Reddit thread. Copying a explanation comment because they did it way better than I ever could. This is the beginning of implementing the UK blocking system in Canada. There will be mission creep just like the UK. The beginning of telling you what you are and are not aloud to do with the bandwidth you pay for. They say it's for one thing now but just wait. you already see how authoritarian they are. CRTC Link [–]multiplegeorges r/Canada So, I went through the primary document in the application bundle and here it is in their own words. What they want implemented Note that this does not explain who would make up the IPRA and where they would come from. They propose that this be determined at a later date. It will almost certainly be staffed and lead by industry beholden people. Why they want this implemented The cite lots of general US and Australian stats and apply them to the Canadian situation, assuming it is the same here: What does this have to do with Canada? Nice extrapolation. No evidence from Canadian sources on this. Here's the actual reason they want this implemented. They aren't able to compete with OTT services and are losing subscribers. And they don't even know if how much piracy is affecting their poor subscriber numbers, but oh man, they are sure that it is! But don't worry, they want this done to protect us from the hackers... Some tired arguments we've seen before Argument Reality They are losing all their subscribers to piracy Wrong. They are not competing effectively against OTT services like Netflix. Plus, their set-top boxes are the goddamn worst pieces of crap machines and I can use my phone to stream Netflix to my Chromecast. AND THERE ARE NO ADS. They are losing subscribers because their services are bad. Every downloaded show or movie counts as negative revenue in their spreadsheets. This assumes everyone who pirate something would actually spend money on it. This is obviously false and is the same tired old argument we saw in software piracy and music piracy. For both those industries, cheaper and more convenient services have effectively wiped out piracy: Steam and Spotify/iTunes. It's killing the Canadian creative industry False. It's doing great. Consumer spending is up. // The whole market is shifting to OTT and non-broadcaster production is doing well. In Conclusion It's the same argument we saw against music piracy with Napster and against video game piracy with IRC/FTP servers back in the day. Their content is too expensive and/or too annoying to access. Both those industries have solved this issue by adapting to the market. Our domestic BDUs do not want to adapt or invest in competitive services. They are proposing a hammer to kill a flea. I propose that piracy is a tiny part of the problem and if there was a way I could buy channels a la carte without ads, I might actually get a cable box again. Until then, it's Netflix and going to the movie theatre for me.

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a laptop under $1.2k in Canada that is capable of playing modern games well with a discrete GPU, but also doesn't have the "Gamer look" in any way whatsoever. I will possibly be using it at day to do business in which I would be showing clients something using the laptop on a regular basis(Nothing against the gamer look, it just doesn't fit in to what I'm doing). I've had a lot of trouble finding the exact thing I'm describing. I purchased an Inspiron 5577 laptop - the closest to the match I could find (it still had red "gamer details" but they were subtle), but am am sending back because the poor quality hard drive in it caused startup times of close to three minutes and long load times for initial launches of programs and games (Yes, I know, it's the era of SSD, but I have several older laptops from 2011 which actually boot Windows 10 faster than the thing so there is really no excuse. I have never, ever seen a hard drive that bad.). So, now I'm back to the drawing board and am really looking to get something before Fed 22. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!! Cheers!

Hey all, I'm really interested in getting the NZXT H200i for a mini-itx build, but it seems to be pretty rare in Canada. Has anyone in this forum from Canada managed to get one? If so, where did you shop for it? Thanks!

