I will be adding networking to my garage that is like 30-50ft away. I've heard direct burial rj45 is not advised as lightning/etc can damage all the equipment, so i have two options i could do [and am willing to do, to stay within unifi, which i'm comfortable with], and I'm curious which you all would choose OF these two. (also a question or two in red.) Option 1: Main house router (already have in house basement) - UDM PRO (Q1) Fiber, Direct attach cable (30m, to connect UDM PRO to Switch in garage) - https://store.ui.com/us/en/pro/category/accessory-tech-cabling/collections/accessories-pro-direct-attach-cables/products/10-gbps-active-optical-cable?variant=uacc-aoc-sfp10-30m (Q2) Housing/protection for the buried fiber - ??? (I hear people use "smooth wall", but i don't know if a individual consumer can buy that without paying extraordinaire amounts; is there anything yall would recommend? i hear flexible pvc (schedule 40) won't stop water from going through, so i assume that's not good for fiber. Switch for in garage (where majority of devices will be connected) - https://store.ui.com/us/en/pro/category/all-switching/products/usw-pro-24-poe (Q3) I assume not, but do i need one of these Optical Module's, for the UDM pro and Switch's SFP ports? (Or no, since the cable above says "SFP+ to SFP+ connector") - https://store.ui.com/us/en/pro/category/switching-addons/collections/accessories-pro-long-distance-modules/products/1-gbps-bidirectional-single-mode-optical-module or https://store.ui.com/us/en/pro/category/switching-addons/collections/accessories-pro-long-distance-modules/products/1-gbps-multi-mode-optical-module ? Option 2: Main house router (already have in house basement) - UDM PRO Building bridge - https://store.ui.com/us/en/pro/category/all-wifi/products/ubb ethernet surge protector - https://store.ui.com/us/en/pro/category/wifi-building-bridge/products/ethernet-surge-protector Switch for in garage (where majority of devices will be connected) - https://store.ui.com/us/en/pro/category/all-switching/products/usw-pro-24-poe I assume option 1 will be cheaper, the fiber cable isn't that expensive, and unless the shielding/protection it needs in the ground is crazy expensive, i assume it would be cheaper but more manual labor intensive than option 2. I was worried about latency with the building bridge, but on videos i saw they were only getting like 5ms which mine is about the same. Please, Help me with Q1/Q2/Q3 please, and which option would be recommended between the two options, i would greatly appreciate it. Please understand, I am only slightly network literate, and that i would like to stay inside the unifi ecosystem, even if i'm paying more.

There's a decent line of sight gap in the forest, about 200m from mounting positions, with very low brush coverage that won't be expected to obstruct it. Semi-rural, so not really worried about interference. I found this article: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/08/point-to-point-wi-fi-bridging-between-buildings-the-cheap-and-easy-way/ and am leaning towards a pair of CPE210 because it'll be <$120 total shipped, and comes with the PoE injectors. https://www.tp-link.com/us/business-networking/outdoor-radio/cpe210/#specifications But they're a few years old - is there a Only aiming for 50Mbps - this is upgrading a 6Mbps connection that runs from a neighbours property who is refusing to allow an upgrade to run on the same poles. The receiver will be out in the open, and this is in the rainforest in BC. I have no idea if IPX5 is sufficient. This is an install for a friend who is not technically inclined, so reliability and cost are the most important factors. Any suggestions for mounting brackets that will make it easy to aim? The transmitter will be about 20m above the receiver so we'll have to aim them at an angle.

Ok so I am planning to buy the tplink er605 to connect the wans from my 2 isps together, but I have a doubt. One can my deco access points be kept in router mode when connected to the lan? Perhaps set the connection type to dynamic ip? Also if not how are the QOS and other features on omada compared to deco? Also can the wan connection types on the er605 be if different types as one of my isps lets my install my own router while ke restricts me to theirs. Shouldn’t be an issue if I can connect the router to one ISp in pppoe mode and one in dynamic ip. look at latest response

