Hey Pretty much just as the title says. I'm trying to find an external UHD BluRay drive for my M1 MacBook to rip backups of my UHD BluRay discs. Any suggestions? I've seen mixed reviews about what supports UHD and even more notes saying Mac is not supported by many. I thought this would have been an easier bit of kit to find. Thanks

So I got a Blu-ray drive for my PC because I wanted to be able to play Blu-rays. Come to figure out that Win10 doesn't include BR support in their media player because they have to pay a fee for it. I have tried VLC (which I went through a couple guides and messed with files but couldn't get it to work) and quite a few others, but only got one to work, and the menus were slow, and the audio was crap. Is there a program you suggest? I'd be willing to pay $5-10ish USD if I knew it would work.I'd also be willing to do a bit of work if needed.

Hi everyone. I was browsing FaceBook Marketplace and I ended up buying this old Sony Vaio laptop for a bargain, the surprise of it having a blu-ray optical disc drive and a gorgeous 16.4" 1600x900 display (looks like an IPS panel to me, not sure though), proved too much for a film buff\bluray enthusiast like me to resist. The previous owner removed the HDD and installed a Kingston A400 SATA SSD that made it pretty snappy (within reason) and fast to boot. I'm not sure if the second ram stick was an upgrade, but I suspect that it originally came with only 4gigs. Once home I immediately ran msinfo32 and CPU-Z to check out the detailed specs of the machine (detailed .txt below): I did some research but I wasn't able to find any drivers or documentation for it on Sony's website or anywhere else. I then researched the motherboard's PM45 Chipset in order to try to come up with an upgrade path to make it a little snappier and more usable in Windows 10. My idea is to replace the 2gb ram stick with 4 and the P7350 with a C2D P8700 for about 20% more CPU performance, however, I have no way of knowing if it's going to work other than meeting the 25w tdp and going by what the chipset CPU support list indicates. If possible, I would also like to replace the wifi card with something that could support Wi-Fi 6 and BT 5. One thing I fear is the possibility of this machine having any kind of parts whitelist on the bios to restrict upgrades, like some ThinkPads do. It seems like something Sony would do. I would also like to find the recovery discs that come with the original OEM software\drivers and the InterVideo WinDVD BD solution to play BD movies. (I have installed my copy of PowerDVD but I'd like to use the original software that came with it). I tried finding it on the archive but had no luck. Same thing trying to find any teardown\upgrade guides on iFixit or similar websites, nothing at all. Can anyone help me out with this thing? Thanks! DESKTOP-8P834NV.txt

Good day, I am new in this community and I am looking for some assistance with my new build. I just upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 as well due to this build. Everything has been going smooth but the last detail in the software side is not working as intended. I have a Pioneer BDR-209D Blu-ray drive and I have been using it the last year in my previous Win 7 build without any complications. Now when I am watching 1080p Blu-ray movies PowerDVD 22 Ultra is freezing randomdly and after a few seconds or minutes the video will begin again but the audio would be ahead. The video will try to catch up to the audio by the video playing at a higher speed or stutterring ahead skipping frames to catch up to the audio. This only happens with Blu-rays since I have been able to watch entire DVDs without any problems. Also tried the different movies in the living room Blu-ray player without any issues. Things I already tried: 1. Uninstalled the Blu-ray drive from Windows Device Manager and restarted so Windows installs the device again 2. Updated Blu-ray Drive Pioneer BDR-209D to firmware version 1.51 3. Tried with different Blu-ray movies, all of them would do the same. DVDs will work just fine. Blurays will play without any issues in another Blur-ray player 4. Tried also in PowerDVD 20 ultra and same behavior 5- Using latest Nvidia Studio Drivers version 516.59 5. Right now I am going to uninstall my Nvidia Studio Drivers and install the latest Game-Ready Drivers version 516.19 Any other ideas? Does a UHD Blu-Ray use lossless HEVC to compress Master movie files? Or is it lossy? If so, does that mean encodes essentially take a lossy file as input to create another lossy file? Wouldn't that result in perceptible quality loss?

