I started to notice a problem a few minutes ago. Whenever I launch bluestacks it automatically changes my computers brightness to "suggested" from 30%. I don't know if this is the intended behavior, or if this is a bug related to creators update or bluestacks. So far this issue only seems to happen when using bluestacks. I have not noticed this behavior with any other software. I have read suggestions that this may be caused by intels graphic properties, but the SP4 is using custom display drivers I believe. Anyway I could narrow this issue down further? Surface Pro 4 Windows 10 Pro v. 1703 Build 15063.296

I just want to use my computer like the average person, play some games, and edit some videos. I have 1 question however, How many nits are enough nits for a monitor?

Okay, so I'll preface this by saying that I totally get it in the case of HDR monitors, where their whole point is that different sections of the monitor are at different brightnesses. However... As the title suggests... I really, really don't understand why monitor reviews (and monitor specs, and so forth) and only ever mention a monitor's maximum brightness. Sure, if you're going to be using the monitor for content creation under a dozen fluorescent lights anyways, then maybe that's all that matters. But surely I'm not alone in being a gamer who plays mostly at night, and has all of his screens turned down to minimum brightness? I want reviews to start at least mentioning how dim a monitor can get, plus associated side effects. Dozens of monitors on the market have serious issues at low brightness; my iiyama howls like a banshee because of coil whine in the PSU whenever it's below 50% brightness. Other monitors I've tried have a minimum brightness that's still enough to illuminate an entire room completely and hurt your eyes at night. Are all reviewers people who sleep with their overhead lights on? I just don't understand. What are your guys' thoughts on this? Am I just a crazy person, or does this issue bother you too? How many of you use your screens at the dimmest setting possible?

I'm curious what the community thinks. --- For me, I'll go with IPS, even at expense of a lower frame rate. Yes, a TN can probably game better, but I wouldn't sacrifice streaming, creative apps and overall enjoyment of in-game colors. Brightness doesn't matter much, unless there's window light coming in. My 250 nt brightness monitor at peak brightness was more than enough for me. Built-in speakers are unnecessary because I don't use cheap speakers. 4K would be great eventually, but I'm not spending an extra 1000 on gear for an incremental boost. Bezels don't need to be super small, but I don't like them large.

Hello! I was referred to this forum by my brother (I am an avid watcher of LTT media myself) and I wanted to see if I could produce any results from the community. My laptop specs: -Gigabyte Aero 14 v6 (mfg. date November 2016) -i7-6700HQ @2.6 GHz -GTX 1060 (laptop SKU, duh) -16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz RAM -512 GB m.2 SATA SSD -Windows 10 Professional 64-bit (OS was reinstalled in May) I bought this laptop from someone on eBay who had used it for a week. When I received it, the battery life was atrocious (especially for a 94 Wh battery) so I RMAd it and the motherboard was replaced due to a faulty battery controller. But when I received it, the laptop would suddenly crash at random (15 minutes to an hour after being turned on), going to a black screen and forcing me to hard reset. Once the school year finished I reinstalled the OS from a bootable USB drive and I had to reinstall my drivers. I have not had any crashing issues as of now (September), but when I reinstalled the Intel HD graphics driver, the laptop is always on max brightness on startup (even higher than the brightness slider can adjust to). I have tried reverting to previous versions with no avail. Any suggestions? (I have attached a picture of what happened once after a crash issue) IMG_2836.JPG 2.2 MB

Hey guys, I recently got a new laptop (an ASUS GL502VM) shortly before Linus actually did a review of its bigger brother. Recently though, I have found that I havent been able to change the brightness at all and I was wondering if you guys had any ideas. I had installed f.lux, so I had thought that might have been the problem, but I unadded it from my chrome browser and I still had the same problem. Any help would be appreciated, Brendan P.S: Here's the newegg link https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834234455

Hello Forum, I would like to get in the know how on how to setup your in Game Brightness settings, As we all know most games have the "adjust the slider until 'X' image is barely visable. I never know if this means the logo his completely hidden or you can see the shadow or barely make it out. not to mention having to change your monitor brightness aswell. does anyone have any info? cheers. Picture for demonstration purposes. "As you can see the far left logo is "barely visable". does it have to be completely unseen or? I'm sure most of you don't even bother with in game brightness anyway. thanks in advance.