Hello, I am trying to setup bridged network for qemu VMs, but can't make to work it correctly. if i setup bridged network via network manager (nmtui), qemu guest VM cannot obtain an IP: /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/Wired connection 2.nmconnection: [connection] id=Wired connection 2 uuid=<uuid> type=ethernet interface-name=enp3s0 [ethernet] [ipv4] method=auto [ipv6] addr-gen-mode=default method=auto [proxy] /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/enp3s0.nmconnection i created via nmtui [connection] id=enp3s0 uuid=<uuid> type=ethernet interface-name=enp3s0 master=<uuid> slave-type=bridge [ethernet] [bridge-port] If I setup bridged network via /etc/network/interfaces.d/ it does work in both host and guest vm, but in host system: Network manager DE GUI show " no connection" pc is connected to internet via bridged network br0 (and as result do not receive static IP configured for enp3s0 MAC-addresse. enp3s0 interface is listed as unmanaged /etc/network/interfaces.d/br0 (created via cli) ## DHCP ip config file for br0 ## auto br0 # Bridge setup iface br0 inet dhcp bridge_ports enp3s0 How is possible to create bridged interface working in qemu guest systems and host system connection stay managed and show up in Network Manager DE GUI?

At the moment I have an Honor 7x with a built-in WiFi birdge functionality. I find it very handy to bridge my current WiFi so other devices can use my extended WiFi. Are you guys aware of any current phone around 300 Euros with that functionality? Thank you in advance

Hello everyone, Soo, as the topic suggests, i need some guidance on configuring Router as an Access point (if i'm correct). I'm pretty tech oriented guy, i'm not new to computers, only networking setups. So in my rented flat, i use my phone's hotspot to internet on all devices i need. So basically it's my phone, laptop, my tv, girlfriend's laptop, and that's it. And i have a problem, where whenever i turn on my tv, i basically manually have to connect to tv, because it very rarely connects to my phone's hotspot on it self to work, so i though i might put some modem/router/access point just by the tv, so it would be on the ethernet cable instead of wifi. So now i have to set up some sort of device, which would connect to my phone's hotspot as soon as i get home and it would share that internet through etherent to the tv and wi-fi to other devices like laptops and such. So 1 question, is what kind of device do i need? My best quess is access point? 2: Is it even doable that it would take internet data from wi-fi not ethernet cable as spread it out? 3: What kind of Bridge configuration terms am i looking for? 4. I found laying around Pirelli DRG A125G Router, which has lot's of bridge'ing configuration protocols, and i'm not familiar ir any of them, so what exactly i am looking for? I uploaded, a barebones picture of what kind of setup do i need if that makes anything easier? Thanks for anyone in advance who is willing to give any help and advice on this.

some context for ya- While torrenting I notice something quite weird, Task manager shows internet speeds in waves at one point it's at 70-84 Mbps, and 10 seconds its 4-5 Mbps ( Mbps, NOT MBps, I checked ) And the torrent's are DEFINITELY not the problem, This happens on every torrent. And al are quite popular with 20-30 seeds. And oh, IDK if this is the problem, but I run plex media server on this, and for a few of ma homie's I set up remote access. I had to set up port forwarding if it matters. And just yo make it clear, I am NOT asking why my speeds are much slower. I wouldn't care if it was 50 Mbps, because I know it would a recognisable/googlable issue. This is straight up weird. This happen way too often,an I have to restart PC to solve it temporarily. This computer is on 20/7, if it matters

Hi everyone, i just got the Cooler Master V750 SFX GOLD and y tried to use it with an Aorus X570I Pro Wifi to uptdate the Bios, in order to use Ryzen 5000, but when I plugged it to the motherboard with anything else connected, to update it with QFLASH, nothing happens, so i tried to test the PSU, i bridged the 4 and 5 pins of the 24pin cable and the fan did not spined. But soon after y disconnected the bridge, the fan start spinning for a second, so is the PSU dead ? pls help ty beforehand

So I am planning on using it to connect to an ac (just a normal non Ubiquiti standard isp ac/router) and connecting an ac go the ethernet end of the lbe to bridge a network. Can station ptp mode be used connect to any ac? or just some specific Ubiquiti devices? So basically I want to point this to a house and bridge the network elsewhere (I have permission to use the house owner wifi he gave me the password and I just pay a small fee)