I've had this external LG blu ray drive for about a year now, but recently I've come to find when I restart the system, it does nothing but hang on a black screen, and none of my peripherals seem to turn on. The Q-Code on my Crosshair VIII Hero WiFi just reads "3E" with a yellow light, which apparently means "Post-Memory PCH initialization is started". The only way my PC restarts normally is if I unplug the drive from the back of the motherboard before restarting. I tried updating the drivers for that specific drive, but LG's website doesn't seem to have a list of drivers for their products.

Hey guys, can anyone tell me if it's possible to copy UHD / 4K BluRays with the above mentioned player/burner? I never copied a BluRay before and don't know if there is a difference if it's just 1080p or UHD. Thank you

' If I remove the hard drive cage of the O11 Dynamic XL, there's a near perfect spot to fit my optical drive. My only limitation is finding a secure way to mount it - I tried fashioning a solution out of parts from the hard drive cage, but they were just a bit too restrictive to get it in the right spot. Any suggestions on how I could mount it? Ideally I'd model and 3D print a bracket, but I don't have a 3D printer.

Hey guys, I have a bunch of DVD's and Bluray's which I've collected over the years because I really enjoy having physical media of the films I enjoy but recently I've created a NAS and I'm wanting to start digitising my movie collection. I tried using Handbrake to begin with because it's something I used many years ago for a college project, but it hasn't worked for some films due to licencing restriction, so I've moved on to using VLC to 'Convert/save' which has worked but it has definitely compressed the films visually and audibly. For example Skyfall on DVD is approximately 8GB but the VLC version is just over 1GB and it hasn't kept the 5.1 Dolby Digital audio. What I'm really wanting is a piece of software which will rip DVD's and Bluray's and keep them as close to the original as possible, is that possible with VLC or do I need to use another program? I appreciate there will be some compassion but I don't want it to be noticeable downgrade. I hope that all makes sense. Thanks in advance, Matt

I have been looking for a good bluray software player for my computer. Years ago I was given a license for Macgo for windows, and I have been using that, but there seems to be an issue with the windows version that it cannot use the built in bluray menu. Instead it gives this very generic menu (see image). The problem with the menu it uses is that none of the chapters are labeled. This makes finding specific episodes of a tv show very challenging or trying to watch bonus features. Does anyone know if there is a way to enable the bluray menu with this player? If not, can anyone recommend a good program for playing blurays? Paid or free. (I have tried the free versions of Leawo, DAPlayer, Cyberlink, and Aurora) Of the others I've tried they either performed poorly, had the same menu problem or I didn't figure out; if you think I should give one of them another shot, lets talk.

Hello all, I have my computer with a bluray player connected to it by USB. I would like to share that resource over the network. I can share the bluray player as a storage device by doing the standard right click -> share. I even have it mapped on the other machines. However I can not read from it as if it were a bluray player. I have legit copies of powerdvd19 in order to play the blurays on both machines. They are able to see the files on the disk within the program, but acts as if it's a storage device. Thank you for your help in advance.

Hi guys, I want to make a digital movie and music library and when I realised that pretty much no websites like google play and amazon give you an actual video file I landed on buying physical blu-rays and converting them to digital files (I am aware that this is illegal, but I believe it shouldn't be and if anyone knows of a legal way to buy a digital movie library for personal use I would love to hear it). So I am really picky about my movies looking and sounding exactly the same as they would've if they were played from the disc and storage space isn't a problem as I have a massive NAS. What is the cleanest, most legit software for converting blu-rays / dvds into digital files (Money is also not a problem within limits)? Thanks.

Title spells it all. Looking for one that you can slot in an existing drive, fasten screws and use it on a desktop, top of case etc. I work with a lot of optical media still, and I'm hoping there's something out there.

