I bought an Optiplex 9020 SFF with 1 year of Windows 10 coming pre-installed with the pc. After my 1 year has run out, I want to move to a version of Linux, as well as installing my new SSD along with it. I also have a very limited knowledge of any sort of coding and need a UI that is user-friendly, since I barely know a thing about it. Is there any version of Linux I should be running that is user-friendly and I can easily opperate? Should I also install my new SSD with the OS?

Hey guys. First I have no idea what that inbuilt board is, on the inner side of my pc's front panel, but it has a broken sata port and I have no idea what it does or if I should worry about it. Also is there any way to change or fix that. My case has a memory card reader plus jack and usb port on the front if that helps. But they are way above this board. Everything seems to be working fine but I am gonna give this pc to a friend and I wanna make sure everything works. Thanks!

Budget (including currency): 2000$ USD( computer parts only no accessories) Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: general school work, COD, any game I feel I wanna start playing other games like valorant and csgo or whatever may come up. I have a PS5 and play a bunch but I want to enjoy the PC experience as well. I also want to be able to mess with things such as video editing, photoshop, music, coding. I just want a good pc that can play games and allow me to experiment with different things Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): CPU: (AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core 3.7 GHz Socket AM4 105W 100-100000061WOF Desktop Processor) or (AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Vermeer 8-Core 3.8 GHz Socket AM4 105W 100-100000063WOF Desktop Processor) Motherboard: MSI MAG X570 TOMAHAWK WIFI AM4 AMD X570 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16D-32GVK GPU:(MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 ATX Video Card GTX 1050 Ti 4GT OC) or (GIGABYTE GeForce GT 1030 Low Profile D4 2G DirectX 12 GV-N1030D4-2GL Video Card) Case: I have no selected a case as it seems to be a hard decision. I don't care to much for the look of it but I don't want a stupid looking one. One that is pretty big would be nice so I can fit whatever parts i may need to. I also want a case with good air flow. Power Supply: CORSAIR RMx Series RM850x CP-9020180-NA 850W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Power Supply Storage:(SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.3 V-NAND 3-bit MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V7S1T0B/AM) and (Seagate BarraCuda ST2000DM008 2TB 7200 RPM 256MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive Bare Drive) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler, 4 CDC Heatpipes, 120mm PWM Fan, Aluminum Fins for AMD Ryzen/Intel LGA1200/1151 Operating System: Windows 10 home 64-bit( will need to get one somehow) Other Parts: I need help figuring out what thermal compound to use as well as other fans for keeping the PC cool. I also need to know if theres any parts id need to order that I don't know of. Accessories So for things such as mouse, keyboard, headphones, desk, and monitor those are all things I wish to upgrade slowly over time. With a monitor being the first. I plan to use two monitors and for most games I am fine with 1080p-1440p and 120herz. I like fps competitive games so having a good refresh rate is what I need. Extra Info I want to build my first ever PC. Currently I'm just using a a laptop for school and I play games on my PS5. For the CPU I will just get whichever of the two is available. For Motherboard I've tried my best doing research but would appreciate any feed back on if I should choose something else. Memory I would want either 8gb sticks or 16gb sticks at atleast 3200 but if yall know something better I would love to know. GPU as most people know is a little bit of a struggle to get but those two are placeholder choices as cards I did not think were trash and were cheap and could hold me over till i can get a 30 series. For case I have thought of (Fractal Design Meshify C Black ATX High-Airflow Compact Dark Tint Tempered Glass Window Mid Tower Computer Case, FD-CA-MESH-C-BKO-TG) or (Phanteks Enthoo Pro TG PH-ES614PTG_BK Integrated RGB lighting Tempered Glass Side Panel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Black) but really just want help picking out something good. For Power supply I just want something that is 850 gold certified fully modular. For Storage I just chose what I thought was best I wanted a 1tb SSD and I just chose a 2tb hard drive since they were not expensive. For CPU Cooler I really have no clue so I just chose what I thought would be good.

