More great news for the LTT team and their Canadian brethren. Google might be acknowledging that your 1) a first world country, 2) Located in North America, 3) A key partner in NAFTA and NATO. Don't worry, those US citizens not in the bay area are forgotten at times too (YouTube TV!!!) Announcement: https://canada.googleblog.com/2017/06/google-home-is-coming-to-canada.html Apparently, the delay was because of all your baguette-eating citizens in Quebec, eh! Congratulations and welcome to the G world! That is until the next time Google forgets about users again in pursuit of robots, AI, or something else shiny.

So I have a OnePlus 2 with T-Mobile. I'm currently in Canada. T-Mobile lets you have unlimited data in most other countries, albeit at 2G speeds. Canada is one of them. Cellular data has been working fine for me. I've had roaming on in order to use Cellular, and it connects me to Bell, through which I get Cellular. It's been working all fine and dandy, until today. I updated my phone to OxygenOS 3.5.8 yesterday night. This morning I noticed that I wasn't getting any Cellular anymore. Texting and calling was still fine, but Cellular wasn't. Now before you say, "You updated yesterday not today." If it stopped working yesterday I wouldn't have known since I was on wifi until today. Since that was the main change that happened between then, I suspect the update is what did it. Things I've tried: Rebooting and shutting down then turning my phone on. Resetting the APN settings. Manually entering APN settings that I've found on the internet that are for T-Mobile. Selecting different network operators like Telus or Roger instead. Switching to 2G only or 2G/3G. Turning mobile data off and on again. Turning data roaming off and then on again. Taking the SIM card out and then putting it back in. None of it worked. I also noticed that in my SIM status it says under Service State: Voice: In Service / Data: In Service. It also says under Cellular network type 4G. However, under Cellular network state it says Disconnected. Also, I can't just downgrade back to OxygenOS 3.5.6, partly because I really don't want to since that would require backups and flashing, and partly because I can't yet since I didn't bring a laptop with me to Canada so it's impossible. Do any of you have any idea?

Does anybody know a store that can buy your used hardware? I have a Microbytes and a Canada Computers near my house.

Hello LTT. I have a small problem. At my school, some students have started making controversy on how Canada doesn't exist. What should I do about it?

Hi, I'm looking for a fast and lightweight Windows laptop for a friend of mine. Doesn't have to be the smallest/thinnest thing around, but I'd like to keep it towards that end of the spectrum. Main uses: Office work web browsing photo editing Here are the minimum specs I'm leaning towards 15" IPS display (1080p or 1440p should be fine) 8 GB RAM 256 SSD A few ports are always nice (some USB and something to connect a monitor to) Long battery life isn't critical but is a bonus Doesn't need dedicated graphics or any special features (touchscreen, fingerprint scanner, etc). Don't care about webcam/mic quality. Don't have a budget in mind. Just going for the lowest price that can hit the target I suppose. Here's a few I've been looking at but am open to suggestions Dell Inspiron 15 7000 2-in-1 ($1099 model) Dell XPS 15 ($1799 SSD model although likely getting too expensive when the other cheaper options seem viable) Lenovo Yoga 710 15" ($1299 model)

A Canadian cartoonist has been targeted by anti-LGBT cyberterrorists in an attack which resulted in thousands of death threats, placed her personal information online, threatened the launch of her newest book at a Halifax bookstore, and replaced her website with Nazi imagery. The attack has reportedly caused the cartoonist to "go into hiding". The attack appears to have been coordinated and service providers / law enforcement are involved. Along with threats against the cartoonist other threats were made against the book store hosting the launch event of her book. Montreal Police have been found to have obtained 24 warrants to surveil La Presse columnist 24/7. The warrants issued were broad, allowing the police to not only track his location at all time, but also to allow them to obtain the information of everyone who he contacted. Toronto Star CBC This is part of a bigger issue at hand. Last year the Canadian Government passed Bill C-51, a bill which the Harper government created to increase the police's power to surveil Canadians and which granted them more power to act on intelligence. This new bill created a warrant which can “contravene a right or freedom guaranteed by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms” or be “contrary to other Canadian law”. Overall, it's essentially the Patriot Act, but in Canada; but to see the police using the additional powers granted them in this bill (which was centered around terrorism) is disturbing. Sadly, this isn't the first time that an issue such as this has happened (specifically, the Montreal Police have done things like this before) and I suspect that it will only become all too common in the future.