Mini 4k Bluray Windows media center for my TV
DerEntinator posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
I want to build a cheap and small media centre for my Tv that runs on windows. I already picked up the UHD-friendly BR-Drive ASUS BC-12D2HT in a sale, now I just need everything else to go around it. Yes, I know, "just buy a dedicated BluRay-Player" will be a recurring answer, but I would really like to have an actual Pc at my Tv. And no, I don't want to RIP the BluRays. Also, it would be neat to know what the actual requirements are to play a 4k-HDR-BluRay on a Pc.- 6 replies

Hi! So, I'm intending to get a 4K Bluray player (LG UBK80) and 4K monitor (ROG PG27AQ), and I already have a laptop (ROG GL502VS). My headset is a Razer Kraken V2, so it runs through USB. I'm now just trying to find a method in which I can connect the audio out of both my PC and the Bluray player or monitor to the same headset. Preferably this method doesn't involve any sort of large bits of hardware, like mixers. Any ideas?

I picked up one of these a while ago for the purpose of backing up the couple of 4K movies that I own and making them available through my NAS system. My suspicions were that a 4K movie was stored on a Double or Triple layer disc, so I plunked one of the 4K movies into the drive. It sounds like it's trying to read the disc, but it can't seem to do so for some reason. Any ideas? This drive sports BDXL capabilities for Triple and Quad layer discs. And before you give me the whole piracy talk, I actually bought the movie on Google Play and on a physical disc and have no intentions of sharing it around.

To keep this short. I downloaded some m2ts movie files and want to play them back. Video works fine. Audio works fine for a minute or 2 and then the character voices phase out and you can barely hear them while the effects audio is still going full blast. The audio format is DTS-HD. I'm no audio expert but it says that it's DTS-HD 6.1 Audio. My question is, Can my hardware be the problem with these playback issues or is something else the problem. I'm using a pair of ATH-M50X plugged into the front port of my PC and the mobo is the MSI Z370-A Pro. Any help is appreciated.

I'm setting up my first home cinema and was looking for a 4K (HDR) Blu-ray capable player, but only have about $150 left in the budget after screen and sound system. Does anyone know what's the best option. On a non-unrelated note... Many reviews criticize players for having a "poor picture", "unnatural colours" or "poor sound", so basically I just wanted to know how the player even effects those things...? But surely the player just spins up the disc, reads it, decodes the data, and sends that on through to the screen etc. (that actually decide what colours or sounds etc to produce based on the signal they receive) a signal that's surely just the information straight from the disc? So what's going on, and is it possible that the player somehow has an effect? And if so, how/why? Thanks for any help or advice.

So, I have been looking to buy a 21:9 monitor for productivity (to be able to see more of my timeline while editing amongst other things) but I am facing a dilemma. I found a good monitor the LG 29WK500 (there is also a HDR version, but idk if it's worth it), but I was wondering if there was any way to play BluRays or movies in general (on Netflix for example) at the native 2569x1080 resolution. Do any of you have a way?

I've got fed up with iTunes as my movie source. Netflix is a ripoff in the UK and Prime video doesn't support AC3 pass-through. My only option is BluRay. Can anyone recommend the best way to play them with full DTS/Dolby support? I'm using an old PS3 at the moment but the drive is dying on that. I'm going to get a BluRay drive for my PC. When i bought one a few years ago the PowerDVD that came with it only supported stereo sound. I have had them working in VLC but that a pigging nightmare with BluRay. So what i used to do was MakeMKV and play the files in VLC. Is that still the best option? i was hoping not to have to have countless huge file on my comp. Just wanna put in a disc and watch the film

I want to get a Blu ray drive to rip 4k HDR BluRays (Whatever the latest and greatest standard is) and burn Bluray XL disks (100 or 128). I'm currently comparing the LG WH16NS60 and the LG WH16NS40, So far the only difference I can see is that the 60 has 4K in the specs but the 40 seems to have all the same read and write specs. Is the only difference updated marketing or is there a critical difference I am missing here?

Hey all, So I'm looking to get into UHD HDR Blurays. I have an Xbox One S already so that part is sorted, so now I'm looking for a TV to go with it. I'm looking for something for around 400/500€. Right now I have my eyes on this on amazon, as it has good reviews, has all the features I need, is from a reputable brand and is an "Amazon's Choice" but I am looking for your guys' opinions