Hello, First very TL;DR version: I need help create stable home network in a big brick & concrete house (with basically no wood floors). I need advice about: - If the structure of the network makes sense - If three access points will be enough with the whole house coverage - If APs of my choosing are okay for the purpose of: Home Office for Data Analyst, Online teacher and one permanent gamer (my brother). The long version: Current status: (For this part, consult picture Ground_floor and Ground_floor_2D in attachments) Wife and I will be moving to my parents house where we will build floor for us and the current network is weak and shitty. The cable to modem/router goes under the floor from kitchen (around the biggy biggy hole) and that modem (provided by ISP) has to send signal across room full of furniture, and hallway towards living room, where is the extender, which already receives quite bad signal. That extended network is used by my dad in his Mancave, mainly for WhatsApp calls and sometimes by other members in the garden. So basically current status was okay(ish) for the past as brother was connected to modem directly by Ethernet and for some time fine with the Extender, but since whole house is made from Porotherm 30 bricks (mainly outside walls, inside they are different, but still pretty hefty) and a lot of concrete, for future purposes of working from home and especially in the first floor, it just cannot be used anymore. Even in the living room where is Smart TV and Kitchen, the WiFi quality just sucks. The whole range of the house is almost 20 * 16 metres. My plan: (For this part, consult picture First_floor and First_floor_2D and Network_structure in attachments) 1. There is still cable phone in the kitchen, so I would start with moving the modem in the kitchen, or most probably into the attic with cabling via the biggy biggy hole. Biggy biggy hole is essentialy non-metallic tubing leading inside the walls into the attic, where is TV antenna so there should be still additional place for some phone/ethernet cables. 2. From the modem I would lead ethernet cable to unmanaged switch (8 ports should be enough) and from switch into the 3x Access points and (in the future) NAS. Here I would stop by and ask, if the approximate location mentioned in the 2D plan would be enough, to cover whole 1st floor and the floor beneath. I will list the APs I was thinking about further below. I would put the APs into the ceiling of the first floor from the attic (needs to have PoE). The goal is to have covered full house as much as possible, except the "modem room" of brothers, where I could just get the ethernet cable directly as he doesn't have WiFi on desktop PC. The location of AP #1 will be used as an office so there has to be great coverage and couls be used also for my father, as he is not using too much of the data. Does this seems logical/okay for you? I've put the icons in green/yellowish color to see what is in plan, in comparison with pure black (which is current situation) - just to have the visual difference. 3. The APs that I was mainly looking for were Ubiquiti UniFi UAP-AC-LR (here I am not sure if the long range version is really needed). I need AP with Power over Ethernet as there is not many sockets in the attic. What else I would need for this? My guess is some kind of PSU for the ethernet cables? What should I be looking for? UniFi seems quite rabbit hole (in terms of money mainly, lol). I was looking into UniFi ecosystem because it seems user-friendly, although I don't have many issues playing with tech/scripting/settings (i like to do it I just need some push into specific direction). And my future plan also consists of having my small home media server. I appreciate any constructive feedback as I am doing this on my own and in near future. Because of the reconstruction we are also kind of limited with the money, that's why I've chosen only threee access points, but in case, I am fine with going up to 5 of them. I am not willing to sacrifice the middle of the house in terms of coverage since it's where people mostly will be. But the outer parts are really, really nice to have stable as well. The number of average clients connected to the network will be around 10 - 15 on average, 20 max. I also have 2 old routers-only which can be used in the outter parts, but I am not sure about their ability being an AP and if that would even work. WiFi5 is fine as most of the clients actually cannot connect to WiFi 6 (at least I think so). Old TV, old phones, mainly 2,4GHz. Only work laptops support 5GHz (which is fine for me.) Software used: SweetHome3D, Visio, Photoshop (for painting, lol). As I am self-learner in this field, please be nice to me, I am willing to learn but I need some guidance. This was written based on my experience and research I've done in the past week and LTT forum is first one I've registered for thanks to Linus team. Thank you in advance!