I just wanted to say that I had gone up to Montreal last week and really enjoyed my first taste of Canada! I saw a lot of the sights and walked around the city, was a part of the active night life as well! Me and my buddies are already planning another trip to Canada to see more of it! I encourage my fellow natives of the USA to stretch your legs and go see our neighbors at some point in your life, even if it is not Montreal and somewhere else in Canada!

Hello guys I am in the market to buy a new phone on a budget price of $300 CAD. I had always used an IOS devices (iPhone,iPod). I am looking to switch to android because I want to learn the OS and also android phones have a better entry price. What I am looking for in a phone? ***Long battery life no need to recharge or worry about it using any brightness setting I want. Quick charging technologies would be good for some occasions but not needed as I will charge it at night mostly. -play music/browse internet/use google apps such as drive/docs occasional light games/read comics while I commute. -i don't know if this one can fit but a good looking screen would be nice (good colors and what not) resolution of screen does not matter as I am only doing basic things on the phone and Think a 720p would be cheaper and do just fine. ***the software needs to be good and reliable. the hardware as well. -some kind of warranty offered by the manufacturer in Canada. (cant risk international editions) I have been looking at the zenfone 3 series by asus, some lg phones such as lg x power 2 and moto phones but I am unsure which one of them would work and if there are some that I am missing? I do not want to order phones from china as it is sketchy (shipping wise) even though their phones look awesome (xiaomi) but I do not want to take risks. What phones would you recommend? I am excited to see what you guys have to say! Thank you for helping me out

So I have a buddy that's been wanting to grab a new pc for the last few years and he's finally saved up some money to do so. His original budget was $500 CAD, but I've gotten him up to $800 since he can't reuse anything out of his old tower except for Windows. Used parts are not an option, unfortunately. His last system was built 10ish years ago, its based off of the AM2 platform. I'm going to be building it for him so that he can save money on pre-builts. I'll be overclocking the CPU modestly with a spare 212 Evo once I get a bracket. He already has a monitor (1080p 60hz generic) and peripherals so that's why those aren't included. Windows isn't included because I'll be reusing his current copy of W7. Pc Partpicker link: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/qjX7NN I could potentially save: $20-25.50 by switching the ATX board to a Micro ATX $30-35.00 by buying a bottom of the barrel case, though I chose something half decent if he's going to upgrade it down the line $60ish by not getting an SSD Is the 1300x worth the extra $25 if the CPU is gonna be swapped in 2-3 years? Should I tell him to wait until Black Friday? Do Black Friday sales even happen in Canada lmao? Any input would be greatly appreciated, I'm sure there are some bros out there that have made something work on a strict budget.

Hello people of LTT, I come bearing a question. To anyone in the Ontario, Canada area using Teksavvy as an Internet Service Provider: Have you been able to sign up with their service while using a modem that they do not ship, and that you have bought which was not included under their "Approved Modems" list? I'm currently exploring different avenues in terms of getting cheaper internet, but want to make sure I can get the best bang for the buck seeing as Rogers is duping me for the same speeds at a larger price. If this involves me buying a modem, I don't mind it at all, I just want to know what I could do in the worst/best case scenario. Thank you!