Hi All, Is there a way to have an WD MyCloud PR4100 connect to my network wirelessly? My particular situation prohibits an physical connections to a switch or modem router, so I'm looking to see if it's possible to use a spare TP-Link TP-WA901ND to bridge a connection between the NAS and my existing router in another room so i can access my files wirelessly when I'm away from home. Thanks, Lloyd

I've heard a lot of terms thrown around while looking into this but seems to be that I'm out of my depth here with networking. (not my specialty) I have two Huawei routers. One spare from an old connection (HG8246H), and another that was set up for our wifi last week (HG8245W5). My updstairs roommates can't access the wifi so I'm trying to use the spare to set up an Access point for them with an ethernet cable. Could someone offer some help? Edit: The main issue seems to be that the WAN page doesnt show me anything and doesnt offer any options to create either

Current situation: 300 year old cottage in the UK Recently upgraded from 300Mbps FTTP to 1Gbps FTTP. The FTTP fibre cable comes into the 1st floor office, in the rear of the house. Consoles, TV, gaming PC are in the ground floor living room, in front of the house. Current constraints: Ethernet - Lengthy planning permission (Grade II listed) and a contractor would be needed. Lack the tools and expertise to drill through house foundations and clip cables across the house neatly. 100% will want a professional to do this properly. Powerline - A pair of TP-Link 2000Mbps Powerline adapters gets me 650Mbps reported in the utility and about 150Mbps in real world testing from downstairs. WiFi - My Billion BiPac 8800AXL R2 router (AC1300) gets about 100-250Mbps with real world testing on my phone in the downstairs living room. Options: Some sort of mega WiFi bridge solution Wait until the quarantine blows over and get a Cat5e or SC cable to go around the external of house from the back upstairs, to the front downstairs. My preference right now would be option 1 as nobody knows how long the quarantine will be in place for. Budget wise I'd be happy to get a WiFi bridge solution capable of a solid 1Gbps for under £300. Any ideas and thoughts on a temporary WiFi solution in the meantime?

Hello. I'm going to start of with that I'm not a network guru so I might be talking about things I have no clue on how it works. My server has 3 physical network ports and I would like to use one for the host and the other for all the VM's created in libvirt. How can this be achieved? My main network is 10.0.0.1/24, I would like the VM's to run on 10.0.1.1/24. So the plan is that the VM's are reachable by other clients and not using NAT from the host. I also use cockpit so if you know how to do it there then feel free to explain

Hi All Randomly saw some videos pop up about NVLink after I looked at support for my Rift and how people were getting amazing performance in games that I thought no longer supported multiple GPUs. Aside from a little bit of VR, I mostly play Blizzard games as I don't have as much time to just venture to others currently: Overwatch Hearthstone (obviously this one isn't important!) WoW (I believe this is actually supported and confirmed on the site) HOTS My understanding was that SLI/Crossfire no longer worked in pretty much any game apart from Wow, APEX and a smattering of others where devs were putting the time in. I know when people talk about SLI they often just refer to NVLink as SLI out of habit but if you just type "Overwatch NVLink" into Youtube there are various hits with people showing supposedly much greater Overwatch performance, even some benchmarks with 2080TIx2 vs Titansx2, though i believe I read that it wasn't supported. Does anyone know if/have any experience with this and how supported NVLink is? If it's something that will still see reasonable gains (I'm not expecting double performance etc) then for my last PC for a long time, I'd like to go with it. Many thanks!

Hey. I have a network from Xfinity and the modem is in the main part of the house and speeds are great over there. Where my room is though, the WiFi sucks ass. I have gigabit Ethernet to my room - is there anyway to take advantage of that and use a raspberry pi 3b+ as a WiFi access point for my part of the house? Preferably in a way that duplicates settings from my Xfinity modem/router combo onto the pi for seamless connections, but if not possible that's fine.

