Greetings Linux Tech Tips Community, I'm here to ask for advice on a new PC build. I'm currently on a 10+-year-old Intel Q6600 PC (8800 GTS GPU). I think my Galaxy Note 4 runs faster than this POS! I am set to start school (while working full-time.. and I know how will I juggle all of this I don't know) and want to do a lot of intensive work on a computer such as modeling, graphics, art, A/V work (media management). I was originally going to consider buying a 16+ core setup (looking at a Threadripper or a iMac Pro... equivalent >_>), but decided a budget PC and a laptop (or another computer for my partner) to be more important to me for the moment. So far I've got this worked out: RAM - G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3000MHz (PC4 24000) ~ $206.90 on Amazon Mobo - ASUS ROG Strix Z270l Gaming Motherboard ~ $178.57 on Amazon CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 1700 with Wraith Spire LED Cooler ~ $269.99 on Amazon OS - OEM Microsoft Windows 10 Professional Edition ~ $84.99 SSD - Samsung 850 EVO 1TB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD ~ $299.99 Case - Fractal Design Meshify C Mid Tower ~ $69.99 PSU - Undecided GPU - Undecided Things I still need to figure out: PSU, GPU. I'm undecided on GPU as I'm not as huge a gamer as I used to be, but still need something that can game and help do tons work. I heard the GPU market is over-priced at the moment due to mining? That 2018 might offer better budget friendly solutions.. Unsure about monitor/peripherals at this moment. Would like a nice 4K monitor. I still have an old Intuos 3 Wacom tablet and am willing to try to squeeze more life from it before I opt for something better. Any suggestions/changes would be welcome. Thanks in advance and feel free to add any additional input of your own from your own experience. Thanks again!

Hey guys, I am in need of a 2 in 1 convertable Laptop with support for a stylus of some kind (e.g Lenovo Yoga) but not as expensive. I am based in germany so either international or German/European deals would be best. My budget is 1000€ at most, I'd prefer some less though. I dont need it for gaming or for real power, I have a 7700k and 1060 for that. So I dont need any "I7 8700U, 1080 max-q 16 gB Dominator Platinum at 4000 mHz"-Laptop, just a convertable that supports a stylus, is a good deal and that you would recommend or found out about. Also it should have a at least good Battery, I need it for university and there are no power outlets withing the lecture rooms. Thanks a lot Paul

I'm in the midst of putting together my annual Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and everything in between and all around Holiday Deals list. I do this each year to keep organized all the deals for myself but share it in a Google Doc for other to use too. Just don't buy out the things I'm trying to get! Also, I update it fairly frequently during the next couple weeks so feel free to check back.https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-_NF0QvxGSCyKZ3r6xg0mS4xlrlVY8EJtrAL2osyfg0/edit?usp=sharing

I am in the marked for good open back headphones. My budget is not more than 100$ and I would mostly use the headphones on a laptop. I only listen to rock music and its subgenres. Since I started looking for headphones, I thought of the grado sr80s as my favorites; I saw the sennheiser 500 series however they were out of my price range especially 599. Yesterday I saw the promotion on the senn hd 579 - 69£ at argos (retail price 170£). So my question to you guys is what is your opinion - which headphones should I choose, and if you have any other suggestion outside of these two, please share it with me. Thank you! http://www.argos.co.uk/product/7906808 https://www.amazon.com/Grado-SR80e-Prestige-Series-Headphones/dp/B00L1LXOWS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511522998&sr=8-1&keywords=grado

So oneplus released a statement -> https://oneplus.net/black-friday-2017 Basically they say that they're selling the device for a fair price year-round(they've stated this before) and they stand up against "price games". However, they're giving you a whopping $0.01 discount on the 5T and 50% off the dash charging bundle. Personally I think that's okay to some extent. I don't think that it's that fairly priced, considering that they're still exploiting so many workers in China. But still, some of the components could be the reason for the higher price - things like UFS 2.1 and the RAM are not that cheap anymore. Also, back when they were selling the OP3, there was a shortage of AMOLED displays. But still, the jump from 399 for the OP3 to 499 for the 5/5T is pretty bad for the whole "flagship killer" thing. Not that it's not a great deal, I'm just expecting the price to hit the 600 mark sooner or later. Edit: Added my opinion(so the post meets the guidelines)

