Hello everyone and thanks if you help! Im not sure if i should buy a used pc or build my own, my budget is 750 cad (with taxes, shipping, and os) Used pc: FX-8320E, GTX 970, 2tb hard drive, 32 gigs of ram, win 10, and he isn't sure if it has a 250gb or 500gb ssd, it's all that for 750, or maybe build one with worse part but upgrade eventually. I will be using it for graphic design and also gaming (not too much gaming tough) HELP!

I'm looking into buying a (possibly refurbished) G4, but I read up that there's a bootloop problem on certain devices, how do I know if it's safe or not? I've heard that serial numbers 505-509 and/or hardware revision 1.0 are the ones afflicted, but some people reported devices with the S/N 511/512 and HW revision 1.1 with said same problem. Should I be worried with just buying a certified refurbished device from amazon/ebay with this floating around? What should I look for to be safe?

Currently have a GTX 980 that's been serving me well for quite a while. Saw GTX 980's on Ebay selling for ~$260 which is insane. Wondering if it would be better to buy a second 980 (and a new PSU lol) or sell my current 980 and find a new card for ~$550 Thanks

Hi, I was just wondering something. I currently have a 60gb ssd in my system and I really need to upgrade soon. I was wondering whether Kingston ssd's are as good a Linus says. Where I live, a Kingston V300 120gb is around $34 USD. Linus praises them to the Sky for their reliability, and it also comes with Arconis, but should I get it? The reviews online are not amazing, I want your input. Thank you!

So i'll be buying all of my components tomorrow- (WOO) https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wCbX6X So besides an AM4 mounting bracket for the cooler, I have NOTHING on hand, I don't know if I need screws, other mounts, cables, height adjusters, some people say the big 1080ti's can lean/tilt/sag because of the weight, i don't know how to prevent this, I know motherboards are put on tiny little height adjustors, no idea what I need for that, (or how to) --I want everything neat and tight but i'm completley unsure of what I need to buy aftermarket to build my rig. thanks for your guys' expertise!

Hi guys, i currently have a brand new gaming rig wit the following specs: Motherboard: gigabyte Z270 Gaming M3 Proccesor: Intel I7 7700K PSU: Corsair RM850X Ram: G-skill Ripjaws 2x 8 GB 2400 mhz GPU: asus geforce gtx 960 strix OC 4 GB As obvious. The GPU is last gen while the rest of the rig is current gen. This is because at the time of building i did not have the money to buy an GPU. I wanted to wait till i had the money for it to go for a slightly high end card, i was thinking 1080 since im playing at 144hz on 1080p and to make use of this 144hz i choose the 1080 over the 1070 since it handels it a bit better. However. a couple of months after i build my pc The bitcoin mining crisis broke out. And almost every gpu price whent up tremendously. Now a couple of months in this mining crisis it does seem to die off a little bit. I don't know if this is temporary or permanent. However i just don't feel like buying a 1080 for 599 (cheapest i found. however it is the reference card. So it gets hot. custom designs are varying from 60 to a 100 dollers more.). I just don't know when the time is. i still have my old pc that i want to sell used. However it currently has no GPU since it is in my current pc. I hope to sell my old pc with GPU for around 300 dollars. This should help getting the 1080. Im just afraid that when i buy the 1080 for 599 that one month later it will be 499 for instance. ive kinda lost track of what the original prices are and what a 1080 actually should cost price to preformance wise. Should a buy one now? or sohould i wait a while longer? what is a good price for the 1080? Im kinda lost. Thanks for the opinions and help in advance.

