Hi, I am a Ph.D. student in live sciences, and I need to analyze large datasets produced by NGS (next-generation sequencing). I use Ubuntu for convenience and community support. R and Python are the main languages that I use, and objects that we are working on are reaching 70-100 GB (in the future, I probably need more). And some packages require raw data to work with, in these cases it requires to use 32-64 threads and >256GB ram. And, some other packages require high-end GPU (with ram and compute power). Since lots of packages and tools are in constant development, there is a constant flow of errors, and some of them require administrator privileges to fix them. For this reason, I cannot use shared server space (most of the time, response time and solutions are too slow for this kind of work). Some of my colleagues solved their problem by getting a high-end workstation. Our IT department requested for me to come up with a list. Since my tech-savvy is limited to upgrading the SSD on my laptop, I want to ask for your recommendations and opinions. I think these are what I need; high thread CPU (>=64) high/reasonable fast RAM (ideally 512 gb) High-capacity storage for passive files (HDD min 20 TB) Fast storage for active projects (nvme SSD type min 4 TB) support for multiple Nvidia GPU support for 10 gigabits ethernet speed Thanks in advance for your time, input, and opinions. -

Hello! First-time poster, long-time watcher. After years of only using MacBooks basically for work, I am looking to build a gaming PC and my budget is ~€3000. The main goal here is to get something that can run AAA games without a problem and do some photo editing. I would like something that can last for some years without having to upgrade every X months or that reaches bottlenecks. I was thinking mainly about changing the CPU to a Ryzen 9 7950X3D and the power supply to 1000W but happy to know your thoughts based on your experience! I'm not interested in RGB or fancy colours, I prefer to invest in performance and longevity. Also, the shop has recommended air cooling the machine as it has less points of failure and less maintenance is needed.

They would like to make the purchase at the end of this week. I have this build which I started 3y ago but changed basically everything of it to this point, besides the CPU. Currently, it has this very weird problem of turning off when I punch my desk and sometimes it doesnt want to turn on again with all my RAM sticks connected, I have to remove 2 of them to make it work. The computer is completely usable without it as I have 64gb of Corsair Dominator on it, the 64gb was mostly to play Cities Skylines as it is a very intensive game. I am starting to think it is a problem with the CPU, as I had a similar problem, but not to this extent, with my previous mobo, a B550 from ASUS. Current setup (yes, I am aware the bottleneck of this build is my cpu but I was meant to sell it to a friend to get a 5800X3D but he backed off) * Asus prime X570 * AMD 5600X * MSI 4070ti * Corsair PSU 750w gold * 4x16gb Corsair Dominator 3600 DDR4 (this is another problem as well as I have never managed to get them to work at 3600, 3200 was the only semi stable speed I could put them on) * Noctua NH-US12 Chromax Most of the cables are less than 9 mo old, inc PSU, case cables and fan cables, but doubt those would short circuit something that would restart my pc. Do you guys think this is a problem with the CPU (ive seen some reddit topics that this CPU has some issues with memory, but couldnt pinpoint anything)?

Hello, I’m making a new build for my sister and I’m having an issue with the USB 2.0 connection to the motherboard. The motherboard only has 1 USB 2.0 header and it has 4 pins (USB_9), whereas the cable for the front panel 2xUSB 2.0 has 9 pins. Is it ok if I plug the cable in the 4 pin header, leaving the other 5 unused? The motherboard is an Asus Prime H610M-K ARGB DDR5.

Hello I bought the NZXT H6 Flow RGB that includes 3 of their 120mm ARGB fans and i noticed that it required 5V 3 Pin ARGB headers but my motherboard does not have them. I then went to search up about it and found the deepcool SC790, it has PWM + ARGB headers My question is will the ARGB work with this PWM + ARGB hub if i dont have any ARGB headers on my motherboard because it does get powered by SATA but to control fan speeds i still need to connect it to the motherboard with the included cable according to the manual. The manual also says that i need to connect the included 3 pin cable to the ARGB header on my motherboard (which i dont have). If i dont connect the 3 pin cable will it still show RGB on the fans? and would i be able to control the rgb? Or would i have to buy a seperate controller? And if i do need to buy anything extra please provide links that i can look at MANUAL:

People say I should get a lesser costly cooler but I dont know how to make sure what im getting is quality 2. I do not know what motherbord to go with, I Went to microcenter he reccomended me the ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming WiFi. But everyone seems to have mixed reviews about it and its worrying me so far LTT.com forums and responses have been the best most useful responses ive gotten, thank you all.

Hey guys, I wanted to get your input on the build I have planned out for my company's main video workstation. If you notice any strange shortcomings/problems in the pcpartpicker list, please do me a favor and provide some feedback. I have a few questions in mind: - Does Adobe Premiere Pro (my main editing suite atm) still prefer higher clock speed over more CPU cores? - Should I opt for DDR5-6000 (192GB) or DDR5-8000 (96GB) options? - I need max transfer speeds for the usb ports at the front of the case. Do you have any case recommendations? I am no specialist when it comes to PC Builds, although I know some bits here and there. Really appreciate your guys' input :-) 1. Budget & Location I am from germany and planning to buy from mindfactory, since it's a german company as well. I am open for buying suggestions tho. 2. Aim Heavy Video editing workflows (8k R3D files, 8k ProRes 422 files, stereoscopic editing, 360 stitching, Colour Grading and editing in Premiere Pro, After Effects, Davinci Resolve and occasional Mocha Pro tracking, h265 decoding) 3D-animation in Blender and (occasionally) SideFX Houdini 3. Monitors Currently 2 monitors @4k60 each. Not planning to have higher Hertz numbers, since color accuracy is important for me. Might add a third display @4k60 4. Peripherals Im good for peripherals atm. 5. Why are you upgrading? Really hitting rock bottom with my 64GB Ram RTX2060 AMD Ryzen 9 3950x rn.