Hello, I got an issue with my laptop that I haven't been able to get fully rid of and it's leaving me clueless. The issue is that despite having it turned off in Power Options, Intel Graphics Control Panel and in the Registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intel\Display\igfxcui\profiles\Media\Brighten/Darken Movie\ProcAmpBrightness set to 0), my display still keeps adjusting brightness quite notibly. It's noticed when switching from something bright like my browser which most of the time has a white background, back to the Desktop which has a darker background. I'm trying to find out where else there are more settings affecting this but so far I have no idea. Anyone else having experience with this and maybe how to solve it? Specs for convenience: MSI GE72 2QC with Windows 10 Home x64 Build 14393, Intel 5700HQ with Intel HD Graphics 5600.

Hi there, I have a viewsonic vp3268-4k monitor and I am trying to run some calibrations on it with an EIZO sensor. Is there any way to get the sensor to auto calibrate? It seems like the monitor does not allow for control over its hardware brightness from the software. Thanks!

So, i have a problem. Based on the content on my screen, the brightness/contrast of the picture changes automatically. Since i have one Benq and one Dell Monitor, it´s quite unrealistic that this is some kind of a monitor or display driver setting. I´m not quite sure when this started and haven´t found a solution yet. I saw other people having the same problem, but nobody seems to have found a solution. I tried changing the windows power setting - nothing, and when i tried to uncheck the Adaptive Brightness Box inside the Nvidia Driver, i noticed, that I don´t have the option either. I also checked for weird programs inside task manager and didn´t find anything suspicious.. This is really really annoying and I hope somebody can help me. -Greetings from Berlin, Germany Specs: i5 7600K, MSI Z270 Gaming-Pro Carbon, KFA2 NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX1060.

Hi Maybe I'm missing something here but it seems like on the current version of Windows 10 (1903 & 1909) I cannot find any way to adjust brightness for desktop PCs. The option is there alright on laptops and tablets but on all my desktop PCs it looks like it has been replaced by "automatic brightness adjustment" or something like that. Did I miss something? I know I can control brightness from the monitor itself (via the OSD settings) but I find this somewhat inconvenient. Why would MS remove the ability to adjust brightness in windows for desktop PCs? Thank you very much in advance for your input. Best, -a-

Hey guys, I just got a refurbished dell 9570 as a warranty replacement from a dell 9560, and I noticed something weird, when I have something on the screen that is darker, the overall screen brightness lowers, like you tube on dark mode, dark mode discord, etc. But when I then switch to something bright, you can tell the screen overall has lost brightness, and it takes a few seconds for the brightness to come back up again. I even measured a white screen with a light meter and it varies from about 420 cd/m^2 to only 200. is there some kind of setting causing this? Thanks

ubuntu Broken Ubuntu Brightness
Stentorian posted a topic in Linux, macOS and Everything Not-Windows
The other night I turned my brightness down on my HP EliteBook 2540P running Ubuntu 18.10 as seen here: I have recently tried to turn up the brightness again and it does not go above a certain level leaving the brightness stuck on low. I have read many articles online and none of them have helped. I can't really reinstall Ubuntu all together as I don't have a spare USB Stick and I have a lot of information on this laptop that cannot be lost. Here is a screenshot of the level it gets stuck at: If you can provide any help please do in the comments. It really is painful trying to squint to see the monitor. Thanks in advance! EDIT: I have checked for the latest updates and nothing is pending according to Ubuntu! -
i wanted to make a bash script that ran when i hit the brightness keys on my keyboard to lower and raise the brightness. i am new to bash scripting so try to keep it simple my jank script #!/bin/bash var=$(cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness) echo $var var= expr $var - 100 destdir=/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness sudo echo "$var" >> "$destdir". i get a permissions error on the last line every time