Funimation agreed that Sony would buy majority of it's stake for 150 million dollars and now it means that Sony distributes anime and has rights to Dragon Ball, Cowboy Bebop, My Hero Academia, and many others. http://www.sonypictures.com/corp/press_releases/2017/07_17/073117_funimation.html https://www.funimation.com/blog/2017/08/01/funimation-agrees-acquired-sony-pictures-television-networks/ As of now currently it doesn't seem to effect anything, it's business as usually, But I want to know what would happen in the long run. Would they redistribute older anime like blu ray releases? Would they eventually change base of operations? Would anime be acquired, produced, and dubbed quicker? Would there be a movie with those Franchises? (I kinda hope not) How would it affect Crunchyroll and it's partnership with funimation in the long run? For me I think Sony would go with what ever gives it more money. I think they would re release older anime on blu ray, and be first to acquire rights to any new show that's hot. I would also think they wouldn't change base of operation because Funimations process of dubbing is already pretty cost effective. What do you guys think about the whole thing I would love to here it.

Build's worth, possible issues, tips, and warnings.
veltoc posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
long story short someone in a player group I am in is selling their old build since they upgraded a few months ago and want someone else to enjoy it, especially someone from said group. the price I was personally given is $200 for this build: Case: LOGISYS Computer CS6801BK Aluminum Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case CPU: AMD A10-7700K Kaveri Quad-Core 3.4 GHz Socket FM2+ 95W MOBO: MSI A68HM-E33 V2 FM2+ AMD A68H SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard Ram: 8GB (4GB x2) DDR3-2133 G.SKILL RIPJAWS RAM CPU cooler: CRYORIG C7 - 47mm Tall, SFF Mini ITX CPU Heatsink GPU powercolor TurboDuo R9 280 PSU: 350w psu (no specific item name atm, came with the case) Storage: Hitachi (0A38876) 1TB 32MB Cache 7200RPM SATA2 (3.0Gbps) 3.5 notes: -the psu is missing the cord to power the gnu -the current owner smokes (cigarettes, weed.. i hate this about the buy.. I'm iffy because of this) however not inside -the case has no fans (jacked for the new build, so will need some) -the GPU has not been mined with known issues: -PSU doesn't have enough wattage to power the GPU -i will need new fans, im thinking of getting a better case and just saving money in the long run. -if the pc smells if could be a deal breaker I guess what I'm wanting to know is if its worth it, smell and issues that need to be fixed included Thanks in advance! -
Hello ladies and gentlemen, Making a purchase of a new laptop. The laptop will be mostly used as a traveling workstation and i would love to play some games on it, while im away. With a budget of £1000 here in the UK i hope i will be able to find something. Whats preferable: Immersive colours and a bright screen. A really nice keyboard for typing. Ability to play CS:GO and League of legends with really good fps (would be nice to play AAA games too) A long lasting battery is preferable. A decently sized screen that's around 15inches. Decent rendering speeds of videos that are 1080p thank you so much and all suggestions are welcome.

Buying sli GTX 660 ti or upgrading to something better?
DMDComposer posted a topic in Graphics Cards
Hi, I do some light gaming and run 4 monitors all on my Nvidia gtx 660 ti. I was wondering if it'll be worth it to invest in another gtx 660 ti and run them in sli mode or just buy an upgraded gtx card like 980 or something else to help improve my fps in gaming. I've never done or messed with sli so I was hoping someone could enlighten me if I should go for it or not waste my time and just upgrade. Thanks!- 12 replies

Hello, I'm having a very first world problem right now. I was originally going to get a ryzen 1600x but I then realized the 1600 can overclock basically just as well, and it's a better price. But now the R 1700 is $84 off (CAD) and it's just above the i5 8600k. So what should I do. Wait for the $340 i5 8600k to become in stock, get the $350 1700 ($85 off) or the $235 R 1600 ($65 off). It's all in Canadian Dollars. I appreciate any reply.

