I've had my surfacebook performance edition for a while now and I have always been waiting for Microsoft to release or build in a lock for the detach button. I find it really stupid that even being in a locked state, the screen can be detached. I also want to be able to not accidentally ONE click the detach button which is so closely seated next to the internet options on the taskbar and thus detaching the screen instantly. Is there any way to software lock the screen? especially when the computer is locked. Thanks for any help!

I'm new to the forums aside from FloatPlane access so Hi everyone, second, I just bought the US Galaxy book 12" lte from verizon. Im having issue getting the HDR content to display correctly. I'm almost certain its simulating HDR but not actually decoding HDR streams much less getting access to them via netflix or youtube. There is no indication that the HDR content is being accessed when looking at the video quality option on youtube. The device its self is using the "generic pnp" monitor driver. are there any HDR testing programs out there? aside from using a colorimeter, is there any way to tell? im in contact with another user on the samsung support site as well as a twitter convo i just started with samsung_mobile_us. what is the best course of action here?!?! i want to draw some attention to this and get an actual fix to unlock HDR on this device. thanks.

So I would like someone to recommend me a beginners guide on database as the current class I have on it does not use/even list the book for the class and I would really like to know more detail. We use mySQL so any general books on databases would greatly help. Oh and if you happen to know some more advanced books/videos to check out feel free to post them

Hi guys, I was wondering if anybody has read or heard anything useful about the Surface Book's compatibility to Linux. Especially the locking mechanism and support of the half-integrated GPU seems critical to me. I do realise that this is a Microsoft device and they probably do not care about other OSs. Some people might want to run a dualboot on it anyways. Thanks for your help Roman

I've been trying to make an insurance claim on my Surface Book for the last two weeks and haven't been able to. Is anyone/has anyone been in the same boat as me? I've been told five times that I would receive a call back in 24 hours and that the issue had been escalated with no progress. They keep telling me they're having an error checking the device's eligibility, and I feel like it has something to do with the fact that the device shipped to me was defective, and when I swapped it for a working one in-store they did not move my insurance to the new device. I've since had it moved, but now they can't process my claim. What do I do now? I need my device working so I can sell my other laptop.

Update 10/20/15 New info from Hothardware shows that the custom gpu has 32 texture mapping units and 16 render output units, up from the 24 and 8 on the 940m respectively. Information from this post on reddit by user BullOak. The OP got his hands on a dGPU Surface Book at a microsoft store. Using Nvidia control panel to see the specs he obtained this: Operating System: Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit DirectX version: 12.0 GPU processor: GeForce GPU Driver version: 354.15 Direct3D API version: 12 Direct3D feature level: 11_0 CUDA Cores: 384 Core clock: 954 MHz Memory data rate: 5010 MHz Memory interface: 64-bit Memory bandwidth: 40.08 GB/s Total available graphics memory: 5081 MB Dedicated video memory: 1024 MB GDDR5 System video memory: 0 MB Shared system memory: 4057 MB Video BIOS version: 82.08.4D.00.01 IRQ: Not used Bus: PCI Express x4 Gen3 Device Id: 10DE 134B 00081414 Part Number: 2702 0001 From this we can see that the GPU is effectively a Maxwell 940m with half the normal amount of memory (1GB vs 2GB) but more than twice the bandwidth (5010mhz vs 2000mhz). Performance should therefore be between a 940m and a 950m with it being closer to the 940m in all but memory limited situations. Decent for pushing CAD at the high resolution but nothing earth shattering when it comes to games, unfortunately not the 960m a lot of people were hoping for.

Ok, so I installed Linux Mint onto my Acer Chromebook the model is a CB3-111-C670 had to install seabios and do some crazy stuff to get this thing to work but it didn't brick my device or anything. The problem I'm having now is the touchpad and the sound won't work now, there's nothing on the webs that I can find on my problem. Or maybe ubuntu would be better I'm not really sure but I just like mint for some reason any suggestions is appreciated!

So, I like chromebooks. I think it would be cool if there was a thread like there is for food and cars. I know there are forums for that to but it would still be cool to have one. Who agrees with me? O and it would probably be more like a chromebook/chromuim/linux thread.

Both my mac and a mac I'm have from someone i know does take very long time to boot. The chime sound comes and its white with the loading bar. The "loading bar phase" takes very long time. What can i do to make it faster? The previous versions of OS X worked perfectly, it took maybe a maximum of 15 seconds, and now it take at least 30 seconds with Yosemite. The mac from someone i know is newly formatted and reinstalled OS X. Should i reset the PRAM?

I am planning on upgrading the memory on my Macbook Pro Early 2011, I was wondering if it supported these 8 gig modules because on most websites I read on they do / say 2 x 4 gig modules.

So, I just got a mac laptop from early 2011. It has been fixed a little and it had its hard drive replaced, by a new one. Its speed is like 100mbps reading and 80mpbs writing, is this fast enough for gaming or am I going to get a huge boost if I change it for an SSD. The SSD I'm thinking of getting is a Samsung 850 Evo.