So I've had my eye on the Lg 27gl650F-B on amazon since its bigger brother the Lg 27gl83A-B sold out this morning. a $350 monitor on sale for $200 is pretty nice looking to my novice eyes but I was wondering if I should take the shot to my wallet now and buy a 1080p, 144hz monitor with 1ms response ISP panel and free-sync with g-sync compatibility or should I wait until cyber monday and hope there's something as good or better. I don't want to spend more than $300 on a monitor which is why I usually wait for these sales so I can get something actually worth the money I put into it. I also plan on upgrading my rig to specs that can handle 1440p at 144hz but that won't come for a while unless a really good deal on GPUs comes around on cyber monday so I can pick up a nice RX 5700 XT.

So I’ve been slowly upgrading my pc and I decided that my monitor is one of the first investments I should choose. Right now I have some 1080p, 60hz display I picked up on the cheap about two years ago coupled with a GTX 1060 that came with the rig that I bought around the same time. Because I tend to play large amounts of FPS and rhythm games, I know I should be getting a higher refresh rate monitor so I’m prioritizing refresh rate over resolution, though if I can squeeze by with a 1440p for when I replace my GPU with something a little more modern (keeping my fingers crossed for a good deal come cyber Monday for a good rx 5700 xt) I would like that a lot. I found a monitor on amazon that has been discounted: the lg 25GL650f-b on sale for $200 down from $350 https://www.amazon.com/LG-27GL650F-B-Ultragear-Compatible-Monitor/dp/B07R7636MH/ the monitor has pretty much everything I need, namely the high refresh rate and a low pixel response time. It also has a few other neat things like g-sync compatibility, free-sync, and an IPS panel for when I play some RPGs or edit some videos in my off time. However it is also a 1080p on a 27” panel and I’ve heard people say that the pixel density is too low. There is also the factor of me upgrading my rig so longevity of my hardware is a priority next to refresh rate and I feel that 1080p might not be enough once I get things upgraded to the point that I can handle 1440p fairly well. this is where the above monitor’s big brother comes in: the lg 27GL83A-B https://www.amazon.com/LG-27GL83A-B-Ultragear-Compatible-Monitor/dp/B07YGZL8XF/ this does all that the 650 does but in addition to being in 1440p. The draw back is that the 83 is only on sale for $320 from $380 the big question is whether or not the 83 is worth the extra $180 for longevity’s sake or take the much more obvious deal of the 650 and cough up the money for another monitor in a year or two.

Hey, so its currently Black Friday and I was thinking of buying myself some DDR4 RAM for an upgrade I want to make from early next year to around June, when the new RTX cards drop. Only I'm not sure whether its a smart thing to even buy DDR4 RAM at this point, since we've now had it for a while now and I feel like DDR5 is just around the corner. Does anyone here maybe know a little more about this?

Hey guys. I'm looking to build an entry level gaming PC, taking advantage of Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday deals. My budget is $700 before tax and shipping, and I'm in Canada. I don't need a monitor, or any peripherals. Preferably limited to Amazon, Newegg, and Canada Computers (a good enough sale, and I'll look at others as well). This is the closest I've been able to put together on PCPartPicker. PCPartPicker Part List: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/pFhY9G CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor ($145.99 @ Amazon Canada) Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 AORUS ELITE ATX AM4 Motherboard ($129.99 @ Amazon Canada) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($79.98 @ Amazon Canada) Storage: Samsung 860 Evo 500 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($79.98 @ Amazon Canada) Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon RX 570 4 GB Gaming 4G Video Card ($169.00 @ Canada Computers) Case: Rosewill NAUTILUS ATX Mid Tower Case ($40.99 @ Amazon Canada) Power Supply: Corsair CXM 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply ($79.98 @ Amazon Canada) Total: $725.91 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-11-28 10:01 EST-0500 I was hoping to be able to get the 3600, but then a video card would be out of the question? Secondary storage, better cooling (if needed), will come later. For case, mainly just don't want glass. And the rest, leaning towards reliability/longevity as much as possible. Here is my PCPartPicker, with a few builds and a bunch of parts favourited that I'm keeping an eye on. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/Kytheon/ Comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm planning to build a PC around Black Friday and I'm looking for suggestions for case fans. Looking to keep the budget below $2100 USD. Since I'm purchasing the PC during Black Friday sales, I can go up to $2200 USD as a budget currently (and hopefully I can save some money due to Black Friday and less demand for 1080's ). Here is the current build. The build includes an i7-6700K, an EVGA GTX 1080 FTW, and an NZXT Phantom. Due to the fact that I'm not well-versed in the realm of case fans (which ones to use and where to put them), I decided that it would be beneficial to post a thread on the build. Thanks! P.S. General suggestions are also welcome. Trying to stay with a red/black color scheme, but it doesn't really matter.

What do you want/looking to buy during black Friday sales?

Hi there, Before I start my question, here's my current build: -XFX FX-777A-ZNF4 Radeon HD 7000 Series; AMD; Radeon HD 7770; 1000 MHz; CrossFire; 2048 x 1536 pixels; 2560 x 1600 pixels (FX-777A-ZNF4) -Intel Core i7 i7-4790K CPU (Quad Core 4GHz, Socket H3 LGA-1150) -Asrock Z97M ANNIVERSARY MATX Motherboard Socket 1150 (Intel Z97, 4x DDR3, 4x SATA III) -HyperX FURY Series 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM Memory Module Kit - Black -EVGA 500B 500W 80+ BRONZE PC Power Supply -LiteOn IHAS124-04 24x SATA Half Height Internal DVDRW Drive -Seagate Barracuda 3.5 inch 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB 6GB/S Internal SATA Drive -Fractal Design Core 1000 Series Micro ATX Case As you can probably tell, my PC is severely bottlenecked, with my GPU not being up-to-date with my CPU. I have made up my mind that I will go for the GTX 970, as opposed to the r9 390 after hours and hours online. What I cannot decide for however, is which GTX 970 to go for. I'm looking for a GPU to buy for Black Friday and Cyber Monday coming up. I currently play games like GTA 5, The Witcher 3, Empire: Total War, Total War: Attila, Cities Skylines, War Thunder, Battlefield Hardline, and a couple of other medium-high resource-intensive games. I would like to get at least high settings on these games (if not ultra) at 1080p (single monitor), and get 60 fps. Lastly, I don't really want any fanboys or fangirls on here, arguing that one is superior, due to nothing more than them owning that particular car. They all have their pros and cons, and I'd appreciate it if you'd state the advantages AND disadvantages for going with your chosen GPU. My case is slightly small for GPUs like the G1 Gaming, so please suggest some small ones. I also don't really mind sound, as long as gameplay is sufficient for my needs stated above, and I don't really overclock. I do not have sufficient cooling at the moment, for overclocking, so I'd like a rather good factory overclock. Thank you to whoever replies. Cheers!

Hey everyone, Looking to get a good deal on a decent 4k monitor tonight. I'm looking to spend 500-600 dollars on a decent 4k monitor for casual gaming and watching movies. 700 dollars at the most if absolutely necessary. I don't really care what size it is, my only requirements are for it to have good color depth, fast responsiveness, good quality, good price to performance, and preferably G-Sync and also an IPS panel. I was thinking of the Asus PB287Q, Asus PV279Q (Can't really tell the difference between the two?), Acer XB280HK (The reviews about it's shoddy build quality is unsettling), or the Dell P2715Q. Check my signature for my PC specs, running dual Dell U2414H's, and a GTX 980 SSC at the moment. Thanks for your help y'all.