Howdy ya'll, What type of hardware runs structural analysis software the fastest? I'm a noob so please explain like I'm 5. I'm specifically curious about running Midas Civil. https://en.midasuser.com/product/civil_overview.asp Some of my complex bridge rating models take as long as 15 hours to run and produce over 100 GB of data. The record in my office is over 400 GBs for one bridge!! The computers at work are powerful-ish with i7 processors and 32 GB of memory and SSDs. If I had say $3,000 to spend could I build a machine that could cut the processing time in half? What would it look like? Would it be similar to a mining machine or 4k video editing machine? Do I need a CPU with as many cores as possible for this type of computing? This is all that Midas provided as far as system requirements. CPU Pentium IV or better performing PC processor (Pentium IV 3GHz or greater recommended) Memory (RAM) 1GB (2GB or greater recommended) HDD Space 5 GB (30GB or greater recommended) Video Memory 128 MB or greater Video Card GeForce NVIDIA type video card recommended (On-board video card is not recommended.) System RecommendationsIn general, better system will make the analysis and software performance smoother and faster. (higher memory Ram, local drive storage, etc.) There are system recommendations : System Recommendations Operating System - 64 bit operating system - If the system can handle GPU, that is even better. HDD Type SSD (Solid State Drive) Graphic Card NVIDIA G-Force Line Graphic card

Hello I was wondering if you can use your 2.4/5.0 GHz WiFi card to use the VoIP service. I want to connect directly to my Ethernet port on my FTTP modem but it only has 1 active port for 1 Ethernet connection and so is it possible to use my Ethernet and then use WiFi card as a bridge so I can keep my VoIP connected. Using WiFi Instead of Ethernet. Example Image Here

I searched about this on Google, and all over the place I found about Speedify app. I don't want to use it and there must be a way to do it manually or some other way. Can someone help me with this? I have pretty fair technical knowledge and experience so It'll not be that hard for you to teach me! Edit: I just to do this without using the Speedify/Any paid software software: https://support.speedify.com/article/260-2-wifi-pc

hoprfully i explain this properly but here goes so ive just moved into a new house (im in australia btw if that helps) and the internet from the road comes into the house in the garage and theres a second port in there aswell that goes to the kitchen. so i have one router in the garage (tplink archer vr600) taking in the fttn connection, and ive also got a server plugged directly into that router. and then ive got the other router (tplink archer vr2800) in the kitchen currently in bridge mode. ive currently got the router in the kitchen having all the devices connected to it but my problem is that i cannot access network shares etc from the server thats connected to the router in the garage. so i guess what im wanting is the have the router in the garage to act as just a modem but also share the network ports with the router in the kitchen. please let me know if you need more details or a network map or whatever

So i'm planning to move my pc from it's case to kind of a display wall where everything would be layed out on the wall. However it's current config is two 1080's in SLI. What i am wondering is if i were to lay the graphics cards on top of each other (backplate on the wall) and use pci-extensions to connect them to the MoBo, could i possibly connect them in SLI ? I've looked around and it seems the maximum length i can find off the shelf is 4-slot ribbon cables... not nearly long enough. If i were to create my own, would there be some kind of performance drop ? would it even work ? thanks in advance

Hey! I'm pretty inexperienced in building custom pc's on my own so i wanted to get some advice. I'm building a setup with two GTX 1080's. One ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme and one Gigabyte GTX 1080 Windforce OC. I'm also using an ASRock AB350 Pro4 motherboard. My question is, if i want to put those two in Sli, what bridge size should i get?
-
Another curious question of mine, if you have 2 computers on the same network that both have wifi and cat5 connections and you bridge them on both computers.... will you get faster internal speed between the 2 computers or will it just make everything get confused and have issues.

Hi all, I would like to use my pfsense machine as my router (actually just as a switch) and as a vpn server for remote access. I managed to setup a vpn service on it before and I found out how to bridge multiple LAN networks on different ethernet ports together (putting stuff in any of the 4 extra ethernet ports ends up in the same lan network 192.168.200.0 so the LAN bridging works) but i cant find out how to merge the VPN server into the LAN so that when I connect to the VPN I'm the same LAN network as my NAS that is attached to the LAN. I tried using this solution: https://www.reddit.com/r/PFSENSE/comments/3hql33/configuring_openvpn_bridge_with_local_dhcp/ Below are the settings that should bridge the VPN into the LAN but I cannot reach the VPN server. What am I doing wrong? OpenVPN server settings: Bridge settings:
