Hi guys! First time in this section of the forum, just trying to help my dad. He is the manager of a small accounting firm here in Lima, Peru, and he has read some about servers and he asked me if that would help him in his small business. I help him in most of IT stuff in his job, but I am really a novice in servers. I watched some of Linus' videos about servers and, to be honest, that's completely too much for him. He has a small office with 10 assistants, his main PC and my mom's one (she is like his right hand in the business). The idea, he says, is that it has to be a computer or device that all the PC can access for all the data needed for the accounting software used in the business, quickly and reliably. All PCs are connected by LAN (Cat-6 cables) and a small switch and most of the time they work OK. As far my knowledge told me, because of the size of his business, a rack server is not needed, just a good PC with good storage (at that time SSD were really, really expensive) and good network connection (Gigabit). So, few years ago, I installed that in his office as a "server" PC where all main data is saved and the rest of PCs access and process from. But, he has been experiencing some troubles with that so he thinks a rack server is needed. I don't know almost nothing of that kind of devices apart from that they are really expensive and have specialized features for server work (different processor and mainboard) and I am not so sure if he needs that kind of stuff. Can you help me please? If a rack server is needed, what kind would be that it won't cost an arm and a leg?, if not, why? and what alternatives do you recommend? Thanks so much!

Hello internet, I find myself watching Linus and his minions with drool dripping down my chin cause I often have no idea what he’s saying. I love this stuff though. It is so interesting! With all of that being said, Linus has done a fantastic job of getting my curiosity peaked. I want to build a new pc but don’t know really anything about what levels of performance I need. For a first build, what should I look to for absolute necessities and what are some other specs that aren’t necessary but are good starting points for a first time pc builder. I love to game but not at a competitive level. The games I typically play are 1st person shooters, I.e. Rainbow Six Siege, Call is Duty, Battlefield, etc.... like I mentioned, ladies and gentlemen, I am completely new to this so any direction will be welcomed!

Hello, This is my first time designing and building a PC. I was wondering if there we any suggestions or things I should do. I'm trying to build a decent gaming rig for under $500 USD. Thanks. The PC: - AMD Ryzen 5 2600x (stock cooler okay?) - Gigabyte B450 AORUS M (bundled with CPU) - G.Skill Ripjaw V 16GB (2 x 8 ) DDR4-3200 - Samsung 970 Evo 500gb M.2 SSD - EVGA BQ 500 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply - MSI Geforce GTX 1070 ti 8gb ARMOUR (I got from a friend) - Thermaltake core v21 MicroATX mini tower Current total: $451.93 Anything I should change or experience anyone had with any of these parts? Currently I'm shopping for a new monitor that's fair cheap, any suggestions? Once again, thank you.

Does anyone have this monitor? If so, I would like to know not only how it runs, but someone's personal opinion about this monitor. I saw it on amazon and thought it was a great monitor for $69.99, but I would like to know how it preforms from the perspective of someone who owns it. Thanks!

Aim: Play games at high resolution and fps --> Pubg, Dota, COD, World of Warcraft, CS:GO, maybe try some AAA titles in the future but mostly multiplayer games. Components: MOB: ASUS Maximus XI Hero Wifi CPU: Intel i7-9700k GPU: ASUS ROG Strix RTX 2080ti RAM: GSkill Trident Z 4x8GB 3200 CL16 PSU: Corsair HX850 SSD: Samsung 1 TB 970 Pro HDD: 2TB Seagate 7200 rpm / 2TB Western Digital Black Series CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken x72 Case: Cooler Master C700P Monitor: I would like to know from someone who has played on curved monitors, if playing on ultra wide curved monitor is better than a flat monitor or not? At the moment I am inclined towards ASUS pg279q and am open to suggestions. I have following requirements from my monitor 2560x1440 (or 3440 x 1440 if playing on ultra wide has more merit) 100+ refresh rate IPS G-sync UPS: CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD Speaker: Open to suggestions but probably something which I can get in India (I am from India). Keyboard: Open to suggestions. I might SLI in distant future if Nvidia is able to fix performance scaling with it, otherwise no. I would like your comments on: - Whether the entire rig is compatible with each other - PSU: Not considering SLI, is my choice - Not enough? enough? Over the top? - CPU Cooler: I think its compatible with my case choice. - HDD: any particular advantage seagate or WD have over each other? - Am I missing something? I am hoping to start ordering parts by the end of the year and get the setup up and running by mid January, depending on when the parts get delivered. Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated. Edit: I will get a second monitor a year or 2 down the line without any other upgrades to the setup as a whole.

Hi, Trying to build a new pc for myself for gaming to replace a old laptop I used for college and it has started to go out of date. I will also using it for Adobe software like Photoshop, Illustrator and Lightroom but mostly the focus will be gaming. The games I will be playing on it are CS:GO, Final Fantasy XXVI, Halo Reach, Borderlands 3, Call of Duty Modern Warfare and etc. I am trying to lower the price as much as I can to make it affordable I was wondering if I can get any advice in lowering the price and/or any way ways to improve the system. Specs and price: CPU: Ryzen 7 2700 (£144.00) Motherboard: Msi B450 (£89.99) GPU: MSI Geforce 2070 Super 8GB (£454.50) SSD: Samsung 500gb (£80.99) - Plan to expand down the line RAM: Corsair 8GBx2 Vengeance (£89.99) PSU: Corsair cx750w (£76.49) Case: Nzxt h510 (£65.99) Monitor: MSI Optix 144hz (£161.99) - With this if you know of any cheaper options for 144hz let me know Also is it advised I use another CPU cooler rather than the one which comes in the box? (I don't plan on overclocking). Thanks for reading, appreciate your opinions!

Hi guys, I'm a complete beginner when it comes to pc building, I've researched enough about reviews of components and used pcpart picker to check compatability with my parts, and ordered them, but I'm unsure as to if they will fit/work together regardless. I tried to spend more to avoid skimping on important parts(I have no idea!) Here's the build: Case: bequiet Dark Base 700 CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 Mobo: MSI b450 gaming pro carbon ac GPU: XFX Radeon 5700 XT Thicc III Ultra 8 GB RAM: Corsair vengeance RGB Pro 16gb(2x8) 3200C16 Cooler: Cooler Master ML360r liquid cooler SSD: Samsung evo 860 1TB SATA PSU: Corsair rm650 Gold Fully modular 650W OS: Windows 10 home USB As a noob I have a few questions, please bear with me!: 1. Obvious and a bit late since I've ordered, but will all the parts actually work with each other? Lol (pcpartpicker doesnt say anything, but its sketchy because it doesnt have the exact component name for some of the parts) 2. I've checked the dimensions of the case and my GPU, since it looks so bloody big I'm not sure if it will fit? The dimensions are confusing, or I'm just blind.... 3. Everyone seems to be talking about thermal paste, and since I'm stupid and went with the complicated liquid cooling idk if I should use the one that comes with the cooler or buy another one? If CM provides one. 4. Do I need to buy anything else? I have the peripherals(mouse, monitor and keyboard), but do I need any extra screws/cables? I read about magnetic screwdrivers and some anti static stuff for building, what do you guys reccomend? 5. As I've never built before, how would I go about installing the water cooler(before I mount the mobo?) Most guides I've seen don't cover water cooling. 6. Finally, if anyone would be able to estimate the avg performance/thermals my setup should normally produce(so I know if I need to return anything for warranty). Can I/should I overclock? I'd only use this to play games. Not sure if I should get a 2k or 4k monitor, can my setup support either? 7. General building tips for a complete beginner? Anything! Thanks so much, I'm just really worried as I spent what I think is a lot on a pc, and being stupid don't know what I'm getting myself into. Any help appreciated! :)

Long story short: I got this Frigidaire Retro Mini Fridge that only holds 6 normal sized cans of soda, but is rather portable. I got it last year during a Black Friday sale and it's been pretty good to me... until the cooling fan died. I tore it apart and discovered it's made with some pretty simple components. I've always wanted to get into hobby electronics and I think this would be a good start. I don't want to just replace the fan, I want to upgrade the machine so it gets colder. Is there anyone who can help me, or at least point me to some good resources so I can learn by myself? Long story long: This is a relatively simple machine. It's small, compact, lightweight, comes with a handle for easy carrying, and even has a port for a cigarette lighter in a car. This thing is made to run off of 12v car batteries, so again, a pretty simple machine. Here are the internal components themselves in their entirety: The fridge contains 3 main things: A 3cm square Peltier cooling unit (left) An 8x8x2cm fan (upper center) A circuit board with a whack ton of heatsinks and capacitors. (right) I didn't know about Peltier cooling units when I opened this thing up, and I thought that little white square was black magic. Coincidentally enough, Linus Tech Tips uploaded a video where they used Peltier's to cool a PC, to some degree. Basically they move electrons from one side of the unit to the other. Moving the energy away from one side causes that side to get cold and the other side to get hot. While it's not great for large scale cooling, it's great for small scale applications like this. The fridge actually gets decently cold too. Of course, as you can see the Peltier unit is connected to a FAT heatsink (2 actually, the second isn't pictured but it's a solid 3.6x.3.6x2cm metal block and the unit is sandwiched between them) and on the other side of that heatsink is the fan, which of course points to the back of the fridge. To my understanding, if I wanted to upgrade the cooling capacity of this fridge, I would need either a bigger or more powerful Peltier unit, or maybe give the current one more power, of course I would need a bigger fan to carry more heat, and then maybe remove something from the circuit board so that it can run more power (because the units themselves need more power, otherwise I'm just throttling everything and ruining the point). Again, that is MY understanding of what I would need to do to upgrade this thing, but I am NOT a professional, and I don't know much about electronics, especially custom stuff like this. That's why I turned to the forums. If I were to try and go at this, I'm thinking best case scenario I get no perceptible difference in temperature, most likely scenario I would brick the fridge and have to throw it out, worst case scenario I burn my house down. I want as much help as people are willing to give me because I wanna make sure I get this right.