Hey LTT community, I have a dual monitor setup (1x BenQ GL2760 and 1x ASUS VH236H [main]). I logged on about 4 days ago and my displays are suddenly, wildly different. My ASUS monitor is dimmed down a ton and it feels like it has an annoying-yet-barely-noticeable warm tone to it (awful for gaming). My BenQ monitor is SUPER bright (Even with monitor brightness setting now at 0) with some really washed out high gamma look to it (also the icons and text are smaller now?). When I unplug them and plug them back in, they go back to normal for a brief second and then back to these hellish settings. I was able to make them bearable yesterday by taking over some settings with the Nvidia control panel, but today I logged on and they reset back. I can barely look at this screen to type this it's so bright. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Nvidia drivers, using calibration tool (resets after restart), using Nvidia control panel settings (resets after restart), and looking for settings in my BIOS and I couldn't find anything with my limited knowledge. I've recently transferred 3 hard drives into a new AMD build from an Intel build. 1x SSD with my Win 10 Pro (64bit) OS, 1x HDD with some pictures, and 1x New M.2 SSD which I load games onto. Is Windows or something else forcing these settings? How do I uninstall Windows updates to test if that's the issue? I'm open to any other suggestions before doing a complete wipe and reinstall of everything. Thanks! System specs are: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Mobo: ASUS Prime X470-Pro RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200 GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070 ti OS: Win 10 Pro (64bit) [got from a friend who is no longer in the industry... would like to keep if possible] Monitors: ASUS VH236H [main], BenQ GL2760 [secondary]

I just bought an asus VP249QGR and it is my first 144hz monitor and I am used to maxing out the brightness of my previous monitors(cheap TN ones with a reso of 1366x768). I am now torn apart if I should max out the brightness since I saw a forum though it was quite old, dating back at 2009, saying that it shortens the lifespan of the back light. Is it still applicable to todays monitors? Can I max out my monitors brightness? P.S. I really want to lengthen the lifespan of this monitor since it is not really that cheap for me

any one have an idea as to how to adjust the timeout on the sb2 keyboard backlight? as far as i can tell, there is no software out of the box, and, i am unsure, without taking the thing apart (something i'm not willing to do to a £2000+ device), weather it is software controlled, like rgb on desktops, or fan rpm, or if it is hardware based, like a 555 timer ic?

Hi, looking for an upgrade to my monitor, been using 2 of them for the past few years. They are Acer - G236HLBbd 23.0" 1920x1080 60Hz Monitor and BenQ - XL2411 24.0" 1920x1080 144Hz Monitor. I do gaming and abit of content creation as a side job on the BenQ while the Acer is used a extra space to keep stuff open. Thought of getting the Asus ROG Swift PG27UQ to replace my Acer but it's a massive $3500 SGD (Singapore). Now looking for a content creation monitor. Preferably 4k no more than 27.0" coz of space. Unless there's a good hybrid monitor to replace both monitor. For the hybrid, response time don't matter but I would like a G-Sync. Using a 1080ti and i7-8700k and 32G Ram for your reference.

Hi, i've just bought an asus gl703ge freeDOS and win10 home FPP separately. When I installed the OS and all the updates, including the latest driver for the 1050ti, I found out that the brightness adjustment buttons (fn + f7/f8) are not working, also tried it without pressing the fn button, same result. I did not install nvidia geforce experience nor the rog gaming center (don't know where to get it) because I want to keep it bloatware-free. Gaming will not be my primary usage for this laptop, if ever. Also tried the Device manager driver updates (links below), still nothing. https://visihow.com/Restore_Lost_Brightness_Control_app_in_ASUS_Laptops_After_Updating https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/solved-windows-10-brightness-control-not-working/ This is very important to me, so please help. Thank you

Hey guys, I'm currently looking at the Acer Helios 300 from Amazon, and the problem of that laptop seems to be the screen brightness. It tops out at 250 nits. I don't have an idea how bright that is, but reviewers say that it's pretty dim and insufficient. What I have with me right now is a 2015 Macbook Air 11". I want to use this laptop for testing purposes to know if 250 nits is sufficient for my gaming needs. My MBA tops out at 370 nits, and has 16 levels of brightness. Putting it to 10 bars of brightness would probably be the closest to 250 nits if the brightness level is linear and divisible. But I'm not so sure about that. I have no other tool to use to get me to 250 nits. I also can't rely on website vision tests to get 250 nits, since my eyesight is not the best. If you guys know how many bars should I put my brightness level on, to get an approximate 250 nits on my MBA, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Since OLED pixel can be individually lit wouldn't it also be possible to light up the pixels in different brightness much like the BFD (i believe that there are individual panels that can have a different brightness) from Nvidia. You would for example have a spot on the display where the sun is blinding you and on the other side the shadows perfectly dark much like in real life.