So basically, I'm in the market for a new mobo, and I need some opinions. I have~350 AUD (345 CAD) and $105 is taken up by memory (I am currently on Corsair Vengeance DDR3). This leaves me with 245 AUD. I want a Mobo that has the latest features. (SLI, M.2 Nvme, U.2, Sata Express), it needs to be Z170, Socket 1151, at least ATX (can be E-Atx), and have good overclocking. I don't mind if it has DDR3 memory (this will free the budget up to the full 350) and i would like a large number of PCIe slots, preferably 16x. I have been looking at this: https://www.computeralliance.com.au/gigabyte-s1151-e-atx-ga-z170x-soc-force-ddr4-motherboard?s=0&gclid=Cj0KEQjwnPLKBRC-j7nt1b7OlZwBEiQAv8lMLJ4P-BzsxtzVdjpbva-6xoE_qSykFaVAAQuua9aHatEaAvz68P8HAQ The main reason i have not got this is because Computer Alliance is not very well trusted. If I can get this mobo, I will, even though i would have to save up more for memory. My second choice is this: https://www.mwave.com.au/product/asrock-fatal1ty-z270-gaming-k6-lga-1151-atx-motherboard-ab94329 Is this a good choice, or is there something better I'm missing? And would I need a new OS because I am replacing the mobo? (I still have the original install disc) Thx Current Specs: i5-6600k Asus B150 Pro Gaming D3 Gtx 960 4gb (planned upgrade to Gtx 980ti SLI) 16gb Corsair DDR3 (if upgraded, 8gb LPX corsair DDR4) Litpower 550w

Hello beautiful Linus Tech Tips community & how is everybody doing! As you will be able to tell from my question in a moment, I am not expert when it comes to Cryptocurrencies. I have trades stocks and done well, but I've never bought/sold Cryptocurrencies. Now, if I were to purchase Ripple and decided to sell it the next week for instance, can I just unload/dump it like a stock, or does there have to be a Seller wanting to buy my Ripple currencies? https://coinmarketcap.com/all/views/all/ Ripple has the 3rd largest Market Cap, and its value is below 25 dollar cents. I understand there are different sites, like online stock brokers, that will allow you to buy/sell Cryptocurrencies, but I don't seem to find one that sells Ripple and has an actual phone # to call. Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone, Recently, my family has been complaining about the slow WiFi. My own PC is connected by ethernet, so I never felt bothered. However, the WiFi is indeed slow and annoying. I thought the problem was with the ISP (Rogers in Canada) provided modem/router. After some research, I concluded that the router I have is crap because Rogers would much rather have me pay extra for the good stuff. Now, I'm in the market for a router. I'm not sure whether I should buy a wireless router (such as ASUS RT-AC68U) or an access point (such as Ubiquiti Unifi 802.11ac PRO). Even with all the research I'm doing, I'm still pretty confused as to the differences and which I should consider. So, I've come to the LTT community for help. Any product suggestions are welcome. Links to Canadian retailers of said product suggestion are even more welcome. Here are some details about me and my home: - Small 2 bedroom apartment in a very crowded building (lots of apartments around me and thus, lots of other wifi signals) - 3 smartphones, 2 laptops, 1 tablets, 1 Nintendo 3DS, 1 smart TV, and 1 desktop PC (note: TV and desktop are connected by ethernet) - All my devices are compatible with N wireless. Only 2 smartphones and one laptop are compatible with AC wireless. The 3DS is only compatible with B/G wireless. - The Rogers modem/router is located right in the middle of the apartment. It is placed right under the TV and cannot be relocated anywhere. This is due to the fact that Rogers uses cable for providing internet. - My internet package is 35Mbps down and 3Mbps down. - There are no WiFi deadzones in my apartment, but the signal is terrible in most rooms. The worst signal is in my dad's little work den, which is right behind the kitchen (there are 2 walls between the den and the router) - I have a very long and complicated password for my WiFi. Also, I can see that no other devices other than my own are connected. - I don't want to spend more than $250 dollars. The examples I mentioned above (the Asus and Ubiquiti) are just under my budget. - My preferred retailers are Amazon.ca and Bestbuy.ca. If you need any more information, please ask. I will try to reply back as soon as possible. Thank you all very much. I'm looking forward to the replies.

Since I can't find them for brand new I'm assuming that Nvidia don't manufacture them anymore. Should I trust the strangers on eBay or do you guys have any other purchasing options? (I'm British)