Hey so i'm trying to make a home server for myself to run a game media storage server, run dedicated Minecraft java, Minecraft all platform, The Forest, Rust. With protection on the dedicated game servers. Also a home ad blocker. What would be some recommended parts and recommended os for something like this?

Ok, so I know it sounds almost impossible to find something like this but I just was wondering if anyone has heard of something like that before. Cyber Monday and Black Friday are coming up in just a few days and Ive been waitng to prep for theses days so i could ask if anyone has ever seen something like this kind of computer. Something that runs VR ,1080p Minimum , and a Computer @ 900$. Its really specific, yes, but just wanted to know if someone had seen something like this before. Please reply w/ a link to pre-builts or parts lists [prebuilt preferably]. Im just gonna say I have 0 experience with building pc's so yeah....

Ok, So I never built a PC but I have upgraded one in the past. But that has been over 15 years ago that I did it. My son was given a bare-bones system, MSI B250M, i5 7400, Case, RX480 4gb, and power supply. No RAM, no drives. I have gotten a basic Samsung SSD for a boot drive, a 1TB WD 7200 RPM Disk Drive, 2 8gb DDR4 Ram Sticks. I also have a 500gb WD Drive with Windows 7 Pro I was planning on using as my Windows 10 upgrade path. I need suggestions on how to get things to work. Should I download drivers first on a thumb drive, or download drivers before upgrading to Windows 10. Can I transfer a Windows to the SSD for a boot drive or should I just let it live on the older Hard drives? HELP!!

Hi i'm from Pakistan and my budget is 700$. Cant go above as our currency tanked massively. The rig would be used for gaming and lite CAD work. In games id mostly play racing games like F1 2019, fifa (yes i just said fifa), minecraft, CS go, COD and Batman. I plan on running a single monitor only. Please include the price of the monitor in that budget if u can. ill need decent mouse and preferably a mechanical keyboard. This would be my first ever PC so don't know much about component compatibility. I looked up some motherboards and other components but me being uneducated in this subject found myself in a rut again and again. Also this would be a home setup and most of my siblings plan to use it as well. Any help would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi there, I finally was able to start my new pc and I ran in some truble in the bios. In the EZ mode it shows me that there is storage plugged in but in the advanced options are no m.2 ssds available. In the boot menu nothing shows up as well. I used my m.2 ssd for a while on another pc, win 10 boots perfectly on there but here it is not even an option. How can I adjust the settings to finally boot or should I return it and get another board (not my favorite way of doing things but after changing every possible setting, which I thought would be safe for the system at least and might help the issue, I still could not change anything in this situation).

i made this code when we had an activity where our teacher asked us to give the number of days in a given month. import calendar print("January=1, February=2, March=3, April=4, May=5, June=6,\nJuly=7, August=8, September=9, October=10, November=11, December=12\n") userMonth=int(input("Which month are you looking for: ")) numberDays = (calendar.monthrange(2019,userMonth)[1]) print("This month has",numberDays,"days") now i need help in making it so that the user can just either enter the name of the month or the number or even an abbreviation of the month(ex. January=jan, February=feb, etc.) any tips or tricks to help me implement it?

I goofed and forgot about networking when building my first machine. I see a lot of wireless network adapters, which is something I'll need, but I wanted to get some feedback before I ordered. Some are anteannas and some are little thumb drives. Does anyone have a preference? What's going to deliver the best result?

I've watched so many videos and browsed so many threads. I've exhausted my brain trying to piece together something on a partpicker. My budget for the total system is in the 1,000 usd ballpark. I'm starting from scratch and the only game I care to play is Destiny 2. I'm continuing my research and taking everything in, but a good place to start would help me out. Thanks a ton.

8700k, 5.0 All-Core at 1.285V, OK?
SlayerOfHellWyrm posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
So, this is pretty simple. I'm new to OC. My build is in my signature, but I played with some OC today, and managed to get an all-core 5.0 GHz OC on my 8700K at 1.285V (I know 1.35V is the upper limit) and under any stress test, it tends to sit around 60-70C with spikes to around 80 but never sitting there. Am I lucky at all, or if you have an 8700K what do you have? I feel like my voltage may be a tad high, but thermals seem to be fine, and if I drop the voltage it's either unstable, or doesn't even boot anymore. For ref. if you don't want to look in the sig, 8700K, cooled by a Corsair 115i Platinum (280mm AIO) in a Corsair 500D SE.- 14 replies

Hello, I'm new to pc building and I'm putting together my first PC. I'm waiting until the 5700xt Red Devil GPU's are available to finish it. I bought a few parts on sale one of which was a 650w (80+ silver) power supply. I was looking at a review of the card today and a guy said the GPU should be used with a minimum 700w power supply. Is that good information? On PC part picker the PC total watt is about 450w. What could he be referring to?
