain. Thats just nuts. Of course, Saudi Aramco is private but I wouldn't be shocked to see Apple blow past 1 trillion in the near future, with the way the industry is going. This kind of growth is just staggering, fuelled by every corner of the market. Enthusiasts, fanboys, average joes. Greed definitely is good for the bottom line and Apple seems pretty happy to continue this. I'll be honest, I always thought the bubble wold've burst a long time ago and they would "settle" but I wouldn't have predicted this at all. http://www.investmentnews.com/article/20150211/FREE/150219987/apples-market-cap-tops-700-billion-a-milestone-for-u-s-companies

Hey guys, I got a 780ti at the start of Feb, and got a custom loop soon after, and its been running quite nice and cool for a while now. The problem however is that my overclocks don't seem to much better as the voltage of the card seems to be capped at 1.187v no matter ho far I crank them up in kepler bios tweaker. the skynet bios also dosent work on my version of the card (zotac 780ti oc) due to a bios id mismatch, so im stuck playing around in KBT. In msi afterburner even before I played around with the bios, the voltage control slider did practically nothing. I was pleased at first as it appeared that I had a whole 75mv to play with as oppose to the 12mv I had on the previous 760's, however at least that actually did something... on the topic of msi afterburner, the voltage, and max ov limit always seem to be tripped, even if the card is on the stock bios, and running at stock clocks/ volts. I'm fairly pleased with the card, but it bothered me that im not able to change fairly fundamental aspects of the gpu, even with a modded bios...

Hi guys, so I just installed my two GTX 980s and I tried to play Assassin's Creed Black Flag with all settings maxed out of course. But I noticed that the FPS would always go only to 60FPS and not higher. Meanwhile the GPUs are incredibly understressed with 40-50% usage each. This might not sound like a problem but the framerate sometimes drops down to 40-45 when I'm free running in Havanna for example. VSYNC is turned off globally and also in-game. So do you know a way to improve performance for this game?

I bought Splinter Cell Blacklist from Humble Bundle, opted for torrent DL, and am capped down to 6.1kb/s at 92%. I have been uploading at nearly 2MB/s the entire time. Why would I get capped? Anyone know how to alleviate this situation?

Many are upset with the supposed framerate cap of 30FPS (the tech report) that was said to be implemented on the PC version of The Evil Within. Along with this, Bethesda claimed some very beefy recommended specs including 4GB of VRAM to even run at 1080p. Ways to unlock FPS cap, change aspect ratio, and/or enable various GOD modes (incgamers) The game is to be officially released at midnight tonight, but it actually launched for me a few minutes ago. I'm waiting for it to get dark on my side of the planet, but I wanted to dial in the settings. That's were I came across what seems like a bug. I set the resolution to 1440p, and it simply enlarged the image to scale (cutting half of the game off the screen). I set out to investigate a way to fix and run it at 1440p, a resolution which is supported by my VG248QE but not native, (so your mileage may very?) which is how I learned about the above FPS cap, and rec specs. TL;DR The Evil Within capped to 30fps Ways to unlock that and other imposed restraints linked above Game will launch and play NOW 1440p resolution doesn't seem to work

Hi, I am looking for a different spacebar shape on my logitech G710+. The stock spacebar is to edgy and to far away from my thumb to put my thumb comfortably on the spacebar. This is REALLY annoying in shooters where you need to jump a lot. This is how it is: And thits is more or less how I'd like it to be: I'd like to have the spacebar less edgy and pointing more towards me. Can someone help me finding a replacement keycap?

So, I recently took apart my Corsair VS 550 PSU to change the stock fan with a Noctua one I had and to my disappointment, I found out that Corsair were using crappy CapXon branded capacitors. Naturally, I had to change these, as they are known to be among the worst of the bad. As this forum is for modding, I'm not going to cover the things you should have in mind when replacing bad capacitors. There are a lot of exhaustive tutorials out there. Let's get started. Here's our patient: And here are our replacements. While Samwha are not the best caps out there, they're the only ones my local electronics store had and I certainly feel much safer with them. Plus, they're 105 C rated. Here's a look inside the PSU: A closer look reveals the mixture of Aishi and CapXon caps: Here's my 'map', showing where to put the capacitors and how to orient them. If you're doing such mod, you should definitely make one of these, as wrong markings on the PCB are not rare and the capacitance on each spot is not marked. I didn't bother to write down the voltage ratings, as all the stock caps are rated for up to 6.3, 10 or 16 volts, and I'm going to be replacing them all with 25V caps just to have bigger safety margin. And here's what the PSU looks like with the caps unsoldered: Here we have the stock "CrapXon" and Aishi ones: And here's the final result. The 25V caps turned out bigger than I expected, so some of them ended up lifted off the PCB. That, I think, is fine, as long as there's no way for the leads to short. Now all I had to do was solder the fan back on and assemble the PSU. I don't have the tools to measure ripple, but like I said, I feel safer knowing that there aren't any more of the CapXon caps inside my PSU. The benefits of doing this mod are longer lifespan and no danger of damaging other components in your PC when the caps go bad ('cause if they are CapXon branded, they will most probably fail eventually). Have fun replacing caps!

Im having huge problems with crysis 3. sometimes when im lucky the game runs att 100+ fps and smooth as butter on max settings but for the most part (9 out of 10) the game seem to lock itself to 64fps and i get huge framedrops down to min 32fps and not one frame under that, it seems totaly random. This only happens with crysis 3, it never happens with other games. I have tried one gtx 780 and two gtx 780 in sli but its the same thing on all settings. Even if i put everything on low it does this. drops from 64 to 32 at random. has anyone had this happen to you or know how to fix it? All other games i have tried work perfectly

I've been in a lot of discussion with some of my friends and brothers about the mythical 30 FPS cap on the XBOX 360 and the PS3. On some games that makes sense but they say it's all games and everything about them. I've played more Forza 3 than I'm willing to admit, and that game along with games like COD (echk), side-scrolling platformers, 2-D games, and general things of that sort look like they have much more than just 30 FPS, especially things like Forza 3's decal maker. (TL;DR) So my main question is: Do the current gen consoles have a 30 FPS limiter?