Wanting to upgrade desktop with ~$1000 CAD budget
Shockalt posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
1. Budget & Location ~$1000 CAD in B.C. A little more (~100-200) is fine. 2. Aim Mostly web browsing, office work, "high end" tasks would be playing games like Path of Exile or Civ on good quality (or higher). 3. Monitors Hoping for 2 1080p monitors at least. Anything higher resolution is just a cherry on top 4. Peripherals I'll most likely need Windows (7 is fine, 10 is good too). No keyboard/mouse needed. 5. Why are you upgrading? Using a prebuilt Dell computer from 2011 (or before I can't remember) and I thought it's time to upgrade Currently considering two options. One from https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Lonxu/saved/qkvZ8d and the other from https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/fbdVJV. I'm a computer newbie and I'm not sure which one would be a better fit since prices are kinda similar (2nd one is cheaper). I'm not going to be doing anything hardcore with the computer besides gaming every once in a while. I'm also not sure about SSD since it seems very popular but I've never used one. Any cheaper alternatives in either scenario that would be better? Thanks in advance. -
Budget & Location $400CAD (up to $500 if necessary, and to be realistic) ON, Canada Aim I went from an old pre-built HP Elite with a HD 5570 (2009 - 2011), to an Asus G73Sw gaming laptop (2011-2016), to the same HP Elite with a 750ti slapped in (2016 - Death by power surge, RIP). I'd like this build to play my backlog/to-play list at 1080p60 (excusing games that have poor optimization) with heavy modding. Eg. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Dark Souls 1-3, TES III - V, FO3 - NV, Dying Light. Future-proofing isn't a priority as I probably won't get through these games for five to six years. Monitor (budget $300 - 400CAD)(Entirely separate budget from the build, cannot be moved over) This may be better posted in the monitors section, but I could use help with this as well. I'm debating between one of: Non-Curved: LG 29UM69G-B, Dell U2917W Curved: LG 27CF591, LG 29UC88-B I have no opinion on curved monitors at this point, and find 34-inches a bit too big. Peripherals I have a Logitech M510 and have no plans to buy a keyboard until I can find one on sale, probably refurbished on newegg Why I am Upgrading My wife and I are trying to separate our fun spaces from our work spaces, which means I'll be removing every one of my games (at the moment, Darkest Dungeon and HL1 + mods) from my work laptop (Asus E403SA). I'm focusing on a mITX build out of curiosity, and because the portability will be nice when travelling for school and work. Here is my current plan: CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1400 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($150.00) Motherboard: Gigabyte - GA-AB350N-Gaming WIFI (rev. 1.0) Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard ($120.00) Memory: Crucial - 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($80.00) Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased For $0.00) Video Card: Zotac - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Mini Video Card ($140) Case: Fractal Design - Define Nano S Mini ITX Desktop Case ($80.00) Power Supply: EVGA - 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($40.00) Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit (Purchased For $0.00) Headphones: Sennheiser - HD 598 CS Headphones (Purchased For $0.00) External Storage: Seagate - Backup Plus Slim 2TB External Hard Drive (Purchased For $0.00) Total: $610 Is it possible to save any more money on this build, given its aim? And if not, are there any better parts at a similar price that I can swap the above for? UPDATE 1: Swapped out Crucial 1x8GB for 2x4GB UPDATE 2: Swapped out G4560 for Ryzen 5 1400 UPDATE 3: Swapped out B250 Pro for B350 UPDATE 4: Swapped out EVGA 1050 Ti SSC for Zotac 1050 Ti Mini

I'm looking to build a new pc for my girlfirend as a christmas present to upgrade her old PC which is an Dell Precision 390 tower with a c2d e6600, a GTS 250 1GB, 4GB DDR2 and a 375watt PSU. I currently have a GTX 750ti that I picked up for $70 and have $230 left in the budget to spend on the rest. I'm currently looking at this or this. Keep in mind That this will probably get more upgrades in the future like more ram and a better cpu. I'm currently leaning towards the ivy bridge i3 as its cheaper andand will have usb 3. Also Thinking upgrades on ebay like a xeon E3 v2 and 8GB of DDR3 ECC in about 4 months when her birthday comes up. Looking for comments and better suggestions. I live in ontario near ottawa, so options in used hardware are very limited and expensive.