Check out these digits: 31A7 0953 D8D5 90BA 1FAB 3776 2F38 98CE DEE9 58CF Facebook now offers the option to encrypt all email notifications sent to you with a public gpg key you set in your profile, and sign all of their emails to you with their public key. These two steps should ensure that; 1. Nobody but you can read the notification emails facebook sends you. 2. You can verify any notification email as coming from facebook, against the current operation key they are using (which will in turn be signed by their primary key) Adding your public key to your profile will also make it show up on your profile. If all of this seems like gibberish to you, the EFF has a pretty good explanation of the technology here: https://ssd.eff.org/en/module/introduction-public-key-cryptography-and-pgp It seems that facebook want to continue in their quest to have all of your data, but make sure nobody else has it. Choose between $300,000 for a self-destructing physical copy of "Private Vegas," or try your luck at getting a self-destructing digital version with a 24-hour countdown timer. There's a very special advance copy of James Patterson's new thriller "Private Vegas" up for sale. Theextremely limited edition of one book is selling for $294,038, but you can't keep it in your library. It's designed to self-destruct. And you'll need to sign a waiver. The book comes with a complete package arranged for a Patterson superfan. It starts with a flight to "an undisclosed location" and includes champagne when you get there. Expensive champagne, presumably. A bomb squad will hold the copy of the book open for you while you read it using gold binoculars. Then, you get to watch the book blow up before having a five-course meal with James Patterson, an American author best known for the Alex Cross detective series. Ridiculous? Absolutely. But it's a doozy of a publicity stunt. Is $300,000 a little much for you? Fans also have a shot at 1,000 digital copies of the book delivered through an iPad app. Random readers are given a code to redeem for the book. Codes will be dropping periodically over the next few days atselfdestructingbook.com. Each digital copy comes with a 24-hour countdown timer. When the time's up, the book disappears. The book's website shows which readers are currently devouring the book, how far along they are, how much time is left, and the speed at which they are reading. Readers are also encouraged to report their stress levels while reading, starting at "goosebumps" and ramping up to "heart attack." This app has an expiration date. I attempted to get one of the digital copies of the book, which turned into an adventure in its own right as I was initially thwarted by a failed Facebook connection in the Chrome browser on my iPad. I tried Safari, made the connection and then repeatedly got a "Mission Unaccomplished" notice when I tried to select a code. On a last-ditch effort, I netted a code using my desktop browser. If the book itself as exciting as the process of getting one, it could be a good read. There's no going back with the special digital copy. You swipe a page and it goes poof forever. A digital representation of flames eats each page as you move through the book while a timer up top reminds you how you need to read fast. Even worse, random visitors to the selfdestructingbook.com website can steal time from your countdown, squeezing the life out of your precious reading moments. While you can certainly order a regular copy of the book for yourself when it comes out on January 26, there's something both fun and a little stressful about having James Patterson threatening to steal your book away in just a few short, tense hours. So I am starting a project with someone and I need to be able to create a cross platform graphics but in order to do that I need an API that can run on more than just Windows. However I have a slight issue... I have never touched OpenGL before, I have though used DirectX 10.1 and up quite a bit so learning a new API isn't an issue but not having any material to learn from is an issue. I am looking for any recommendations for OpenGL 4.x? (probably not going to use 4.x features but I would like to at least know them if I am committing time to learning a new API) Also if anyone can recommend OpenGL ES 2.0 books as well that would be awesome.

Hello, I am trying to find a book that can teach me the basics of Python and then move onto teaching me more advanced things. I know that there are many YouTube videos out there ( which I will be watching ) but I like the idea of having a book that I can quickly refer to. I love the HTML and CSS book by Jon Duckett/ Thanks in advance, ~ Harry EDIT - I am currently learning Python 2.7.2

Apple’s forthcoming 12” MacBook Air (MBA) are projected to be based on Intel Corp.’s code-named “Broadwell” processor made using 14nm, which means fan less , slimmer and lighter. In order to make the laptop slimmer, Apple had to get rid of multiple ports and even 3.5” audio interface. As a result, the new MacBook Air will only feature one MagSafe magnetic charging port as well as USB 3.1 port with 10Gb/s bandwidth and new type-C connector with reversible plug orientation. The new MBA will be one of the first PCs to feature USB 3.1 type-C connector. It is also logical to expect the forthcoming MacBook Air to feature a Thunderbolt port. The new MBA laptops will feature 12” retina-class display with very high resolution and pixel density. Ultra-thin laptops will receive retina-class display for the first time with the new MBA. Hello folks, I am planning to teach myself some new programming languages (Delphi and C++) and would like to ask the knowledge people over here if they could recommend some well written books that could help me on my journey. I sadly did not find any online resource that truely satisfied and I generally prefer books as it is easier to annotate them! Something with not too bulky text passages and lots of example would be awesome Thank you in advance
