LAST UPDATE: 1/5/2015 As you guys all know, a lot of people request what kind of laptop to purchase in this "Mobile Devices" category. So, I thought it would be a good idea to make an one-stop location to find what laptops to buy. I am hoping that this post will be very helpful down the road! Naturally, I don't know all the good laptops, and I am not an expert, so please help me by suggesting laptops that go under each category. I plan to organize this by screen size, then purpose, then price, and then other specifics. I also need help to decide what the most effective organization method is. Let's get this started! *Links and prices are US, I'll prob add others when I find the time/need to *All “prices” are those that are listed on the OEM’s websites [or Amazon, if the OEM doesn't provide it] and may not be the cheapest SCREEN SIZE

Basically my friend is offering me his PC, and a bunch of peripherals for $550, I already have a much more powerful PC of my own, but I was thinking of using his as a LAN box/ Server. His specs (he had it built through CyberPowerPC): CPU: AMD FX-6300 (stock cooler) Mobo: Gigabyte 970 something or other RAM: 8GB 1600mhz Corsair Vengeance GPU: EVGA GT 620 2gb HDD: Seagate 1TB PSU: Visiontek 800w semi-modular Case: Raidmax Viper GX ODD: generic CD/DVD-R This also includes: -Razer Deathstalker Expert -Razer Kraken Pro 7.1 -Azio Levetron mouse -ASUS 1080p monitor So all of the above for $550. Good deal? Or nah? Also does anyone have any ideas of what I could use this stuff for? Besides Folding @ Home and a LAN Rig. I was also thinking of selling the CPU, GPU, and MoBo and buying a Pentium K, an itx MoBo, putting in my old 550ti and putting it all in a RVZ01.

Hello Guys, i'm new here, and honestly could not find a search tool on the forum so I do not know if this has been asked before, its a pretty specific question so i don't think so, anyway im building a gaming PC, nothing too fancy here is the list of parts, I cannot buy these parts in my country due to the cost being 3x what you see in amazon. Im from Colombia. The point is im visiting the united States on this holiday more specifically Orlando Florida, and i was wondering if any of you guys knows any stores there where i can go and purchase any of these parts while im there, since i'm not from around town in Orlando i would appreciate if you could add an address or a Google maps link that i can follow. here is the list of parts that I would like to buy while im there, the rest of the parts I either already have bought them and had them shipped here from outside the country or I am still saving for them. Samsung 840 EVO 250GB Seagate ST3000DM001 Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Gelid Solutions GC-Extreme Thank you in advance and i'm sorry for any misspells, English isn't my native tongue.

When looking for the right mouse, all of the various terms can be confusing. Some mice have an "optical" sensor. What does that mean? What do you mean "claw grip?" This thread is to help you out. First, when buying a mouse, consider your budget. Some high-end gaming mice can hit $100+ US dollars and often cost more in places like Europe or far-off countries where shipping is expensive. Second, observe the grip you use when holding a mouse. There's 3 main kinds - Fingertip, Claw and Palm. Often people will use a hybrid of these sorts. Here's what each one looks like using my small hands and Logitech M500. These details are how I recommend that you approach buying a mouse. If you have any question or comments about all the information, want a mouse recommendation or the like, feel free to leave such things below. If you spotted something I missed or said incorrectly, you can correct me (and find some sort of link with info about it too please). Thanks! (credit to @atavax and @woll3 for info stuff)

Hi all, This question is pretty much aimed at just UK LTT members but anyone else who has any insight on this feel free to reply. So I have lived in the UK for 2 years now but have not had the funds nor the time to build a system till now. My question is where are good and reputable places to buy my components from? I have bought hard drives from Scan.co.uk before and I am a frequent user of Amazon but I know that there are more sites out there which would but I just don't know which ones are good and which ones aren't. I could just buy all my parts from Amazon but I find that they usual have higher prices than other retailers. Thanks in advance for any replies. Llama

Hey Guys and Girls, I'm currently looking at buying the Crossover 290m 21:9 monitor ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/CrossOver-290M-LG-IPS-LED-2560x1080-QHD-DVI-D-21-9-cineview-29-Computer-Monitor-/221514810120 ) for christmas, however I'm not sure what to do. I currently have this HP w1907 ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c00916924 ) and am looking at upgrading to the crossover 290m linked above. I am currently running my external monitor off of a mid 2013 macbook pro. Currently my mac runs things just fine as long as i don't have the settings above medium and turn all shadows off. What I'm wondering is will it be worth buying the monitor now and running it off my mac or should i just wait until i have bought my pc which I know will be able to run it. Tl;Dr I want to know if my Macbook Pro with a 2.5ghz intel i5 and 4gb of ram will be able to power this monitor ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/CrossOver-290M-LG-IPS-LED-2560x1080-QHD-DVI-D-21-9-cineview-29-Computer-Monitor-/221514810120 ) or should i wait until i get a pc? Thanks in advance everyone, Hodge

I'm planning to finally buy a mechanical keyboard during the holidays. Although I have never had a mechanical keyboard I have tried all of the common MX switches at the local NCIX store and I decided to go with an MX brown switch. The only problem is that I still don't know what keyboard I should get and I know there are a lot out there so it would be awesome if you guys suggest me ones suitable for what I'm about to tell you. I'm planning to use this keyboard for a good 10+ years (hopefully), I do not one that will lose some of its functions within a few years. I am planning to use this keyboard for typing and gaming and just general computer use. I do NOT have a tight budget, as long as the keyboard has great quality I will gladly pay. I honestly don't mind paying more if it means it will not only be of higher quality but will also last me longer. I really want one that will be consistently solid. I am learning German and would also like to have programmable keys for them or a keyboard with no lettering on them so I can switch from different layouts. I would prefer customizable backlit keys, dedicated media keys (especially a volume knob), USB 3.0 ports, and any other nice features. My current plans are to go for the das Keyboard 4 Ultimate with MX brown switches because of the no lettering, the full layout including the number pad, USB 3.0 ports, volume knob, and most importantly its sheer number of reviews on how good the quality of the keyboard is. My other idea was to buy a Corsair backlit keyboard with those programmable keys so I can type the German characters with slight ease however I have heard countless reports of broken/dying LED's and I am not sure whether the new RGB keyboards they released has 100% solved the problem. If anyone has solid information on whether or not there will be a chance of the LED's dying please let me know. ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED!

so as you can see in my system below my 280x got a little bit underpowered for what i have here especially in bf4 i have problems because the new patch destroyed mantle and on direct x i have to play at 85% scaling and on mid settings. so with new games like star citizen coming soon i think its time for an upgrade. but what would be the best way. my psu should be good enough to handle a crossfire but if i dont want to i have a friend that would by my gpu for 200€ (i originally spend 290€). my options are: crossfire with: 180€ asus 280 210€ xfx 285 170€ asus 270x sell and buy: 350€ gigabyte 970 320€ asus 780 285€ xfx 290 300€ gigabyte 290 i could do one of these or wait for 900 series price drop or r9 300 series. if you have other ideas feel free to tell me thanks for your help

hey guys, I am looking to pick up 2 980's and I live in canada which is a rather large problem considering they cost near 100 more here than in the US. I am wondering if there is a pc part's store somewhat like an ncix or memory express just south of the bc border. I live in Vancouver and would rather not have to drive all the way to seattle so please let me know if you have any ideas (preferably in blain or bellingham) thanks so much

My current specs: CPU: AMD A8-3870 APU GPU: GeForce 9400 GT (so this will be upgraded) Hard disc: ST500DM002-1BD142 ATA Device Power supply: 500W (≈420W max power) Mainboard: GA-A55M-DS2

I have bought two different ASRock (Z87 PRO3 and Z87 Extreme4) motherboards and they have both been DOA. So I am done with this company. I was wondering what motherboard I should be getting and why. I have; CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K Quad-Core Desktop Processor 3.5 GHZ 8 MB Cache GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX760 w/EVGA ACX Cooler 2GB GDDR5 256bit RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 32 GB Kit (4x8 GB) 2400MHz DDR3 I really need the motherboard to be compatible with those because I have already gone through returning my old RAM and getting a new set because the first motherboard wasn't working. Color Scheme: Black and Purple So I'm looking for all black or mostly black Anything that goes with black and purple would be fine Budget: About $150 Going a little over is okay Going under is even better but I want quality over saving money I would like to do some over clocking. I was told to get GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD3H which looking at it would go really well with my color scheme But the person who told me to get it was talking about pricing so I don't know if this is the best quality for my dollar. Thank you for your help.

Hey, I have a Mid-Range Gaming rig with a Thermaltake 500W OEM PSU. I know, it's terrible, but I was on a tight budget. However, looking at the specs of it on the Thermaltake website, I found that it isn't actually 500W. It has a 500W Peak, and a 400W Max output. Which means that I am pulling more power than my PSU is capable of. So I need to buy a new PSU ASAP. I was looking around at Corsair, but I thought I might ask for some recommendations from you guys. I want 700W+ (Real 700W, not peak! I want to spend $130 or less, I will probably be buying from pccasegear.com.au Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

I want to know what people think are the best gaming laptops in this price range, in terms of raw power, I don't care about weight, or size, but if you think you know a laptop like what I've described, respond with the laptop, and why it's great --thanks

Hi Everyone, I've recently been given by a friend who is now going to university a computer with some really nice parts (coming to about £4000 in total) for a much lower price <£1000. However, I really want to build a new, slightly smaller, air cooled computer and so want to sell it for about a £100-£500 profit, does anyone know any place I could sell it? I've tried eBay and Amazon to no success sadly, Many Thanks, cjsun9

Urgent need for help selecting a laptop for college!
Jake Dalay posted a topic in Phones and Tablets
Hello everyone! I go back to college in August, and I need a new laptop! (probably will need to have the laptop by mid July) I am on a tight budget of around $600. For that price I need: back-lit keys, a numberpad, RAM expandable to 8GB, a 15.6" form factor, either windows 7 or 8, and preferably actual right and left buttons on the trackpad. HDD size doesn't matter (On my gaming PC, I use around 220GB most of which is games), and I will likely upgrade with either a 128GB mSATA SSD in the future or a 2.5" 128GB SSD. (so yes, please consider upgrade-ability in your responses!) touchscreens are a plus but are NOT necessary to me even with windows 8 Please help me to find a system that fits the bill, the PC wont need to do any gaming at all, or much more than general workloads, so I figure an i3 would be more than enough. From what I hear, Haswell wont be available in my price range until the holiday season, so I believe I won't be able to get my hands on a Haswell laptop, though if I could that would be my choice. Based on what I have found, the Lenovo U510 with a core i5 looks good to me, but if anyone has had this model I would certainly appreciate your input, and furthermore, most U510's are over budget anyway. Again, my need to select a laptop is urgent, and I really appreciate your help and recommendations!