Hey guys, sorry for *yet another* "I have this budget help me make a build?" thread, but yes, I have $1900 CAD and am looking for the best build for that price range (with monitor, got other peripherals). The budget is exactly $1900 (as opposed to "saving a bit more" for $2000) because I live on a fixed disability income and *barely* get enough monthly to survive, so saving more isn't really an option for me, it would take hypothetically around 6 months for that additional $100 to be able to be set aside, so I need to work with what I've got now. I'm not super fussed about whether it's AMD or Intel with the new AMD stuff out in the last while. I've been blue team for a loooong time, but only because of lack of new AMD stuff. But long story short for what I need to do with it, I do music production (Ram heavy, mildly processor heavy) and of course, gaming. I don't think it's possible to cram a 1080 in that price range also including a monitor, but I suppose a 1070 might be possible? Ideally I'd like everything to be available locally as I don't have a credit card, there's a Memory Express relatively close to me(Edmonton, Canada). Hopefully someone can help me get a good parts list going for my price range and I can check if my local memory express has the parts in stock, and it has to be in CAD, which is a problem. Everything is wayyy more expensive here. Edit: Another thing I should mention I'm not fussed about resolution, so if anyone has a monitor suggestion, ideally I'd just a decent 1080p IPS panel if it fits into the budget to squeeze some more frames out rather than anything higher than that. 23 inches is my "sweet spot" for a gaming monitor. Not too big, not too small. I have a monitor currently, but it's a ratty old 720P monitor I just use as a secondary/peripheral monitor for productivity, not for gaming. (I'm coming from a laptop)

This is more of an opinion piece than news but no one is bringing this to the "mainstream" eye and I thought this may be a good forum to do so. As a previous Note 7 owner I was happy to see that Samsung was offering US customers deep discounts when purchasing a new Note 8, $425 deep! WOW! But what about the 38 000 Canadian's that owed Note 7. Since day 1 (August 23rd) Samsung said that there would be an incentive program in Canada "shortly". It has now been 1 month of patiently waiting for the incentive program, the pre-order bonuses have come and gone. US customers could bundle the "bonuses" but not us Canadians. Speaking of pre-order bonuses US bonuses are a 256gb SD card and a wireless charger or a 360 camera, what does Canada get? Samsung: "um... ya we don't care about Canadians lets only give them a 128gb card and a wireless charger, forget about the camera".

Hi all! Right now I need some of opinions about where to live. Right now I live in Puerto Rico and the hurricane that happen was completely devastating. I personally want o go to Canada or USA since in USA and Canada I can get more options on buying stuff and well, better community and all. Is Canada great to live? Or the USA it's better or normal? Our family doesn't go outside that often, we do not spend a lot of money and we are nice people. If our desicion is Canada we will have to do some magic tricks or something because there's no family there and our grandma lives in USA. If I do not answer quick it is because we are using public wifi and speeds are from 50kbps to 150kbps. Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi, from September 1st on, I will be staying in BC, Canada for a little over 10 months. For that time period I need a mobile data, phone and sms plan. I am mainly looking for unlimited data (thereof at least 1GB of highspeed data), but also need to send SMS and to do phone calls, but I phone or sms often so I don't want to pay for unlimited sms and phone calls because I am only going to phone 10 minutes and am only going to send 5 sms per month. I don't need a phone and I also don't need cheap roaming as I will stay in Canada for the whole period of 10 months. I would like it to be as cheap as possible. I have spent at least an hour but I simply can't find a single plan that would suit me. I hope some of you guys can help me finding the right plan. In Germany I pay 12€ per month for unlimited data (slowing after 2GB) and unlimited phone calls and sms, but I don't need that much highspeed data neither the unlimited phone calls and sms anyways. I hope you can help me! Thanks in advance and greetings form Germany, Tobias

Source: https://phys.org/news/2017-06-canada-court-google-block-website.html This in intresting, espetially, when You consider all the FreeWeb and gerenal people freedom needs. I mean, I understand blocking sites such as child pornography, drug dealing etc, that's obvious why. But this? I'm not really sure, whether this should be blocked from the search engine, or just the site should be taken down. Also, I know taking down sites from other countries is hard, but up to now, this was the only way. What do You guys think?

I am wondering if Japan, USA, and Canada ( and maybe Mexico), share the same voltages/hertz and are compatible with each other's sockets.