Hey guys. I'm looking to build an entry level gaming PC, taking advantage of Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday deals. My budget is $700 before tax and shipping, and I'm in Canada. I don't need a monitor, or any peripherals. Preferably limited to Amazon, Newegg, and Canada Computers (a good enough sale, and I'll look at others as well). This is the closest I've been able to put together on PCPartPicker. PCPartPicker Part List: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/pFhY9G CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor ($145.99 @ Amazon Canada) Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 AORUS ELITE ATX AM4 Motherboard ($129.99 @ Amazon Canada) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($79.98 @ Amazon Canada) Storage: Samsung 860 Evo 500 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($79.98 @ Amazon Canada) Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon RX 570 4 GB Gaming 4G Video Card ($169.00 @ Canada Computers) Case: Rosewill NAUTILUS ATX Mid Tower Case ($40.99 @ Amazon Canada) Power Supply: Corsair CXM 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply ($79.98 @ Amazon Canada) Total: $725.91 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-11-28 10:01 EST-0500 I was hoping to be able to get the 3600, but then a video card would be out of the question? Secondary storage, better cooling (if needed), will come later. For case, mainly just don't want glass. And the rest, leaning towards reliability/longevity as much as possible. Here is my PCPartPicker, with a few builds and a bunch of parts favourited that I'm keeping an eye on. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/Kytheon/ Comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

This community seems good (the few posts i've made have received goods answers with pleasant people) i wanted to know if some people could tell me some names i should check, or any other information that could help me ! To make my Visa in a good lapse of time, i've to find a company before december. Hello! I would like to build a PC and I have the parts selected, I just wanted to know if there is any improvements that I could make or ways to make it cheaper. The aim for this PC is to run games at 1080p at +60FPS, but the games that I will be playing will not be very graphic intensive, but I would like a stronger GPU so I can play some games that are more graphic intense if I want to. I will be running 1 monitor for now and then possibly add another monitor. Both of these monitors will be 1080p. I live in Canada and would like to order in the next 2-3 days. Thanks! Hi, so, my Asus Z170-A motherboard is dead and I live in Canada. Is the costumer care here as bad as I heard it was in other countries? (Couldn't find costumer care reviews that came from CA). I just want to have an idea on the potential trouble there is to come. Thanks.

tbh, no one should have to hand over any password, ever. regardless of what they did. the second you have one password from someone, many things can happen. it can be leaked you can figure out other passwords (most people use variations) your personal life may be / is at risk what if the person has not done anything ? could you just be brought to court by error and suddently have your whole life given away ? no privacy ? this should not happen in my opinion. ever. Sources : http://www.insidehalton.com/news-story/6811228-police-chiefs-want-means-to-get-passwords/ http://www.theweeklynews.ca/news-story/6811228-police-chiefs-want-means-to-get-passwords/ I put the 2 cus I find it funny that the 2 websites are the exact same thing, with different names.

Hey guys. Not sure if I should be making a new topic, but i'm new here (and to forums in general) andI was wondering. Are fans allowed to turn up to the LMG office? If not, can we ask permission from Linus or something? I live in london, and I'll be visiting Canada soon, so I was wondering if I would be allowed to visit. Thanks for any suggestions!

Hello fellow LTT forum minions. I would like some advice on a few topics to help ease my move to Ottawa. I will be attending Carleton University and will arrive in Ottawa in late august. Things i want to know about: Will the weather kill me if i bike to university in the winter? (bike ride is 12-15 mins) What are best places to buy groceries and other everyday items? If i want to buy a phone with contract which carrier is the cheapest and the best? (Huawei P9 or HTC 10. Yes I know only bell is providing the 10) If anyone has bought the Bell HTC 10, please explain the pros and cons plus whats included in the contracts. (never had a contract before so EILI5) What I want in my plan is at least 1gb with good connectivity. I don't really know about other features because like I said I have never bought a plan before. Hope people reply to this. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'd like to build my first pc ever. I've read quite a lot to bring my knowledge up to speed, and I think I'm ready to make the big Jump, but I'd like to have some confirmation and help before that. Location : Canada / Québec / Montreal Purpose : Gaming, I already have an SSD (Samsung 850 EVO 500 Gb) from my laptop which died (problem with the motherboard) that I plan to use I already have a Screen (27" 1080p 60Hz) Mouse (Razer Mamba) and an old keyboard I think, since it will be a new PC that I will need to format the Hard drive, and so buy a new copy of windows. 1/ can I format the hard drive from the bios while building the new computer or will I have problem and need to buy a new one? 2/ Is there legal way to have Windows copy cheaper than 150$ CAD ??? (Which seems really expensive) Budget : 1500$ +/- 500$ CAD (included the 15% taxes) I'm flexible on the budget, but not above 2000$ and really looking to have the most from my money. I want something to game at 1080p / 60Hz for the next 1/2 years, and after that, I'll probably upgrade my monitor and graphic card to ultra wide 1440p, so I want the others parts to be able to support this futur upgrade, or if better, buy right now the GC, and only have the screen left to buy later. what I'm currently looking for is: CPU: Intel i5 6600K - seems enough for gaming and be futur proof Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - seems a good deal, to have something cheap but working well enough Motherboard: Asus Z170-A - seems to have good review RAM : Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2x8) DDR4 3200 - seems to have few difference between different speed in price, so I think I'll go with 3200, even if I read I probably won't do much difference Case : NZXT H440 Razer edition - The case has good review, I know I'm paying premium for the Razer one, but since It will what I'll see, I'm ok with that (so I'm trying to have Black and green parts PSU: EVGA Supernova P2 750W - I'm hesitate between G2, P2, and 650 or 750 Watts, it will depend on graphic cards, but If I go with RX480 Crossfire, then I think I'll required 750Watts, but the others case, 640W will probably be enough. I read Moshe the time the PSU is overlook, but don't want to overkill either, but if a good one can last, but reuse for futur build in 7 years, I don't mince paying a little more (or to be quieter as well and safer for the parts. OS: Windows 10 Wireless: Gigabyte GC WB867D 802 ac Wifi Adapter Graphic Card : RX480? GTX 1060 ? Or 1070 and be futur proof? - big question on this one. And for future 1440p Ultra Wide, is it better to have one RX480 and buy another one for crossfire down the road, or already stretch my budget for a GTX1070? Or take a GTX1060, and try to sell it later to upgrade to 1070 (or 1080?) and reference version or custom ones? I'll probably had Razer DeathStalker keyboard and Razer Kraken to complete the mix. here is a preliminary list from pcpartpicker http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/xRnMcc 3/ to be quieter and cooler should I put more fans? Replace standard fans? Add a fan controller? down the road, I might want to put some custom sleeves cables, led, or maybe let fans to had a cool green touch, but currently make it work wil be my main focus. 4/ some advice on getting the toolkits to build this? ifixit seems to have nice one, but when you add the shipping and taxes (plus I only found it on USD so add the exchange rate) it seems quite expensive after all that! Any suggestion, or someplace I can buy in Montreal? 5/ are they reseller I should avoid? Never heard of Vuugo nor ME... ??? thanks a lot for your help.

Today TunnelBear was pretty cool. For the last few days I'm been itching to try Pokemon Go. For the last few days I've been just staring at "Not Available in you region" on the Google Play store with udder sadness and hearing other people talk about it with jealousy. Ingress go me hooked in augmented reality gaming and I had to have this Pokemon DLC. Well, No longer am I a "have-not Pokemon Go", today TunnelBear made me a have. Steps to achieve Pokemon Go Greatness within Canada: 1. Create new Google account making sure to specify your account as being in the sucky ol USA slightly less awesome United States of America. I just hopped into Incognito mode for a couple minutes to make the account. 2. Add this new Google account to your cell phone. Don't worry, Android supports multiple Google accounts. 3 Install TunnelBear. Make account. Flick the single button to turn on the VPN. 4. Open Google Play Store, switch to the USA account, Search "Pokemon GO" 5. Be delighted that the stupid "Chat for Pokemon Go" isn't the first option. And I even have 450MB to go this month before I even have to think about paying anything. Not bad TunnelBear.. Not bad. No janky APK sideloading for me. Now for Pokemon GO ... hold on .. I think I see something ... brb