Hello guys, please help me choose my mining PC Parts. As a starter, I'm just regular person who try to make my side income from mining in NiceHash. Last year i just build my first entry level PC and now i'm thinking to build another PC for mining. while my Current PC is for entertainment the new PC I'm Gonna build is for investing. So, i have a decent basic knowledge for building an entry level PC but i barely know a thing for mining PC. I do not plan anything big for now, just a beginner mining PC with budget around US $1500 equivalent. For now, $150-250 profit per month would be a good start for me. I don't plan to build this PC until around Dec 2021 or later since the price on parts still crazy. For refference here are my rough plan on parts: CPU: AMD Ryzen 3600 GPU: RX 5600 XT/ RTX 2060/RTX 3060 (whichever i can realisticly afford at the time of build) Mobo: Asrock B450 Phantom Gaming PSU: 750W, 80+ Gold Certified SSD: 256GB Sata III or M.2 HDD: 1TB 3,5" 7200 RPM The explanation: From my understanding by "playing" a bit with NiceHash Profit Calculator and reading some blogs, for CPU Red Team Wins. Ryzen 3600 can make more income than intel i9-10900k, so of course i choose the amd. for GPU, I understand that RTX 3000 series and AMD 6000 series is better, but since the price is crazy (till who knows when), i can settle for something less as long at it is realistic. If the price goes down or i have enough profit, I plan to have 2 GPU (or more). For Mobo, I still in the dark. But, my plan is to have a decent Mobo which support atleast 2 installed GPU. The Question: As I explained above, i am bit confident for choosing the CPU and GPU, but do you gents have a better idea? and how about other parts? For Mobo, I still in the dark. But, my plan is to have a decent Mobo which support atleast 2 installed GPU. I also have no idea which ram is good for mining, "is more ram is better? is faster ram is better?". and what kind of storage is needed? Is HDD even required at all? Any kind of comments and advice is very welcome. I would like to apologize in advance if i say or write anything stoopid, I'm a really complete noob about this all XD

CPU: Ryzen 9 3900X MB: Asus Crossair Viii Formula AiO CPU Cooler: Asus RYUJIN 360 on radiator got 2 noctua fans & 1 Corsair LL connected to it. Mixed Case Fans: 2 noctua & 2 Corsair LL 140 connected to Corsair commander pro. I am getting a CPU Fan error. I have case fans connected to Corsair commander pro. Case fans are not connected to any MB headers. Also fans from AiO are not connected to MB headers, AiO fans connected to proper AiO connector on MB. New to the D.i.Y game need guidance because I feel like manuals should be more detailed for the new users. -
Hi, I want to try to learn using Linux, however I'd like your help with the following questions.: 1. I'm also a gamer, so I'd like to also keep Windows installed. They won't both run at the same time. Will there be a performance decrease for any of them because the other one exists on the same machine, even if it's not running? 2. Is Linux as picky about storage as Windows is? I have a 1TB HDD lying around and I wanted to use that as main drive for Linux installation. Should I instead get a small SSD as boot drive? 3. Which Linux distro do you recommend for beginners? Also I'm currently learning PHP as well as following CCNA course, if it's possible please factor this in your recommendation. THANKS!

Budget (including currency): 1250 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games: Minecraft; Hotdogs, Horseshoes & Handgrenades (VR)*; VRChat; Fallout 4; Skyrim; Portal 1&2; Blade & Sorcery (VR)*; and probably more Programs/workloads: Fusion 360; Unity; Substance Painter; light video editing; possible Twitch streaming *When I aquire a VR headset (most likely a Quest 2, or possibly a Quest 3 if/when that comes out), will probably take me a few more months to get to that point. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Current idea/plan: R5 5600X MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 Crucial Ballistix RGB 3600, CL16 Any 3060 ti that's around 470 USD w/ tax (I'm currently chilling in a Discord to try and score one using their stock alert bots) Lian Li Lancool 215 (already bought for $80 because it was on sale) EVGA 700 BQ, 80+ BRONZE 700W (already bought for $70 because it was on sale) Team Group PM33 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD https://newegg.io/a9e11270** **The GPU, Case, and PSU from this build are just placeholders so I can keep a running total I'm planning on using a 2k/1440p @120hz monitor for this set up, and have been given a $300 budget (seperate from the $1250) for one, so recommendations for that would be nice as well. I don't need to worry about a mouse, keyboard, headset, etc, for I already have those components. I'm "upgrading" from my father's old PC that's now become the family PC when he upgraded about a year back. That's rocking an Athlon II x3, Gtx 460, 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3(?) and a couple of unknown drives, one SSD and one HDD. I've saved up about $1110 of my $1250 budget, so I'm looking to buy within the next few months. (I know that now isn't the best time to try, but I've been dying to get my own PC for a while now.) Also, sort of an unrelated question, does Newegg not have sales tax? When I bought the case and PSU I was charged the exact listed price, which confused me. (This answer might sway where I'm going to buy from for most of the rest of the parts.)

Budget (including currency): around 1000$ USD but i would prefer to go as low as possible, it's at 850$ right now Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: recording in 1080p 60fps and probably 1440p gaming? I'm not playing any graphically intensive games right now, but i want to be ready for newer games. (i mostly play indie games atm) Other details the 3060 is just a placeholder because nothing exists right now, but i dont have a lot of money at the moment so I'll probably buy once the gpu shortage stops. (or probably around next Christmas) a friend made this list for me and i wanted to check to see if he messed anything up, and i am willing to change most things. i kind of want to have room to fit one or 2 monitors and stay under 1k, but right now i just want to get the price low. (it has to be portable as i switch houses often) https://pcpartpicker.com/user/twoheadeddollar/saved/mZfGP6 (fuck it was private sorry) -
Budget (including currency): hopefully <50 but if needed <60 Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Pretty much everything, but minecraft with high settings, lots of browsing and streaming, recording, and zoom (zoom is terrible on my current device. 2009 stuff honestly) Other details I plan to pair a RX 470 with a ryzen 5 3600 and get the wraith spire cooler separately if needed. (i believe it's cheaper to get the 3600 and get the cooler instead of getting the 3600x. I found a MSI TOMAHAWK MAX II motherboard, which seems to have the compatibility I'm looking for. I'm getting TEAMGROUP 16gb 8gb x 2 3200MHz C16 RAM and thats about all I have right now. I do not want to get anything rgb or at least disable it. I'm looking for a pc case. Thanks! -someone who isn't experienced and is completely new to this. ps: if someone can post a list of everything a pc needs, that would be great! I'm looking to compile a list of everything the build could have in case prices fall eventually.

Ok so here's the story. For about a year or 2 I have been running my pc with 20gb of ram 2 2gb sticks of 1600 ddr3 from corsair and 2 8gb of 1866 ddr3 of hyperx. I was looking at my speeds and it's been throttling them I think to around 1200 I'm not quite sure how they work it's reading around 600 on cpuz and it mentioned doubling them?.... I wanted to remove the 2gn sticks and leave just the 16gb for a hopeful increase in speeds and leave it open for a hopeful upgrade. If I leave the sticks in formation c2 c2 h8 h8 it boots like normal. If I remove the corsair memory and align them as seen in videos at 0 h8 0 h8 I see board start but it never goes to the bios screen so I can change things it just stays black. I'm assuming it's not posting?..... I'm very unsure of how to proceed. I've just been replacing the array until now that I'm off for the weekend. Any help is appreciated.

I am looking to buy a new laptop for my college and I am really confused on which one to buy. I am in India and there aren't a lot of great options available to choose from. I have narrowed down the list to 2 devices and one is a notebook and other one is a gaming laptop (both in the same price range). The notebook has a Ryzen 7 8 core CPU with vega r3 integrated graphics. The gaming laptop is equipped with a Ryzen 5 6 core CPU paired with a GTX 1660. I mostly run apps like android studio, some DBMS apps,Photoshop,Premiere pro etc so I need those to work smoothly too.I am not a serious gamer but i do play ocassionally. I am not int AAA games but mostly would love to experience Dirt 3 and valorant with descent FPS. I have linked both of them down below if anybody wants to take a look at them. Please help me out. Hello, I am starting to build my first PC. Please don't hate me but I am not so much a gamer but instead I'm into audio. The program I use does require a bit of graphics in some cases I can create visuals with the on board video editor that does allow you to render up to 4k.. It's very cool for YT videos BTW.. My question is.. What type of GPU should I use & is there one under $300 that would do the job? I'm running a i7 10700k, ASUS TUFF Gaming Plus with wifi 6, Noctua NH-D15 for cooling & Corsair 2x16gig DDR4 so far.. Still in the process of purchase with other parts... Thanks!

350 - 450 euros price range, Gaming, Work, School computer. I've put together my own pc, I need some feedback for improvements. I have a certain background knowledge about computer's and computer hardware, but I have never done my own build. Here is a screenshot of all the components I have put together. I did not add a gpu because I will use the ryzen's 5 3400g integrated graphics proccesing unit at first for gaming. I will most likely add a gpu in the future (I was thinking about a gtx1660 s)

Hello everyone, I am open to different solutions as I am a novice in all of this. I am aware that there are streaming services, such as Amazon music HD. But here in this thread, I am looking for a home storage solution. Above all else, user friendliness and longevity are important. I am researching the best solution for storing and playing high quality (lossless format) music at home. The solution will be designed for my mother and hence, need a certain level of user friendliness, especially after setup. This both in regard of hardware but especially the software UI. What I believe is required from the hardware: Couple of TB storage. Ability to stream locally to a music system. Possibly locally streaming music to pc, iPhone and iPad (depends on what the requirements are for this is). Running quiet, the storage might have to be in the living room. But if not feasible could be put in another room. Not be an enormous server tower, it is supposed to be in the living room (I will probably put it into a cabinet). Budget is fairly generous excluding storage probably $500 - $1000. But no need for higher performance than necessary. So, I have made some research, and it would seem that a NAS is the most common system for a home media server. But I am unsure how much performance I actually need for audio files as most servers seem to be used for video encoding etc. Do you need a lot of performance to play FLAC files to an audio system? And would I need a lot of performance to encoding / converting a FLAC format to Apple Lossless (ALE)? Considering it is only music, would connecting a SSD or HDD to the router be enough? Software I have seen that Plex is commonly used, are there better solutions for my needs? Remote access out of home? If this were to be relevant, what do I have to think about? Would there be serious security concerns? Would it require a lot more performance from the hardware? Would the user friendliness be impacted? As said in the beginning, I am open for different solutions and suggestions. I have in no way made up my mind about anything. However, here in this thread I am looking for a solution for home storage and not a streaming service such as Amazon music HD. Thankful for any help you can provide!

I am currently using 2x4gb ddr4 2400 memory sticks or whatever they're called, and I'm thinking about upgrading. My motherboard (ASUS PRIME B360M-A) has 2 dual link slots so 4 total. I want to have a total of 16gb of ram, but I don't know what to buy because I'm pretty new and inexperienced with computers. So here is what I'm thinking: I could either buy more of the same memory and have 16gb 2400 which is the cheapest option. OR I could buy completely new ram with maybe more speed (like 2666 or 3200). So now the real reason I'm posting here: Are there any disadvantages with these options? Like is it faster to only use 2 of the slots than all four? Is more speed completely useless? Or is there anything else to keep in mind like compatibility or power supply? If there's more information about my build you need, just ask!

Budget (including currency): $1200 CAD Country: CANADA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Call of Duty, Sports Titles, Light editing (Adobe Suite), potentially some streaming down the road Other details No parts yet, would love to have this baby silent as possible, no real plans for resolutions/refresh rate. Well, its finally happened; After years of shotty frame rates and lack-lustre performance on top titles, I'm finally ready to graduate from console gaming to a PC. I've always been interested in building, but now that I've been really looking into it, I've found that it's so much more complicated than I had anticipated; which is awesome, but also a bit overwhelming. I feel like its almost sacrilegious to join a forum and be like, "Hey, help me build this thing!" (sorry in advance) - but likewise, I know that there are much brighter people on here who are way better versed in PC builds than me. Any suggestions on where to start? Parts lists that you've see that looked good? Good deals? AMD over Intel? Build tips? Things to avoid?
